The Cove Restaurant. 243rd and Merrick Blvd.
    Yvette M.

So I finally found a nice sit down West Indian restaurant in Queens ! If you are from Queens and remember landmarks , this spot is near where the Cross Island Diner used to be . It's on 243rd and Merrick Blvd . Q5 bus goes there as well . The name of the spot is The Cove . It's loud , with a DJ playing your favorite tunes and it was definitely a vibe ! Seating is for 90 minutes ( though we went over and they didn't kick us out ) . Service was great ( though difficult to hear and was screaming to waiters because the music was loud ) . The drinks were good ! I had a Cove Rum Punch . As an appetizer, We shared Codfish Fritters that were good though a bit doughy. We also had Escovitch shrimp that Was amazing . The oxtail Rasta pasta was excellent and the oxtails are on the bones . My bestie had oxtail with rice and peas ( they are made with coconut and coconut milk) We were celebrating a birthday and they sang happy birthday and brought out a slice of cheesecake . The spot has street parking and a cool bar . It's reasonably priced and the big portion mean food to take home . There are several spots to pose for pictures . I didn't know they take them and the price is $20 a photo. You can decline but I actually brought mine . I would definitely go back .

Lets talk about Cove. We went there about 7pm on a Saturday night. It was quite but the ambiance kept us entertained. We turned it into a photoshoot moment. It got busy as the night went by like around 8/9pm. Ok, lets talk about the drinks and food. The snapper in coconut sauce was on point. The seasoning touched my soul. Wait, the appetizers like calamari and cod fish fritters started the night. They were delicious. The drinks were definitely a hit. There's more, I even had the chicken soup which was so tasty. I tried my friend's oxtail and it was well seasoned and tender. Cove Restaurant is definitely a spot to try. Oh yeah, the music had us moving too. Great time indeed.

The restaurant is cute. It is small but the decor is lovely so I was excited to try it out. My friend and I came here for weekend brunch. The drinks were served in a carafe and they were pretty good. I had the ackee and salt fish on fried green plantain appetizer and it was good. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which was also good. My friend had the chicken and waffles. She said it was okay but pretty basic, it didn't wow her. Now let's talk about the service. The service was terrible. It took an hour just to get a drink. My friend and I literally sat and talked with each other for an hour before we were served anything we ordered. That's insane to me, especially because our reservation was early (maybe 30 minutes after opening). The place wasn't crowded. We weren't even notified if something was going on to cause the delay of service. It was like our time wasn't valuable and the delay wasn't addressed. It was like we were just expected to wait. Hopefully they have improved since my visit, but my experience didn't warrant a return visit.

Cove restaurant was vibes from beginning to end. The music was good, the service was good and the food was great. I had a great experience here. I had a rum punch for my drink , this was strong and sweet. Then I had fritters for my appetizer. The fritters were delicious. For my entree I had grilled lobster and rice and beans. Everything I ate was delicious and I have no complaints. My friends ordered mussels , pasta and kreyol shrimp which they stated they enjoyed. If you are looking for a Caribbean restaurant with good food I'd recommend this place .

I haven't visited this popular Caribbean restaurant in years. I am so glad that it is still open and serving great food with an amazing wait staff. I didn't have to wait long for my order and ate at the bar and watch some sports. It was a much needed "appreciating the atmosphere." The food was delicious l, the drink was strong but sweet which I love, & reasonably priced. Will visit again soon

Good local neighborhood spot. Appetizers and cocktails are always great. Good vibes and music.

05/19/23: People..People.. yuh want good food, yuh want nice Viiiiibes..strong drinks and value for your money. Make way to Cove. This has been on my list so when I got the text from my BPIC (belly partner in crime) he wants to play and his truck is involved..Cove was my first choice. Upon entering we were seated almost immediately. It's not very large but the design and esthetics has it feeling larger than it is and tables are spaced such as you are not cramped among your fellow patrons. The floral decor from the entrance to the inside definitely gives it IG worthy pics. I love the cushioned dining chairs. I will say it took a minute for a server, we had to flag someone down to place our orders. But once we got our waitstaff it was all up steam from there. She was friendly and engaging and I loved how patient and attentive she was to my friends mother. Drinks: Cove Rum Punch.. mek I tell you Wray n his Nephew showed up and showed out in that drink! One thing he beat rum punch I had in a while. Appetizers: Cove Shrimp: The accuracy of their description: right blend of escovitch and sweet and sour sauce. Can you deliciousness. . The attack on my tastebuds, I surrender. Steamed Mussels in their special sauce. The creamy sauce just the right thickness, the seasoning they all blended perfectly. Cod Fish Fritters; bit doughy, need more salt fish but other wise good. However, mix it with some of the sauce from the cove shrimp or the mussel sauce.. yes a little moan may escape your lips. Main Cove Rasta Pasta with oxtail. Penne pasta in light creamy sauce well seasoned and not to mention very hot and in heat. Oxtail also well seasoned and tasty. It didn't fall off the bone as I've had in other places but it was still yummy. Curried Shrimp: When this dish arrived we looked at each like ummm why is it red and not the yellow color of curry we are used to. But once you bit into the shrimp it definitely was curry and flavorful. Psssst...we received a side order of Plantain.. wait for for it... FOR FREE. As I'm writing I just realized I didn't take a pic. Folks they were plumped, sweet, not overly greasy and done just right. Side note: while having drinks and waiting in food I asked one of the staff when is the reggae music segment.. I mean you are in a Caribbean restaurant I need my tunes. Sure enough few minutes later the RnB was replaced with reggae not saying it's because of me but hey.. ask you shall received! I guess because I was constantly singing and chair dancing various staff members stopped and asked am I enjoying the music. Ole school dancehall what's not to love. Lastly we had cheesecake with strawberry jam. It wasn't the best I've had but it was decent and enjoyable. Cove is definitely a place for a more upscale carribean dining, date night, celebration as I saw all of these elements during my dining experience. From the large portion size of the meals, strong drinks, pleasant staff and viiiibes. Cove definitely checks the win column! Note: gratuity is auto added and CC fee.

    Mussels in cream sauce 10/10

A group of 8 of us headed here for an early dinner on Saturday. We had reservations for 6 but arrived at 5:30pm and was seated immediately. We were offered the option of indoor or outdoor but it was wayy too hot for outdoor so we had to pass even though some of our party wanted to do hookah, which they only offer outdoor. Stephan P was our waiter. He had good customer service and was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. The food pretty much matched the price and portion. Everyone pretty much ordered the rum punch while I ordered the tropical margarita. They all said the rum punch was good and strong and ordered seconds. The tropical margarita was okay, flavor was good but that's it. We ordered a variety of appetizers: mango habanero and jerk wings, codfish fritters, cove shrimp, mussels, and crab cake. The wings were very underwhelming! Like the inside of the wings had ZERO flavor, just the sauce coated on the outside. The mussels were SOO good, just wish it was more, the codfish fritters were good and big portion, and the crab cakes were good. For entrees: we had curry goat with white rice and steamed veggies, grilled lobster tails (MP $45) with a side of rasta pasta, curry goat and roti, steamed snapper, oxtail with rice and peas, curry shrimp, and oxtail with Rasta pasta. The only complaint I heard about the food was that the Rasta pasta was just spicy with no flavor. I would go back and also recommend here.

I'm not sure why this place doesn't have 5 stars. Cove was previously known as Island Taste. Still has the same owner and the same chef. But, they got a face lift. Island taste was cool before, but Cove is beautiful and sleek. Definitely picturesque! They no longer have the nightclub hrs I came on a Thursday night after work. I missed happy hour (Monday- Friday 4pm to 7pm). But, was informed that it was seafood night. They had specials on dishes containing crab leg clusters, lobster, mussels, etc. (every Thursday). Rum punch: perfect mix. Our bartender who's name I can't recall was so funny and personable. She's great and made recommendations. Tried the jerk shrimp which were large, juicy, and flavorful. Would've loved a nice little pan sear, but was still good snapper coconut sauce was large and amazing. I normally have escovitch snapper and wanted to try this. Perfect recommendation from the bartender. My friend had the oxtail= 8 out of 10 rating. It was good but not the best. Finished up with a blowjob shot which I failed at drinking lol Overall, I'd come again. Need to try brunch and come many times for dinner and happy hour. I miss island tastes after hours. But, social corner is open late (on the same street down the block) and has the same owner. They are opened later and also have hookah for those who are interested.

The decor is great for pictures if you're celebrating a birthday or another special occasion. There is also a bar and a place in the back for larger parties. Keep in mind, the music was loud and the lighting is very low. For drinks, we had the lychee martini Moscato. The drinks were pretty decent and the menu had a good selection overall. Our waiter was nice but seemed to have a lot of tables so the appetizers we ordered never came and service was slow. For food, we ordered the grilled salmon with a butter topping, pasta and fish. The food was properly portioned and the plantains on the side were nice and sweet. They even brought out a cake for my mom's birthday. Overall, I would write this experience an 8 out of 10.

Went to Cove to celebrate a birthday. We got there a little late, and they wouldn't sit the group until the full party arrived, so they ended up giving the table away. We had to wait a hour 1/2 to be seated. The space is small and they were busy. The food and drinks were good. I had rum punch which was strong but sweet. The food was good. We each had a different appetizer and each was really good. As the main dish I had the grilled chicken Rasta pasta, which was also tasty.

Interior is really beautiful Bathroom is nice especially the mirror lol!!! I came for a Joe Show comedy Wednesday and it was fun and funny I had an amazing time.... The bartender got to give her props she is amazing fast and she really made this drink slap. I had the rum punch like 2 of them it had real Wray and nephew in it!!!!! I order the chicken Cesar salad and it was good it took 45 mins though but the bartender assured me it's because they had alot of orders... My friend got the mango wings and said it was fried well done and tasted good.....

**A MUST VISIT RESTAURANT IN LITTLE GUYANA** **DELICIOUS…read moreFOOD & BAKERY ITEMS** A SPECIAL PART OF QUEENS Spanning about thirty blocks around Liberty Ave in Richmond Hill, is a very interesting neighborhood known as Little Guyana. An area where one of the largest populations of Guyanese immigrants reside in New York, along with others hailing from Trinidad, Jamaica, India, and Asia. As such, it's a bustling Indo-Caribbean mixing pot neighborhood, with - in some areas - a times square vibe. And most importantly, home to multiple restaurants, Carribean bakeries, clothing shops, grocery stores, and even Guyanese style Chinese food restaurants (Yes, that really is a thing!) EXPERIENCE LITTLE GUYANA AT SYBIL'S A fantastic way to start off your exploration of Little Guyana is to visit Sybil's Bakery. Here, Sybil, an expat from Guyana, along with her relatives and children, have been serving Guyanese specialties to the Richmond Hill community for almost 50 years. Offering steam tables filled with fantastic food, Bakery items, and authentic drinks. THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT Ask someone from Guyana, and they'll tell you that Sybil's is a top spot to visit in the neighborhood. Because of this, the restaurant can sometimes become very crowded, with a line spilling out the door, and down the sidewalk. So it's best not to visit during peak times if possible. And as it's a small restaurant with no tables, you must enter, grab a ticket from the dispenser, and then wait for your number to be called. And while waiting, it's a great time to check the various offerings in the steam table area, take a peak at all the bakery items and patties, and peruse the large menu above the counter. And to be honest, because of the large number of choices here, you really need to do this, so you'll have somewhat of an idea what to order when you're called. YOU HAVE TO TRY... Just about everything is delicious here, so all the standard Caribbean dishes, such as Jerk Chicken, Stewed Chicken, Fried Chicken, Oxtail, Curries and sides are all great choices. And then another wonderful item to try here, is Guyanese Pepper Pot, a traditional meat stew with a dark spiced gravy. And don't forget to order a tasty Roti to eat along with any saucy dishes you order. In addition, the fantastic Guyana Style Chinese items, such as the Chow Mein (fried noodles) and Fried Rice - which are my favorite- are seasoned exceptionally well with Caribbean spices, making these dishes hit differently, in comparison to other restaurants. Of course there are regular Jamaican style Beef Patties and Chicken Patties being served here, which are very tasty. But the Guyana style Patties, which are round, and packed full with either beef or chicken, & veg are scrumptious and unique. With these, the crust is more similar to that of a chicken pot pie, and the generous filling is fantastic. Meanwhile, because these are so friggin good, you will see people order them here by the dozen, to take home. So don't pass these up. Another popular choice, especially during lunch, are Sybil's famous Fish Sandwiches and Jerk Chicken Sandwiches. These start out with either fried fish or jerk chicken, along with lettuce, tomato, tartar sauce, another slightly sweet special sauce, and then some hot sauce, on a wonderful, mildly sweet and soft Coco Bread. Sybil's makes these sandwiches here, non-stop all day long, and there's a deliciously good reason why! BUT SYBIL'S IS A BAKERY ALSO! A trip to Sybil's for most people usually entails purchasing food, and then also Guyanese style baked goods. Some items of note, are the fresh Tennis Rolls, a dense, slightly sweet roll famous for being eaten with a nice slab of cheese in between, creating the best cheese sandwich ever. And if you enjoy cheese, the Cheese Roll pastry, the Cheese Pie tart and the Cheese Scone are also wonderful. And some examples of the sweeter style baked goods here, are the famous Guyana Pineapple Tarts and Guava Tarts which are a must try. Along with the Carrot Cake, Cassava Cake, Cherry buns, Coconut Drops, Chinese Cakes, Currant Rolls, and Solara, just to name a few. I LOVE THIS PLACE All in all, Sybil's is not a perfect restaurant. There are no tables to eat-in, it's usually crowded, and the ordering process can feel a bit rushed and intimidating your first time here. Moreover, if your looking for the best Trinidad style Doubles and Roti, then - without a doubt - Trinciti, Trini Delight and Singh's Roti Shop are better destinations. (Look for my previous review of Singh's Roti Shop if you have a chance). But let me tell you, if I am anywhere near Little Guyana, and I'm hungry, It's a good chance that I'm stopping at Sybil's for some of my favorite food and some magical baked items to take home. Because I really love this place, and if you get to know this unique restaurant like I do, I bet you may fall in love also.

It's a fairly large restaurant. We ordered cocktails, few tapas and the steak. I would've ordered another entree but they were out of dish after dish that I would've tried.. well it turned out to be enough food since the omelette dish was so dense and I filled up on bread. The best dish was the shrimp with garlic tapa which I usually wouldn't bother ordering but I've already tried most of the menu. Lots of garlic. Really tasty ..dipped the oil with the bread. We were sitting there for a while, waiting for our drinks and other food but nothing came out so I wanted more bread since I was starving. My first meal that day. One the guys brought more bread for us quickly. The steak and omelette finally came. I would never order the omelette dish but L wanted to try it and it was tapas Tuesday so there was a slight discount. Very bland. Not enough egg, too much potato, very dry so we spooned a lil of the garlic oil from the shrimp dish and it helped a lot. I had a lil but L ate the rest. Salad was good but it was overdressed. The steak was a lil bit bloody in the middle even though we ordered it medium so it wasn't as good as we had it before. We still didn't get our cocktails because the bartender lady kept making margaritas which were only $5 that day instead of our $17 drinks. Someone came past 7:30pm and our waitress said he was gonna make our drinks. The drinks were pretty good but we already finished our food. Usually I would have ordered one of each cocktail at Sala but I was full and had other places to go. The slow service and the unavailability of certain dishes has impacted my recommendation to others but I still like the drinks here and we did enjoy the gambas tapa dish a lot..
