Love this place!! There is always consistency with the quality of the food. Everything tastes so fresh, and the meats are always juice and flavorful. The hummus here is one of my favorites ever. I love their tzatziki too. Kebabs come with a hefty portion of rice, and a bread. We usually order from the combos and an additional meet portion from their side options, since the rice and bread are enough for 2 to share. Seating is a bit limited but we have always found a table. I generally like Moby Dick, but this location seems to be on a downhill spiral in recent months. The food freshness is variable and more often than not, I've gotten pita that was rock hard, even after I tried to reheat/soften it. Both dine in and take out orders are often not ready in a timely fashion either, so they either need more staff or a better handle on managing the flow of dine in and to go orders. On my most recent visit, I had to wait almost 20 minutes past the expected order time, meaning they had had nearly 40 minutes to prepare a sandwich. It was not even a busy time of day, but they had upwards of 10 pending orders with service times approaching and exceeding half an hour. I had to chuckle to myself as one of the irate customers dining in complained they had been waiting for over half an hour and this wasn't a five-star restaurant. Even though Moby's has five service ideals including "Order Delivery" and "Going the Extra Mile" this location consistently really drops the (falafel) ball on either of these tenets, so visit at your own risk, of if you have time to spare. read more

Had a recommendation to check out Moby Dick and finally got around to it for lunch today. One awkward thing is the big, digital menu has tiny text, so you need to get up really close to see it. I went simple, spicy chicken kabob with rice. Chicken was great, slightly spicy, but not overwhelming. The rice could use some seasoning, but the two sauces (white and green) were a nice addition. I wish I had more of the green it was so good. Flatbread was just ok. Maybe eaten right away it would have been better, but on the drive home it cooled down and got a little chewy. Filling, but it's a LOT of rice. I'd give some of their other options a try. read more

Moby Dick's never fails when I don't feel like cooking! It is authentic and everything is always freshly made! The salad is always green with crisp veggies & feta! I've tried almost everything from here and love it all! Great source of protein and some veggies! I ordered the family platter and it was huge definitely enough for multiple leftovers! Been here twice this month and the food was impressively fresh and consistent. The meat on the kabobs are juicy and tender. The salad, rice, and bread all taste fresh. Having been to many restaurants in the area that serve nasty, old, low quality food, I absolutely appreciate food that is healthy, tastes fresh and is of decent quality without being too expensive. I actually came to Moby Dick after a friend recommended another kabob place that is in Springfield. That place was disgusting. The meat tasted like it was from the day before - dry with texture like cardboard. The lamb had a nauseating smell that I wanted to throw up on my way home smelling the food in the passenger seat. The portions were also smaller and it was the same price. And guess what? That place has 4 stars on Yelp! I truly don't understand that, and how Moby Dick only has 3 stars on here. Granted, I'm not that familiar with Persian food so perhaps one place is more authentic than the other, but as someone who simply enjoys fresh, quality food, I will say Moby Dick serves good food. read more

People did line up in their cars outside the restaurant and they had a staff member walk the food outside to their cars. But I just went in to pick up my order inside. Despite there being a huge parking lot and a large garage, because the shopping center that this restaurant is in, Kingstowne, is so crowded and so busy, it took me an oddly long time to find parking. There's a movie theater here, big box stores, Chipotle, Noodles & Co., and many, many other stores and restaurants, and people walking, driving, pushing strollers and carts everywhere! I used to visit this location of Moby Dick House of Kabob all the time when I lived in Alexandria, and I am glad this restaurant still exists. I returned tonight for dinner after doing errands and hanging out with a friend in the area. The interior consists of full booths on the right side, half booths on the left side, and tables and chairs in the center. There's a dedicated area for a line, a soda machine to the right, and a restroom in the far right, beyond the counter and kitchen area. I ordered what I always order---the kabob-e-joojeh plate with rice ($11.12 with tax) and paid with the LevelUp app, which allows me to accumulate loyalty points (spend $100, get $10 toward a free entree). The dish was as delicious as always and as consistent across their various locations and still tastes as it did the first time I had their food maybe a decade ago. The rice was buttery but not overly so; the chicken breast was juicy, well-seasoned, and in big chunks; and the side of bread and tangy yogurt on the side complemented the meal well. I added an inordinate amount of their delicious sumac powder available on every table in shaker. From ordering to when my buzzer went off, it took 15 minutes. The restaurant was moderately busy (about 30% full) around 7 pm. The service was pleasant and professional. If I'm back in the area, I'd suggest eating here for a fast casual meal. Apparently Moby Dick is now franchising, or maybe they've been doing it but have now sold to the wrong somebody. Been eating at various locations for 20+ years, starting with their Georgetown store. First time here though. The staff here is Hispanic, which is fine as long as they can cook the food Mediterranean/Persian style. The food looks the same, sure....just like the pics - but the taste is off. The basmati rice is undercooked/crunchy/underseasoned and mostly white now vs the equal amounts of yellow grain that came (presumably) from saffron. You can now almost COUNT the saffron grains here. The beef is off too. Not nearly as well seasoned as other locations. I don't know if a tandoori oven is or was ever being used but whatever is being used now ain't right. This is NOT the Moby I know and love. These folks are cutting corners...or perhaps not adhering to established standards.... and it's being reflected in the product produced. The joint was empty this afternoon and I'm not surprised. Quality Control standards are tantamount if you're going to franchise - or - whatever is going on here - such that you don't alienate long time customers like me or even novices looking to enjoy PERSIAN cuisine. Service is still good but if the food doesn't return to normal - fast, this location won't last very much longer. Heading to Georgetown next time I'm in the mood for Moby. We picked up from Moby Dick's and were soo happy with the food. This is our comfort restaurant whenever we don't know where to eat / want to eat quality food. This location made our food fresh and it was the perfect temperature to enjoy at home. There is dine-in and the register/kitchen side has a protective barrier to maintain covid safety. We always get the family platter and it lasts us... a few meals for us two. We ordered on location and the food didn't take very long. I would rather order there rather than pre-ordering. I know this could cause a bit of inconvenience, but the meats are so good when everything is still warm. Parking is easy and there is a pick-up lane if you do happen to order ahead. read more

I've been to this branch too many times to count, and I went there for lunch today. The people are friendly and provide fast service. The food is consistently good. I've sampled just about everything from the various "sandwiches" and platters, to the baklava, and have been happy with my food. My fave is still the chicken platter with rice and, of course, the pita with hummus. My platter was as expected. The chicken was seasoned/marinated well, the tomatoes were delish (which I mush into the rice), and the pita was fab. Nom, nom, nom. Reluctantly, I have to admit that on TWO occasions, the food was not prepared in the way I expect from them. Come to think of it, I think both of those times have been on a weekend. On those occasions, the meat was under seasoned and overcooked, and the pita was on the charred side. Again, other than those 2 out of millions (ok, maybe not that many) visits, I have not been disappointed. For a while, this was the at-least-once-a-week lunch place. I had to take a break since I like variety, but now I'M BACK!!! The food makes me wish I didn't move from being within walking distance of this place. Grr. read more

My wife and I like this place for kabobs, we especially love the chicken kabobs. The beef kabobs are good too, but their not great, the chicken kabobs are great. We're not big fans of the rice, the rice is a little dry, but when it comes to chicken kabobs, you won't find a better chicken kabobs from another chain kabob restaurant. This location is excellent as well, right in Kingstowne and next to the movie theater. The only problem here is it sometimes takes a while for the food to come out, but when it does, it always comes out hot. Moby Dick's was the vision of Mike Daryoush; starting off as a Mobys' Luncheonette that was struggling, he totally revamped and changed up the all-American fare into a Persian-themed one. There's a good number of locations scattered throughout the DC Metro area. The menu offers appetizers (hummus, dolmas, kashk-o badejmjan, etc.), salads, sandwiches, entrees (kabobs and combos), vegetarian options, and desserts. I usually stick to Moby's Combo II, which is a combination of kubideh (ground sirloin, grated onion, and house seasoning) and joojeh (skinless chunks of boneless chicken breast, marinated in house seasoning); this comes with rice (or, you can opt for a salad) and 1/2 of a pita bread. The rice can be a hit or miss, as sometimes it can be undercooked. I actually prefer the joojeh more than the kubideh, as the chicken is quite juicy, meaty, and has a nice marination-action on it. I like how the meats are nicely grilled, too. I usually stick with their yogurt cucumber sauce (don't be shy in asking for extras!), as it is a nice compliment to the meats - you can also add some hot sauce, if you want to spice it up! To sum up my experience: I ordered the kubideh rice platter which comes with salad and rice, while my boyfriend ordered the kubideh sandwich, with hummus to start. The hummus, which came with pita bread, was tasteless and watery. The kubideh meat was undercooked, even though it took awhile for our order to be called out. The salad dressing also had way too much vinegar -- but then again, I'm not a fan of 90% vinegar dressing. The only tasteful thing here was the tzatziki sauce, which I doused on top of the rice. I definitely prefer Grill Kabob in Tyson's and Food Corner Kabob in Springfield over Moby Dick's... I doubt I will come here again. read more

Came here for dinner with my mom and husband on a Friday night. This Moby Dick's is close to my mom's new condo and since we used to enjoy the Moby Dick's in Fairfax (near her old condo) we decided to check this location out. I loved the fact that it was part of the Kingstowne Center (right next to the movie theater) and that there were lots of cute restaurants and shops to stroll by. We placed our orders at the counter and ordered: Chicken sandwhich (mom), Salmon kabobs (me) and Ground lamb/lamb shank kabob combo (my husband) w/ 2 orders of homemade dough (Persian yoghurt drink). My fish was very good, seared on the outside & moist on the inside, served w/ basmati rice with a hint of butter and a side salad. The dressing they used is to die for... My husbands lamb items were ok, they both could have been seasoned more and juicier...we love lamb so it was a tiny bit dissapointing given that this was a more expensive item on the menu. All items came with a bread basket which came fresh out the oven and warm - very good, we almost filled up on this before our food came out...can't resist fresh bread! My mom enjoyed her sandwich but commented that she wished it had more than just a few chunks of chicken kabob. The homemade dough was bit on the salty side and my mother did not enjoy it, in fact she had an upset stomach all night afterwards... I don't think I would order both the lamb or the homemade dough next time but would come back again for the fish kabobs and fresh bread. Not fabulous. I'm pretty well versed in Kabob, and I was pretty confused about this menu. I walked in after lunch today and there were a few people in line in front of me, but no one behind me, the place was clean, bright and there were a few tables taken with people eating tasty-looking food. I was reviewing the menu board and the guy behind the register was looking impatiently at me while I asked a few questions. He was pretty unhelpful. I had the Kabob-E Barreh, the lamb with rice. the register-guy sent me back to a table with some bread and yogurt sauce. The yogurt sauce was gross... it was missing garlic or some sort of spice. After giving up on that and waiting for what seemed like another 20 minutes they called my number. I got my meal, it was 5 pieces of really charred and overcooked lamb with little to no spice and a TON of rice. It also had two quarters of grilled tomatoes -- they were good. Overall I thought it was a waste of $12. Having seen a few people getting the sandwiches after me, I wish I had ordered that, but I don't think I'll be coming back again to give them a shot. read more

After trying out different Persian/Iranian restaurants, I must say that this place is overpriced for the portions that you're getting! Although the quality of the dishes were pretty good, the prices aren't. My husband and I got the kubideh rice platter and I must say, the portions of the entree was way less than I had expected. My husband also got the infamous Persian tea and it was anywhere between $1-$2 just for a small cup of styrofoam (see photo in comparison to a regular drink cup). At least they provide complementary refills, but c'mon...in a small foam cup. No thanks. The customer service was good, they were friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself was very clean and tidy. And the menu alone was easy to read. I would go to this place again, IF they lowered their prices on the dishes. But, if I were you, I'd continue to do some research if you want to eat affordable, authentic, large portion Persian/Iranian food! read more
