Between all of the apartments that I rented in the past, and the condos that I have owned, I can't remember a truly good management company. They are usually unresponsive, inattentive, and just like collecting fees. MK Asset Management is even worse. They are downright fraudulent. In one case, while moving out of our building, an older gentleman's movers accidentally caused damage to the elevator. He saw the damage and attempted to contact MK Management to pay for repairs. I don't know if they ever responded. Then, not long after, a younger man moved in. I found out later that they charged him for repairing the damage. You might think that was an honest mistake until you realize that the damage was never fixed! read more

I can't possibly explain how bad these guys are. Roaches all throughout the building and nothing was ever done about it. There was mold everywhere in the bathroom and again, despite many attempts I only ever got them to come out once and all they did was paint over the water damaged spots. Good luck actually being shown a unit. I can only imagine how responsive they are if you were to actually rent a property from them. When you call leasing, the call goes straight to voicemail, which wouldn't be an issue if that voicemailbox weren't full. Also, avoid Sam Becker at all costs. My wife, newborn, and I drove to an apartment for a showing that Sam scheduled. Upon waiting for 10 minutes, I called Sam to find out that he a) forgot about it, b) didn't call the residents of those apartments to inform them that we had scheduled a showing (which was made 4 days before the date of the showing), and c) didn't have the time to call me to tell me that we wouldn't be able to view the apartments. My wife and I were ready to put in an application that day, but now we have no interest in considering this company. Sam would not provide me the name or number of his supervisor to communicate my concern and justified frustration, so hopefully this review does the trick to get someone's attention. tl;dr avoid Sam Becker and good luck getting a hold of anyone at MK Asset. read more

MK Asset did not make the apartment I was renting feel like home. It was a nice property, but it wasn't well maintained. There was always trash on the front lawn and the grass was often not cut. The stairwells were not vacuumed regularly. This company will nickel and dime you for anything they can. There were domestic arguments in the shared outdoor area/alley where my bedroom window and many others' faced. I noticed some unusual people around who made weird comments to me, when I was walking to my apartment, so I emailed MK Asset's owner. I received no reply, and that weekend there were four homeless people found living in the apartment's storage areas. The police were called by a resident, but there was NO communication to the residents about the issue. Not sure about you guys, but I will never again pay for an apartment where people can live for free! read more

I currently live in the Wood Dale apartment complex. Beth P has been a wonderful property manager and I would definitely say that living here has been easier with her at this location. Being a locksmith, I've performed service at some of the poshest locations in Chicago...and even places like 2550 N Lakeview on Chicago's Gold Coast has its flaws. No joke: I stayed in a $4M condo for three months this past summer (don't ask how...friend of girlfriends parents who live in FL). The management was horrible. Beth, on the other hand, has always answered my questions and has been more than fair when we needed help. No, it's not perfect...nothing is; but Beth has made living her a lot more comfortable. We've lived in the Greenleaf-Paulina apartments for about 2 years and have nothing but positive things to say. A few of the reviews mention Cole, who was wonderful; they've since gotten new property managers in Ariel and Beth, who are equally responsive, understanding, and professional. Maintenance lives near by, and everyone we've interacted with from the company has been super nice. The only complaint I'd have is that there have been a few miscommunications about what needs maintenance, but that could easily be on my emails! The unit itself is stunning, with beautifully maintained hardwood floors, high ceilings, and huge lovely windows. If you're very sensitive to noise, this may not be the place for you: the neighbors are mostly quite quiet, and do respect building quiet hours, but I can sometimes hear music playing or babies crying. No worse than any other apartment I've lived in, to be sure. For the price, nothing in Rogers Park approaches this building or this management company. read more

My experience with MK Asset Management has been great! Mainly because of the property manager, Cole. He's very responsive and understanding to all situations. This is what will keep me as tenant with the property. It's important for me to be in a space that I feel comfortable and safe in, especially since rent is a little much. But I don't mind paying because the tenant service is awesome. Any concerns or questions I have, Cole is readily available! I work in the hospitality industry, so I'm all about great customer service and when I receive that then I'm all smiles. I do recommend the company for anyone and I have, primarily because of Cole! The only con I would say about the property is the walls are a little too thin for my liking. I like quiet and I like to play music every now and then. RUN AWAY. Though the building itself was nice, working with this company has been a nightmare to say the least. When I first moved in there was a large gas leak from the supposedly new furance, the HVAC system wasn't working, everything was covered in dirt and grease, the managers didn't even bother take previous tenants destroyed furniture and trash off of the property, and the smoke detector/c02 detectors were not working and were not to code. this doesn't even cover all of the issues we had. After all of this, they still demanded I pay a move-in fee. What that fee went towards? nobody knows. 0 work had been done to this unit between the last tennant leaving (several months prior) and my roomates and I moving in. Its so sad to see what could be such a wonderful property under such terrible management. If you are looking to move into one of their properties in the city, think twice. If you are willing to constantly be fighting for basic working functions in your apartment and are willing to clean up previous tenants messes, then maybe this is the right management company for you. good luck. read more

Unfortunately, I can't give zero stars or I would. We have lived in a subdivision managed by this company for several years and they have never responded to any issue in a timely manner. Unfortunately we've paid over paying 10 years of association dues for nothing. I'm amazed they're still a functioning company after all at the poor level of service they provide. They are not responsive at all. Anytime I've ever called it has gone directly to voicemail and it takes days, sometimes weeks to actually talk to someone. This management group is terrible. They will not return calls! We moved our daughter into an apartment and it had not been cleaned AT ALL!! The place was filthy and not ready for tenants. We had to move her in and do all of the cleaning ourselves. The floors were filthy! The blinds were filthy and several of them were not operational. The kitchen was loaded with grease. The balcony had loads of trash and furniture left by a previous tenant. There was a major gas leak which was detected when I did not feel well and we had it checked by the city. The door by the furnace would not close due to a floor that had been incorrectly installed. The air conditioner was not working( this turned out to be a Godsend as we had to open the windows and therefore some of the gas escaped). I personally had to caulk around the sink and the water was running/dripping in the shower. A man named Ariel did come by and try to resolve some of the issues, but the girls are still waiting for a new bathroom floor among other things. All of these items plus many more should have been dealt with prior to move-in. When my daughters roommates arrived, some of the issues had been resolved and of course we did the cleaning. Now, MK ASSETS mgmt. group is still wanting her to pay the $300. Move-in fee. RENTERS BEWARE OF THESE SLUMLORDS!!! read more

I'm not sure where these negative reviews are coming from. My experience with MK Asset Management, and Jared Margolis in particular, has been nothing but pleasant. My move-in process was smooth and easy, the building itself is lovely, and every time I've had a maintenance issue, Jared and his team have been quick to respond. Any communication I send their way is answered within 24 hours, and usually much sooner. But the clincher is this: recently, I got into a dispute with my roommate and decided that I needed to move out of my apartment to get away from him, despite how much I loved the place and wanted to stay. I wanted to find someone to take over my portion of the lease. I was nervous about approaching the management because I know that they really had no incentive to help me out, but when I explained the situation to Jared, he was very understanding and walked me through the process step by step. The move-out process was just as smooth and pleasant as the move-in process. I won't be able to move into my own new place for a few months yet, but when I do, there's no doubt but that I'll be calling Jared's office to see if they have any other units available. Cole Giordan is hands down the best realtor/property manager I've ever worked with. He was kind, accommodating, and helped us get approved for a beautiful apartment. Most realtors, it's obvious, are simply trying to make money and get apartments rented. It was clear from day one that Cole's main objective was to make sure we found a home that BEST fit our needs. He didn't put extra pressure on us or make us feel like he was going to rent the units out if we didn't make a decision ASAP. He moved his schedule around to make time to show us units at convenient times for us, and was patient while we slowly walked through, took pictures, and just took our time. I lived at one of MK Asset Management's buildings for a year in the Lakeview East neighborhood. The management of the building definitely improved throughout the year as they started to really improve the overall building. While I lived there they redid the laundry room with new finishes and then surprised all of us by turning the back parking lot on the property into a nice patio area with comfortable outdoor furniture, 2 nice big grills, and bike racks. They also replaced all of the carpet in the common stairs. It is nice living somewhere that the management starts to improve the area, rather than just leaving the building as is. It was convenient that they had management offices below our building as well, which allowed the management staff to be very timely with any issues that we had. Cole Giordon really helped out with quick responses and solutions to our issues. He also helped me out personally when I was searching for a new apartment and was able to help me by submitting the necessary landlord recommendations over a holiday weekend with short notice - which I really appreciate him doing. I had lived with previous large management companies in Chicago where you could never get in touch with an actual person, MK Asset Management is not like that. Thanks for a great year! read more
