I had heard about MLK Deli serving up some great sandwiches, so a friend and I came here to check them out for lunch. Their menu includes various sandwiches, salads, wings, and sides, as well as their supposedly housemade drinks (lemonade). I ordered: +the Big Chair Beef Rueben - this was a marble rye bread with beef pastrami, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing; this was probably one of the worst reubens I've had; the pastrami wasn't sliced, but little torn bits; there was no listing of coleslaw in the ingredients, but it seems as if it just a huge dollop and a concoction of wet coleslaw mixed with sauerkraut, as the only thing you could taste was the vinegary cabbage I did make my sandwich order into a combo, which comes with a choice of Dirty Potato chips and a canned soda. My friend ordered the Tuna Sandwich, which came nestled between a brioche bun with lettuce and a sliced tomato; she said that the tuna should have been served on the side, as it seemed to not be drained properly and it made the sandwich a soggy mess. She also ordered a strawberry lemonade, which wasn't even chilled properly. There was only one individual making the sandwiches, but he was on his phone the whole entire time, with no mask, and literally just talking over the food - it was kind of gross, in addition to making the whole process so inefficient; we waited for nearly 45+ minutes - pretty ridiculous, because how long does it really take to make a sandwich?! This is strictly a carry-out place, and there are no seats/tables available in- or outside. This place totally blows, and not sure what all the other raving reviews are about; clearly, these people have never experienced a good, true deli. Such a shame. On a side note, there was an individual who checked out her sandwich and was so upset in how 'small' it was, considering she paid 'over $10 for it' - she ended up returning it to get a refund. Limited street parking available. +one of the worst delis +super slow service +limited street parking available

First time trying this spot. I'll definitely be back. Though they are known for sandwhiches, I got the wings and baaabbbyyy I almost crashed my car driving home they were so good. Hb flavor is like a habanero but sweet but definitely spicy (hope that makes sense). Just to get some and change your life !

MUST TRY! I love seafood. The service was quick. I called in my order before I arrived. I planned to purchase the crab cake, but they were sold out. The salmon cake was the next best option and it did not disappoint! It was super filling very tasty! The bun was also toasted and I loved the sauce on the side. I will be back for the crab cake. Amazing!

The other day while completing a review on Mumbo Sauce, and I randomly walked into this spot, and noticed some thangs. First off the smell of the food cooking awesomely, flared the follicles of my nostrils!! Second off it was benevolently clean!! Even though I wasn't purchasing anything, just ask you a question they were extremely welcoming and considerate. The place, @mlkdeli on 3113 M.L.K Jr. Ave., S.E. Washington D.C. . . . OK let's get to it this spot is a deli so it has deli foods. They have a gourmet turkey sandwich called the "Jive Turkey", a salmon cake sandwich called "Marion Barry", their infamous "Mr. Lukes" fried chicken breast sandwich l, and their "John Wall" ham sandwich. They have salads, wings (with habanero bbq, garlic Parmesan, and Fire sauce flavors), and signature dishes like their crabmeat topped salmon with Brussel sprouts. Look so on her Instagram there chef cook shop special Off menu dishes like seafood fried rice, a delicious looking seafood lasagna, and jerk chicken!! . . . I copped their "Big Chair" Rueben (pictured with beef pastrami, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, yah dressing, & marble rye bread $8), their 1/4 pound Crabcake sandwich ( pictured with lettuce, & tomato, on a brioche bun $20), their wings (pictured 5 mumbo wings, & 5 wet lemon pepper wings $12), and lastly their pineapple lemonade juice (pictured $2.50) . STAMP the Rueben...its EVERYTHING a Rueben is supposed to be!! . Their Crab Cake was absolutely DELICIOUS!! No filler...Lump crab meat!! Nuff said!! . The wet lemon pepper...STAMP!! The mumbo sauce wings...STAMP!! This Mumbo is in my top 5 best sauces!! These wings are cooked to perfection!! . . . Excellent customer service, expedient cooking times, clean establishment, decent online menu interaction & rough parking. GO!! That's it. #bigschlimsreviews #blackownedbusiness #rueben #crabcake #mumbosauce #wetlemonpepper #wings #pineapplelemonade #go #thatsits

You have no idea. This food was so flavorful and made with love. It's black owned and doing so well! The crab cake sandwich has no fillers and well seasoned. The hot dog toppings were so tasty, I was in heaven. We went at lunchtime, the food took a bit of time to cook due to all the ppl in line. There are sandwiches, salads, wings, side and fresh juices. The food is made to order y'all!

This deli has been around for many many many years. While their have been several management companies own the place, the current company is one of the best. The new company had updated the decor and made the place more modern. However, the staff lacks top-level professionalism. I feel they are on a good track, however, some thing needs to be improved. The prices have increased greatly and the quality of many old school items have decreased (including the fried chicken salad and the steak n cheese sandwiches). The cake are amazing!

These crab cakes are to die for! As someone who is constantly disappointed by the dryness and cost of the fancy crab cakes around town, I was genuinely surprised by how moist and tasty these crab cakes were. It's a little messy to eat as a sandwich so I would recommend that you get bread on the side to balance out the authentic crab fish flavor.

Capo Italian Deli - Old Town Alexandria…read more I reviewed our new Old Town neighbor - Capo Italian Deli - early in 2026. Time for an update. The deli is outstanding. Taking up a tiny footprint on the N. Washington Avenue thoroughfare, a few seconds from King Street, the deli delivers both hot and cold deli entrees, soft drinks, and salads. There's maybe half a dozen tables inside and a couple of tables outside, but from what I have seen thus far, most of the trade is with carry-out service, drawing from the excellent reputation Capo brought with it as it arrived in Old Town (the restaurant has siblings in Shaw NW, and Western Market in the District, Tyson's Corner in Vienna, VA, Annapolis and Potomac, MD). Fresh Philly rolls for those seeking a traditional hero sandwich, with go-to seasonings and all of the essential protein groups. My favorite is a large half roast beef half turkey with lettuce, tomato, and mayo (I skip the Italian dressing, which is part of the default, and I skip the cheese). I can and have made this $18 sandwich last three meals (so I ask them to cut the sandwich into three pieces), and the ingredients stay fresh for the next 24 hours. The last time I did this the sandwich fed me from 4:45 a.m. to 9 p.m., as I served as an election officer at one of Alexandria's polling places. Neat, trim, and completely satisfying. Just a point of concern: given its location, the opportunity to double-park while picking up an order seems to be just too tempting. This location, however, cannot over the long term sustain double-parkers. The deli is about 100 feet from the intersection of King Street and N. Washington Street. There is a dedicated lane for cars seeking to park adjacent to the deli. And then there are two northbound lanes on N. Washington Street. That's it - just two lanes serving one of the busiest intersections in Old Town. If a delivery-service car pulls up alongside one of the parked cars, all hell will break loose by drivers who suddenly find a delivery vehicle double-parking in front of Capo, leaving but one northbound lane open for however long it takes for the delivery agent to gather the order and beat it out of there. This happens with remarkable frequency, starting at about 11 a.m. and running throughout the day. That's not going to make good neighbors of Capo's nearby shops. Alexandria Parking has its work cut out for it, but here the rule prohibiting double-parking has to be enforced - it's both a safety issue and an issue of common courtesy. Doesn't matter if you think you'll just be in and out of the deli in seconds. We know it doesn't work that way, not always, and here - not even often. More often than not the double-parker will be creating a traffic hazard just by parking alongside a parked car in front of the deli. Please, don't do this.

This review is based solely on the customer service I received over the phone…read more I had placed a $62 order through DoorDash and chose Capo even though there are plenty of other deli spots nearby, because they normally make really good sandwiches. Unfortunately, the customer service this time was extremely disappointing. I called with a simple question about the bread since I have braces and needed something soft. The person who answered the phone was rude and dismissive, acting as if my call was an inconvenience. When I asked which bread was the softest, he cut me off to say they were "super busy" and could only change the bread on one sandwich, not both. I asked again for clarification, and he continued sounding irritated and uninterested in helping. He repeated that they had a line of people and needed to know which one sandwich I wanted to change. For the amount I paid, the lack of basic courtesy and willingness to answer a straightforward question was unacceptable. This will be my last time ordering from Capo in Alexandria, VA.

Who knew that there would be a cafe in Pentagon City with this option? The interior is a bit cramped with many cardboard boxes piling up. We were able to order the food at the counter and waited about 5-10 minutes before the food was ready. BRAISED PORK OVER RICE (卤肉饭) - 15.49 Lots of rice, more rice than I could finish with the amount of braised pork belly they give. The pork was very fatty, which made it tasty and juicy, but it wasn't very saucy. There were two halves of a bokchoy and half of an incredibly boiled egg, which was meh. Still, I finished all the toppings and maybe a little less than half of the rice. I was full, but $15.49 for the food was not worth it. Overall, 3.5/5 but bump it to a 4/5 since there's a scarcity of food like this in the area. They sell other comfort Asian dishes too, like coconut chicken cutlet rice and Japanese eel rice.

Both are kind. At the end, she gave my daughter a granola bar for free. The menu is a mix of Korean food and the small market in the back sells Korean products and more. It's very fun to browse and pick up some snacks and treats. My daughter loved the juicy grape fruit snacks. To eat, we ordered the Japanese curry and milk tea. Both were full of flavor and made with love. "This is my new favorite meal of all time," said my daughter. She devoured the bowl herself! There's a small parking lot in front of the cafe.
