They have been trying to get me to come to this place for a while now, but I'm pretty loyal to my key Asian places. The following are out of 5 Points. * (5) Customer Service - Meaning how well they assisted me in my needs. I called in the reservation for Mizu Sushi the night before with the goal of eleven people, but a few got sick or emergencies came up so we walked in with the eight of us to see Jean putting our table together. I've never seen such a waitress with a skill to memorize the tables order, person by person... until now; even with a few of us changing our mind with our dessert picks. * (5) Decor - The atmosphere of the place. It's small, it's cute and it has all the seasons. The décor streams from each season. There is a magnificent sushi bar. * (5) Food & Drink - How well the food tastes, their selection of drinks This location does not serve alcohol, but allows bring your own. I do generally enjoy sake with my sushi, but that didn't change the course of the meal at all. I went with a Japanese soda, melon flavor. For entrée I went with gyoza which looked made in house and some al la carte sushi which most places don't serve such as tamago and inari. Tamago is egg omelet and inari is bean curd made into a pocket, filled with rice; very delicious. My entrée was sushi and sashimi deluxe. It was served to me beautifully and very delicious. Dessert at a Japanese restaurant in America would not be complete without tempura ice cream and Mizu Sushi has a flavor I hardly see anymore - Ginger. * (5) Price - Here I am not grading my cost, but by the quality of the food I get for the money I spent. (Example: I pay $5 for a hamburger that I could make myself.) The quality of food was outstanding. * (4) Presentation - How things are presented. Food, Drink, Staff, etc. There were no uniforms, just the simple black. I would hope they get some type of logos on their shirts. The food was presented excellently. As many times states before, "we eat with our eyes first" - my eyes were pigs. ;) Overall Score: 24/25 read more

Had a great lunch here. Very large portions and reasonably priced. Sashimi was so fresh it melted in your mouth. Would come back again.

One of the best Sushi places I have been.I eat out a lot and try various restaurants.I have tried many sushi places all over US even in NYC ,NJ and Chicago but MiZu in Schenectady is one of the best places for Sushi. Right.. went to this place last night because everyone I know was raving bout this place. Got to this place around 9pm, seeing that it closes at 11pm. Was dead empty, understanding its 9pm on a Thursday. But still wasnt allowed to be seated, the owner kicked my wife and I out of the place saying they were closed. I mean hey! Wtf man, your store says it closes at 11pm, I still got 2hours. And if this was a well establishment then close at 11pm.. We were really looking forward to it. This small family-owned restaurant has the nicest staff you could ever ask for and they quickly remember their customers. We love their miso soup and avocado rolls and the lobster roll is the best I've ever had! If I could give them 4.5 stars I would. Atmosphere is what is lacking here as they usually have a TV turned on by the sushi bar, which is not my preference. Highly recommend food and service. I have gone here on several occasions. As other people have said, it truly is a hidden gem. I've never had a bad experience. The staff actually remembers you, and are always courteous. They now serve beer and sake which just makes me like this place even more. I recommend the Y2K Roll. To give you an idea of their prices a Y2K Roll, Ninja Roll, Chicken Tempura Roll, Vegetable Roll, and a Sam Adams cost me $30 bucks, which is amazing compared to other Sushi places in the area. This is our favorite sushi restaurant -- to the point where we call them, and the owner recognizes our phone number. :) And all we have to do is ask for the usual! (2 Ninja Rolls, 2 Eel Avocado Rolls.) We also go once a year with all my husband's family (8 people) and they scoot tables together and it works just fine. (The place IS small, though, so if you have a large group make sure you call ahead.) I almost never leave reviews, but I really really really want this place to stay in business forever. Best Japanese food in region, bar none. Fish, scallops, and lobster are always freshly sourced, and I'd take their surf and turf teriyaki over any steakhouse any day. Mizu's sushi is always well prepared and nicely presented, and they provide excellent service both in-restaurant and through delivery. This has to be Schenectady's best kept secret! The food is excellent, prices reasonable, service fantastic! My boyfriend and I go almost weekly and won't go anywhere else for sushi. The Spicy Girl roll in the Chef's Specials is one of our favorites! And if you don't like sushi, they have a wide selection of cooked items that are equally good... I LOVE the noodle dishes. My husband and I ordered a large take out order very close to closing. The owner was very polite and made most of our order right in front so you could watch it being made with all fresh ingredients. He didn't seem bothered by the late order or that he had to take out a lot of the ingredients from the cooler- they were packed up for the night. They weren't skimpy on the seafood either. They even provided an extra order of Miso soup and threw in some free spring rolls! We were extremely pleased with the quality and quantity of the food. The prices are very reasonable for what you get (cheaper than the stuff that sits in the cooler of the grocery store across the street) They have very good specials too- call or check their website as they aren't mentioned in the menu. For example: on weekends, order a chef special roll (loved the baby lobster tempura roll) and get any other roll FREE. We ordered a dinner special of 3 rolls or hand rolls for $12. We also ordered some Gyoza or Japanese dumplings- delicious. I ate as much food as I would have eaten at a well known local all you can eat sushi place and spent about 2/3 of the $. I would highly recommend Mizu Sushi. I look forward to trying to eat in the restaurante next time, maybe try some hibachi. read more

Mizu is my go-to when I am craving sushi. It is a little hole in the wall, which could be easily missed driving through the tiny plaza, but whenever I go, business is always booming. The sushi is delicious. The fried rice has cashews and raisins in it, which at first sounded odd to me but somehow it works! I have sat down at the restaurant, ordered takeout, and had food delivered. All have been pleasurable experiences. Customer service is always top notch. The staff know their customers. I am always greeted by name. Our server even asked me how my brother was doing because she hasn't seen him in a while. When I told her he moved to Albany, she said that he always used to order sesame chicken and chicken teriyaki dinners (which he verified was his usual order). Impressive! This cozy establishment is definitely a hidden gem in Schenectady. Although the food is great, the customer service is the unique factor that keeps me coming back. read more

I've been a regular at Mizu Sushi since early 2017, and have continually been blown away by their impeccable service and quality food. To start, their Miso soup is perfectly textured, and the presentation is elegant--but not too serious. The decor is casual, the staff is extremely polite and friendly, and on top of everything, the sashimi and sushi is the freshest I've had in this area. I highly recommend it if you're curious--the location is unassuming, but don't let the nail salon and smoke shop next door scare you away. read more

I love Mizu sushi. There are some really good sushi places in the area but this place is the best. Always really good and the service is without a doubt the nicest people I have ever been waited on. They never stop surprising me. I ordered 6 rolls tonight for my family, which as you know if you have a family is average and they tossed in free fried spring rolls! So nice! When one orders a sushi deluxe or regular dinner rather than a la carte, one takes a small risk. Will the chef get rid of old stuff? Will I get the cheap stuff? Not here. Look, you're not at the Tsukiji Fish market. It's Schenectady, and it's very good sushi with sizable portions at very fair prices. So they don't make the greatest seaweed salad I've ever had. I can live with that. I add a few hot pepper flakes or sriracha of my very own, and call it a very good meal. Oh, and the staff are incredibly nice. read more

Our party of 4 dined here last night. So glad we had a reservation as all the tables were full.they now do have a liquor license, so wine, beer and saki were available. Although the location is at the end of a strip mall, inside it is charming. Our service was excellent, and we all found our sushi to be delicious and reasonably priced. We will return. read more

Been going here only a little while but you would have thought we were old friends of the owner. Amuse-bouche was delicious and very tasteful. Cut to food arrival, excellent presentation and incredibly fast service. Price is excellent for the quality of food. This place is amazing. The owners were going out of their way to make our experience memorable. We went here for Valentine's Day and they sent us away with a box of chocolates. Such an excellent find!!!! At first i was skeptical because it was small and in a plaza with a few other businesses...but i was totally blown away by the freshness and excellent flavors of the sushi. I think maybe its mostly for take out, but there is about 4-5 tables and a sushi bar.....we'll defiantly go back for more...i'm hoping this weekend!!! Oh and they gave us an orange after our meal sliced and served in the rind...which was super cute and a totally unique treat! I recommend giving this place a try. : ) read more

I've never written a review for a restaurant but I signed up just so I could put in a good word for this place. Mizu is awesome, I order from them almost weekly and I never get tired of it. Amazing service, the woman there always remembers my name and what I like to order and since I'm vegan, they always make any substitutions I ask for. Yes it's a small, unremarkable "hole in the wall" location but who cares, it's very clean, reasonably-priced, with fantastic food and such warm service. Great little place. read more
