Amazing food perfect for a breakfast spot. Even for non coffee lovers they have so much to offer. Can be a calm place in the mornings great for studying. Service is quick and straight to the point.

East L.A. Panini with house side salad with balsamic vinaigrette. Good amount of avocado on the sandwich and tasty sauce inside. Really enjoyed lunch. Definitely recommend if you can't decide which to get.

Came for breakfast. Staff was friendly, but we waited awhile for our food & it wasn't very busy. The pancakes were really small and super dense & the bacon had a strange taste. Coffee was good.

The meat is seasoned and hits the spot every time - it doesn't matter what meat you get because it is all great! Tons of variation on their menu. I get the bowls with rice and lettuce a plus every topping under the sun and garlic/harissa sauce. Chicken is great, beef is great, and I could eat their falafel all day. I love getting the bowls with their various pickled veggies for the contrast in tastes. Dolma is delicious, the kebabs are delicious, the fries loaded with deliciousness are in fact delicious, and the prices for all dishes are very reasonable. Food can take a little longer, but only because the food is cooked fresh to order and not sitting in a metal container overcooking. Their pitas are stuffed to a brim with toppings and meat, and I could eat their hummus all day every day. Every time we come to San Marcos I have to try to force myself to try something new - it's hard, but we always find ourselves back at Halal Project happily full every time.

The veggies were, as always, beautiful and fresh. Halfway through I did remark to Mr R that Halal Project definitely has more flavor than Taziki, and he agreed. It did take a little longer than expected (mostly noticeable bc it's a day we had a plane to catch) but not outrageous and the results were indisputably worth it. Love to whoever wrapped these gyros sturdily enough to make eating them in the car NOT a complete disaster; we will continue to enjoy this local delight.

Beware of the "5 Star" Reviews…read more Offering free drinks/apps in exchange. I do want to point out that I never submit reviews. Went in and sat down quick, yet the food took over an hour. We sat, ordered drinks along with the food when we got there. After we realized the people around us that arrived significantly later were already paying to leave, we got up to ask about our food as it had easily been 40 minutes. Got told it would be a couple of minutes, gave us waters. Mind you, we are now over an hour into waiting. Food started to roll out and we kept getting offered free chips in the meantime- sorry but this solves the situation how? We are now going to be full of chips and not food. 2 of the meals still took an extra 20 min after the majority rolled out and of course, my parents' food came out COLD. What were we waiting for on this exactly? A lady, who I am assuming is the manager, came to apologize, told us she would remove the 2 items from the ticket. We were understanding. However, she then admitted they dropped the ball- this is where this place really lost us. She stated that they tried to reheat the plates and just pass it as "fresh." Thank you for finally being honest but this truly just gave me a bad image of management. I felt like they just threw the team under the bus. We asked for the check and when we asked if she did comp the 2 plates, she gave an attitude responding, "I did, I fixed it" and then proceeded to send someone else to check us out. That is not how you manage or take ownership. As a manager myself, you take care of the person full on through to try and turn the situation around. Had she done that or had the staff communicated that they messed up when we had initially asked, we would've been completely fine instead all that happened here. We were in there for about 2.5 hours. Unfortunately left disappointed due to the good reviews we initially saw.

The only bit of feedback I would give to management is to replace the cactus plant with something that doesn't have little pokies, sadly my wife brushed her arm past it and we ended up going on a 45 minute quest to get all of the little cactus pins out :( The plant was also in a broken ceramic pot- broken ceramic is potentially as sharp or sharper than a razor, and I wouldn't want anyone to hurt themselves badly! He reports the staff were friendly, and I can tell you the food was delicious. I had the samosas and a mango lassi, he had palak paneer India hot. Despite riding in a car's full blast AC and then being plated in a chilly room, our lunch was still piping hot when we sat down to eat. My samosas were full of flavor and the pastry was so flaky and crisp-tender. Came with a shot of sauce: vinegary tang with a little bit of heat. Perfect complimenting tones and amount for the two pieces that come in your order. The mango lassi was wonderful. Generous size and not overly sweet, just what I needed following a night of too many cocktails. Mr R enjoyed his paneer over two servings (his favorite breakfast is leftover Indian food) and I couldn't tell you which serving he enjoyed more. Happy as a puppy both times. As I hoped/expected, Mr R actually said he would not object if we ate here all week. It's not the cheapest and your order will take a minute to be cooked (we happily ran a nearby errand in the wait time which was what you'd expect in a sit-down restaurant where your entree isn't microwaved) but we think the pricing is fair and the provisions are tasty. The location/parking is the biggest drawback; there are picnic tables for you to use but you'll probably have to find parking at the busy convenience store it's parked next to. Again--if you enjoy these regional foods they are worth! it!

She took our drink orders and we decided to start with chips, queso and salsa. After it was served, I had to get up and ask for place settings and two extra plates. There were 5 of us at the table and we only got 3 appetizer plates. I went to the front to ask for service ware and was told we would have to wait. Meanwhile the queso got cold. We finally got silverware and napkins but needed yet another set because there was food still on my fork. Finally tried the queso and the chips were horrible. My friend thought they were left out from the night before, i said the humidity just killed them as for being seasoned as the menu says, they were not. The menu looked great so I was excited when we ordered our entrees. An Eggs Benedict, 2 Megs Pecan Chicken Salad, The Islander and a Grilled Turkey and Tomato. The chicken salad was not chilled, not sure if it had been sitting out for a while, but the mayo was translucent. Overall, not much flavor, on a bed of greens that were difficult to eat because they were so big. There was also ketchup on the edge of my salad bowl. Not sure what others thought, but half of the sandwich was left, along with the Islander salad. I was really looking forward to trying this place out. If they were overwhelmed from the front of the house to the back, it showed. I will try this place again when its not such a busy weekend.
