My bathroom was in a sorry state when Rich came out to take a look at it. It was outdated but redoing everything seemed too hard to do myself and too expensive to hire. Rich offered the perfect solution for me, which was doing a lot of it myself but with his help and guidance along the way. We ripped everything out down to the studs and then Rich helped me through every step of the install. He spent several days at my house working with me to do the demo, hang drywall, and install the shower pan/wet-walls. Back at the Grout Genie shop, we went over installing tile and I was able to go back home and do the floor myself. Having Rich's expertise to make sure things are being done right and won't leak in the future was a lot better than trying to do things by googling and watching YouTube videos. When issues inevitably came up, it was really nice to have someone I could call to fix it. He also let me borrow the tools I needed at different points in the process, like the tile cutter and vacuum drywall sander. Having the right tools for the job is huge. The end result looks great. We had a great experience with The Grout Genie. Brad cleaned our tile & grout, did new caulking all around the shower/tub and sealed the grout lines. Rich came, he saw, he conquered...it's just that simple. Like many of you, our shower had been taken over by mold that we just could not beat, and just after four short years of having the shower completely retiled and sealed. Rich came in, gave his full and honest estimate, showed up when he said he would and knocked it 100% out of the park. Additionally, he had great advice as to how to keep the humidity down in the shower and how to remove humidity and the food source for the mold in the first place. The resealing of the shower was done well, and there were no aftermarket surprises when the job was completed. Thing about Rich is you get exactly what you are promised. Not everyone can do this type of work with the experience and the on-the-job knowledge that Rich has. As I am sure we have all noticed there are a ton of new tile guys and plumbers that claim to know what they are doing after only being in the NOVA for two or three yrs. For me, all of my future tile work will go Rich, and all of my future plumbing work will go to Julian of Plumb Agent (the plumber Rich recommended). I will leave you with this, tile work and mowing and racking leaves are on two completely opposite ends of the work experience spectrum. Apparently I forgot to leave my review two years ago!!! I can't say enough INCREDIBLE things about Rich and his tile work! Like I said, he laid tile in our basement for us in November 2015 and we've been loving the basement ever since! I found Rich online through Yelp and had him come out for an estimate and he was honest, upfront and even told me he was probably a little more expensive than the other guys I had also give me quotes (he wasn't, he was actually cheaper than everyone else). More importantly he talked to me like a person not some shell of a person (or shell of a husband). He didn't try to upsell me or talk me into doing anything extra. He was very easy to talk to, very knowledgeable and friendly (definitely a guy you'd wanna grab a beer with and catch a game). Let me give you some info on the basement remodel we underwent a couple of years ago...I erroneously thought I could redo the tile with my dad...we started the project (albeit terribly) and about a fraction of the way through realized we were completely in over our heads, but we had already purchased all the material. Rich had no problem laying tile around our messy work (sorry about the headache Rich!) and completing the work ahead of schedule. I trust him so much that I gave him the code to our backdoor so he could just come in and start the work on his own. Rich even played with our dog and let her out while we were away at work (he did ask beforehand if it was ok for him to do this...so don't worry pet parents). Our floors look incredible now! Rich even told me a few tricks about tiling and "back-buttering" in case I needed future tile work...but let's face it...now that I have a tile guy it's not something I'll ever do myself. We've recommended Rich to everyone we know and two people have used him and also raved about his work. We hired the Grout Genie to repair the grout in our showers with new silicone. We also had issues with the primary shower, where there was water pooling and not draining properly because the tiles were not graded appropriately. Richard came in and inspected the issues. He was very knowledgeable about the different options for solving our issues and made recommendations based on the longevity of the solutions. He recommended retiling the floor and adding a layer of epoxy to fix our issues and not require work in the future. We ultimately decided to go with this solution. Last year my husband and I renovated our master bathroom and have had major problems with the grout staining and chipping. After reading the Grout Genie's reviews, I contacted him for a consult. I saw he also installs backsplashes which coincidentally I was looking to do as well. The owner, Rich, is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I left a message and he called back right away and spoke to me for almost 45 minutes about how he could address the grout issue in my master bathroom. He also asked me to provide him with pictures and provided me tentative quotes for both scopes of work. We scheduled a time for him to see the bathroom and kitchen and worked out a plan to address the issues. Today he completed a two-day install on the kitchen backsplash. The grout work is scheduled for later in the month and I will address that in am updated review. I could not be happier with the tile work Rich did in the kitchen. He is very methodical and precise with his cuts and obviously takes a lot of pride in his work (as he should). We had a marble shower tile floor that we were very unhappy with from a previous remodel. The high maintenance and degradation on tile edges was causing us a lot of stress. So here's the short, takeaway summary to my novel: Start to finish, the team at Grout Genie are absolutely stellar to work with and the customer service is bar none outstanding! The work is impeccably done; their communication is constant and spot-on; and Richard goes out of his way to make sure everything is right. By far the best company I've ever worked with. For those looking for the long of it, here goes! So I am renting out my home in the Centreville area while I'm across the country on the West Coast and a drippy leak sprung up in our master bathroom at the end of April. My renter narrowed down the culprit to the all-tile shower and not the toilet. There soon followed a highly frustrating series of interactions with my home warranty's plumbing company that resulted in unnecessary tile being pulled up around the shower drain and four exploratory holes cut into my kitchen ceiling. All that work for them to decide, at the end of May, that they *couldn't find the leak* but a 'complete shower pan replacement' was what would fix the problem. Riiiight. The first plumber sent out had mentioned that it could be leaking from the grout between the tiles, so I decided I'd try having the shower tile and grout resealed. I employed my skills in Google-fu to find companies that sealed tile and Grout Genie came up as top-rated in the area. I sent an inquiry email requesting a quote on a Saturday morning (West Coast time), fully resigned to probably getting a reply on Monday. Not even an hour later, I get a call and an email from Nicole at their business office, fully laying out their project timeline, the steps involved in applying the sealant, and how to send in photos of the project for a full estimate. She was so very thorough and up-front about when I could expect them to start work on my shower; there was an expected wait time due to COVID-19 measures and having a fully booked schedule. I mentioned to Nicole that I also needed to have the tiles around the shower drain put back in before I could get the sealing job done and she reassured me that they can do that, too. Relieved that I didn't have to find yet another company to fix this botched repair job, I sent off the photos of the shower my tenants had sent me. Half an hour later I get a call from *the* Richard, who walked me through every single step he could foresee in fixing the hot mess of a shower left over from the plumbers. In the end, Richard finished the tile repairs and fully sealed the shower floor slightly earlier than their initial estimate. The retiled area matched the existing floor tile, and the sealant was applied impeccably well. Best of all, there were no leaks anymore! Overall, it took about a month of work because things had to set and cure. He even had to come back after everything was done to repair damage to the sealant caused by the home warranty plumbing company (AGAIN)! Those extra two visits were above and beyond what I was expecting him to do, and he did it free of charge just to make sure that the work that he did remained as waterproof as when he'd just finished it. If you've stuck it out to the end of this saga, just know that your tile and grout job is in great hands with Richard and the Grout Genie company. Wow - yeah, these guys are good. I contacted them today regarding noticeable grout deterioration and bubbling on the drywall in the master bath (new home we just moved into this week). I called The Grout Genie, and was able to reach Rich, who came out same day (he was in the area, so he was literally here in minutes). I found them through Yelp based upon reviews, and happy to say their great rating on here is very accurate. Rich inspected everything and gave me advice on what to do to address the grout and drywall water issues. The interesting thing, Rich was very keen on telling me the best ways to both address this and not break the bank. He showed me things that I can do, and how I can do it with minimal cost. That really helps. With the new home, and renovations thus far, I don't exactly have a pot of cash for surprises. Rich also took the time to check out my flooring, as we have some 'character' in our old home with mildly sloping floors. He immediately was able to walk me through that, with pictures he has of other home jobs he has done. He did a much better job explaining that to me in layman's terms than my home inspector. My husband and I were looking to have a subway tile backsplash installed in our kitchen and we called Grout Genie after seeing several positive 5-star reviews here on Yelp. Grout Genie completed the backsplash for us last week and I am amazed and overwhelmingly pleased by his end product. Richard and his assistant, Gabriel, did a fantastic job and completed everything in just one day. I was impressed that they took the time to cover my new countertops and appliances with paper and tape to avoid getting grout on them. They also put drop cloths down on the floor to avoid tracking in dirt or damaging my wood floors. I am way overdue on providing a review for The Grout Genie - Rich, you are amazing. The services that you provide, your expertise, your customer service and honest opinion makes you the best in the business. My husband and I called The Grout Genie to help us with cracks in our grout that led to water damage and swelling in our shower threshold. We had just installed new custom glass doors less than six months before and were at risk of having to buy all new doors and remodel our new bathroom all over again due to the crappy work of another contractor. It was our great fortune to read about the Grout Genie in the Washington Post (Local Living, 2/18/21), as we were dealing with an issue that had consistently given us problems for the fifty years we've been in our home. The issue - upstairs bathroom leaking into downstairs kitchen. And as I've heard from neighbors, it's a pretty common problem in our neighborhood because of the way the tubs had been installed in the homes. Plumbers had been called and all said it wasn't a pipe issue. So, our tub grout seemed to be the problem. And that was part of it. But when we called Grout Genie and Richard came out - twice - once with specialized equipment that pinpointed moisture spots, he was able to tell us definitively where the problem was. We had shower doors (although the leaking had been on and off for years even with shower curtains) and Richard had them taken off, and when they did a hole was discovered in the tile behind one of the side shower door guides. Richard steamed cleaned the doors and tracks and removed all the old caulk under them, as well as around the tub and in the corners. He then used a special expoxy type grout to seal all of those areas well, repair the hole and reinstall the shower door over a new sealant. Richard and I had several conversations during this whole process, and both my husband and I were greatly impressed by his knowledge of all things grout, tile and most bathroom issues. This company is definitely invested in what it does and they don't cut corners. They go out of their way to give you prompt, excellent service and they are more than willing to explain what and why they're doing something. Brad worked efficiently over the course of two days, and I've been very pleased with the results. He was professional, courteous, and responsive. He arrived right on time both mornings and communicated with me throughout the day as needed. As I work from home, he was mindful about noise, and we used text message to communicate between meetings. Because I'm pregnant and was concerned about the VOCs from the color sealant, Nicole and Brad offered to leave the air scrubber overnight (something they would typically charge $95 for) for free, and Richard picked it up right on time the next morning.
