REMOTE STARTERS for older AUDI's I searched high and low for info on a remote starter for my B8.5 Audi RS5 (2014 V8 coupe) and found a lot of varying opinions and confusing comments. Most people swore you had to lose a key (read $300-600 extra expense) but others claimed not to lose a key. After personally messaging those who didn't lose a key I did some more research on-line and found... a local installer, Mobile Systems LLC of St. Charles, Illinois and talked to the owner, Jim, who confirmed he could and had installed remote starters in B8's without losing a key. There were a few options, but we went with the Fortin EVO-ONE (and their T-harness) connected to a Viper SmartStart app so I can avoid a fob or having to reach for my Audi key and have limitless range. Jim was flexible, understanding, and willing to answer all my many, many questions. I now can un-lock, lock, or start my car from anywhere (as long as I have wifi or LTE). I kept both my keys and am very happy. Only feature I lost is that if I use the remote start I then have to actually push the unlock button on my Audi key to get in as I approach, whereas before I could keep the Audi key in my pocket and unlock the door by grabbing the handle. I find this a small inconvenience to pay for security and a warm car in Chicago winters. The Viper app does require a subscription since it relies on an LTE service but has price rages/options ($6 or $10/month), with the basic service being free for a year. You can avoid a subscription if you don't mind using a fob or your Audi key but being limited by range. I went with the Viper app because it gives me a lot more feedback/options (yes, its started and running for x:xx minutes more; GPS tracking; and even scheduled start ups) and I can start the car from anywhere. I'd just like to say living in Florida and back, the system still works as it did day one. The custom enclosure has held up well too. A couple years ago, the sound did seem bias to one side. I brought it in, and they determined one of my smaller stock tweeter speakers ended up dying. They fixed it, at no charge! Sometimes it's not the easy efficient jobs that earn great reviews--my car stereo had a series of issues (unforseen and out of their control) during the install and post install that required a return visit to correct. About two weeks ago I brought my brand new Acura MDX to this shop. I had them install two subs and an amp I had installed in a previous vehicle as well as a series of LED lights with a kill switch and a radar detector. Dino was the installer and he did a superb job. Not only did he do everything I wanted, but he had some of his own ideas he went through with me to make the LED's look even better. I took both of my vehicles here. My wife's lexus needed the speakrers rebuilt because they were just worn out and because its a lexus, you call around you get in the 1000's of dollars. These guys removed them, send back for reconing, or whatever they do for speakers and put them in, made everything look nice and sound fantastic and didn't charge me a penny over the estimate. My other vehicle is an old 4 runner I drive mostly back and forth to menards and home depot (i'm on 2 wheels the rest of the time). The audio just sucked and I wanted to make sure I could be hands free for the phone apparently in 1996 this was not a concern. They installed a new alpine deck and it made a ton of difference, I can connect via bluetooth and they had to show me where the mic was because I couldn't see it or find it. again, great work and not 1 cent over the estimate. I wonder why all my settings on my amp were maxed out as well, any reason that it was set that way? Sounded like shit set the way it was and you heard it too but did nothing to adjust the setting. Wish I could give 10 stars! Wow, so professional and honest, very rare these days! The tailgate LED strip that came with my Escalade was not working on the right hand side. I bought a new strip on Amazon and asked Jim to remove the existing strip and replace it with the new one. He took a look at it, and determined the existing strip is fine, only a few wires were corroded, otherwise, the strip is fine. I want to give this place more stars, but they will have to step up their customer service in the future for me. FYI this place is a 1 hour roundtrip for me. When I initially called to get an estimate, I gave them all the details- I wanted to install a viper 5706v remote start and alarm in my 2011 camry. Nick said the installation fee would be $175-200 + a $75 bypass module. When I called to book the appt, I said "I got an estimate for my 2011 camry for a viper 5706v remote start and alarm and I wanted to confirm the estimate." Nick said "What was the estimate?" I told him $175-200 for installation and $75 for module." He said "Yep that's right." So then I started the process of booking the appointment with them. He told me the final price was $200 for installation and $75 for the module. I agreed and hung up. Later, I called back and asked what made him say $200 when earlier, him and someone else said $175-200. Jim answered this time and said it's $200 because of the alarm. I felt the first 2 "estimates" were misleading because I had told them exactly what model the Viper was and I told them there was an alarm system as well. They even told me they sell those models and install those all the time. So they knew about the alarm when they gave me the $175-200 estimate and they knew exactly what model my car was. Anyway, on the phone, I asked for an estimate of time and they said it would take about 4-6 hours. I booked 2 appointments for 2 cars, 3 weeks in advance. I bring in my first car at 10:00am- opening time. At the counter, I ask about how long it might take. The guy told me about 2-4 hours and that they would call me when it was ready. At 5:10pm (7 hours later), I called and asked if my car was ready yet. The guy told me they were finishing up and that it was pretty much ready. I drive my 30 minutes to get it and the transaction goes smoothly. I had no idea what the two remotes did or how they worked- I asked a few questions and Nick answered but I would have liked him to have told me what all the buttons do or ask if I had any questions about my new product. Then I asked him how long my car would stay on for before it turned itself off. He said 24 minutes. I asked if it could be lowered and he said it could be lowered to 12. I asked how long it would take and he said maybe an hour. So I asked if I could just bring it in on Monday with my other car and he said yes. I show up on Monday at 10:00am to drop off my other car. There are two customers ahead of me- so clearly, since it's opening time, they are busy. I ask them how long it might take for installation. The guy said "It might not be ready until 6:00pm today. We've got a lot to do."Then I asked if they could switch my previously installed system to shut off after 12 min, instead of 24. They said ok and they did it in like 2 minutes. I asked if they could change the time on my remote and the guy said to look it up in the owner's manual. What? I started driving away and then I immediately called them and talk to Jim and say "The dashboard says there is low tire pressure, can you guys please pump air in them?" and he said "Yes, I'll have my guy pump the tires for you." I get a phone call at 5:48pm from them, telling me there's software that needs to be installed with my system but that the software company's website was down and had been all day. I told him to keep me updated. At 8:30pm (10.5 hours later), I get a call saying they will be done with my car in 20-30 minutes. While I'm on my way, I call them back and ask if the tires were filled. Nick said no and that he did not know I had asked earlier so he said he would have someone do it before I got there. They pulled up my car shortly after I arrived at their office and finished paying. As I was driving away, I realized the key charger was missing. I call back and tell Nick. He tells me it should be in the car and I said it was not. Then he said "Oh, I have it right here with me" and I said "Ok I will come back and pick it up" and he said "Ok, I will leave it on the ledge next to the door for you." Then I drive back, go inside, take it off of the ledge (there is no one at the desk), and leave. There was absolutely no apology. Overall, I think this Company has really great prices and probably good installation. I say probably because I've only had my new installation for a few days (2 days for 1 car and a few hours for the other), but I THINK everything works fine so far. I haven't tested everything yet. I think the employees are nice on the phone and in person, but as you can see from my experience, they don't provide the best customer service and time estimates. It looked like they were super busy which is understandable, but they should at least apologize. I would have appreciated an apology for anything that happened. Thankfully, I took work off these few days so I have the time to sit around and wait. But if I was on a normal work schedule, I would not have been as passive aggressive. read more

Had a problem with older '00 Acura TL High Intensity Discharge (HID) system. Called and spoke with Jim. He gave estimate over the phone to replace ballast and a slightly higher but very reasonable estimate to remove the whole front bumper cover if that was needed. He did have to remove the bumper cover, but they stuck to the lower estimate. I gave them the replacement (used) ballast. The problem re-appeared and we suspected the used ballast I had given them was also not good (lesson: buy new parts!). This was completely on me, as I had supplied the parts. Jim had the crew re-do the job the following at no charge with a new ballast because he wasn't confident the problem was fixed properly in the first. place. This did fix the problem HID light. Very rare to find a very reasonable and fair auto shop - but Mobile Systems is one! Highly recommended. read more

I found Mobile Systems through the Escort Radar website as I was looking to install an Escort 9500ci radar detector. I live in East Peoria, IL which is about 2.5 hours away. I contacted ALL of the Escort Radar and Beltronics dealers within an hour radius but they did not inspire confidence. I also desperately contacted local remote starter installers, but they lacked the experience that I was seeking. Dino, Donnie, Jim, and Nick at Mobile Systems have done a wonderful job installing radar detectors in my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2015 Audi Q7. If you talk to them or look at their photo gallery, then you will see that have signficant experience in high end vehicles which put me at ease. They also installed USB ports for me. The reviews from Yelp and other sites led me to Mobile Systems for a remote starter on my wife's Mazda3. Mobile Systems was the lowest price of three places I quoted. I scheduled the installation in early November, and the wait list was already booked through mid December; which was when my Mazda went in for installation. I met Jim and Nick, and they were professional and courteous throughout my visit. I arrived shortly after opening on the day of my appointment. They were already behind by three hours due to work on two cars ahead of mine. I dropped off my car at 10:30am but returned to the shop around their normal closing time of 2pm. When I returned there was still one car ahead of mine. I was content with returning another day, but Jim said he'll finish my car since I'm already there. I wasn't expecting that, and he was very apologetic for making me wait that he even bought me a drink from Starbucks next door. I sipped on the coffee he comped me and watched cable TV in the showroom while I waited. He even took off $25 off of the total due since I waited for so long. Waiting didn't bother me since I had nowhere else to be (my wife dropped me off and we live 40 minutes away from the shop), and I didn't want Best Buy working on this installation. I was appreciative that he stayed past his normal hours to finish the work. Jim went in great detail explaining why he was behind. He was not obligated to explain anything, but he did so out of integrity. I understand that incidentals occur throughout the day, so you just deal with them as they come. The installation went without a hitch. Once my car was in the shop it took only one hour to install, program, and test everything. By the time everything was buttoned up, he showed me how the system worked. Jim and I squared the transaction and he offered to contact him or Nick any time I have questions or concerns. When I drove off, it was 3.5 hours past the normal closing time. I was not charged overtime or wasn't given a hard time for waiting while the work was being completed. In conclusion, I'm glad for having Mobile Systems install the remote starter. And when I have future needs for automobile electronics, I will not look elsewhere and have Mobile Systems do the work. One note to those planning to visit Mobile Systems: the actual shop location is not visible from Main St. From Main Street you'll see a Physician's Express on the east-end unit of the complex. I asked for quotes from a couple companies on remotes starts installs in the area. I also needed to troubleshoot the audio system speakers in my car. It got the sense from the other companies they did not want to deal with me. One company in particular was very stern in that I either get a complete audio system from them or else I need to return it back to the dealership. It was either all or nothing. I find it interesting that the location of the other business who gave me the highest quote, and was the most resistant, was in a prime location with lots of traffic to make their company stand out, I didn't see one customer. It was dead. When I called mobile systems it took me some times to figure out how to get into this location. Its tucked back behind the strip-mall and all the traffic. I was impressed when I walk in and met the owner because he was busy. He was being pulled in five different directions but still stopped to be attentive and patient with me. There was not one ounce of resistance at all, in fact he came up with multiple extremely inexpensive solutions to troubleshoot my concerns. I have a 2004 M3 and wanted to get a modern stereo installed in the car, Bluetooth for phone and to play music. Had to have an install that does not modify the dash at all, must be able to be put back as original with original radio in the future. So, Jim ordered a Kenwood radio, they installed in in a couple of hours. Well, the glare (due to the angle in the dash relative to the driver) was so bad with the sun out (not directly on the radio, just bright) I could not read the display at all. At night it was fine but on the brightest setting not as bright as other lights or the dash. So, no problem Jim said and he ordered me another radio, a Sony. Don installed it and another really nice job was done. I can read the radio panel easily now. It was a great experience, they were really helpful and Jim (owner) offered to replace the radio).
