I'd think twice if you value your time. I called the location and was told they could resurface my…read morebrake rotors and that it would take about 90 mins. A half hour later, I showed up, dropped off my rotors and was told they needed to measure my rotor thickness to make sure they're serviceable. That takes a couple mins with a micrometer. I was told to expect a phone call in the next 20-30 mins. 90 mins later, I called and nobody has had a chance to look at them yet, but the tech was going to look right now and to expect a call back in 5 mins. An hour later, I showed up and the guy at the counter said they were serviceable but nobody has started in them yet. I collected my parts, went next door to the parts store and got new rotors. I gave them half the day and couldn't wait any longer because I had things to do. I definitely won't be back.

I have used Optima 75 batteries in my cars for years (RX7 and C5 Z06). With the advent of COVID my…read morebattery exhibited symptoms of acid stratification, which I fixed by keeping one battery on the bench, which I shook as I walked past it. This generally let me have a functional battery around. But this is a Pep Boys review... I could not get one of my batteries to charge past 6 volts, so I took it down to the Juan Tabo store for exchange. They wanted to attempt to revive it, which I expected, and told me that I would hear in a couple of days... I didn't. So I returned a couple of weeks later, was told that they revived it but it got put on a pallet for disposal, and would only offer a POS house brand battery that barely cranks the car. Why do I feel like there's a very happy employee out the with a nice Optima battery in their car. Anyway, as you may gather, this is no longer my go to shop.

Going in for synthetic oil changes and being charged 4x's more than quoted specials + coupons. I am so tired of trying to understand their invoicing. And, now I have had it and I vow NEVER TO RETURN. Case in point, They had a March oil change special advertised at $49.99 "$49.99 Healthy Car Special includes: * Full synthetic oil change up to 5 quarts * Free tire rotation * Free alignment check * Free brake check * Free multi-point vehicle inspection * Belts & hoses check * Fluid check * Free windshield wiper fluid top-off* I do get new filters 1 x per year. So how much did my oil change actually cost? $150 plus change === and this is with a supposed $80 discount. Ironically, when I compare this year's oil change to my last one, I was charged $44 for "labor" this year - whereas last year's oil change was $177 with discounts but there was no labor charge. I have my last 2 oil change invoices. They do not do a line by line cost for parts - so I really have no idea what the filters cost. I assume between $50 and $60 each. I lived in Illinois most of my life and had only 2 mechanics. The first one retired and sold his business. The second one, I still call him on occasion for advice. I have been in ABQ 5 years now and still have not found my shop and my mechanic. It is sad and shameful!.

1 Star - Deceptive Practices and Unnecessary Repairs…read more I'm writing this review to warn others about what appears to be a pattern of deceptive behavior at this location. Both a friend of mine and I have had nearly identical experiences that suggest intentional manipulation. A Friend's Experience: My friend brought car in for a routine oil change. The car was NOT leaking oil beforehand. After the service, the service advisor claimed the car had a leaky oil pan gasket, and sure enough, the car was suddenly leaking oil. Suspicious of this convenient timing, my friend took the car to Advantage Automotive for a second opinion. Their mechanic discovered that a plug/screw was simply loose--that was the entire problem. The oil pan gasket was in perfectly good condition. My friend spent hundreds of dollars just to discover that the mechanic misled about needing an expensive repair. My Experience (December 9, 2025): I came in for an oil change. My car had NO oil leaks prior to service. Immediately after the oil change was finished, the service advisor told me I had a leaky oil pan gasket--the exact same claim made to my mother. And just like with her car, I found fresh oil stains in my garage that hadn't been there before. The service advisor also claimed I needed a new battery, despite my battery being under 5 years old, functioning perfectly, and showing no physical signs of damage or corrosion. *Update* I had the battery's condition verified by an AutoZone employee - the battery is fine (hadn't been giving me issues at all also). Secondly, engine's oil level is just above the hot end and, after a few days, is not leaking any oil. I think my oil pan was just overfilled. The Pattern is Clear: When the same shop makes the same dubious diagnosis to two people after services where the problem didn't exist beforehand, it's not coincidence--it's a business model. It appears this location may be deliberately creating or misrepresenting problems to generate unnecessary repair business. I cannot recommend this shop to anyone. If you do go here, get a second opinion before authorizing any work beyond what you originally requested. Better yet, find an honest mechanic who won't manufacture problems that don't exist.
