Not fabulous. I'm pretty well versed in Kabob, and I was pretty confused about this menu. I walked in after lunch today and there were a few people in line in front of me, but no one behind me, the place was clean, bright and there were a few tables taken with people eating tasty-looking food. I was reviewing the menu board and the guy behind the register was looking impatiently at me while I asked a few questions. He was pretty unhelpful. I had the Kabob-E Barreh, the lamb with rice. the register-guy sent me back to a table with some bread and yogurt sauce. The yogurt sauce was gross... it was missing garlic or some sort of spice. After giving up on that and waiting for what seemed like another 20 minutes they called my number. I got my meal, it was 5 pieces of really charred and overcooked lamb with little to no spice and a TON of rice. It also had two quarters of grilled tomatoes -- they were good. Overall I thought it was a waste of $12. Having seen a few people getting the sandwiches after me, I wish I had ordered that, but I don't think I'll be coming back again to give them a shot. read more

After trying out different Persian/Iranian restaurants, I must say that this place is overpriced for the portions that you're getting! Although the quality of the dishes were pretty good, the prices aren't. My husband and I got the kubideh rice platter and I must say, the portions of the entree was way less than I had expected. My husband also got the infamous Persian tea and it was anywhere between $1-$2 just for a small cup of styrofoam (see photo in comparison to a regular drink cup). At least they provide complementary refills, but c'mon...in a small foam cup. No thanks. The customer service was good, they were friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself was very clean and tidy. And the menu alone was easy to read. I would go to this place again, IF they lowered their prices on the dishes. But, if I were you, I'd continue to do some research if you want to eat affordable, authentic, large portion Persian/Iranian food! read more

I personally prefer Persian kabobs over Afghan kabobs, so Moby Dick is one of the only cafe-style options now that Duke Kabob has closed. (If anyone else knows good Persian kabob fast-food options, I'm all ears!) I will say their bread is better than most Persian kabob restaurants. Their meats and rice are pretty good - we ordered the kubideh, lamb cubes and boneless chicken family platter combo. It came with three appetizers, and we selected the hummus, eggplant and shirazi. None of the appetizers were very good, which was a shame given the good bread for dipping. Finally, Moby Dick has the most disappointing spicy green sauce I've tried - it had an herbal flavor that was too strong to get past. read more

When I pulled into the Kingstowne center, I was debating getting Chipotle, or trying a new restaurant. I seriously wish I just got Chipotle. I walk in and it's not that busy, so I order a rather expensive chicken pita (nothing else came with it, just the sandwich and two sauces yet it was 7.50, while a chicken bowl at Chipotle that I can't even finish is 7.15). I sit down and wait, for 5 minutes, then 10, then 15....it takes 20 MINUTES to make one sandwich. When I finally get my food, the pita is lukewarm and rubbery,and there's way too much feta and chicken oil/juice dripping everywhere. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't good enough for the price or time I waited, and definitely wasn't big enough for the price. At least the picture looked good. Overall, a complete waste of time and money. I'll never doubt you again Chipotle. read more

We have enjoyed ordering from this place for years so this is not a complaint about the food, which is generally very tasty. But their customer service attitude is poor. I ordered over the phone this evening and then called back a short while later to inquire if I could do curbside pick up because I have a leg injury. The person who answered the phone advised me that that is only available for people who order online. Really? Exactly what is the difference between ordering by phone and paying in advance and ordering online? There is no difference. When I went into the store I told them that I was very disappointed in the customer service. The guy behind the counter told me the woman I spoke to on the phone was going to give me curbside delivery but I hung up before she could say so. My answer to that was, nice try. If you're planning to say yes, don't say no first. Don't tell me the reasons why you can't do it. Just give the customer what they're asking for. In this case, it was a very reasonable request for a service that is apparently available without discussion to people who place their orders online. There are times when placing the order online is not convenient cost, and customers should not be penalized for that. I'm really angry at how they handled this, especially the lame attempt to placate me by saying they were going to do it anyway. Again, if you're going to accommodate the customer, why go through the charade of telling the customer you're not going to do so? read more

Ate dinner there last night with my wife. Overall, very good. I had the chicken and lamb platter while my wife had a chicken pita. Food was tasty, fresh and enjoyable. Good atmosphere, clean restrooms. One ding: not much of a drink selection. (If one is eating Iranian food, there ought to be Chai, right?) read more

Moby Dick's is good for eating once in a blue moon. Get ready for big portions and heavy food! The lamb is good and chicken kabob is really big. The best part is the sauce you can dip all your meat and bread in. I think one entree is fine to share among two people. Again, big portions! read more

Went in yesterday evening for a quick bite, and got my usual the Combo 2. As usual the food was great; but unfortunately the tables were a little dirty and no one behind the counter looked to be in a big rush to do anything about it. The dining room had about 5 or 6 people aside from me and we had to search out clean tables to sit at to eat. I could see this being a problem if a bus load of people came in for food but this wasn't the case. Eventually one of the employees did get to it but it made me think that I gave them a higher rating that I should have when I Yelped about this place. Judging by the fact that there were employees available to do housecleaning and were joking and kidding around when they could clearly see that there were dirty tables and patrons looking for clean tables to sit at.........I'm taking away a star. read more

We had the swordfish for the first time today. A few pieces were dry but a couple were very tender and juicy. The chicken is one of our go to choices. The same thing happened with some pieces being dry and a couple juicy and tender. Fresh warm bread was nice too. Nice to have rolling high chairs available. It's a bit pricey. But I guess that's normal for this type of food. I keep coming back.

I always get food from them 3 meals and sometimes more. Tonight I visited them while we were eating they turn off the lights .We were not the only ones sitting there, there was also a family of 4 there. When the lady on the other table looked at me I said it's rude !! To the cashier she started arguing with me. That's was v rude for regular customer no respect at all, nor customer Service . On the top of that food was not fresh at all when we complained the young lady at the counter said that she doesn't care and she only works til 10 o'clock. I was walking from the ice skating rink and this place looked interesting. I placed my order and found a seat. I had to wait possibly ten minutes for my meal. The meal was cooked very well. The reviews here are pretty honest. The food isn't horrible or anything, but it's definitely not great. It's just average at best. The portion sizes are pretty generous. The sauces are average. The only actually impressively good dish is the chicken kabob. I don't know that I'd actively go back. The food looks better than it tastes. read more

Spicy ground chicken kabob. Do it. It's a spicy party in your mouth. A large party, too, since you get 2 massive logs of kabob goodness. Ordering ahead cuts down on the wait time since it takes awhile unless you don't mind waiting a bit for said party. Something else that's a party pleaser? Their bread. Fresh and fantastic, especially with their yogurt sauce that's worthy of bathing little children in. The chicken (joojeh) is also a fun party goer but I've had less fun with the kubideh and the lamb. Need a quick kabob fix? Come 'n get it here (if you're in the Alexandria, VA area). This is my go-to restaurant when I'm fiend-ing for the grilled goodness of beef, chicken, lamb, fish and veggie kabobs. It's a great location, with the movies nearby, an ice cream place and other eateries in close proximity. In the summer, eating their kabobs at their outdoor seating is the bees knees. As other Yelpers have observed, the food comes out at a pretty leisurely pace. I think when most people come in here and see a setup that conjures up shades of a fast food restaurant, they suddenly expect to get their Moby's Combo II to come out in approximately 30 seconds. Yeah, you should find a seat and park it for a bit, 'cause it'll take a few minutes yet. Once the food is in front of you, though, it makes the wait worth it. You get quite a lot of food. Even a greedy bastuhd like me has a hard time finishing every last morsel. I normally get their Kabob-E Chenjeh, which is marinated tenderloin. I eat it with their basmati rice, which leaves much to be desired, but it'll do in a pinch. The plate will also come with two halves of grilled tomato. I don't know why, but that damn tomato just sets it off for me. I even cut it into small pieces so I can savor every last *wiping drool* bit. read more

I ordered takeout from here a second time even though I can't stand coming here (no parking and the manager is an asshole). I came in and the manager starts barking at me like I'm one of his employees. No greeting, no thank you. I get my takeout and leave. I get home and notice they didn't give me the grape leaves. I check my receipt and I did pay for it. I called the place back and notified them of the error. The manager said he's sorry but didn't offer to do anything to fix the situation. The next day, I went back and showed the receipt and asked for a refund for the $4 for the grape leaves. The manager gave me a weird look and told me he can't give a refund because he already closed out the receipts for the previous day. I told him if he doesn't give me a refund, I'll just call my bank and file a merchant dispute against the credit card charge. He argued with me some more and eventually gave me a refund for the grape leaves, but he said "I'll remember you" whatever that's supposed to mean. Maybe he should try remembering to put the food that I ordered in the takeout bag? So to summarize, I've ordered takeout from here twice, and both times the order was wrong. They have gotten my order wrong 100% of the time. When I pointed out the mistake, the manager did nothing to correct the issue, and then argued and threatened me when I asked for my money back. read more

Stopped by here for a quick bite before catching a movie at the Kingstowne theatre. Gotta say...I was pretty disappointed. The bite ended up having to be a lot quicker because the service was very slow. They only had one order, my order, to work on and after waiting almost 15 minutes, I asked how much longer he would take. He just said, "it's coming very soon." He then turned around and yelled at the cooks, "lamb! lamb!" 30 seconds later, my dish was done. I've a feeling if I'd asked for it 5 minutes earlier, I would've gotten it 5 minutes earlier. So we got the lamb kabobs with rice and although the meat was fairly tender and flavorful, I wasn't impressed. The rice was so buttery I could have been eating soft popcorn. Plus, the sauce didn't have much taste at all. If you want a good kabob place, Kabob Palace is MUCH MUCH better! read more

Very disappointed in the customer service today. We have been long time regulars here at the Springfield location. We usually call in ahead of time and our order is ready to be devoured once we arrive. Apparently the new guy that answered the phone didn't understand that we wanted to order in, and when we arrived the food was boxed to go. We were surprised, but no big deal there. We wanted to simply take it and eat it as it was in the restaurant. The major problem was the fact that the guy wanted to talk back and tell us that next time we need to be more clear, when in fact I had overheard the conversation that we called in advance making sure that our order was for there! He apparently hadn't gone through any sort of customer service apprenticeship but I'm not going to stop there, the manager finally woke up to question what was happening with very little change. Both seemed totally oblivious to the situation that had occurred and needless to say, they didn't even feel the need to apologize to us. Instead they were quick to blame us "the customers" for a mistake they made. This was my weekly kabob place while living in Alexandria, VA. I would go in just to get the chicken and lamb platter with rice with butter on top. You also get pita bread which I never ate because I was always too full. Every week it was a treat to go in order my food sit and stuff my face then leave. It was that plain and simple . One of my favorite kabob places in this area. Never a bad experience here. Food is always made fresh and made to order, portions are always more than generous. I normally get the chicken kabobs which are always flavorful and tender. We've also tried the beef and the lamb. Im not a fan but the boyfriend is. If you want to spice up your kabobs, ask for the green sauce. They have cups by the fountain drink machine if you want some water. There's a pretty decent amount of tables inside for seating and even some tables outside on the patio for nicer days. They call your number for your orders out over an intercom so you'll know when your order is ready. read more

I love their salmon salad. It's my go to place for health take out. Lettuce is fresh and the fish is well seasoned.

Fine, but nothing special, and a little overpriced for what you get. For the money, I much prefer Flame Kabob in Springfield.

I really wasn't terribly impressed by their food or the cost of their food. I've had much better kabob experience at Duke Kabobs for a much better price than Moby Dick's. My nephew likes this place I think because the food is very bland and he's not a fan of spice...where did he come from really?? The baklava was dry as far as baklava goes. Just left me feeling less fulfilled than the happy fuzzies that I usually get when I bite into baklava. I would not avoid this place like I would some places in the Kingstowne area but I'm not rushing to go back there anytime soon. read more

Dear God, whatever you do, don't order take out from this place. I wanted 2 Kubidehs, one chicken and one beef, each $9. After he rings up my card, he puts the receipt down for me to sign and it was $40. I asked why and his response was, it was what you ordered. "No," I said, I ordered 2 Kubidehs one chicken one beef, but you agreed to the price on the phone (with his accent I thought he said $14 not $40). Maybe it's a cultural difference, but I ended up paying for what I didn't order. I said I would pay, but never be back. If you go, pay close attention to what you order and good luck. BTW the food was bland. An Iranian woman I work with said this food was just like home, the customer service must be too. Lesson learned, check this off my restaurants to try. read more
