I had been walking around Boston for a couple of hours with my kids and naturally we all worked up an appetite and decided to try something in Quincy Market. My 8 year old started talking about how much he wanted some mac and cheese. I was like "sorry kid, you're going to have to get a sandwich, pizza, burger..." because I had no idea where I could find some take-out mac & cheese. Well, lo and behold, as we are walking thru, we see a man handing out samples of mac & cheese! I just couldn't believe my eyes. My son was very happy that he was able to satisfy his craving. I'm a pretty picky pasta eater (has to be al dente!), but I actually enjoyed the sample & ordered some for myself as well! They had lots of varieties... BBQ, seafood, bacon, etc... My son chose the bacon and had the Boston seafood. The bacon mac & cheese would have been better if the bacon was crispy and chopped up instead of whole pieces of limp bacon in the mix. And the seafood one was okay, but I wish they didn't use imitation seafood. We will definitely eat here again when in the area, but the next time we will just stick to the plain version. read more

I got the Boston seafood mac and cheese from this place and it was without question the worst mac and cheese I have ever had. It was an almost liquid, american-cheese based sauce warmed up in a pan with pasta briefly tossed in, and to make it worse the crab turned out to be imitation "crab", which was not noted anywhere. I started scouring the menu board for a footnote once I saw them preparing it and realized what was going on! I paid $15.50 for it, waited 15 minutes for them to make it (there was ONE guy cooking on a busy Sunday afternoon), then took about 2 bites before throwing it in the trash and going to another stall for something edible. There are plenty of decent options in Quincy market. I definitely recommend steering clear of this one. read more

I found myself singing at Faneuil Hall around lunchtime, so I just knew I had to try the ooey gooey mac n' cheesy place I'd read about on Yelp. I went for the small Chicken Mac because I figured I ought to throw in some extra protein with my fat slathered carbs. It set me back a whopping $9.40, even with my performer's 10% discount. Pretty steep!! The mac n cheese itself was alright, but I have to agree with some of the other reviews; the flavor got old pretty quickly. The chicken wasn't what I would call choice cuts and despite all the cheese I saw them toss in and on my mac n cheese, the flavor could have been cheesier. First off, this place has "WE ARE GREEN" overload syndrome. Their attempt to sway eco-sumers ends up being tacky and pompous. It also leaves guests confused.... why the plastic containers, plastic bottles, and plastic bags? But most importantly, the mac&cheese was disgusting. The cheese tasted like cheap velveeta and kraft singles melted together. Yesterday. The seafood tasted frozen and dull. Although the Mac & Cheese is great (though, try the BBQ or the Buffalo Chicken w/extra sauce, both are my favorites), the mac & cheese really isn't my favorite part. This place actually has THE best sandwich ever. The Mediterranean Grilled Cheese. Made with pesto, feta cheese, American and Roma tomatoes, this sandwich is AMAZING!!!! The bacon Grilled cheese is awesome as well. And also a great (but filling) compliment is the thick and creamy tomato soup. You won't be disappointed! Now, I'm not attracted to anything that screams "organic!" as their sign boasts, but I AM a sucker for mac 'n cheese...especially when it comes after the words "free sample." And that's how they got me. Had I known it would take such a long time to prepare the food, I wouldn't have spent so much time deciding. Side of soup, salad, or grilled cheese? For $9, I didn't have to decide...I ended up getting the combo chicken noodle soup (kinda bland), original mac n cheese (simply heavenly...don't mess with the rest!), and spring salad (very fresh). I love this place. The only way I dont go here everyday is that I tell myself that walking over to Faneiul is really far. It is not but I keep telling myself that. I have read many reviews that say the mac and cheese is too cheesy. I have to agree but since I go pretty frequently they know that when I order a large mac and cheese they use a small laddle of the cheesy base. If I dont get a salad, grilled cheese, mac and cheese combo for $10 then I always get a large Italian. The best part about this place is how big the portions are!! Unable to make a decision on where in Faneuil Hall to catch lunch, my sister, bf, and I walked up and down the rows a few times, trying to keep track of the best-looking places. After our third walk through the Hall, we touched base and discovered that MMMac & Cheese was at the top of each of our lists. Our decision made, we perused the menu, trying to determine what to order. While the grilled cheese options were tempting, we agreed that some mac and cheese was what we were really craving. Being our first time, we went with an order of the traditional mac and cheese, although the menu also boasts a number of more creative options containing all sorts of veggies and meats. We also ordered a green salad, to keep things sort-of healthy. The mac and cheese is made to order in a saute pan, and you can really tell. It was nice, hot, and cheesy, but not crusty--exactly what I was looking for! We ordered a small, which was a nicely-sized portion for the three of us when combined with another entree and the salad (its a big portion for one person). Speaking of the salad... it wasn't so great and the dressing tasted like it had come out of a bottle. I won't bother to get it again and would instead stick with the mac and cheese. read more

I'm a sucker (understatement) for mac & cheese, so seeing this here was like reuniting with my long lost puppy from childhood (again, understatement). The sheer force of God and his noodly minions compelled me to reach into my wallet and fork over my credit card for a large "Boston Seafood Mac & Cheese." I had no say in it whatsoever. Before you throw up, let me back up. I've tasted a lot of different m&c in my life, from the almost (!) silly $40-a-plate versions at fancy restaurants where you should have probably ordered something else, to the always-tasty-and-delicious easy mac. I've made it myself a dozen different ways, with more "solid blocks of cheese and destroyed noodles" than I'd care to recall. So when I say, this lobster/shrimp m&c from MMMac is yucky, I mean it's pretty yucky. Lobster mac is one of those great things in this world that is untaintable, like the virgin Mary, or crude oil, or Zeus. And what they've done here is put some low-grade seafood in a sloppy corn-starch and flour-based cheese sauce and stir-fried it with some goopy noodles. It tasted like the cardboard box that Easy Mac comes in. While the service is fast, I got a VIP discount, and it was relatlvely cheap overall ($8.98), I was completely dissatisfied with my dish. If you had taken some frozen lobster meat from the freezer, and cooked it with a box of Kraft Mac and Cheese, you'd probably have a better meal. I appreciate the effort, but that sauce has way too many other things in it besides cheese or artificial cheese flavoring (which I also enjoy). I really enjoyed this place, which was recommended by our Lyft driver :) This place is located inside of the Quincy Marketplace. We have a mac & cheese place in California called Elbows. They could learn a few things from this place. I loved the fact that everything is made to order and they cook it in front of you so you exactly how your food is being handled and what's going in it. My boyfriend and I split a bowl of their bacon mac & cheese. I'm not a fan of bacon but I really liked how the bacon wasn't too crispy and how it tasted when combined with the cheeses they used. MMMac N Cheese is well worth the wait. I now know why there is always a line in front of it. They use the freshest products and cook everything to order. I finished most of what I ordered and brought the rest home. I had it the next morning... I know... not the typical breakfast... but it was just as good if not better the next day. I love this place. This is coming from one who despises Faneuil Hall, the entire Quincy Market area, and everything it has ever stood for, stands for, and will ever stand for. I find every retail establishment, food stall, and junk peddling cart morally reprehensible. Every time I walk down the Government Center stairs and my eyes unfortunately come to rest of the hoards of disgusting neon-floral shirted morons from flat states in their Hoverounds waddling around the Incan pan flute bands or the famous "Black Guys Dancin'!" I want to shoot myself and pray my body is immediately carried away to the comparative sanctuary of the Bostonian sewer system by the cat-sized rats. That being said, MMMac& & Cheese is the only place I would save, say, if I had the power to rescue one place in Downtown Boston from an apocalyptic nuke. They make each dish fresh, which is practically unheard of at FHM, and they have cool combinations of cheese and meats/vegetables that I actually want to ingest. Plus, to dull the evil, burning sting of being employed at FHM, you get a VIP card, which in turn takes a couple bucks off your tourism-induced inflated-price meal. It's pretty great. The guys working there are always fantastic, too. I kinda love them. They're normal human beings and not crackheads or teenage burnouts scooping faux-gelato to make some pot money between the third and fourth times around their junior year. All in all, spend your $9 here on something that will fill you up forever and taste pretty damn good doing it. Then get the hell out of FHM, lest your soul flee your body. read more

I have been here a number of times and really enjoyed the chicken Mac & cheese. This isn't Patti Labelle Mac & cheese or your mom's but it hits the spot in a pinch. Today I stopped by and ordered a small Mac w/chicken. The person making the Mac went way overboard w/ the cheese. To the point where all I could taste was cheese. To be fair, there is cheese sauce they use w/some "real" shredded cheese and it probably only takes a small amount to go overboard. Once you have passed these obstacles, you will find what I call Cheese Heaven! If you are stuck at work on a cold, rainy day, drag yourself out of the office and head over to this place. You'll get the comfort food you want on a rainy day. I ordered the Mac n' Cheese, Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup combo. All for $9.75 not bad considering I am getting two meals in one! The Mac n' Cheese: cheesy, creamy and made right in front of you. I ordered the classic but these guys have so many different varieties that I almost felt adventurous and tried the Buffalo chicken mac n' cheese. The Grilled Cheese: cheesy, buttery and made right in front of you. When I say I want a grilled cheese, this place is what I am talking about. It looks like the ones your mom would make. Besides waiting in line for over 10+ minutes because the girl working there wouldn't put down her phone, the food was generally disappointing. The mac & cheese was way too heavy for me to handle. I ordered the Classic American Mac & the dish had more cheese than macaroni. I felt like I was eating a block of cheese instead of macaroni. Out of all the places to eat in Quincy Market here's what's nice about MMMac & Cheese. First, their mac and cheese comes in a nice variety. From simple to a Boston version full of crab and shrimp. I had the cheeseburger mac and it was creamy and delicious. Second, they make it right in front of you. There's a number of food stalls in the market that sell pasta dishes usually in the hot pans and under a light. Plus side is all those guys have to do is spoon it out and hand it to you. That does mean that you'll wait a short bit while it's being prepared. I went during lunch time so there was a 7 minute wait. And I had lunch late (1pm) so expect a slightly longer or shorter wait depending on the volume. Last thing is the price. Most of the dishes are under 9 bucks, which is about the average of most the other restaurants in the market. So for some quality mac it's not a bad price. It's not your mothers mac and cheese but it comes pretty darn close. read more

Slow as hell, but pretty decent. Came here on a Saturday afternoon looking for some food, and was badly dismayed at the abysmal Yelp ratings of many of the places in Faneuil Hall (I know, I was a tourist, but I WAS hungry. . .), so when I found 3.5 stars, I got in line and ordered extremely quickly. Then I waited. And waited. And waited some more, to the tune of 19 minutes to get my food. My girl had already gotten her food at another stand, sat down and was 1/3 way through by the time I got there. The food itself is okay - decent pasta, cheesy, good chicken, but nothing amazing. Watching them cook, I saw that the small and the large portions were exactly the same size - the boxes, different size, but the food, same size. So net net, you'll be filled up with either size so get the small, the food's okay, just budget a lot of time if there are people waiting for food. I'd say you can do better in Faneuil, but probably not. read more

My dad loves loves loves loves mac'n'cheese -- out a blue box. I am starting to love it too, but not out of the box. When I saw this on my internet perusing before my trip, I flipped out and got excited. Which, having tried it, was probably unnecessary. It's pretty good, but I was not wow'd. First of all, it was difficult to find. I think that has more to do with the Market than restaurant. But, seriously, I was looking for it and had to turn around and retrace my steps to find it again. The guy was polite but not overly friendly. He actually looked kind of bored. Dad got the regular, I got the cheeseburger mac'n'cheese. It was a tad overpriced. It took a little bit of time to get, but he made it pretty fresh in front of us. I'll give him the time. Him making it in front of us made me want to try grated parmesan in my home mac'n'cheese. It's a good idea. It was all just OK. I didn't walk away thinking I wanted to come back for more; I actually was more annoyed by Quincy Market and the sea of middle-schoolers, Asian tourists, and elderly couples than wow'd by the food. Oh Yeah Lobster Mac & Cheese! I've walked by this spot in Faneuil Hall a bunch of times, and always ended up going for one of my tried and true food stands instead.because I wanted a sure thing. I finally decided to try it out in earnest and found that the samples are only the tip of the iceberg of tastiness! The large portion size is excellent for a hungry guy and I even had some to share. I went with the seafood mac & cheese, and I was not disappointed. I can't wait to try out some of the other items on the menu down there! I'm giving it 3 stars because, while delicious, it's not a proper baked plate of mac & cheese. It's great for a food stand in Faneuil, but I wouldn't trek down there just to have it. I hate Mac & Cheese that I don't make myself. Something about that old, processed cheese that sits for too long. I could never stomach it. Even when I try it at higher scaled restaurants when other people order it, just always tastes old. My fiance went here while I went somewhere else. I don't do a lot of reviews, but never too late, I guess. We were visiting Boston for the first time, and we are from Chicago. Lots of good food and things to do in Chicago, so we went to Boston keeping things in perspective. After looking at reviews, we decided to go to MMMac N Cheese, but was pretty disappointed. It was a little hard to find, because it was in what one would call a food court, but not in a large separated area. Just think it was a long and narrow aisle and food all along the sides. That was fine, very busy and crowded, but first time seeing something like that. Anyway, the food itself? NOTHING special! It was just Mac and cheese (tortellini shells) with some seafood. It was plain, no seasoning, and all we tasted was cheese. It was the day's special, so the small size was $9. Not the highlight of our trip. read more

As a local of the city, I usually try really hard to avoid Quincy Market. Especially when the sun comes out. We all know it gets really crowded and it seems to me the vendors always seem to get a little aggressive. But I was craving some Buffalo Mac and Cheese and decided to check out this place a friend had told me about and I am so glad I did. The chicken was tender bite sized pieces, the buffalo sauce was pretty good ( could've been a bit hotter) but the mac and cheese part was soooo gooood. I'm still a little baffled by the way this Mac and Cheese was made. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious. Like in a cheesy paradise of heaven where the clouds are made out of Parmesan and cheddar heaven good. But watching them make the macaroni had me scratching my head. It's cheese sauce, with slices of cheese, and grated cheese, with more cheese all stirred in to make the base sauce on caviatappi noodles. So much cheese texture it had my head spinning, but once I came out of my cheese coma I came to the conclusion it was beautiful. As a sort of fast food stand, the service was nothing to shout about but they made the pasta really fast and the portions are enormous. If you are craving mac and cheese you should stop by Quincy Market and find this gem tucked at the end of the line. read more

One of my favorite places in Quincy Market. I think they used to be better than they are now, but they still hold up just fine. The only thing is a few times when I've been lately it seems like they've been rushing to get orders out and haven't gotten the cheese hot enough. Don't get me wrong, it was hot when I got it... for the first few bites until it cooled to luke-warm temperatures. Just not as satisfying. When I used to go a few years ago it was always served piping hot and would stay that way to the last bites. Cheap, freshly melted mac and cheese. Portions are good, I'd say a small is just fine for most people because it's really filling stuff. You could even split it if you were going to get something else. A large is good to split between two people, or for one if you have a truly massive appetite. read more

There are a ton of choices in Quincy Market, and sometimes it can be hard to decide what is worth fighting through a crowd of tourists for. Since first trying the mac and cheese at MMMac and Cheese a couple of years ago, I make it easy on myself and just head straight here on the rare occasion that I am eating in Faneuil Hall. They make each serving individually after you order, so you know it's fresh. It is very cheesy and very rich and it's hard to finish even a small serving in one sitting. The mac and cheese with bacon comes with a ton of bacon and might just be a little too much fatty goodness. When I was here the other week I had to take half of my portion home with me, and it tasted almost as good the next day reheated. In short, if you don't feel like pushing through a crowd to look at the menu at every place in Quincy Market, just head straight here. You'll leave satisfied! read more
