Decided to come here on a whim during a weekday after picking up my cousin and his family from the airport. Long story short, after an international trip, the one thing my nieces craved was some Indian food. Well, they also needed to buy groceries from Patidar, so bingo! I've truthfully never come here in the past. We've purchased their mithai before, but never sat down to eat. This was a first for me and for my family, for as local as we are. My cousin is from PA, so this was an experience they were looking forward to anyways. With that said, the process is fairly simple and frill free. Place your orders at the main counter and you'll receive within maybe 5 minutes, 10 if busy. Competing with neighboring restaurants will require super fast service, so Mithaas fits the bill. We ordered a ton of items to share, including but not limited to: Dahi Puri Channa Bhatura Pani Puri Mooli Paratha Dosa I'm probably missing some items. Channa Bhatura is my personal favorite. This - like some others - is an Amritsari-based Channa. That's the best. It's a slight bit spicy, but worth it. The mooli paratha was quite a big portion size. Enough to split though. If you don't mind the no frills aspect to this place (drinking water from a water cooler, etc.), this is worth the experience and food. Also, you can be done with groceries and dinner in less an hour. How can you go wrong? read more

We have been to this vegetarian restaurant 2-3 times in the past couple of years. Even though more of us are not vegetarians, we have always liked the food. The last time, we stopped there for lunch during a summer weekday. We order three thalis. They were reasonably priced and a lot of food. And quite tasty too. WARNING: No Longer 100% Vegetarian I've ordered from this restaurant a few times. The food is decent, not too acidic, and the dokla is especially good. I usually get the thali and always appreciated that this was a fully vegetarian spot ,that's why I felt safe ordering here. Unfortunately, that's no longer the case. I recently ordered via DoorDash and was shocked to find chicken in my thali. For lifelong vegetarians like me, this is a big deal. I took a bite before realizing and thank Goodness I spit it out. Mithaas, this is unacceptable. If you're adding meat to your menu, you must clearly update your online descriptions and give vegetarians the option to avoid it. Came here with 3 other friends and it was a blast! We got multiple appetizers to share, the puri, Manchurian cauliflower, cheese bread are all so flavorful and fun to eat. I then got Chana curry with this puffy bread, the bread was amazing but the Chana is not as flavorful as those appetizer dishes. My friends got vanilla milk shake, dosas, and the special sandwich. No offense to other fabulous North Indian specialty restaurants here in the Garden state, but Mithaas is the King of all. We've had very good experience both at the Edison and the Piscataway location and this one is no different. They have a great selection of sweets (Indian desserts), chaat items and main courses. Our most favorite is the Bhel puri which is second to none. The dishes here are really rich and creamy in taste, presented beautifully on the plate and explodes vividly in your mouth. The sweets are the best gifts you can get someone you are visiting as a family. They promptly advise you to finish them within few days as they are made of milk. This place is horrible and extremely overpriced. Our family got sweets from the North Brunswick location and when we ate them once we got home, they were spoiled and we would've gotten sick. When we called them, they said the sweets were out for 2 hours and that's why they went bad but fresh sweets will not go bad that quickly. This place is going downhill fast. The food has become subpar, and the worst place is grimy and worn out. They add a 15% gratuity to your bill, but there is no service, you need to go to a homedepot branded plastic bin to get your own water, which is next to stacked boxes ! We went to Mithaas (North Brunswick) a couple of weeks back. Closing time is 9:00 pm. They took orders until 8:45 pm. Typically, one would expect to have at least half hour to receive and finish the food. Not at Mithaas. They are horribly different and bad. Around 8:30 pm, the cleaning guys started cleaning the floors and tables immediately next to us. At 8:50 pm, the crew shut off the dining area lights. It was total darkness for a couple of minutes. At least two other tables and we were still working on the food that was served around 8:45 pm. There were no minimum safety lights (which I am sure is a code violation). We were emphatically told that the place closes at 9:00 sharp. Apparently they do not give a damn to customers looking for good service. Else, at the very least, they will clearly state that last order is 8:00 pm. We are never going there again. I would have given zero stars, if such option was available. read more

Mithaas is a great place for vegetarian Indian meals and traditional fancy desserts. They mostly serve north Indian street food as well as many other varieties including variety of platters. Its a favorite spot amongst few of our family and friends. I usually get the Mithaas club sandwich and veggie wrap from there. I'd avoid the place on a Friday or even during the Weekend - as it gets especially crowded and it can take away from the dining experience. I end up getting a take out from this place over the weekend instead of dining in there. Only reason I knocked off 2 stars because the dining area wasn't clean and avoid bathrooms at any cost. They are priced slightly on the higher side for snacks and eats but the taste, flavor and service makes it worthy. Their Rasmalai and Rabri are my personal favorites. Overall, coming here you need to expect fast service for some really authentic food. This place a great place and the food is always very good. Service is okay and the prices are on the higher end, but there is a great variety of food and options to choose from. My friend has been coming here for a while and highly recommended Mithaas, so the two of us came here for lunch on a Friday. It was only after stepping into the restaurant that I realized I had also dined here before (a couple years ago). So many great options on the menu; it was tough deciding what to get. They have a little bit of everything: Indian street food, paneer, dosa, biryani, Indo-Chinese options, and dessert (well, a lot of dessert). Service is just average. Order up front and the food is brought to your table. We ended up sharing the pani puri and samosa chaat. I had the saag paneer and my friend had the paneer paratha. The pani puri was on par with the only other time I've had it (at another restaurant), although we did let a couple of them get soggy, whoops! (There were 6 total.) The samosa chaat was disappointing in taste and we also spent quite a while tugging at the one samosa in the dish. The saag paneer was about a 3.5 or 4 out of 5, nothing extraordinary. It didn't come with rice, which was $2 extra on top of the $8, but was still a reasonable price compared to other places. I thought my friend's paneer paratha was best out of everything we ordered. You get two parathas, which may not seem like much for a meal, but we also had two appetizers and the parathas themselves aren't light. Absolutely delicious chaat in the tri-state area. I'm not a person who eats at a lot of Indian places since I'm very picky and want my food to be very authentic. This is one place that I'd never hesitate to eat on any given day and have been here like dozens of times. I've pretty much tried everything on the menu except for their South Indian offerings. Their Thaalis are a delight to the tummy, and they occasionally do some special regional thaalis which are equally good and a must try. Besides those, the other delicacies that we always order are Aloo Parantha the best I've had so far. Their dahi chat is pretty awesome too, it takes quite some skill to get that sweet/sour spot right on the dahi and they do it consistently well. I'm not a huge fan of Bengali sweets, however I can tell they are pretty authentic like what you'd eat back in India. The service is average to below average on a busy night, however the food beats it and makes people come back again and again, I guess! And finally their Maalpua Rabri is a must try! It's heavenly. We ordered few different dishes on a weekend and they were decent. Idli sambhar and medu wada sambhar were good, they need to increase the quantity of Sambhar and chutney they provide. Vada pav was okay, being from Bombay I have a higher expectation when it comes to vada pav. Club sandwich was good and had a very generous portion size. Came here with my family this past Sunday for lunch. Food was super mediocre and unimpressive to be honest. I had the chole bhature which tasted mostly like the masala from the boxes. The rest of the table had an assortment of thalis, vada pav and bhel. No one was enthused about their meal because it tasted like it was made hours ago and just re assembled. We also had an assorted pakora and bhajiya platter which was clearly comprised of mostly frozen food (clear because one of the bhajiya was paneer based and its texture was like a rubber eraser) Service is great... order at the register, tell them your table number, food delivered, and finally pay at the register when you are done. They have a water gallon and utensils station off to the side for patrons to grab as needed. Food wise, I would not recommend to visit this location especially because there are so many comparable restaurants in the vicinity. The main reason I give this place a two star is the food and the service. These are the two main pillars of food service business. Food: the khasta kachori is just wrong. Khasta kachori is chat type of a dish. It is not aloo subji with pieces of kachori at the bottom. The chole Bhature were good and I would recommend it. The pav bhaji was good to average. Service: the service is really lacking. If you advertise 3% discount for paying cash, you should give it with honestly. I don't care if it is 3% of $3 or $300. Also, there are cups for water, but no jugs.i understand the concept that they are trying to bring, but similar concept restaurants have jugs of water that you can use. I would not give it even one star. This place is very bad. First of all, our spoons were gritty, and used. They felt bitten. Disgusting. Secondly, the dosa chef was on break during lunch hour!
