If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! I drove 3 hours to try this spot, and let me tell you it was worth every single mile. What truly made the experience unforgettable was the hospitality, especially from the manager (Merlin) I believe. She was beyond amazing incredibly friendly, welcoming, and her energy lit up the entire room. She was so attentive and genuine, it honestly felt like we were being hosted by a longtime friend. Her warmth and professionalism set the tone for the whole visit, and it made a great place exceptional. The drinks? Absolutely delicious crafted with care and full of flavor. Food was great. Clam chowder was great and the tri-tip nachos were very good. Ashley worked very hard being the only person there. Right across from the beach and we were there in the evening and a patron felt like she was at home and put her leg and foot with her nasty shoe on the table, I guess she does this at home and a few people were applauded by her behavior. Located steps away from the beach, and the Avila Beach Pier, this is the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoor breeze, enjoy some good music, watch the locals surf and enjoy a drink (or food) with a loved one! They are also dog friendly which is always an added bonus! They have a full bar, beer on tap and food options - their clam chowder is one of my ALL TIME favorites and it is even better if you add bacon on top! :) My husband also loves the bloody mary! The service can be hit or miss, based on who is working and how busy it is (especially if it is a weekend), but most times I have visited the bartenders and servers are super nice and helpful! Mr Ricks has live music on weekends and evenings and it is always a busy, and extremely fun, spot to be at! We went here because we have been here before. All ordering is done at the bar counter but food is brought to your table. I ordered their carne asada fries. Portion was large but the price was high (over $20). Food was brought to our table at the right temperature and looked appealing. My carne asada fries were good especially since they met my request for crispy / well done fries. Fries were a big portion and good for 2 or more people. read more

Never felt stupid before till I got here. My gf and I were the only customers sat at the bar no one served us or asked if we wanted a drink we were ignored by two white males. I sat for about 10 mins finally to say "excuse me" and was still ignored. We left. (Lesbian, Hispanic couple) they could've at least refused service and said something. Located right on the boardwalk, Mr. Rick's is the place to party and have a good time in Avila! They have a full bar with specialty drinks and a large selection of beer. Surprisingly though, my husband ordered a Pacifico and they were out so he got the 805 Cerveza. I ordered the Pink Mermaid and asked if he could add less of the Malibu so it wouldn't be too sweet - unfortunately it ended up tasting like it had zero alcohol but it was pretty. Next time I'll get a vodka soda. They have a huge outdoor patio with ocean views and a ton of indoor seating. We ordered the nachos and they were pretty basic. The cheese wasn't evenly spread out so we didn't finish the bottom half. Still the location and vibes are really fun and the staff is all very friendly! read more

Was at Avila Beach this past weekend and stop by Mr. Rick's for a drink and some lunch. I got confused with the lines but they actually have three lines for you to be able to order your food and drinks which is really nice and helps the flow to go by faster. I ordered my drink and the salmon Cesar. My drink of Hennessy and ale was refreshing on such a hot day. The salmon Cesar came out quickly and was very tasty. I forgot to take a pick because i was so hungry but the salmon was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I would suggest maybe having some more tables inside on hot days. I was by myself so i asked this group of three if i could use the end of their table. read more

Had some close friends come up for the weekend and it was nice to chill at Mr. Rick's to beat the heat in North County. Mr. Rick's location is awesome - right off the beach with view of the pier the waves, great people watching. Dog friendly! Sometimes there's someone busking and hopefully they can play their instrument but if they can't, it can be a little annoying after a while. They got variety of different beers on tap (Especially Fig Mtn Danish Red Ale!) and we got the chicken nachos and the Carne Asada nachos and they were both large servings and excellent to split among 6 ppl. We devoured them while we drink our beers and enjoyed the beach vibe. If you wanna sit and have a drink at the beach this is the place to go. read more

Was in the area on a nostalgia your recently, and swing through the new Avila Beach. It is quite a bit different than it used to be. I remembered the quaint old sea village. It was good to see some familiar names thoigh - Mr Ricks among them. We got there right add they opened and seats fileld up fast. Like another customer stated, I had my debit card fraudulently charged by the bartender Katelyn without my knowledge. While she seemed kind, she told me to call them if it hasn't been resolved in 1-2 days. Now, it's going on 4 days that I still have the money out of my account and no one is picking up the phone. As much as I absolutely love their House Custom Bloody Mary drink, it is very unsettling that I left my card to open a tab and they charged me $89+ dollars without my knowledge and then allowed me to pay another $83+ dollars to close my tab 20 minutes later without letting me know what happened. I surprisingly found out only because I luckily checked my bank account right after leaving and was able to walk back in. Would not recommend coming to this establishment. read more

Visiting SOL for my nieces spring break. We hit all the stores in town. We decided to go to the beach and relax after a busy shopping day. While my niece and sister took a little walk, I found myself the perfect bar seat for a nice, warm, smooth, neat Casa Azule. Mr. Ricks is our go-to every time we are in Avila. Always look forward to the coconut shrimp and margaritas. This visit, food wasn't as good. They changed the dipping sauce and the shrimp was not as good. Per bartender, lots of things have changed in the last year. Hopefully they change back to the old sauce/shrimp.
