Actually it was a very nice experience. Our waitress was Jamaican and she was such a sweet person. She had to check a couple of times to see if the beers we requested were available. We were able to order various items on the menu including fried fish, fried turkey and fried pork which all were quite good. We even had some acras ( a fried ball of grounded yautia yam). Upon entering this establishment I was greeted by an incredibly warm and friendly staff, who lead my brother and I past their spacious, inviting bar into their large, roomy restaurant with plenty of white-cloth draped tables. Though we came in for lunch and sadly did not get to experience the live music, they have a large "stage" with a full set up for bands and live musicians. Service was attentive, and our food was served pretty promptly. Everything was fried to perfection, the meats were unbelievably tender and incredibly well seasoned, and though there was definitely a spice factor, it was tolerable and rather enjoyable. Went there last night for a live band. This place needs a major makeover. The decor is very out dated and tacky. I cant take this club seriously when tables look run down, flat soda which was served in a already open bottle and christmas lights on the ceiling. If this was a review just for the food alone it would be at least four stars. But because when you go to a restaurant you're expecting great customer service and Ambiance as well as reasonable prices, I have to give them two Stars. So like I said the food is grea. One thing that they definitely definitely have to change is the "salad". They must not know what a salad is because they served me a plate full of lettuce. Iceberg lettuce at that! So basically a plate of nothing since Iceberg has 0 nutritional value. Do not think to come here and be entertained. They have a great space for entertainment like live bands but there never seems to be a live band. There actually was a man (dj?)laying down on a bench playing music. No Lie he was laying down! The bathrooms remind me of a hole in the wall bar. Nothing nice at all. Just literally a place to use it if you must. You can be charging $20 a plate plus 18% gratuity with a bathroom like that. They never seem to have any customers at all. The first time I went here, we were the only people in the whole entire restaurant. Not only that but the hours online said that they will be open until 2 in the morning. But as soon as they were done clearing are plates I can tell that they were getting ready to close. A couple even came in while we were eating and they turned them away saying they were closing soon. Straight up bad business. Be very aware of that gratuity is already included. 18%! Rather than come here to mediocrity you might as well head down to the city and enjoy some Ambiance and good food for the same price. Their drinks are the price you would see normally in Manhattan. It's ridiculous! It's not even like you're getting a large serving. Just a regular drink and they're charging City prices. The food is completely overpriced. I will never ever spend another dime hear when I can go pay half or less than half on Jamaica Avenue at an authentic Haitian restaurant and you get the same amount of food or even more. This place just has no value at all. It feels like they're going out of business and it shows on their faces. They have a lot of room for improvement. They need to get someone in there who is familiar with the restaurant business to save them from drowning. There is no reason why such a nice space should be misused. Friday Saturday and Sunday you should definitely have some sort of entertainment. I'm sure there's so many Haitian bands that would love a chance to play in front of an audience. The Rice & beans & Griot was full of flavor despite them not giving gravy with it for some reason. The hostess was extra helpful with refilling the table with Sangrias/Mimosas. However The waitress seemed overwhelmed a bit. Took forever with the Bill, Took forever to take the Credit Card, Took forever with the food even though that part may not have been her fault. Talk about a surprise gone awry. I reserved this place for a surpise birthday dinner and embarassingly, everyone left shaking their heads. By everyone, I mean all 11 of the guests, this included the birthday guy. Instead of saying happy birthday in merriment, I kept saying I'm sorry all night. The extremely dim lighting in this little Haitian/Creole cafe helps cover its major crappy decor flaws. Knowing that the birthday guy likes Haitian cuisine, I selected this place to host his birthday. Initially, I asked a friend to visit the place and unfortunately, she went at night when the lights were at their dimmest. She reported back that it was quaint and seemed decent enough. Also, its located in a convenient commuting distance for the guests and the birthday guy. Had I known the night would've left me with a sour stomach and dissapointed guests, I would've changed the venue. It all went wrong the minute we walked into the place. The music sucked. The vibe was very old-ish, as in senior citizen old-ish. My friend kept insisting she saw her great granparents in there. The cooks were much too loud as we could hear them complaining in the kitchen. The bar should be referred to as semi open space with bland liquor. We tried ordering wine several times only to be told they didn''t have this or that. They finally decided to go out to get wine. Our question was: Why advertise certain drinks when you don't even have them. The wine delivery took twenty minutes. Not once were we informed of how long anything would take. We were left to sit and wait. Appetizers took 45 minutes. Main course took 21/2 hours. The food was beyond average. The waitstaff was not only literally and figuratively slow, but they were high on ego fuel. Well, with the exception of one young lady who tried to make up for both her boss's and colleagues ineptitude. Unfortunately, I can't raise the star level based on my interaction with her alone considering the overall experience. When we finally tried to wrap up the night, the check out process took another 30 minutes because the credit card machine was broken. I had to leave the birthday guy as ransom while they allowed me to run to the ATM. This place was a surprise indeed. Unacceptably SUBPAR service for the classy image they are trying to convey!!! The food is not worth sitting around that long for. We hated this crappy place and wished we could get back the time we wasted in there. We had kids there and their simple order of buffalo wings didn't get served until 21/2 hours later. There's just not a forgivable explanation. And asking the staff questions only got you an eye rolling smart aleck response. I had to talk to the manager over the phone since there wasn't a supervisor of some sort at the place. The only acceptable response from the manager would've been an apology for creating such a place. I could be considered one irate customer, but when the feeling is mutal with all of the guests, it couldn't be just me. With cheap curtains hanging off crooked plastic rods, this place isn't fit to even be the worst subway station. What the heck was I thinking?! I went to this place with a group of friends because a friend of mine heard about it and want to check out. The location wasn't bad and we figured sense we all live close to Elmont, why not...right? WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! According to the website, the live band was suppose to perform at 7 but we found out by the staff, the performance begins at 11:30pm. I felt that paying $15 for cover charge was too much. Needless to say we left before the band perform. The menus were outdated, and they did not have 25% of what was on the menu. The menu on the website was different than the acutal menu at the place. How the hell are you going to operate a west indian restuarant and dont have ox tails, and most of the "beef" entrees. They had 6 desserts to choose from but the first waitress inform me that they only have 3 dessert items (cheese cake, carrot cake, and black forest). I ordered the cheese but over an hour later, they inform me that they were out of all desserts. The "dessert" menu was handwritten in the menu which look tacky. Some of my friends felt that the fried chicken was bland and dry. I tried the Marinade which turn out to be good except they forgot to stuff a couple of them with cod fish. The salad dressing bottles were dirty and had alot of residue of dressing all over the bottles from previous use. They only had french and italian dressing to choose from. So for the Ranch, Balsamic, Blue Cheese, or Hony Mustard lovers....you are shit out of luck! The drinking glasses were old and dull. The waitress pretty much stated "The only thing I would order from here is the Tassot". Uh ok, so that means the rest of the food is crap? We ordered our food and it took over an hour and half for the waitress to bring it to the table. The so-called owner or manager came to our table to see if we are enjoying ourselves. When I discuss about some of the out of stock foods, his excuse was "Some of the foods are not in season". Are you kidding me, since when is cheese cake has a season? Came here randomly with my family. There was a big party going on so we had to opt for the buffet. No menus were ever given to us and the buffet didn't have a lot of options. I have been here a few times. I like it. All Haitian restaurants take a long time to bring out the food. Lol even in the ones that have the food laid out, take 20 minutes to put it in the Styrofoam box and gand it to you. The appetizers are pricey but all restaurant apps are about 8$. They are cheap with the portions though.. I've been there a lot of times and was satisfied every time. The food is good. The lumbi is always good but one time it was bland and slightly undercooked. That was the only time I was disappointed. The staff is nice and a nice mix of backgrounds. They are Haitian, Jamaica , American etc. The restaurant is dark, too dark. I don't know how people see their food. I also think the seating is tight. I prefer sitting at the bar to eat. Every time I go it's packed. Good food and service, I had my order of ordered Griot with plantains and a salad delivered. The griot was very well seasoned with a classic topping of onions and peppers and the plantains were fresh with a crispy crust outside but soft inside. The portion was so large I could only eat half and didn't get to the salad. I ordered piklese which was prepared a bit different than I'm used to, appeared blended. Only negative was it took a tad bit long for my order to arrive (1hr 10 mins) but once it did it was accurate and piping hot. Went here with a friend to have an authentic Haitian dinner. I myself am Haitian so I've never paid to have a Haitian meal...it's called going to a relative's house. Anyway got there and the layout is a bar in front and then tables towards the back. We were seated in the dining area. We ordered a bottle of Chilean white wine as opposed to just getting glasses. My friend ordered the lambi (conch), while I got the boulettes (fried meatballs). It was something that my mom used to make when I was young, but I have not had in years. The food was okay, everything was served with rice and plantains. It definitely wasn't that good compared to what I grew up with. It was pretty pricey, but for what we got it made sense. The boulettes were dry, but I ordered the sauce on the side so it probably would have been better cooked in the sauce. The biggest scam though was that the bottle of wine was $50 and my friend who is Chilean knows that the real value of the bottle is no more than $4. I'm not surprised though that they overcharged that much though. It was a big bottle and they probably charged for the size, not the quality. A live band played and sang Haitian music. I'm most likely never going back, but I don't regret trying it out. read more

I went this past Friday night where it's all you can eat buffet. My family and I arrived at 6:45pm and the food was not ready until 8:30 and we were told it would be ready in 20 minutes after our arrival. The service was horrible, the server never came around the table to offer us anything or provide any updates. The food was okay and since we were hungry and had waited almost 2 hours, anything was good at that point. They were quick to bring us the bill and the waitress just stood there waiting for immediate payment which was very rude and unprofessional. I gave her a credit card and she brought it back for me sign and just stood there waiting for me add the tip and sign. I won't be going there again. Horrible service. read more

Ordered a meal, drinks and when my meal was bought out my wife was informed they didn't have what she ordered. She ordered something else and waited 45 minutes and still not meal. They hosted my birthday party a few weeks ago. It's one of the only Haitian places in New York to have kibby! (It's great!!) The food is great, too. On Saturday night they a dj who comes in before a band. They're both entertaining and accommodating to the guests. I loved mot of all that they were able to decorate the restaurant to accommodate my party and my guests. It's definitely worth checking out for whatever event you need to host or even if you want to have a nice dinner out! read more

Unfortunately bad attitudes are common among Haitian restaurants, I am Haitian myself and my husband who is also Haitian often complain about the crap attitudes we receive when we go to Haitian restaurants. He's a big foodie and really doesn't mind spending good money exploring different restaurants, it's just awful that we rarely support our own people, not because we can't but because their bad uppity attitude makes us take our business elsewhere. I don't understand how I'm bringing you business but I'm getting an attitude in return. It really is unfortunate that I would prefer to support another restaurant than one of my brother's and sister's all because they don't understand what customer service is. I partly believe it's the mindset that back in Haiti if your serving food your considered a "Bon" . In either case it's bad for business. Unfortunately the experience was probably one of the worst experiences I have had dining at an establishment. I was a little hesitant to travel to Brooklyn to Elmont for Haitian food but there was a Groupon, it was a "new" place, I am Haitian, so I figured why not give it a try. Its always good to have a few "Go To" spots. First, the service was confusing and unorganized. It was difficult to get quick attention for something as simple as water. There was no seating available in their main dining area so we had to sit at the bar to dine, and on top of all of this the manager was very rude to me. I ordered the griot and diriz avec djon djon as it was suggested on Yelp. The meal arrived, I was excited. I started poking around at different pieces and literally out of a plate of 15 pieces, 10 were huge cubes of fat! I'm think no this cant be right (thats definitely a No No to serve a Haitian Griot with 75% fat AND especially for the price they charge! When I asked who I assume was the "manager" why this was so. He proceeded to point with his finger at different pieces on my plate declaring "this is meat, this is meat, etc" as if I were 1. Not Haitian, 2. Ignorant and/or 3. a/his child. How rude! In fact he was wrong! and how could you know by looking at my plate what each piece contained in VERY dim lighting?? I actually cut and poked with my fork into each piece and knew for sure what I was talking about. So I then asked him if this was how they served this meal with majority of the pieces being pork fat at this restaurant. He said yes and walked away. I felt because he knew I was dining with a Groupon that his attention to the issue didn't matter. In any dining establishment if a customer has an issue with their meal I usually expect the manager or server to work to correct any issues. I simply was hoping that he would acknowledge that the meal contained too many pieces of fat, more than usual, and to provide a few more pieces of actual meat to actually present itself as a real meal. I seriously would've been satisfied with 2-3 more because at least the effort was made. But to serve 75% fat and expect me to be OK with that? No way. I was so turned off by the meal and his attitude that I could not even finish my meal. I just wanted to leave right away. He never returned after that to check on us. He seemed more upset from a distance if anything. This is definitely not the experience I thought it would be. I actually buy Groupons as a way to try new places out and hopefully return in the future as a repeat customer WITHOUT a Groupon!
