In an attempt to try a new spot, my friend and I came here for a late dinner. It was past 10 PM so there wasn't a wait. They did seem bit discombobulated about seating us though. One person was bringing us to our table, and another was saying there's no table and we waited by the sushi bar for a few minutes. They have a pretty extensive menu. We ordered the spicy tuna avocado ball, some sushi rolls. I ordered one of the combo makis and my friend ordered the spicy yellowtail cucumber roll, shrimp mango and something else I don't remember. The spicy tuna avocado ball was a bit disappointing. Yes, it was melt in ur mouth good. But lacks in flavor. U barely tasted any spice. They need to step up the sauce on top. The rolls were all good and fresh. My fave was my friend's shrimp mango. We took a look at the dessert menu and it seemed odd. Didn't look like anything was made in-house. So we skipped it. Pretty good place. Would come for the sushi alone. Service needs work. But the sushi is enough to get me to return. read more

Came here with my family to celebrate Mother's Day and we left happy and full. First off when you walk in, the ambiance and overall vibe of the place is great. Very modern Asian style decor, sleek and clean. The restaurant is spacious and has a full service bar. The food itself was good too. Lots of sushi options from your traditional rolls to their large selection of specialty rolls. Plenty of other options are there too like several noodle, rice, beef, chicken and pork dishes as well as vegetarian offerings. A stand out for me was the duck served with the bao buns. Usually, restaurants who don't specialize in duck butcher the dish and it doesn't taste all that great. However the duck here was spectacular, tremendous crunch from the skin, moist fatty meat and a nice sauce to go with it. Duck done right. They have a full service bar and a pretty lengthy drink menu. Unfortunately I was driving this particular time so I couldn't enjoy any liquid libations so next time. Some of the cocktails on there looked delicious. Plenty of tvs are also around the bar area. Pricing is a bit high but keep in mind this is Japanese and Forest Hills, so you have to know what you are getting into. I'd say it was well worth it tho. The owner should pay their staff a livable wage. The place is comfortable and elegant. However upon return to the restaurant I encountered a disturbing experience. Management followed my spouse and I outside to question us about the TIP that we left. I was upset that someone from the establishment would embarrass us like that. I explained that we left half the tip on the credit card and the other half as cash on the table. He half apologized and went back inside. Instead of judging us, next time check the tables or PAY YOUR WORKERS A LIVABLE WAGE. I didn't like that the waitress touched my naked chopsticks with her bare hands when clearing appetizer plates from the table. Luckily I was able to use some other utensils. Other than that she was attentive and kind. we ofcourse left a tip regardless of the service. Staff: The waitress staff here is kind and formal. It is unfortunate that the management is so strict that the staff can come off as "robotic" at at times. But sending people outside to chase you down for 18-25% tips when this person clearly mis-judged takes the cake! Overall the food is great but I no longer recommend this place. This restaurant opened around end of 2016. I came here around 4pm during their happy hour special. Staff was very attentive and nice. The decor is very high end. Very welcoming interior. Modern and yet cozy. This restaurant makes you believe your in a higher end Manhattan restaurant like in Tribeca or Chelsea or in the Meat Packing District once you go in. Solid sushi for the locale. I've been here 2 times and it hasn't disappointed. Don't go expecting, morimoto, gari, sushi nakazawa type of sushi here. It's a good spot to get your sushi fix if you're in the area. Here's the breakdown: The restaurant: in a predominantly Jewish area with not many Japanese eats, it's definitely a welcome. The place is brand new with very nice decor. You walk in and you'll automatically get greeted by a host. The bar has large screen TV's where you can grab a drink and watch a game. Food: get the specialty rolls. I've had the 108st multiple times which I recommend. Everything else to me seems standard. Like I said. It's to get your fix! & it ain't bad! Service: excellent! They have so many workers! They fill up your cup of water/tea without you asking! I have nothing bad to say about them with service. 5 stars for the service! I came here to celebrate Mother's Day and they were able to accommodate my party of 6 even though I only called an hour ahead to reserve a table. I was very impressed because I had brought some cupcakes from Silk Cakes (highly recommend!) to celebrate. Our waitress was so thoughtful and plated the cupcakes so prettily. She even added a flower and wrote "Happy Mother's Day" on one of the cakes! The food was not very impressive but not terrible either. Sashimi was slightly overpriced for the portion they gave us, but I didn't mind once they brought out our cupcakes. I've never seen a restaurant be so thoughtful for a dessert that's not theirs! Finally, they even gave out chopsticks as a special Mother's Day gift at the end. What a nice surprise to end our meal! Maybe I'll come back to see what they do for Father's Day. read more

The service here is remarkable. Ambiance is great for a date night. Fish was fresh, and COLD (plus). Gyoza was crispy and probably the best I have had in a long time. Also, the portions seemed larger and this was nice for an appetizer. Soup was very hot (I was warned about this). It's usually room temperature in a lot of Japanese restaurants. I loved that it was hot. I have to admit, I do not like the smell coming from the bar. If I didn't see the positive Yelp reviews beforehand, I probably would have walked out because of this. Fortunately, you do not smell the odor in the restaurant area. Presentation was average. I am really focused on the fresh food. This restaurant is such a hidden treasure in Forest Hills!!!!!! The food is so good & fresh and the cocktails are also very tasty!!!! We arrived as a party of 7 for my brother's B'day & I must say that it was the best decision. We all ate & drank as our appetizers arrived promptly...we order shumai, a couple rolls, & calamari. ALL were so yummy!!!!! We ordered our entrees at the same time that we ordered our appetizers and usually I am VERY hesitant to do this because the entree almost always comes out at the same time as the apps. But this was not the case as the entree did come out after the apps with a nice buffer in between. Super duper awesome!! Went for my brother's birthday for a party of 11. Firstly, the service was 5 star all the way. Our server was absolutely fantastic!! She knew exactly how to work with a large group and was calm and accommodating to all our many requests. (And she was hilarious but that's besides the point) :) Back to the food. Firstly BEST EDAMAME IVE EVER HAD. NO JOKE. Hands down. 2 bowls were scarfed down by the table in 5 minutes. Some who didn't even care for edamame in general... were swallowing it. We ordered about 15 different rolls including the white tuna sushi roll, the jalapeno fish role, and a bunch of others i can't remember but every single one was so tasty. The tiramisu was good and the pistachio berry dessert and well as the souffle, however they ran out of the custard and bombas we wanted. Hopefully they will have it next time. What we had, and our thoughts: - Naruto and Rainbow Rolls: The raw fish in both rolls were borderline fresh, and probably should not have been served as sashimi in these rolls. We didn't get sick, but the rolls left our stomachs feeling uneasy. - Kani Salad: Bland and a bit watery at the base. - Pad Thai with Chicken: Unevenly flavored. My initial serving of noodles was an interesting blend of sweet and sour, but much of the rest of the dish was too salty. Overall: A disappointing experience for food. Think I found my new favorite sushi spot in Queens! With all due respect to my homies at Bamboo Ya, this place is gorgeous and so damn delicious. The dining set pieces are official, (or as my wife said) this place really has some good taste. Shrimp shumai was beautiful, light, and steamed to meaty perfection. The soy sauce they serve with these bad boys was on another level. The Hot Mama roll was exquisite. Slightly spicy, slightly crunchy, all sorts of delicious. The sauce drizzled all over? Crack. The salmon sashimi was a little off putting sitting atop a wierd shaved carrot, but once I dug in, it was smooth, plump, nearly melt in your mouth goodness. I NEVER order or eat sashimi so the fact that I enjoyed it is enough for me to sing its praises. Now, this was meant to be a "light sushi night, but once them aromas hit and kur taste buds started singing, we had to go back in for more. I have come to this place twice and have enjoyed both dinners. Some friends and I went a couple weeks ago during the week and it was fairly empty...the food was great and the service was friendly. We ordered edamame, vegetable gyoza and a couple different rolls all were good (not the best but certainly good enough to come back). The second time we came on a Friday night and it was packed. Drinks were strong and food was brought in a timely manner, correct and not rushed (which we were worried about since it was crowded). It was quite noisy which is why I cannot give it 5 stars. It was really difficult to carry conversations across the table. We would definitely go back as a fall back since we know what to expect. read more

Ordered take-out from Mito on Sunday afternoon. I would like an opportunity to sit down for a meal at the restaurant, especially after enjoying the solid take-out offering. Quality: I was initially skeptical about ordering take-out sushi, as fresh from the chef is really the way to go, but at this moment in time, when that is not an option, I was willing to take the risk. And I am glad I did. We ordered a bunch of items and overall it was very solid. The New Style Tuna Tartar Appetizer was probably the dish that held up the best, likely as the last to be prepared. Tasty and fresh tuna, avocado, and seaweed salad added together perfectly. The Salmon Avocado roll was basic, but good. The Spicy Kani Roll truly had some heat, which I was a fan of. And the Sushi And Sashimi For 2 Platter was a great deal. With 18 pieces of sashimi, 10 pieces of sushi, a Spicy Tuna Roll, and a Tempura Shrimp V.S Lobster Roll, it was huge. Sticking with mostly basics, the fish was all fresh, though the tuna was definitely the best. And even though the Tempura Shrimp V.S Lobster Roll lost some of its crispiness with travel, it was still among the best bites of the meal. Quantity: We went overboard with our order, which probably would have been enough to feed four people. Value: $14 for New Style Tuna Tartar Appetizer. $8 for Seaweed Salad. $7 for Salmon Avocado Roll. $8 for Spicy Kani Roll. $65 for Sushi And Sashimi For 2 Platter. Ambiance: Mito is located in the Forest Hills area of Queens. And while I ordered food for take-out, they are definitely more of a dine-in restaurant. Just from peeking in, I saw a long and elaborate bar and sushi bar, as well as a ton of seating. The design was extremely stylish and modern, making use of different lighting, and wall separations to create a chic feel. It is a place that feels like it would be buzzing on most weekends, and would be great for date night. Crowd: When I arrived my food was sitting on a small table near the entrance, and the staff were finishing up packaging another meal. With sushi not as available during the crisis, they are likely a popular option for people in the area. Service: My food was ready right on time. But I don't understand why the lady had to help me pour my soy sauce????? Like I poured it already and then she just poured more like whyyyyyyyyyyyyy? The sushi pizza was raw fish and avocado on top of a scallion pancake? It's not bad, but nothing special about it. The scallion pancake doesn't go too well because I've had it before with other crusts. Sashimi and Sushi for 2 -18 pcs of sashimi, 10 pcs of sushi, 1 spicy tuna roll & shrimp V.S. lobster roll. The plating for the sashimi was beautiful, but I just think it makes more sense to put 2 of 9 diff sashimis, instead of 3 of 6 diff sashimi. 1. gets rid of the awkwardness of taking 2 pieces. 2. gives you more variety 3. we didn't like some fish, so i just gave it to him to eat it I wish their rice was better for the tuna roll because it did not look or taste good. The service, ambience and the sushiiiiiiiiiiis were amazing. ordered "lady gaga", "joker" and other yummy sushi rolls but had to say it was tough choice to make "joker" sushii roll as the winner of them all. If like something with spice go for it. My server "Anna" was very sweet, attentive & made sure we were happy at Mito. The place itself has beautiful dining and bar which is eye pleasing.
