Best Feature: Fantastic service!! Worst Feature: A bit pricey - not a cheap visit!. It was finally time - I'd ignored the hair for nearly eight months, and with important events quickly approaching, I knew I had to take some time to get away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday schedule to give it some love. After a few less-than-satisfactory haircuts at other locations, I decided to take it to a serious level. Courtesy of family members, the recommendation had been made to visit Mitchell's Salon & Day Spa. I called in to make the appointment, and not only was the employee on the other end friendly, she had no problem making a special appointment to try to book me and another family member in at the same time right next to each other! I arrived and was very grateful for the prior notification from the attending family member regarding entry. The salon is a bit weird to get to at first - it's right next to a Crate & Barrel, and you have to enter the far left door and walk back to the elevator. You then take the elevator to the upper floor where you'll find the beautiful decor of the salon ready to greet you. I walked up to check in for the appointment, and the receptionist was nothing but pleasant. Within a few minutes, my new hairdresser approached me and took me back for a consultation. Not only was I thrilled about the lack of wait time, but she was glad to hear the woes of my hair and give me some suggestions. One of the biggest issues I've had with stylists previously was the inability to truly listen to what I was trying to say. One time I said, "I just want a trim" and the stylist cut off a good few inches. :-( My hairdresser, Sandra, not only listened to what I had to say and made fantastic suggestions, she also listened when I came back with a few things I still wanted to make sure were done. She did a fantastic job - I had a wash and style complete within the hour. She also gave me tips on different ways to style it, and told me if I didn't like the length of my bangs I could come back and she'd fix it to my liking. The salon itself is definitely upscale. I love the interior - very stylish and inviting. Everything looks clean and impeccable; definitely gives you the feeling that you're getting pampered. The only downside to this trip was the expense - it's a pricey haircut. But the service and experience is so amazing I would gladly pay the money again to have Mitchell's provide me with such a fabulous experience! I'll be back for sure and if you don't mind spending around $50 for a haircut, definitely be sure to stop in! I recommend Sandra - she's fantastic! read more

The Mitchell's Kenwood spa is a nice space as mentioned in previous reviews, but also as mentioned in previous reviews, the walls are very thin and you can clearly hear conversations in the rooms next door and in the hallway, which at times can interfere with your relaxing experience. read more

I normally go to Massage Envy for massages, but since they seem to be taking a very long time to re-open after the COVID shut-down, I've been to the Kenwood Mitchell's twice in the past month. Both times, the massages were excellent! They're taking all of the necessary precautions, but also making sure they can give their clients all of the health benefits of massage. THIS PLACE IS A FRAUD!!! Trying to get my hair done before school starts. They literally used whole entire time to ONLY bleach my hair and not even mention my hair was bleached before. After when it gets done my hair turns out to be FOUR DIFFERENT COLORS with dead ends. So many hair fell off before having any colors to add on. I was really disappointed so Taylor--the stylist brought the manager over. I was expecting to fix my issue but the manager was so rude and racist against me. She literally told me if I keep dye it MY HEAD WOULD FALL OFF. End up paying $270 for this hot mess! Long story............. I had seen the same beautician a few months ago and was happy with the color. But this past Tuesday Nov. 14, thngs did not go right. I ONY WANTED TO GET MY ROOTS RETOUCHED., However, my WHOLE HEAD had color on it. I told her that it looked brown. Then she said let's look at it in better lighting. Well it was not the color as when I had arrived. I even showed her a photo; it used to be Natural Blonde; not now. Then she told me to come back and she would correct it. Well I went back the following day and after several processses, such as removing the previous color etc, my head was burning. She then rinsed out the color. Next she put color on most of my hair again. And she told me that I would have to come back to have the roots redone because I was allergic to the product. Someone tried to advise my hair dresser. But that was not good either. This advisor told my hair dresser that I would probably like the color now WRONG! I DID NOT WANT TO CHANGE THE COLOR. I JUST WANTED TO KEEP THE SAME COLOR AS IT WAS WHEN I WENT THERE. I told her that there was a lot of red in my hair and I didn't want that also. I was reassured that it would be removed. She told me that I would have to come back AGAIN to have a product put on my hair before coloring the roots. I said alright. But when I got home I saw that my hair was now REDISH and GOLD WITH A LITTLE BLONDE. I am so upset because now I don't have blonde hair! So I have decided not to go back because it might become worse. Now I have to live with the white roots which was the reason I went there in the first place. I think Mitchell's should get a different company to buy products. Because the hair dresser tried to correct the problem, I chose to pay the bill the first day. Now I wish I hadn't paid the bill, plus the tip of $12.00 tip. INever willl go back to ANY MITCHELL'S HAIR SALON. I was trusting that there would be someone who knew much about hair coloring. Super bad experience start to finish. I have relatively damaged hair so I wanted to get an Olaplex treatment. After looking at the official Olaplex website, it was my understanding that all three steps of the Olaplex "method" can be done without dying, so I called Mitchell's to confirm that the Olaplex treatment listed on their website included all three steps of Olaplex, and they said yes, and when I booked the appointment (on the same phone call) I was told the service would be $30. I get to my appointment, and my stylist is 20 minutes late. She doesn't apologize, she just says "the computer didn't tell me you were here but I just finished my last appointment anyways." While shampooing my hair, she calls me by the wrong name and I corrected her. She applies one product (referred to as "the stuff" which I later learned was Olaplex step 2), and leaves it on for ten minutes, the absolute MINIMUM recommended on the official Olaplex site, (it says 10-20 minutes minimum), needless to say it did NOTHING to my hair. She rinses my hair and says let's get you over to the chair, at which point I say "aren't there supposed to be three steps to this service? That's what I was told when she made the appointment." And she says "I don't think so because I couldn't find step No. 3 back there, I think they just give it to you to take home." Like ok ? You don't even know for sure what the service is supposed to be ? She then proceeds to BRUSH my wet curly hair, and when I asked her to use a comb she did for five seconds and said "it just would take too long to get the tangles out and your hair tangles easily." and continued to brush it. I assumed that if she would be blow drying my hair because why else would you be brushing curly hair. But no. After calling me a different wrong name she just sat me under some weird fan-like thing for fifteen minutes and my hair looked awful. I go to leave and the front desk tells me the service will be $56 at which point I was just like um what solid no. And they told me I would have to pay extra to take the third step home. I told them what I was told on the phone when booking, and how my stylist called me the wrong name twice during the appointment, so the manager said they could comp the take home treatment, and then they proceeded to ask me if I wanted to leave a tip. I felt super uncomfortable saying no, so basically I ended up paying $36 to leave the salon with my hair looking absolutely awful and feeling the exact same way. Unbelievably poor service, everything they could've done wrong they did; I've been to cheaper salons with way better service unfortunately this was the only salon I could find that offers a stand alone olaplaex treatment. Hands down my favorite place to get a facial! I feel so relaxed while I am here. It had been a while since I went but I was pleased to see I could get an appointment the day of. I was super impressed with Shawna and her knowledge of her profession. She did such a great job teaching me about my skin and what it needed. I will say I was sad to see they no longer do the paraffin wax on your hands, they use some gloves instead to help moisturize but I feel as like they aren't as effective. I always enjoy my experience at Mitchell's Kenwood. The staff are gracious and friendly and the place is always very clean - which I think is important in a hair and spa place. I really love my hair gal (but won't share her name because I don't want her to be too busy!) as she always talks to me about what my hair style possibilities before she begins to cut. We've changed it up a few times and I like that. Whenever I've had may nails or tootsies done, the tech has been professional and nice. I feel like I'm in a classy, but approachable place when I visit Mitchell's. A higher end salon, but not stuffy or snobby. Keep up the good work - focused on making your customers feel special, and comfortable and I'll keep coming for my cuts and nails. read more

I also am in the middle of regrowing it, so it's got many weird textures going on. She handled it amazingly, and made me feel very comfortable the whole time. This was hands down the best experience I've ever had getting my nails done all across the board. My nail technician, Amanda, was easy to talk to and incredible with what she did. I got a full set and she took the time to make sure each one of my nails was perfectly shaped and painted, and they came out looking the best they ever have. When she had me pick out my color, she painted one of my nails with it first so I could actually see how it would come out, which was amazing. I had wanted to use my ring fingers as accent nails and had an idea in mind of what I wanted, and another nail artist, Delia, offered to do a design for me out of kindness. She was able to put actual flowers in the acrylic gel. Between the technical expertise of Amanda and the artistic genius of Delia my nails came out perfect. I am a regular at the Kenwood location. All of the stylists I have had for color and cut have been great -- exceeding my expectations. Quality and service has always been nice for me. Highly recommend! I've also been to get my nails done. Both mani and pedi. Can't say I've been as impressed with this part. Sometimes whatever product they apply to the polish at the end of the session makes the polish bubble -- which doesn't look very good. And lastly -- massages I've received here have been great. Kate did an excellent job with my extended stay manicure! She was friendly and patient with my daughter who was my tag along. The prices are more than I would spend on a regular basis but they do give you a very nice atmosphere, so I suppose you pay for the experience. Reason I say this is because I didn't get escorted inside the spa section of the establishment where you get your robe,you get shown around the spa section and you get to sit inside the relaxation room untill your appointment is ready..I sat in the lobby part of the establishment untill my appointment was ready. no one from customer service directed to the back. I had my first massage at Mitchell's in Kenwood recently. The experience was in general, ok. The massage was good- it was not the best I've had but certainly not the worst either- it was kind of in the middle. The spa experience itself was not quite what I expected. When I arrived at Mitchell's I was directed to the spa lobby where I was greeted by a nice woman. I noticed she had the disposable flip flops on that you get when you get a pedicure. I thought she must have had a pedicure that day and that it was nice. I was lead to a locker room that contained a robe, a smock, and disposable flip flops. The robe was made of towel material and was a bit rougher than I expected (or at least am used to). Had I not had the spa experience before I do not believe I would have known what to do with the smock (which from experience I knew I did not need). I found the disposable flip flops to uncomfortable. I would have rather worn socks. The locker room was otherwise comfortable and very clean. I then went to the relaxation room which was a little brighter than I expected and was surprised to see... a man in there. I guess I have never been to a spa with a coed relaxation room. Honestly it was a little hard for me to relax because of this. Tea and water were available for self service. My therapist was on time and very friendly. She did a good job with the massage but the room was cold and I could hear people walking by and talking periodically, which made it hard to relax. Overall, the massage was good and I left feeling a bit more relaxed when I came in. I do not think I will return to this location again based on the price and experience. Although the experience was not outright bad, there are too many other options available that better meet my needs for a similar price or less. read more

I go to Carly for hair cuts and color at the Hyde Park location. She's an awesome stylist, and I always come out with a better hair cut and color than I imaged would be possible for my fine hair. It's expensive, but it's totally worth it. I also go there from time to time to get my nails done. Try the Shellac. It costs a little bit more, but I've had the same manicure for a month, with no chips or anything. If your getting a pedicure, go to Jodi if you can. She's my favorite one there, though everyone I've been to does a good job. Here's what I like about Mitchell's - It's convenient You can book appointments online They don't push products on you (this has been my experience with my stylist) You can book a cut or color w/o them drying your hair and save about $20. That's great for color touch ups or trim, when you're just going home at the end of your day anyway. At the end of the year they always have "buy $100 gift certificate for $80" promo. I buy three of these each year to use on my cut and color. It's like saving 20% by prepaying. Here's what I don't love about Mitchell's - The parking lot at the Hyde Park location is crazy. Go see Falon for great hair! She always does an excellent job. I've gone to her since 2012 and have had cuts and colors. I've always left happy. The service at Mitchell's Kenwood is great. They are kind and always offering to help make your visit comfortable. I will say that their online pricing does not always match what they charge in the salon. The in-salon pricing is higher than what they have listed when you book your appointment on the website. I will continue to go to this salon as long as Falon is there :) read more

I've used a few times in a pinch. Mixed results. The last time I went (4weeks ago) I had a cut and color with a mid range stylist. It was by far the worst haircut and partial highlight I have had in the last 10 years. My hair is now brittle (noticed immediately after my first shower) and is breaking at the ends. I asked about the color sitting on my head for 45 minutes but she mentioned she had scheduled a haircut in between. I will never go back. On the hunt for a new place now. read more

I am sad to say that since moving back to Cincinnati, my experiences at the Kenwood Mitchell's Salon & Day Spa have been less than pleasurable. It boils down to laziness. I gave them a second chance after my first bad experience this past summer after, but after I booked back-to-back appointments this week - Friday (hair cut) and Saturday (style for a black tie event) - and both were poor due to laziness, I will not be returning. At the haircut appointment, the hair was not washed/dried, just simply cut. Then again, today, at the style appoint ("air foam"), the hair was not washed, dried or blown out. It was curled and the appointment lasted 15 minutes or less. Very sad. Hard earned money down the drain. Do better, Mitchell's. read more

I have been going to Mitchell's for years for my hair. I recently came here with a group for shellac manicures prior to a big event for the weekend and was very disappointed with our service. All three of our nails started to chip or peel within a day of our visit and a l. One of us did not receive a hot towel or hand massage as a part of her manicure and her nail tech was the same level of expertise as one of us that did receive that level of pampering. Overall, this was a pretty average and standard experience, but did not live up to the Mitchell's standard that we were expecting. I would not recommend coming here for a shellac manicure. read more

Love Jozie! She is a great stylist and very friendly. My complaint with Mitchells is their $100/for $80 gift card policy. You cannot purchase a gift card same day to use for services. You have to wait 24 hours to use gift card! I could have saved $40-50 on my services and products. I did not know their promotion was going on until I walked in that day, so had no opportunity to purchase ahead of time. Very disappointed with this policy. read more

My family gave me the gentleman's package last year for my 50th birthday and I was able to redeem the service today on my 51st birthday. If you have to get a year older, this is the way it should be done. This is something I would have never done on my own but it was absolutely wonderful. Rebecca cut and styled my hair and executed that challenge well. She had to put up with a lot because I initially felt like a fish out of water with all the lovely ladies that were there today. She made me feel comfortable and was very helpful and kind. Delia gave me my first manicure and I felt like a high society gentlemen. When she was finished with my nails she gave my hands a massage that blow me away. I have never experienced anything like that. Very enjoyable and relaxing to say the least. Betzee ... Betzee gave me the works with a full body therapeutic massage that makes it impossible for me to imagine not coming back. She had me so relaxed and laid back it was like heaven. The atmosphere was very calm and the soft Japanese koto stringed instrument music that was playing took me back to growing up in Japan. I was flooded with so many wonderful childhood memories on the beach as I lay there feeling all the stress melt away. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon ladies. She knows what she's doing and is always attending events to further her knowledge and education regarding the latest and greatest trends and breakthroughs in hair. Massage was amazing! I love my girl Lishang! Unfortunately, the one and only toilet for women on the spa side was out of order with a posted sign. After my massage I wanted to shower off all the oils but there were no towels in the women's locker room. When I brought these two concerns to the attention of the check out girl she quickly gave me a discount... of 5%.... 5% is $4.50, REALLY!!!!! I used to go to Mitchells all the time when it was over across from Panera in Kenwood. That location was nice. Lots of light well decorated cozy and soothing music. This location above garage at Kenwood Town Center is hardly what I would call a spa feel. It is dark and cavelike. A mass maze of dark brown cabinets in a warehouse. You have to dodge supports as you walk around. It is so loud it completely ruins the relaxing atmosphere I am there for. Conversations echo everywhere. The only daylight that comes in is the waiting area. My stylist Jo was great. I asked if she worked at other locations but unfortunately NO. Had a problem with a gift certificate that took a while to figure out. So I had to stand with my canes on knees that do not allow me to stand for 5 min without excruciating pain. Front desk staff was very polite. But with the cheap hotel atmosphere, I will never be back. Maybe another location is nicer and more relaxing. read more
