1 Star - Deceptive Practices and Unnecessary Repairs I'm writing this review to warn others about what appears to be a pattern of deceptive behavior at this location. Both a friend of mine and I have had nearly identical experiences that suggest intentional manipulation. A Friend's Experience: My friend brought car in for a routine oil change. The car was NOT leaking oil beforehand. After the service, the service advisor claimed the car had a leaky oil pan gasket, and sure enough, the car was suddenly leaking oil. Suspicious of this convenient timing, my friend took the car to Advantage Automotive for a second opinion. Their mechanic discovered that a plug/screw was simply loose--that was the entire problem. The oil pan gasket was in perfectly good condition. My friend spent hundreds of dollars just to discover that the mechanic misled about needing an expensive repair. My Experience (December 9, 2025): I came in for an oil change. My car had NO oil leaks prior to service. Immediately after the oil change was finished, the service advisor told me I had a leaky oil pan gasket--the exact same claim made to my mother. And just like with her car, I found fresh oil stains in my garage that hadn't been there before. The service advisor also claimed I needed a new battery, despite my battery being under 5 years old, functioning perfectly, and showing no physical signs of damage or corrosion. *Update* I had the battery's condition verified by an AutoZone employee - the battery is fine (hadn't been giving me issues at all also). Secondly, engine's oil level is just above the hot end and, after a few days, is not leaking any oil. I think my oil pan was just overfilled. The Pattern is Clear: When the same shop makes the same dubious diagnosis to two people after services where the problem didn't exist beforehand, it's not coincidence--it's a business model. It appears this location may be deliberately creating or misrepresenting problems to generate unnecessary repair business. I cannot recommend this shop to anyone. If you do go here, get a second opinion before authorizing any work beyond what you originally requested. Better yet, find an honest mechanic who won't manufacture problems that don't exist. read more

CS owner! no name or contact info? your price gouging is nutts! i have had multiple quotes on this vehicle , then they tried to sell me stuff i didnt need! WHY?? these pads cost 50 to at most 100 for ceramic brakes, turning rotors is minimal. you want to charge 350 minimum on this job for rear pads?? WOW! shady practices when others NEVER stated we needed shocks, oil change. rude upselling practices as stated in many previous customer experiences!! read more

This place should be shut down today. A total dump. Dirty and unprofessional. Went in for $200 phone quote for two brake pads on rear wheels. Told there was $1020 worth of stuff that needed to be done to my truck. Also told pads would take 1 hr., 20 minutes to install. Four hours later I drive out of the place. Two of those hours my truck is the only vehicle being worked on. 5 mechanics, 1 manager sitting on his arse looking at his cell phone the entire time. All workers talking and laughing, eating burritos and smoking. Grease all over the inside of my truck. They had my hood open as part of their bumper-to-bumper inspection...removed my wipers for some reason and did not reinstall correctly. Fell off on the way home in the train. This place is a s hole. Absolutely hands down the best Auto repair place in Albuquerque. Never had to come back unless a part was defective, never had a problem and the prices have always been reasonable. I have returned for service EVERY single time I need anything for my Isuzu. They have never let me down and often find a way to save me money. Visited dealership for the maintenance and their technician noticed oil pan to have stripped threads upon drain plug removal. When I check the record, it was this Brake Masters where I got last oil change done. Simple oil change that now costed me around $500 to replace the oil pan for my car engine. I recommend other oil change specialist unless willing to take risk of car part damage. read more

BrakeMasters is trash. I paid 1450 for my struts to be done. Not only did the car ride worse, the tires are wearing down, and every bump I roll over, the car sounds like it's about to fall apart. They keep giving me quotes for other thing like my ac, and fuel injection cleanse. Just because I have money doesn't mean I want to be robbed......smh!!! read more

I bought new tires from Discount Tire on Saturday and they recommended I get an alignment to get the best life from my tires. I downloaded a coupon for Brake Masters and scheduled an appointment. They said it wouldn't help because I needed new cam bolts which would cost $135 for 2 bolts (which are $25 for 2 at Auto Zone) plus $109 labor!! Plus the cost of the alignment. I thought this was a little outrageous so I called my regular mechanic and he said NO DON'T PAY FOR THAT!! I went to a another tire company and they quoted me $60 per side (labor included) I will not consider using one of their "coupons " ever again because they are WAY overpriced on all of their other parts and services. Took vehicle to 2900 Coors. Under new management. Asked for oil change. Sat for 2.5 hours. They never checked air filters or brakes and gave me a paper saying they did. I demanded they put new air filters in and was told the cabin air filter was missing and I had oil leaks and need back brakes. I was givenn an estimate of $555.xx for air filters and back breaks. However i would have to go to another Brake Masters to get the oil leaks fixed. I said fix the brakes and put in the air filters. Within 3 minutes i changed my mind and said just get my SUV down because the other brake masters said they could only fix it that afternoon. I waited 25 minutes for them to take the car down. Upon arriving at the San Mateo Brake Masters i was told it would cost an extra $100 for the brakes and air filters. When i questioned it...Christian said it was the cost of the air filters. Not so. But now I find they lie. Count...lied about checking brakes, and air filters. The lie about the $100 difference. The lack of knowledge between several oil leaks and a transmission leak. Had to leave town so got the air filters and brakes. Will I come back...NOT ON YOUR LIFE. Who wants to work with liars. I could have been in a terrible accident if my brakes had not worked. The Brake Masters on Coors gave me a better price because I had housed them so much. read more

I received two coupons for service one for a 24.95 full service oil change and one for 129.99 transmission fluid service. Louise told me I had to schedule an appointment to get my truck serviced. I took it back the next day at the scheduled appointment time. 1:30 I presented my coupons and left my truck for service. At 4:10 Jain called me told me my brakes are bad and it's 869.00 to fix them. And that the transmission fluid is low so they didn't change it. I asked them if I needed to put a quart in it so they will do the service. He told me he thought it was leaking even though they looked for a leak and didn't find one. He then agreed to do the service. When Jain produced a bill for 240.00 I asked him about the coupons I left with the manager Louise when I dropped off the truck. He then asked me where they were. After explaining that I presented the coupon at the time of service to Louise he adjusted the price on the oil change to 27.99 not 24.99 and adjusted the transmission service to 133.99 instead of 129.99. Hazardous fee of $6.50 shop supplies of $9.26 I feel that I was over charged, and treated badly as a customer. I would not recommend doing business with this company based on my experience here. The greasy hand prints on my hood and both fenders gives me no confidence of the management or training of the employees here. I am very unsatisfied with the customer service I received from this company and this location. I deserve to be treated better and so does my truck. read more

Hector at Brake Masters is fantastic. Last week I went to Jiffy Lube for a brake inspection and they gave me a laundry list of services my car needed to total more than $600. After speaking to Brake Masters I brought my car in for a second opinion. Vince got me checked in and was kind enough to explain a few things to me. In thirty minutes Hector advised me that actually the services that I came in for were not needed. If it wasn't for Hector I would have spent $600 at Jiffy Lube for work that I didn't even need. Worst service.....left vehicle in morning, was told 2hr wait, go back in afternoon and vehicle was not even touched. They said I was 2nd in line, they close at 5:30 and it was 2:30........then he's telling me to make an appointment after he's already wasted my time. So I went to Meineke who took me right away. Edit: within 24 hours the manager, Diego, had taken ownership of the problem. Research demonstrated that the cutoff was 2014, not 2013 like my vehicle. He brought me back into the business to correct the problem, and honored the original coupon that the front desk staff had not wanted to. Great manager, front desk needs some remedial training. Today it was time for my regular oil change. I checked my email and was delighted to discover an oil change from this Brake Masters for only 15.95. I printed the offer and was on my way. At the business, the front desk staff were uneasy about honoring the offer. They fetched a manager, who came up with a convoluted story about how my vehicle required a special blend of synthetic oil. I asked why, then, I had never received this synthetic oil in my 3 previous oil changes. There was no answer. This leads me to two potential conclusions: 1. The business was uncomfortable with honoring the coupon that their marketing department generated, and invented a cock-and-bull story about this "required" synthetic...or... 2. My vehicle actually requires a special synthetic blend, which their staff has been merrily ignoring for the past year. Either way, I recommend you give them a pass. A shame, really - I had referred friends and family to them and am now going to have to rescind my recommendations. read more

They have the most awful service I was here for 2 1/2 hours for an oil change and then they broke my wheel lock and then tell me it's old

Last week I went to Brake Masters to get my oil changed. I arrived and went up to the desk. The man there was professional. I gave him the key and waited. I noticed the oil change was taking a while so I walked outside to see how it was going. Then I see one of the technicians using a cold chisel and a hammer trying to remove the drain plug. While using the chisel and hammer my oil pan was dented and damaged. The manager came over to speak with me. The manager was professional, however, he was not quite as kind as his front desk associate. Also I got the impression that I may have never been informed about this if I did not walk outside. However, that is just speculation. In the end the manager replaced the oil pan and covered the costs for new front brakes. The manager covered nearly 800 dollars for the damage they caused and end some. Customer care is not all about smiles and pleasantries. They put their money where their mouth is and proved to me that they do actually care. I may suggest to the manager that his techs get some more training. This was not the first time his techs had a problem with my oil plug. So my final word would have to be that they that they made a mistake, but they did the honest thing and made their mistake right. read more

I went in on the 1st of April because I put in new shocks, ball joints and the upper control arms. I wanted to make sure the alignment was correct. When I brought it in, there was no issue with the steering pulling. I wanted to make sure the camber was ok. The tires are only 2 years old. I have a 2000 Dodge Durango SLT 4x4. I noticed when I left the steering was now pulling to the right. I went back in on the 20th (My aunt was in the hospital and passed away, so couldn't get back in right away.) When I spoke to the tech, he said it would be a couple of hours, then said it would be another hour for labor. I told him I could wait another hour. When completed service, the steering was now pulling to the left. They also said they would be charging me for the additional hour, after the initial quote. I argued with them on the charge, and they agreed to remove the fee. When I got in my car there was grease all over the steering, outside door, inside the door handle and on the entire door area near the window, hood, front bumpers lower and upper. Just really shoddy service! I was livid! They were not professional at all and could care less on the service performed. I've contacted customer service, but still have not received a call back on their 800#. The front manager, Cisco gave me the number, 800-888-5545 and the Store Manager, Christian Jacques - 296-9000. No one has yet returned my calls. I would not recommend this location at all when it comes to any repairs needed. They don't know what they are doing and will cause further damage! my niece made an appt. with brake masters 3920 las estancias ct sw. i told her to wait let me do some research. i called this location and they quoted me the same as they told her. i was excited! roters $90 each she needed 2. brake pads $189. front and $189 for the back. they charged her $180 for each roter after quoting $90. i called another brake master and asked for a quote on roters they said $90!!! 26 year old single girl!! got a quote for $558 plus tax ended up with an invoice of $801.25!! all her income tax gone because these predators know how to spot desperate single girls!!! i spoke to christian (mgr) and he justified everything he talked her into! a brake fluid flush? $83.45? remove and replace evap purge control $228.95?? and car is still having problems starting after gassing up! and what is a $30 surcharge each for lifetime warranty??? they even charged for shop supplies??? $14.34!! these people are evil to do this to a young girl with 3 kids to take care of!! they make it read more

Came here to have my brakes checked and an oil change and they gave their special which included wiper blades. They didn't have wiper blades that fit my car so they wanted to give me a fuel additive instead. I told them no because I'm afraid to ruin my engine. THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME A BREAK ON THE PRICE!!! They still charged me full price even though I didn't get the wiper blades that were supposed to be part of the special. Take your car someplace else, this place will rip you off! read more

Please save yourself time, aggravation and money and avoid this shop. They were going to charge me over 350.00 to fix problems with my brakes that they had supposedly fixed 5 months before. They chose to blame the struts on the vehicle rather than take responsibility for their faulty installation (put no lubricant/grease between the brake pads which caused the rotors to heat up and warp) or their poorly made parts. I'm giving it one star only because I can't do zero. We took our 2000 ford ranger in for a simple oil change yesterday and these idiots managed to put windshield wiper fluid in our coolant reservoir and either were to stupid to notice or just didn't want to tell us. We are on a cross country road trip and we drove many miles on it only to have the engine faulter and then refuse to start this morning. We had to have it towed to a shop to find it out and the resulting damage is upwards of $300. All because we decide to take our problem less car into this shop. The shop owner was rude when confronted and offered us nothing to reconcile the problem. So thanks Brake Masters for leaving us stranded over 1300 miles away from home in return for our business. read more

So it's been a long time since I've been this angry. Either this place is the biggest bunch of stereotypical scammers, who think just because I'm a woman, I'll believe what they tell me about my car...OR...they are the most INCOMPETENT group of mechanics out there. Either way, here's what happened. I brought in my car because I felt some vibration at high speeds and thought, with previous experience with same issue, it was either tire balancing or alignment off. They took it for test drive and put it on the lift and tried to tell me my SHOCKS were bad (at 36,000 miles), though NOT leaking and the SHOCKS have caused my tires to "cup" (become bumpy and uneven)...to the tune of an $800 estimate. First off, if it WAS my shocks, they knew my car only had 36,000 miles on it and should be covered by my warranty (Hyundai is 60,000 bumper-to-bumper and 100K drivetrain), and should have ethically suggested I try that route before giving me an $800 estimate. So I took it to the dealer, thinking it was shocks and it would be covered. Hyundai told me the truth was the tires (replacement ones last year) were crap and the TIRES were the issue, the shocks were fine. So, needless to say, I will NEVER go to Brake Masters again and highly recommend you do not. read more
