We were recommend this location from a local during our stay and so glad we tried it! I had mixed emotions about trying the Chicago deep dish pizza as some mentioned the crust wasn't to their liking based off what we are accustomed to in California. This PLACE DID NOT DISAPPOINT! We tried the basic deep dish pizza with pepperoni to go and it was delicious! The sauce was tasty and thick, while the burned edges gave it an added flavor unlike any pizza we have ever tried. The bread is not a "pie" crust but more a fluffy, thick bread. I do recommended you order ahead as it's a 45-50 minute process to cook the masterpiece. It was well worth wait. They have two entrances for this location. One is the pick-up and go side while the entrance closest to the street corner, is the sit-down restaurant. I did notice people waiting outside and when I walked in to see the vibe, they had a small bar area and had several high tables to sit at. Our first family meal in Chicago unfortunately was a completely sad experience. After arriving a little late into O'hare we yelp'd a pizza spot to hopefully check off and satisfy the deep dish pizza portion of our visit as we didn't wanna do the standard Giordano's or Lou Malnati's which we've done too many times already. First off we though, hey, let's see if we can order the pizza in advance as we drive our rental car into the city as it takes 40-45 minutes usually to cook. So my wife called a few times and no answer. The message referred to their website so she looked it up and joined the "wait list" to reserve a seat and ordered a pie online 20 minutes before we were to arrive thinking hey we'll save us and them time. The longer we sit at a table and wait is time they won't be able to seat another party. Well that's at least what we thought! When we arrived we spoke to a young lady at the front area and she told us that once we ordered a pizza online we cannot eat it there. Okay I understand people trying to cheat the system by ordering a pizza online then arriving and skipping the line that's waiting patiently to be seated. But we also joined the "wait list" and there was only one other party standing there to be seated. We asked if we can be seated AFTER them. She didn't look like she understood nor seemed to care about having us at the restaurant so she went to get I guess someone that's senior to her. Some guy walked from the back kitchen and just told us that we can't eat at the restaurant after ordering online...no introduction...no greeting...just a denial like we're a disorderly bunch. There was no raised voices on our part just trying to find a solution and a table to sit and enjoy our pizza. The guy was a complete ahole and dismissive. Girl didnt seem to understand they have a wait list on their website and they didn't answer their phone. It was just a complete head scratching moment. We ended up just taking our pizza 20 miles into the city where we ate it after parking, checking in on our hotel bed. You can probably imagine how well that went. SO GOOD! This was my first time trying Chicago deep dish and it did not disappoint. The service was great and our server was super helpful answering questions. The inside was cool with plenty of seating. Make a reservation ahead of time so you don't have to wait for a table to free up. The pizza does take about 45 mins to come out so be prepared to wait but it's so worth it. We ended up getting a bunch of toppings on a medium pizza which was perfect for two or three people. The wait time can be so long here, but the pizza is phenomenal and I'm all for it! I love deep dish and a good solid pizza and Pequod's delivers! A slice is a lot but it's so good that you end up eating more. You can also reserve via Tock, but beware that the normal dinner time can be booked out early! Arrived at 10:30am on a Friday morning and we were first in line. People started trickling in afterwards and by the time they opened there were maybe 15 in line. Didn't seem like we needed a reservation even though we were asked if had one. Well if you were looking for a divey atmosphere, from the state of the bathrooms to the flat Diet Pepsi, ya found one here. Clearly this place has turned into a tourists' sanctuary, but that didn't stop the staff from giving us exceptional service. We ordered a medium pan pizza with extra pepperoni (the extra was a mistake and unnecessary lol) and half jalapeno with a half Caesar salad. The salad was.... a salad, nothing to write home about but completely essential to help cut the richness of the pizza. The pizza, Oh Lordy, what an undertaking. I don't think I'm qualified to judge a deep dish pizza, because I've had it only once or twice before. The crust was fine, the sauce wasn't sweet, the pepperoni was crispy the way I like it, and the best part was the crispy edges. It's just such a massive amount of food, just one slice almost sent me over. But it did feel like we got the quintessential Chicago deep dish experience that we were looking for. My husband and I were in the area with time to kill, so we decided to walk on over to a Chicago institution. Pequod's Pizza's reputation definitely precedes them, so I regret that we weren't hungrier for our visit. We almost didn't get in. It was late afternoon/early evening on a Monday and the entire first floor was full. The upstairs was lesser so, but calling ahead or making a reservation is definitely suggested. From what I've gathered, this is more of a local favorite, and the vibe of the place matched that. In my opinion, the place is a little divey. Each table has a butcher block sitting on it, I'm assuming as a place for the pizza to rest without burning the tabletop. We didn't order pizza, and the block took up valuable real estate on the two-top that we were seated at. It was extremely cold outside that day and upstairs was very drafty. We watched as a larger group shied away from the corner booth, stating that it was freezing by the window. They returned shortly thereafter since the booth was the only available spot large enough to accommodate their group. My husband ordered a bottled beer, and I a canned cider. We also ordered a meatball sub with hot peppers and cheese to share. It was meant to be a light snack before we went for massages around the corner, but it turned out to be a very healthy portion. It was enough that neither of us finished our half of the sub. It was definitely shareable. The service was okay and atmosphere was very casual. Pequods is amazing! This is a fork and knife, cheese pulling experience only for the brave. Chicago deep-dish pizza really does live up to the hype, just don't expect "regular pizza." It's gonna be heavy, take 30-45 minutes to bake, and one or two slices will fill you up so be prepared. Trust me it's all worth it. Coming to Chicago, I was on a mission to have some incredible pizza. I stumbled across Pequod's, and it did not disappoint. We ordered a small pizza and wings, which was way too much food for two people. The deep-dish pizzas are absolutely massive. My only regret is that I didn't order extra sauce, I felt that was the only thing holding it back from being perfect. It does come with sauce, but the amount is limited. Its a little far from the city, so got the pizza delivered (I'd heard that the pizza is still good after being delivered). It was totally fine, and I'm sure it was very close to the in store pizza. My hubby & I treated our "sudden" guests from Paraguay to deep dish pizza on Thursday (6/18). Due to all the hype I've heard and read for a couple years about Pequod's in Lincoln Park, we took them there. We still prefer Lou Malnati's, hands down. Hubby & I shared a salad... I make better salads and dressings! We ordered a large pan pizza which was overly salty with burnt crust edges. The cheese and tomato sauce were really good, but the saltiness killed it for me. The place was packed and very noisy. Not sure if it was quieter on the second floor. When you have lots of customers, it's important to have a system of checking the status of the restrooms very often. They were quite neglected. We often have out-of-town and foreign guests to host and show off our city to. We always include a deep dish pizza meal for their experience, and usually at Lou Malnati's. Always a great experience, especially the branch in downtown Naperville- consistently good. And Lou's really makes the best salad than anywhere! Sometimes for a potluck contribution I just pick up a Lou's salad, guaranteed to make everyone happy. The toppings do cost around 2.50-3.50 per topping, but they are generous with them. The crispy crust was fantastic, but the sauce seemed underseasoned. This is considered one of the top spots for Chicago deep dish and I was literally concentrating on each bite to figure out what people liked about it. There is tons of seating (2 floors!) but I still suggest having a reservation to avoid long waits. We ordered the famous Pan Cheese Pizza in the Personal size which is honestly plenty for 2 people. We also decided to try the Thin Crust Pizza in the Small Size which is sharable among 2-4 people. To our surprise, it only took about 25 minutes (compared to the advertised 45+ mins). We didn't add any toppings and honestly, I figured the pizza should stand on its own without the toppings. The Pan Cheese Pizza was very one note. The tomato sauce was the only thing I could taste, the cheese was entirely lost, and the dough was dry and almost stale. The Thin Crust Pizza was not even what I would consider "thin crust". It was just regular pizza but at least they did not skimp out on the cheese here. The Pequod's IPA on Draft was pretty refreshing, slightly hazy, with a nice hop aroma. They were still busy at lunch time on a Monday afternoon. We were seated right away and staff was friendly. Pizza easily takes 30-40 min so don't come too hungry. Since traveling a few times to Chicago, I ask my colleagues for pizza recommendations. I have tried it all and Peqoud's Pizza is hands down the best deep dish pizza in Chicago! I ordered a large pepperoni, sausage and Italian beef pizza. The Sausages are huge! Purposely did not add veggies because I was going to bring the leftovers back to CA. So delicious! Great cool laid back vibe with and 2nd floor. Also has a bar area too. A few things to know- Parking in front may be challenging, need to find parking in between the residential streets close by. Always make a reservation (don't chance it at the door); this place is always full. I learned this the hard way but since we got there before the dinner rush, they were able to take us as a walk in. Unlike other pizza places where you can place your order/pay while you're waiting for a table, (it takes about 30 minutes to cook the pizza) Peqoud's does not allow this. Definitely a MUST if ever in Chicago! They do sell frozen pizzas online, but definitely not the same as the freshly cooked ones. We got a mushroom, and meatball deep dish. It was dry, even with having ordered extra Marinara, garlic sauce, blue cheese, and Caesar. The grease never comes through to make the deep dish bread soft. It also didn't have enough cheese. Again a grease issue. It was fine though, not the best pizza I have ever had. We also go a thin crust style pepperoni pizza which has a thicker crust than a traditional thin crust style and if it was thinking of its self as tavern style it was wrong. But that pizza was better than the deep dish. Although the crust was like a stale bread. For an appetizer we got the mozzarella triangles. This place has been calling my name for a long time. Finally gave in to temptation. Went in for lunch and already a wait. Put my pizza order in as pan pizza takes 45 minutes. I'm glad I finally got to come here! I enjoyed their style of deep dish pizza. High quality ingredients and caramelized crust. My personal pan pizza had pepperoni, mushroom, and fresh basil. They were very generous with the pepperoni and it was excellent. I couldn't taste the other two ingredients as much. I appreciated that pizza didn't feel heavy or dense, like I often experience with deep dish. I had the Caesar salad too and that was a pretty good appetizer. Excellent drinks. I also order it for the freezer, but over the years have hear so many great things about Pequad's and when flying into town recently a few of us came here for lunch. The staff here was great! They're very helpful and friendly. The menu is typical for Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. I asked our server what their good or signature toppings were and she suggested their sausage, so we ordered a sausage and pepperoni and a pepperoni with jalapeño. Their pizzas need time to be prepared and bake, but I don't think this took at long as Lou's takes. The pizzas came out beautiful, piping hot, and looking so very tasty! Their tomato sauce was nice, crust was decent, cheese was nice too. Pepperoni was average, but the sausage was really good. Overall, I didn't get the same "satisfaction" from their pizza that I normally get from eating at Lou's. Might be the difference in the texture and taste of the crust. This was really good, but to me Lou's is just a little bit better. That being said, I definitely enjoyed this visit and I'd definitely return. read more

Coming from San Antonio, we went straight from the airport to this place because of all the amazing reviews--and they were absolutely right. The food did not disappoint. It's easily a 5+ for me. The cheese pull was incredible, the caramelized crust was perfectly crisp, and the Italian sausage was to die for. Every bite lived up to the hype. My only complaint was the seating. We walked past several empty tables only to be seated next to the bathroom on the second floor. I asked if we could move, but was told the seating was assigned. That didn't really make sense when there were multiple empty tables for two. If the next guests haven't even arrived yet, they wouldn't know where they were originally supposed to sit. Thankfully, after a few minutes, COMMON SENSE prevailed and they moved us to a much better table, which I really appreciated. The food is absolutely worth the visit, but the reservation and seating process could use a little more flexibility. After some pestering from friends attempting to live their deep dish dreams vicariously through me, intended up at Pequod's for Saturday lunch. I made a reservation just in case, which proved unnecessary. I ordered a personal-sized pan pizza (what they call deep-dish). Since it was made to order, it would take 35-40min. Since I added sausage, onions, peppers, and jalapenos, it cost $18.82 ($11.75 base, $1.66 per veg topping, $2.09 for the sausage). The marinara sauce tasted well seasoned, unlike Giordano's sauce that seemed to have become strangers with herbs. The sausage was extra seasoned, making it the most fragrant pizza sausage I've had to date. The caramelized crust exhibited a `I can't believe it's not burnt cheese` moment at first bite. Wow! So happy we finally got to try Pequod's. This deep dish was Soo good (cross between Detroit style and Chicago Deep dish). It was unlike any other deep dish in Chicago and I've tried ALOT (Lou Malnatis, Gino's East, Giordanos, Pizzeria Due, Pizzeria Uno) Standard pizza comes as cheese and you have to pick and choose your toppings. We got 2 medium pizzas and the house salad for 3 people and it was way too much food (took 6-slices home). Pizzas we got were a sausage and mushroom and Canadian bacon and pineapple. The Hawaiian with Canadian bacon and pineapple was actually my favorite. Crust is burnt cheese but so good! For 3 people, a medium pizza is 6-slices. When I crowdsourced Chicago recs from my instagram story, Pequod's was the most recommended restaurant regardless of type of food. It was the people's champ. I cross referenced every rec I got with the r/chicagofood reddit thread, and even the nose in the sky reddit users of Chicago had mostly positive things to say about Pequod's. I knew I was in good hands. When I walked in at 11:30am on a Monday, I was pretty shocked that it was kind of a hole-in-the-wall sports bar like setting. I was expecting an old school Italian restaurant, but I much preferred the no frills ambiance. I grabbed a table for 1 and scanned the menu that read"Best Pizza In The Universe!" at the top in big bold letters. I was licking my lips. I went with a 12" medium pizza ($22.95) with sausage and pepperoni, and the Pequod's IPA. I really don't even drink beer as I just get so full off it, but something about getting a deep dish pizza in Chicago at 11:30am on a Monday is just so far from who I am on a normal day that I felt like I should go all the way. That IPA smacked too. I sat there for 45 minutes baby sitting my IPA while awaiting this behemoth of a pizza. It arrived in an iron skillet, steam escaping through the cracks of one of the most beautiful amalgamations of dough, sauce, cheese, and meat that my pupils have ever witnessed. I immediately wished my brother could teleport here, as he is the only human being that can eat more than me. I ate 3 out of the 6 slices and was stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey, but what a delectable meal this was. Every bite has a crispy bottom, an explosion of red sauce and cheese, topped off crispy pieces of pepperoni and sausage. I'm obsessed with deep dish pizza. I've seen some discourse on the interweb lately surrounding Chicago Deep Dish pizza, and it's been taking a bit of a beating. Here's what I will say: If I was a Chicago local, deep dish would hold a special place in my heart. I'd have it 2 times a year on the most reverent occasions, where I feel 100% okay with celebrating all the way. If I got a new job I was excited about, I'd call my brother up and tell him we have to hit Pequod's and eat ourselves to death in celebration. If I completed a marathon after months of training, Pequod's would 100% be my post race meal. It's beautiful and delicious gluttony for gluttonies sake. There is no fooling yourself that there is any nutritional value. I only buy shirts from restaurants that blow me away or give me an unforgettable experience, so you know I had to cop a Pequod's T on the way out. JERSEY SWAP! good for what it is but after trying it, i just think maybe i don't love that kind of pizza. i can still recognize that it's incredibly popular (even at 11 at night) and people flock here for a reason. we started off with some wings and stuff while we waited. it does take 45-55 minutes for the pizza to come out, so snacking might be a good idea. we were seated upstairs, which feels less overwhelming on the first floor. reservations easy online. not sure about parking, we took an uber. but i didn't see any obvious place to park nearby if you have a car. overall, good quality, cordial service, and fresh ingredients. read more

Absolutely best pizza ever, the crust on their deep dish is to die for!!! love everything about their pizza!

We visited on a Tuesday afternoon based on a family recommendation, but it was a bit of a letdown. The restaurant itself is very nice--we loved the brick walls and the overall atmosphere. My husband and I both ordered the lunch special personal pan pizza. The special starts at $8.95, but after my husband added a few extra toppings, his pizza jumped to $17.68. That feels very steep for a 'lunch special.' The pizza itself was also far too thick and doughy for our liking. It's a nice restaurant, but we likely won't be returning. read more
