As far as salad-centric lunch places go this is pretty solid. I mean, it's no California Chicken Cafe but not many places are IMHO. So I usually get the mixt cobb but have tried their Disco (roasted chicken), turkey sandwiches and the vegetarian Be Wello (I'm not vegetarian but sometimes I like to experiment). Their other main thing is that you can build your own salad from like the 100 ingredients they have laid out before them. So, imagine a wall of various lettuce bases (butter, romaine, mixed, etc) behind them and a ton of added proteins in containers before them. You can start mixing and matching from here but it can get kind of pricey after just a few ala carte options. All excellent, all delicious. Just kinda wish it was a little more... Cali Chix Cafe-ish. I like this healthy little joint right here! This is the tastiest option if you're looking to eat healthy. Came with a friend and shared a salad. We got the Park salad with light dressing. Huge portions and so yummy!! I love that it came with a couple pieces of wheat toast (complex carbs are always nice compliment to fresh leafy greens). My friend and I were able to share a salad. Prices are worth it for the large portion, esp. compared to the other restaurants in the area. Nice clean, cool environment and friendly staff. The only thing that might be an issue is parking in Mid-Wilshire area of course. There's a paid lot I think they might validate and street parking. Incredible salad spot right next to La Brea tar pits, hint hint. The choices were amazing but I went with The Bachelor. You can also design you're own. I love these guys. I've actually been to the 2 in LA + one in SF and always, always have a great dining experience. Whether I want something totally healthy that I don't even have to think about (pre-set and seasonal options), or something I customize (unique salad toppings or grain bowls), OR go a little more toward savory (sandwiches, cookies, meats, veggies) - they have it all and do it right. The Chipotle of Salads is a good description of this place. The line was CRAZY long, which almost made us walk away, but it looked like some of the people in line were regulars, and I figured... if they keep coming, it must be worth the wait. It is worth the wait, however, the length of the line is deceiving. They get through that line way faster than Chipotle. It really didn't take that long. So, don't turn away if the line is long. Just get in line. You won't regret it. Let me tell you all the things I loved about this place: - The ingredients looked and tasted sincerely fresh. Delicious. - They are truly eco-friendly. It's not just a claim. They serve in real bowls if you are dining in. They have appropriate bins for sorting waste to compost, recycling, etc. Such a simple thing, but appreciated. - Few people actually eat there, so there was plenty of seating. - They actually ask how much dressing you want on it instead of assuming. Nice touch. - Salad was HUGE which made it very filling. This is how I should eat every day. Now for the reasons it lost a star.... - I have two small kids who I brought with me. They eat salad, but when I saw the size of the salads, I realized that was WAY too much food for them, even if they shared one. Besides that, they have different tastes so sharing isn't really an option for them. If they would offer a "kids" size, at least for dine in only with a child present, it would make a difference. I ended up getting them food next door at Baja Fresh so I could get the right portion. - For the price, I kind of think that the salad should include more than 5 staples. I would have liked to get like 7 or 8 staples, but I didn't want to pay a full dollar extra to add a couple of spoonfulls of another veggies. Plus, I kind of think that not all staples are equal in price. A serving of tomatoes is a staple, but a sprinkling of croutons really shouldn't be a full "staple." Perhaps they could switch to a "weigh your salad" option, kind of like some yogurt places do. - Having a separate line to pay was a little irritating. Burrito places and take out Chinese places manage to pass your food on a tray down the line. That would be better. I was holding two big giant bowls of salad (for myself and my husband) and had to get back in line holding them to pay. That's irritating. Unfortunately, I must write this review as a comment on the SERVICE. Needless to say, the salads and the selection is wonderful, however I left feeling cheated and taken advantage of. I walked in and made it very clear it was my first time. I glanced over the menu and asked the employees on their opinion of what was good to try out for vegetarians. One of the employees suggested I try the create your own salad. He told me I could put whatever I wanted. This sounded great to me! As he filled the salad with my selections, I came upon the tofu and asked for a helping of tofu. He then put the tofu in my salad and THEN said to me, "That's gonna be $2 extra, is that OK with you?". I'm sorry, but what am I supposed to say after he had ALREADY put in the tofu. As a new customer, I would have liked to be told the guidelines or at least told ahead of time that it would cost extra. He asked me in a way that made it clear I had no choice because I had already made a selection, and that I had already made my decision. He then moved on and asked if I wanted beans and I thought "why not" so I said yes and he put the beans in my salad and THEN said, "That's gonna be $1 extra, is that OK with you?". Again, I was extremely disappointed and felt like I was taken advantage of. Being new, i did not understand the extra charge. From there, I asked what the extra charge was for and he finally told me it was because I was over the 5 ingredient limit for the set price. For someone completely new and wanting to try a healthy place just down the street, I was disappointed by the service. I would have liked to be given general pricing guidelines ahead of time, or even told I would be charged for extra ingredients BEFORE they were added to my salad. I'm so glad I tried this place! I went to grab a salad at around 12:30 so of course a line had formed but it moved really quickly. I had no issues with the wait, the guy who made my salad was really nice and I was in and out in no time. Yes the prices are steep but it balances out after you see how much food they give you. It was a LOT! I am so full right now after finishing that huge box of salad, but it was so good that I didn't want to leave any behind. I ordered the Be Well salad which was mixed greens with onion, chickpeas, edamame, lentils and avocado among other things. It also came with a jalapeno vinaigrette which I was a bit worried about but it was yummy. When you go to order you get your own personal guy making your salad right in front of you. The salads and ingredients are pretty good but some of the workers there.. just dont want to work there and they don't really listen to you. You ask for one type of lettuce and they ignore you.. RIGHT AFTER you just told them what you would like. I really hate giving it 3 stars as it's luck of the draw to who you get to serve you. Cashier is always great, the manager is nice too. Occasionally you get bugs in your food. but its' really organic and they don't use pesticides as it shows. Wonderful place for a salad or grain bowl. They have lots of options. The ingredients you can add are all super fresh. It is a little pricey but you get a lot for the price and it's very healthy. You leave feeling full but not heavy or gross. I love the sombrero grain bowl and you add some egg to it. You get all your nutrients and more! I've come here twice now. Both occasions I loved the meal. The salads I had was the orchard and the park. Coming right in the door, it is one of those places that is "order here" on one side, and "pay here" on the other. Think big sub sandwich chain, or that one Mexican burrito places. There was a line (good sign), and it moved fairly quickly. You get to the counter and the salad-maker guys and gals get to work. It's kinda fun watching the action behind the line with greens being tossed, shouts for this ingredient or that bowl, and the like. Or maybe I am just very easily entertained these days. You get your bowl, but then you have to get in to a separate line to wait and then pay. ?? Really I wonder why this is, seems odd. Oh, if you don't have time to wait, they have pre-packaged salads available. I haven't tried those yet. So! On to the food. The greens were toothsome and vibrant. The subtle bitterness goes great with the "very light" mustard vinaigrette. Not overdressed at all. The chicken was juicy, warm, and delightful to eat. "The Colonel" should take some chicken cookery lessons from these green-mongers. All of the other accents, cheese, bacon, Brussels sprouts, etc all were well portioned and really take the salad from "the usual grocery store salad bar" and elevate it to something light, but packed with quite a savory flavor punch. I could easily eat two to become really full-i-fied, but one salad does satiate well enough. They are a bit pricey, about the same as the deli salad bar at your favorite "whole" grocery store, but the quality of the food and convenience of getting it so fast is justifiable. They seem to be a lunch place only, catering to the office crowd and hungry, healthy touristy people who manage to dodge the burrito trucks and junk food places. But they do close pretty early. I will return when I am in the neighborhood. I give this place a solid 4 stars! read more

I work across the street from this place and I decided to try it because my co-workers wanted to go. I got the parker and it was good, but was it worth $15? Probably not. I cannot justify paying for a salad that costs so much even though it was a large portion. It is definitely a pretty place to eat a salad at, but the way they handle tossing the salad seems like there is an accumulation of waste since the salad gets tossed everywhere. Also, they have the bases of the salads against the wall. Because it is an open space, I saw things flying around it and didn't like seeing that. So. This branch of Mixt opened on March 2nd in the former home of Organic To Go. This is a MAJOR improvement to the lunching options in Miracle Mile. They do salads. Any kind pf salad creation you can imagine- from types of lettuce, grilled steak, chicken, ahi tuna, etc., to toppings, house-made yummilicious dressings, galore- and all for between $7 &$11 each. These portions are generous (this is easily a 2 meal salad), the produce is impossibly fresh, the restaurant decor is very eco-friendly minimalist, and the staff is chatty & kind. The salads? AMAZING. Yes, a salad can be amazing. Try the "SIAM" and never wanna go next door for Pizza & beer again. I want to love this place, I really do. It's one of the few restaurants in my neighborhood within walking distance that I can go to when I want a healthier meal. I've tried almost all of their salads and most of their sandwiches, and I haven't been dissatisfied with any. In fact they're all quite good. I think the problem is, I have yet to find something on their menu that I love. It's important for me to discover the Usual when it comes to local spots, and I thought the Maui could be The One (It's the only item on their menu that I ordered twice). But the guy who made it the second time didn't have quite as heavy a hand with the dressing as the usual guy*. I also couldn't get over the meager slices of ahi tuna. *Their light, medium, and heavy options for the dressing vary depending on who's making the salad. Next time I might request the "say when!" option. With all that said, I give their food 3 stars. And sometimes I just miss that EZ self serve salad bar when the space used to be Organic-To-Go. But I'm going to give them an extra star for: 1. Excellent customer service 2. Offering longer hours upon the request of local patrons 3. Giving away free cookies in the evening 4. I stumbled upon this joint as I was running scared from the numerous overwhelming food truck options near Museum Row and felt at ease as soon as I walked in. Mostly cause I was the only one there. But they're brand new, so don't read that negatively. I got to mix and match my own vegan salad, a la Subway restaurant style, and I paid a fair amount for the size and weight of the salad. Everything tastes fresh, they have plenty of veg and vegan option and the workers care to know the ingredients to check vegan-issity. I first came across Mixt Green looking for coffee in the area and boy am I glad to have found this place. Their cobb salad is consistent here. My husband normally get their sandwich which is very good too! The stretch of stores share a parking lot in the back. What I got/get: Mixt Cobb Orchard (Seasonal) The good news: I've never seen someone create a salad from fresh ingredients so quickly in my life. It's pretty impressive to be honest! I love how all of the ingredients are visible and you can tell they're all very fresh, and they do a good job of proportioning them without skimping on things like avocado! The Orchard is definitely my favorite, and it's not too heavy. You can decide if you want your dressing light, medium, or heavy and you can also sub out and add one ingredient for free. This place is right across from my work, so it's a good option if you work on Miracle Mile and are craving something healthy! However, I do want to come back and try the sandwiches because they look good too. The bad news: Yes, it's definitely overpriced for what it is, but to be fair, you get a decent amount of food, and c'mon by the looks of this place you should expect prices in that range ($10-12 for a salad). The lines can get super long, and after you wait in the salad line you have to wait in the cashier line, but again, the line goes by pretty fast due to the employees making the salads at light speed. read more

But when you feel like having a tasty and healthy meal, and can afford it, why not? I've been here a couple of times for lunch, since it's close to my office. Both times I've created my own salad. ((I was one of those annoyingly picky children that barely eat anything... although that has vastly improved, I will still make icky faces at most vegetables)) It's great that I can pick exactly what I want on my salad, my perfect creation: -Mixt greens, sundried tomatoes, roasted potatoes, feta cheese and chicken.
