They expertly drilled and hung my new modern front door ("blank" mahogany wood, purchased through Home Depot and installed in a pre-existing frame), including a Schlage Encode smart lock. He had all the right equipment to shave it on the sides, and the door hangs perfectly open midway. They installed 2 spring hinges to auto-close, plus weatherstripping, and when there was a small issue with the weatherstripping, he came back two weeks later free of charge and swapped out for an alternative solution. As a bonus, when I asked him for guidance regarding an unrelated window situation and was prepared to pay him to help me solve it, he immediately diagnosed why the window was stuck: the wood windowsill had swollen and was pressing against the window frame, causing the window to not slide easily. He removed the window and helped me repair the situation: something others wanted to charge hundreds of dollars to diagnose and fix! (And he later said "no charge".) Furthermore, as he moved through my house, he happened to notice that some of my inside-door hinges had popped up: told me what causes that, and told me HOW to easily fix it. (PLUS, why I would be smart to tap them down with a hammer myself instead of ignoring it.) Just because he's a nice guy. The man has an eye for door issues, and he is very generous in spirit. He seems to like what he does and genuinely cares about the customer. The cost he quoted over the phone for installing the front door and weatherstripping is exactly what he charged. There were no surprises. And just as importantly, for me: he was able to fit me in on a tight timeline so that I could coordinate with my painter and other contractors to meet the ideal overall project schedule I needed. It's so hard to find someone who is both available on a flexible timeline, and actually good at what they do. 5 Stars PLUS.

To make matters worse, I was given the runaround when I asked for help, and they refused to fix problems they already know exist. The manager even admitted they are aware of these issues. I contacted A1 on December 2nd about a problem with my screen door. After returning from a business trip on December 16, I provided more details about the issue. They said someone would come to take measurements, but according to my front door camera, no one ever showed up. On December 18, they confirmed via text--providing detailed information--that they could do the job at a price I could afford. Finally, on December 30th, they came to do the work. I was out of town for business again, but since my first experience was positive, I trusted things would go smoothly. That was a mistake. They did the exact opposite of what we agreed upon, despite confirming the details in writing. Nothing they promised was actually done. To make matters worse, they left my front porch a mess. I later had another handyman look at their work, and he told me I was overcharged, especially considering they just reused the original materials and merely painted over them. Sam carefully removed the broken section of the frame and even referred me to a machine shop that was able to duplicate the outdated part. We did hit a couple of bumps with the duplicated piece (due to my own miscommunication with the shop about his recommendations), but Sam's patience and problem-solving ability really stood out. He worked through every obstacle, got the part to fit, and made sure the repair was solid. On top of that, he installed a brand-new handle mechanism, serviced the wheels that weren't moving at all, leveled the entire door, and even closed the gap it used to have. The door now slides smoothly, locks properly, and feels like new--without the insane cost of a full replacement. Sam's professionalism, reliability, and craftsmanship deserve to be highlighted. But recently, it was proving impossible to open, even when using all my strength. Finally, based on online reviews, I called Sam last week and explained the problem. He asked several questions and requested photos of the door and its frame. He suspected what the problem might be, gave me a rough estimate, and managed to squeeze me into his calendar that same day. Arriving, he assessed and confirmed the problem. He showed me the worn and deteriorating track wheels, replaced the faulty parts, cleaned the frame, readjusted the locking mechanism, cleaned the area so that it all appeared and WORKED like a new door. It has been a perfectly working door since. He also, at my request, provided wonderful advice on future energy-efficient and sound-proof options for an old window. Sam is true professional. Good guy, cool dude too.
