I was surprisingly pleased with my early weekday (sushi) lunch in this stand-alone restaurant, with an unassuming and barely distinctive exterior. As the attentive server escorted me to the 7-seat sushi bar (photo) - I found the interior was also minimally decorated, but good news! the giant TV was only visible from a private side area. I was presented a menu without photos, of which I always approve, but on the other hand, waribashi and paper napkins are their standard for lunch. Although the sushi selections were not that extensive, I was able to order a couple of rolls and a few nigiri, as usual, following a satisfying soup. The plating of the main was simple and unadorned, (photo) but competent, with excellent wasabi. I won't say freshly ground today, because I didn't watch the personable chef grind it right in front of me. But very good, and extremely spicy. The nigiri was good, with the sweetened tamago clearly rolled, not "egg cake"/frittata and the ikura and hamachi both very fresh. Also, individual nigiri had a small dab of wasabi under the fish, a step often omitted by chefs here in the Capital Region. The only mistake on the plate was the unagi - charred carbon black edges during reheating, and unfortunately, the chef still served them. Both maki were much smaller than I normally expect, but very well done. The spicy hamachi was surprisingly very spicy, and the pleasant unagi cucumber satisfied. Overall, I was happy with my lunch, and I will most definitely return soon. 2019 06 28. S 16.

This is literally the worst food i've ever had and it smells and feels disgusting and not fresh or even real at all. The tuna is spongey and the yellowtail smells foul. If McDonald's had a sushi menu this would be the McSushi meal.

They're very friendly here, and the complimentary mini spring rolls at the start of your meal, and the orange slices at the end were both nice touches. Everything we ordered was delicious and came out quickly. We had a combination of regular and specialty rolls, plus appetizers. But folks at the tables around us had other equally-delicious-looking entrees. And if you're coming here during busy hours, the "batcave" entrance, i.e, off Albany St., is a time-saver. Just be sure you plan ahead, because with only 7 tables and a lot of take-out orders, it can probably get busy.

The lady who's usually at the front of house is always friendly, pleasant, and efficient, but what's even more impressive is the food. With the acknowledgement that not everything on the menu is tops, I know that they can certainly deep fry and stir fry, their complimentary hot spring rolls are always piping hot and delicious, and the stir fry noodles are always beckoning me. The dining room is cozy but comfy and homey, and although they seem to get a majority of orders for pickup, we've always enjoyed dining in. I hope they keep improving and stay open for many more years.

Takoyaki, coconut buns, popcorn chicken, avocado eel sushi and mochi. Sadly mochi by the time I got to it was slightly melted but thats okay I still ate them it was my fault for being obsessed with the coconut buns I reaally liked those. Also really liked the fact the Bubble tea was customizable, I had been craving a good tea I hadn't had accessibility to for sometime. Pricey... eh probably not I ordered alot, surprised it came in a pretty nice bag, got here in good time. Would I order again? Oh I think there are quite a few items I'd like to get again.

I was so excited to try this place! But my experience unfortunately was so sad! Let's start with…read morethe positives. It was clean and cute inside. The duck wrapped in scallion pancakes was the best thing we ordered! Delicious! The second best thing was the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, also very tasty. The edamame were edamame. The spicy dumplings were alright, the filling didn't really have enough flavor to be discernible above the chili oil coating the outside. They were tossed with fresh cucumber which was really nice. Okay, here's the tea on the bad stuff. It was really slow for a weekend night. The service was all over the place. They seem to just all work the room but there is no assigned server to your table so they have no idea what is going on. We were all served waters with our other drinks, but unfortunately one of the water glasses was broken. We gave it back to one of the servers who apologized but never came back with a new glass of water, or the additional drink someone else from our party asked for. Another server couldn't speak English which caused many other issues. We were approached several times to order food from different servers. They tried to take our menus away after ordering appetizers. Many more shenanigans ensued, it was honestly a mess. I ordered the biang biang noodles. I had to ask both servers the same questions about my meal because nobody was talking to each other and I got two completely different answers. I decided to accept the risk and order this dish anyway. I wish I hadn't, it was legitimately awful. The small slices of beef were stone cold and were inedible. There was no meat at all, it was just grizzle. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. It was like trying to chew on rubber. Awful! I pushed all the meat to the side of my dish and tried to eat around it. One of the servers asked me if I wanted a box. I told her that the meat was disgusting and just to pack the few noodles I had left on the plate. She just said "oh sorry." The ramen dish had 2 of the thinest slices of pork loin that I have ever seen! They might as well have been cold cuts. And both of those were mostly fat. They were roasted and served untrimmed. And thats all the meat that came in the Tonkotsu ramen dish, besides the 2 slices of fish cakes. What are we on rations guys?? They are very stingy with the protein here. When a place starts cutting food quality and has no self awareness of service quality you know a restaurant is struggling financially or you have an absentee owner situation. I tried to pay a portion of our meal with a gift card and the server couldn't figure out how to do that so she said that they do not accept gift cards. I paid the bill with my credit card and headed for the door. As we were walking out the door, she ran up to me and said "oh we accept gift card, my manager show me how. You can pay gift card when you come again!" I said okay and walked out the door laughing. Don't worry! We will never be back again!

Also I hadn't eaten lunch so decided to make lemonade out of lemons, or dashi out of stinky fish for a better analogy, and have me a bowl of ramen. The tonkatsu ramen, my standard order, had excellent porky, fatty broth. Five stars. I need egg in my ramen though and the slices of kameboko were not a satisfactory substitute. Also instead of pork belly they use pork loin, albeit tender with a nice five-spice flavoring. I was the only customer except for a couple of takeout orders so can't review standard levels of ambience and service. The decor is like some older places in LA's Sawtelle neighborhood; it seems to be a part of an earlier generation Japanese-American aesthetic that you don't mind worn vinyl and wooden fixtures or a counter used for random repairs that is clearly in view of the clientele. I found it charming in a funky way.

You will most likely be greeted by two of friendliest proprietors in the area. Welcome to Niji Asian Bistro, a mom and pop sushi shop. 3 appetizers to go - poke mixed, salt & pepper calamari, and sushi sampler. Poke (POH-keh) meaning "to slice or cut" is a Hawaiian dish. It is comprised of cubes of sushi grade fish topped with an Asian-inspired sauce. It is sometimes served with rice. There was definitely tuna, salmon and yellowtail (I think) mixed with Unagi sauce (sugar, soy sauce, and sake). It was served with lots of avocado. If you like sushi or sashimi, I think this will be up your alley. Salt and pepper calamari. Fried calamari wok tossed with green peppers and onions served with some bottled sweet and sour sauce. I could actually taste the salt and pepper on the battered calamari rings. No tentacles in this dish, which, for me, is a bit of a downer. There's something satisfying about crunching into little legs/arms but that's just me. What also stood out was the size of the rings...all average ring size and the cook on them was just right, crunchy outside yet tender inside. You ever go to a place where the calamari rings were gigantic...like the squid did battle with Godzilla in a previous life? No bueno. Sushi sampler - It was a Tuesday...should have paid attention to Anthony Bourdain and waited until Thurs-Sat to get fresh fish. All in all, it's a good place, with warm proprietors, and friendly service. I'm willing to exchange my hard earned money for a meal here.

We were a group of nine that included a few children. We went all out. The clear soup was good and flavorful. The salad was fresh and we loved the dressing. It wasn't the typical orange ginger but a light dressing. Delicious! I got the shrimp and scallop combo hibachi and I love that it comes with both rice and noodles. Lots of fresh vegetables. The scallops and shrimp were meaty and perfectly grilled. Others got steak cooked to their liking and some got salmon. Apps were edamame and a dragon roll and spicy tuna. I didn't try the apps but it was a fancy presentation. Everything was just so good. The service was impeccable. The chef was super engaging with everyone, including the littles. Hibachi is always fun and they are pros on fun. They handled our group with humor and the theatrics you've become accustomed to at hibachi dinner were on point. We went there on a Sunday, late afternoon, and it was amazing. I also got a fried ice cream for my birthday with fireworks! Thank you! The restaurant is big and can accommodate large parties. I want to go back soon! I do want to mention that the person that was paying for this birthday dinner didn't realize that gratuity was already added. Their hibachi is always delicious, fun, & entertaining. Their chefs have more than a decade of experience and their teppanyaki skills really show it. However, you can still get the hibachi meals at a regular table but won't be able to watch the show (I highly recommend watching the show and enjoying the meal at the grill). They have great lunch specials and even kid's meals for those looking to keep the kids entertained. My go-to is their HIBACHI COMBO with STEAK + SCALLOPS. The chef will most definitely cook the protein to your liking. Not all hibachi spots include both fried rice and noodles in the meal, but Sake Bon does! The carbs are so packed with garlicky soy flavor, unlike many other places I've tried (bold, umami, and addicting...no kidding). The meal is complete with a side salad topped with the creamiest ginger dressing and a clear soup loaded with the perfect amount of sliced mushrooms and an onion flavored broth. Pair it with a nice cocktail, wine, or sake... you're all set! Their apps are also very generously portioned, so it's a good idea to share. It's always a great time with friends and family at Sake Bon. Enjoy their hibachi, sushi and sashimi , rice and noodles, plus so much more. Their fish is fresh and tasty if you like sushi and sashimi. Overall a wonderful Japanese restaurant that serves delicious food and drink that will leave you happy and satisfied. The California roll was fresh and hit the spot. But the Basil Chicken really blew me away tonight. The main course Basil Chicken was packed with vegetables, perfectly cooked chicken, and although it was mild, had a nice kick to it.
