Shape of nails was not as expected, the place was pretty dirty, would not come back :/

I stopped in yesterday to ask about prices and availability. I made an appointment for today and randomly ended up with Jack for my pedicure and Ana for my dip manicure. Both did an awesome job. (The last place I went said they knew how to do dip, but clearly did not...) MK is small and a little run-down, but it's the first place I've ever gone that doesn't feel like a factory trying to get as many people in and out as quickly as possible. Both techs were friendly and paid attention to detail. The best part is, the prices were very reasonable (lower than average) and the place is convenient to get to. read more

Located in a strip mall along Little Creek Road next door to a small gym and a Dollar Tree. Plenty of shared parking and regretfully; the entrance and amount of space inside isn't handicap accessible if you require use of mobility devices. The pedicure chairs are for sh*t! They do work but intermittently and it's aggravating to apply the settings and after less than a minute realize that it stop vibrating, massaging and performing any other relaxing feature. They do have an array of colors to choose from for traditional and gel services. Be informed, the tools were not in packaging that would indicate that they have been placed in an autoclave for sterilization. One person started my pedicure and another took over. The young lady that took over took her time and did a good job. They are capable of accepting contactless pay but will look at you like you're performing sorcery and have to ask the owner if its ok before doing so. The inside doesn't boast much waiting space and is congested. There are no offers of refreshments here and customer service was not an issue. I ended up here when my first choice was not able to accommodate me. Still debating on if I'd return. Not a horrible experience but satisfied the need. read more

Their work is impeccable. I can trust any technician to do a neat, quality job. I haven't changed my nail set in ten years; I'm strictly pink and white. With that said, I am very picky about how I like it done. It's ALWAYS perfect when I get it done here. However, they take FOREVER. I have never been able to get my nails and toes done here because my nails alone take TWO HOURS. I've fallen asleep in the chair more times than I can count, but at least I'm always pleasantly surprised and feeling fresh when I wake up. This was my first and last experience at MK nails. I got dip powder on my finger nails which was done well and is still intact after 4 days of hand sanitizer and gloves from my job. However, I also got a GEL pedicure which typically last me 3 weeks and after only 4 days my toe nails are chipping!! Either they didn't use gel polish and still charged me for gel polish prices or they need new products. I am very disappointed and do not recommend this place for a gel pedicure. read more

My nails split down the middle and my cuticles were itchy. My cuticles were constantly getting cut nicked, lacerated and bruised. I would leave the shop with ripped and bloody cuticles and beautiful nails finally decided enough was enough. Please be safe. Update: Tried to give them one more shot. They made me wait 3 hours to be seen when I had an appointment first thing in the morning. They claimed the people who signed in after me were before me. According to another woman, apparently this isn't strange behavior for them. They pick and choose who gets to go next regardless of who actually books an appointment. Very disgusted. I walked out. Really didn't like my manicure but my pedicure was awesome! The lady I had didn't fully cover the entire nail on my nails or toes. She really took her time though which is what I liked. I asked for matte black nails and regular black toes. The matte didn't come out as matte as I wanted and the designs I received of flowers did not compliment the black what so ever. The location is good but the space is horrible. Very small not much ventilation in the building and poorly spaced... would only recommend a pedicure from here and acrylics. I have been to mk nails before and had a pleasant experience. This past time, was the first time i got the old lady. She was very rude and absolutely unprofessional because of THEIR mistakes. She told me "nobody is going to be looking at my nails that closely". I paid for a service and got bad service so i wanted it fixed. Will be going elsewhere and what a shame i have to do so since i have brought them alot of business. The old man and anna have been fine. Anna does tend to have quite an attitude though. Walked in on a Tuesday at 5:15 pm and Myuh and K were working on two ladies. I had to wait about 30 minutes. Place was small there are four Nail stations and four pedi spa chairs. This is next to the dollar tree but behind sonics. Full sets start at $20, gel polish is an extra$10 I didn't want Gel only because o plan to change colors in two weeks for Christmas time I will go back forget again! This isn't a fancy spa but they have great colors and they're very nice! Complimentary candy and water :) I saw K who is married to My or Myuh is her name. Both of them seem to be doing fantastic work! I found my salon after searching endlessly for decent and reasonably priced salons in VA beach and Chesapeake. There is a $6 minimum to use credit cards. I took off one star because the smell, they need to air it out I got a huge headache from the nail chemical smell I almost just wanted to open the door and realized it's cold out, but I'm sure there's a way. $26 for a manicure and pedicure! This nail salon did an excellent job on my manicure and pedicure. They really took their time and gave attention to detail in ensuring my nails came out perfect. Nice selection of OPI colors and they even offered me bottled water on a hot day (free of charge). Chairs have massage feature and everything looks brand new. I have gone twice here. My first time I had the younger male do a full set for me and I loved my nails and the man was also very polite. (Second pic) The African American woman working there painted my niece's nails for her and she was also very kind. My second visit was 3 weeks later and I went in for a fill(first picture- black nails )and paid $15. I had an older woman do my fill and my overall nails were good I just felt like she did not do as well as the man I had last time. I was charged $110 for this full set. They are clear acrylic nails. My two ring fingers had a holographic design. When the owner ( I do not know her name ) showed me the receipt, I asked for a breakdown of the charges. I have NEVER paid this amount for nails before. The owner could not explain to me why I was paying this amount. All she kept saying was "the picture you showed me" ( I showed her a picture of what I want my nails to look like ) on top of that I had gel polish on my real nails prior to getting my nails done and they charge $15 to remove the polish !! She was very nasty. I never got a clear explanation of why I paid $110. Although they turned out great, I WILL be taking my services elsewhere. Sidebar : while I was getting my nails done, a young lady came into the shop with her own strip lashes and asked how much they charge to put them on. The owner told her $40!!! I'm from California, so maybe my standards are high, but I'm giving this place 3 stars due to the older gentleman that works there. Cons: I hate to say it, but this place is kinda ghetto as far as the overall appearance. I've NEVER seen them sanitize their tools in Barbicide which is a HUGE no-no, nor disinfecting the pedi bowl in between clients. Pros: Cheap prices The older gentleman is a perfectionist! Tiny nail salon! Went here with a friend and wanted to get our pedis done at the same time like most spit can accommodate. Not here. We also wanted to get our nails done and they so long with other people that we didn't get to do that. I only got a pedi (which was good) and she got nail fill. About 2.5 hours for pedi and fill. My friend and I stopped in for mani/pedis after the beach and we were the only people there so they got us in as soon as we picked our colors. They have a good selection of reds and pinks in OPI and then a lot of colors in brands I'm not sure about. We both ended up with nice nails. The man who did my nails cut my toe cuticle which hurt for the rest of the day (hence 3 stars). But the odd thing that I'm not used to is that they sprayed pure rubbing alcohol on my feet and hands after doing my cuticles! Ouch! At least it killed any bacteria I could have picked up :/ My tip to the owners is to get some music (it was deathly quiet) and don't use rubbing alcohol on someone you just cut. A diamond in the rough! A nice and quiet salon. Traditional fill-ins start at $13 and regular pedicures start at $18. The evening news is on the TV and because there aren't a ton of children running around, you can actually hear it. After a long day at work, I don't mind coming to have services rendered. They weren't busy midday on a Monday, which is to be expected, and was a nice change. I had a basic mani/pedi, since I was scheduled for surgery the next day. Having moved a couple weeks ago, my hands were a mess, and my feet were worse because I hadn't been able to reach them myself due to pain for months. I was told by 2 different ppl my idea couldn't be done and that it would be ugly. I observed one of the female workers prepare the foot bath for a Caucasian woman by adding bath salts to the water, which turned the water blue. A male worker called me to the chair to start the foot bath. He turn the water on and he left the store . He never added any bath salts to my foot bath. My feet were in just plain water. I asked another worker to add some bath salts to the water . One of the workers said that he would return and add the foot bath salts . I waited a few minutes the man did not return . I took my feet out the water and put my slides on abs left. I was tried so bad because of my skin color .If you are a person of color don't go to this place to spend your money . Came here because of all the great reviews but I was disappointed. I got a simple full set w gel polish.My nails are thick and streaky. BEWARE OF THE ELDERLY FEMALE NAIL TECH. She made me bleed on four different fingers. She kept getting distracted and looking around at what was goin on in the shop while using the power tool on my nails. The two ladies on either side of me had their nails done and theirs looked amazing. At the end I didn't even mention her injuring my fingers because I didn't want an argument but I definitely feel like I should've gotten a discount. The lady notices as she put what I'm guessing was alcohol on the knicks. Now my nails look OK but hurt to use because of the damage on my fingers. I'm not saying don't go to this place but definitely be weary of your nail tech because they are not at all equally talented. Also everything in their was very dusty. I get it that a lot of what they do with the nails creates residue. But I can't help but think that if they don't keep the front desk counter clean and decluttered how well do they clean the nail tools? The prices as low but you get what you pay for. I have gone here twice, once for a fill and once for a full set which is the pink ones. This salon has the best nail artists for the lowest price BUT girls that like long nails will have to pay more - which sucks and i always hate when i go expecting to pay $20 for a full set (the price list doesn't say 20+, just $20) and i left paying 35, although i got gel. at first for the length i originally wanted the woman said $35! that's a lot for barely any length added. i told her to do whatever length $25 would be and chose a gel polish since it would last longer. chrome nails are an extra $25 the woman told me, which is also steep for that. overall they do have the best prices, no one really talks and the people who do nails aren't the friendliest, but at the end of the day i go for good nails and not to have a conversation, although the price upping has frustrated me, i always have left with nails i love. i recommend. both times the man that works in the shop has done my nails and he truly takes his time to make sure he does detailed and good work that i will love, he also asks if i like how they look a few times throughout. I just wish they didn't up the price so much for length. for gel ( which is $10 added to a full set which is $20, and a fill is $13 but he said $15 because of length ) and for chrome and designs i completely understand the upcharge. I would also like to note that not only one of the people who does nails is good, everyone is really good at nails ( acrylic ) and i never have to worry about who is doing them although i prefer the man who works in the store.
