We had previously enjoyed live music in the lounge and vowed to come back another time for a meal because of the ambience and menu. We came back last night and enjoyed a delightful meal. Some had the fish tacos, others had salmon and sand dabs. All were excellent and topped off with the peach cobbler. (Also excellent!) The only negative was the hostess. We were torn between the inside or outside because of the chill and the inside had no ambiance. The hostess was quick to seat us inside but the wait staff let us know there were blankets available which made our dining experience excellent. Blankets and a heat lamp made all the difference. Another great meal at Terry's. Started with an old fashioned and a glass of the clos du val cab. Had a Ceasar salad and a bowl of beef barley soup. The soup was delicious. It was flavorful and so tasty. Not many restaurants make delicious, homemade soups, but Terry's does not disappoint. We had the short ribs and filet mignon. Both tender and delicious. We ended with a keoke coffee and the molten chocolate chip cookie with caramel sauce. Jacob was our server and he was attentive and professional. We have never been disappointed here. We recently stayed at the Cypress Inn and while the property itself is charming and in a fantastic location, the service throughout our stay was consistently disappointing. Nothing catastrophic happened, but it felt like we were inconveniencing staff rather than being welcomed. We experienced multiple instances where basic hospitality was lacking. At meals, we often had to ask for water, request the check, and follow up on things that should have been proactive. One evening we came downstairs for dinner around 8:25 PM and were told the kitchen stopped taking orders 30 minutes before the restaurant closed. While that's certainly their policy, it wasn't communicated beforehand and the interaction felt more dismissive than apologetic. There were several small moments like this throughout our stay. Individually they may seem minor, but together they created an atmosphere that felt awkward, rushed, and inattentive. Given Carmel's reputation for hospitality and the price point of the hotel, we expected a much warmer and more polished experience. The inn itself has a lot of charm, and we enjoyed the area, but the level of service simply didn't match the setting or our expectations. read more

My husband is a huge Doris Day fan. On the bucket list was to visit the hotel and Terry's. We had to stop in for a cocktail. Sat at the bar with our dog. Jacob was our bartender. Husband had the espresso martini. Described as "awesome and very good ". I had the Mai tai. Perhaps the best I have had on the mainland. This one and perhaps one other compared to the Islands. I stumbled upon this place during our Carmel visit and it did not disappoint! As soon as we walked in we were greeted by Ismael and his smile and energy was infectious! We didn't have reservations so we waited for about 15 minutes for our table. We ordered our dogs the beef plate and it looked so appetizing, and they were nice enough to split the meal for our pups!! We ordered the tacos, crab cakes, Cesar salad, steak frites, watermelon feta salad, peach cobbler, and an affogato. All were cooked to perfection, beautifully seasoned and presented beautifully. Was in town for BassetCon & was happy to see so many dog friendly restaurants & Terry's was one of them - the patio was nice but we ended getting seated inside right behind the hostess station which was a bummer. We ordered steak & eggs and the spinach, mushroom, Swiss omelette from the brunch menu. Our food was average, service was good. Buster had a bowl of hamburger, carrots, & rice which actually looked better than our brunch did. The fruit was really good though -definitely fresh. Very excellent service from Omar and the food was great. You can eat either inside or outside on the patio and very dog friendly (as is the entire Cypress Inn). Burger was tasty and great shoestring fries. Been here plenty of time with and without the dogs and is nice and quiet if you want to get away from what can be a congested Carmel. This should be a slam dunk. You're in the historic Cypress Inn (Doris Day's legendary dog-friendly hotel), you have a gorgeous patio, excellent location, and built-in clientele. And yet somehow, Terry's manages to squander all of it with terrible food. To be fair, our server was sweet--a nice girl who was clearly trying. But one kind server can't make up for what was coming out of the kitchen. We played it safe and both ordered the chicken piccata. Big mistake. What arrived was one of the most depressing plates I've seen in a while: basic-béarnaise sauce dumped on top of chicken. Not piccata. Not even close. Just... butter sauce on chicken. This is a meal I'll be thinking about for a long time, and not in a good way. It's genuinely sad to see a restaurant with this much going for it just completely blow it. Cypress Inn deserves better. Carmel deserves better. Skip Terry's and eat literally anywhere else. read more

We ordered 4 of the most popular dishes (shrimp scampi, sand dabs, chicken picatta and short ribs) and ell of them were delicious! The shrimp scampi amhas a subtle taste and you can taste the freshness of the shrimp. The short ribs was very tender and the mashed potatoes that came with it was made to perfection! The sand dabs of course is always a great choice. We also ordered their fresh apple cobbler. It was perfectly sweet therefore if you're expecting it to be smothered with brown sugar and cinnamon, this is not how it's served. Our group loved it! Their house red wine for $9 is a great choice as well! The staff are very attentive. DOG FRIENDLY! They allow dogs in their restaurant and outdoor patio. read more

I actually dined here for dinner on my last night in town. I sat outside and the courtyard is very cute and quaint. I was by myself so I didn't order much but the server was still very attentive. I got fries, soup and an order of the stuffed mushrooms. I did not like the mushrooms as there was a grainy texture but I sent them back and the staff was very gracious. Have been to this bar at least a handful of times and the service just sucks. Don't know why we go back. With the exception of once, every bartender (and surrounding staff) just give off the vibe/attitude that they don't want to work there and actually provide any good, welcoming, helpful, friendly service. They treat you like you're inconveniencing them by being there and I've gotten better service at a fast food restaurant. To top it off the drinks are overpriced and meh. We stayed at the Cypress-Inn and we ended up eating dinner at Terry's mostly every night that we were there because it was just so convenient that it was at the hotel. The food was good and they were so nice and accommodating to our 75 lbs Bernedoodle that we just decided to keep eating there for the comfort and convenience. The outdoor space had heaters so it was okay sitting outside even though it was cold. They had a good amount of food varieties for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is free if you are a hotel guest. They had hot breakfast serving eggs, bacon, sausages and pastries. Since we were there a lot, the staff already knew to bring out the condiments we wanted without asking for it anymore. They also have a dog menu for lunch and dinner which was great because we wanted to include our little pup with every meal that we had at Terry's. Overall, I would eat at Terry's again when I return to Carmel. read more

We had dinner tonight at Terry's Place at The Cypress Inn. The atmosphere is classy, yet casual and dogs are welcome inside and out. There is even a dog menu if your pup is hungry. We passed on the dog menu even though it included Nathan's hot dogs and burgers! For dinner we started with the Prawn Martini- 5 poached prawns with spicy horseradish cocktail sauce which was very good. We also had the special Butternut Squash soup that my husband proclaimed, "delicious." We followed this with mains- Shrimp Scampi- wild shrimp sauteed in garlic butter, diced tomato, red pepper flakes, and fresh parmesan over linguini. We also had the Monterey Sand Dabs that were breaded and pan-seared with a tarragon cream sauce and fingerling potatoes, carrots, and asparagus. For dessert we enjoyed the vanilla bean gelato with chocolate sauce. Service was very efficient and friendly. Since we love the Cypress Inn, we will definitely be back! read more

Located in the Cypress Inn, this is like a local hangout and visitors . Great vibe, very busy, great service. I loved the bar area, where there are also dining tables also. They have a great cocktail list, we loved their espresso martinis. Made Perfectly, a great pre or post dinner drink. They also serve food, but we just came here pre dinner for the espresso's, and we did have the truffle fries and the hummus dip with pita which were both great. They have live music several days of the week, we loved the singer the night we went, sang alot of classics and you can get up and dance too. Every part of this place is dog friendly. Which to me was kinda annoying as I'm not dog friendly lol. Many drinking spots other than the bar, you can order drinks in the room where they have the music, out on the patio. Still loving Terry's Lounge. We found a shaded table for two on the patio. Our other option was next to the fireplace ... too hot. As we were seated we were warned that they only had two servers. The heads up was appreciated, but not needed. Maria was our pleasant and efficient server. I started with a smooth glass of prosecco which paired nicely with Doris Day's Favorite Chicken Salad. My favorite, too. The portion of chicken salad was what I remembered from past visits. But the serving bowl with a bed of butter lettuce seemed smaller with only a few cherry tomatoes, red grapes, olives, and a small quartered hard boiled egg. I asked for bread and was delighted with four slices of tasty sourdough. I shouldn't have, but I ate it all. DH surprised me by ordering the fish tacos instead of his usual club sandwich. He is not a fan of black beans so didn't mind that the ramkin of beans was tiny -- held just a few tablespoons. In contrast the serving of rice was so large that he was not able to finish it. We had an excellent dinner at Terry's Restaurant after checking into the Cypress Inn. The food was excellent. The ahi tuna crusted in sesame was some of the best I've had. Perfectly cooked, beautifully served, and so tender. I asked for vegetables in place of the noodles and the waiter checked with the chef to see what could be done and told me. I love that. My husband had the shrimp scampi and it had amazingly beautiful prawns. We ate in the indoor dining area where dogs are allowed, as we're traveling with our dog. In hindsight, we should have asked for the courtyard. Inside was crowded and noisy, but the prompt service allowed us to eat and get our pup upstairs quickly. Since we return to the same area for breakfast, it is interesting to see that people bring their dogs who don't like other dogs and then sit in the traffic routes. Not the restaurant's issue, nor the hotel's, but makes me wonder why people do that to their dogs. read more

Came to Carmel for a mini spring break getaway, and a local recommended this place, since it was dog friendly as well. I ordered the Sand Dabs (5 stars), my husband, the filet mignon, and our two teen boys had the hamburger with garlic fries. for dessert, we had the crème brûlée with coconut milk, and the tiramisu. Service was excellent. The food was very good. Outside the patio ambience was nice and quiet. It was perfect weather in April. Today the manger Cynthia, was very unwelcoming at the bar, didn't greet us and just shrugged her shoulders as we asked to sit at the bar. The service seemed a bit off tonight. The manager was actively helping deliver - so that's nice. Pups are allowed inside even. I came for a drink before going down to the beach to watch the sunset. After all the years coming to Carmel, Terry's Lounge at the Cypress Inn is still our favorite place to hang out for a night cap, listen to some music, chat with people who work (or sit) at the bar or just watch some old Doris Day movie clips over a glass of wine (or two) During our most recent Carmel visit we stopped by Terry's every night. Drinks are wonderful. If you feel like having a bite they have a great bar menu (with the best burger in town). They also have a regular menu as well as lovely table seating service inside & outside, we just prefer the bar. Employees are always joyful & pleasure to talk to.
