Mochas & Javas has been a part of the San Marcos coffee infrastructure for a long time. My sorority used to meet on the Texas State University campus and this coffee shop was one of our "go to" places. Ironically, we were on the campus of Texas State university today for another reason and the car stopped at Mochas & Javas. It is definitely a "go to" spot for students, locals, and visitors. The back story...Kevin Carswell founded Mochas & Javas 2003 and the very first two San Marcos locations were opened together with his brother, Kirby Carswell, and both of their wives...therefore, truly a family-owned business. The restaurant is large with an open atmosphere created by the tall ceilings and windows. This location can easily be a study location, friend meet up, or where good food and great conversation are needed. Without a doubt the coffee is the highlight at Mochas & Javas. The menu offerings include an assortment of espresso drinks, brewed coffee, cold brew, teas, and seasonal specials. Our personal favorites include the salted caramel mocha and pecan pie latte. Mochas & Javas also have complementary food to accompany the javas. The good news is that breakfast is served all day including pancakes, egg plates, breakfast sandwiches, paninis, salads, and baked goods. I love this places. Lots of cute seating, tasty drinks and food, and delicious vegetarian options. I normally get a Carmel latte and The Classic sandwich. Staff is polite and welcoming. The entry ways and bathrooms are very accessible. Great place to meet with a friend or. just take a moment to treat yourself. I've been in San Marcos for 5 years and Mochas and Javas has been my favorite coffee shop the whole time! The coffee is the best (vanilla latte girl for life) and the fact that you can get an extra shot of espresso for free is amazing. Love their baked goods and their kitchen food is so good. Super fairly priced and great portions. All the people working there are super nice and do a great job of keeping it clean. Also whoever is on aux always has really good, chill playlists that are great for studying. Their wifi strength is awesome so it's nice to work on school assignments here. The only negative is that the outlets are loose so chargers will fall out of the wall. But I usually just fully charge stuff before going because the study vibes are immaculate. Overall can't recommend it enough :) read more

It tasted as if it was made with juice and fruit that sat in a syrup. None of it was fresh. It was so sugary. You'd be better off getting a bag of candy. There were a lot of students here studying. This is my routine coffee shop. It has a comfy vibe, good prices and it's on my walk to campus. They also have a great rewards program that will give you free drinks, and you don't have to give your email address, which I really love considering the amount of spam I already get. Their food menu is also great and offers a healthier selection compared to most of the options around campus. I love their quinoa salad with their in house lemon poppyseed dressing, and their fiesta breakfast plate is delicious too. The customer service has always been great and it's obvious the employees enjoy working there. This review is for mostly for service. On the weekends, this is my #1 spot for breakfast. It's one of the only full-service places that opens early on the weekends (with good coffee). With no customers inside, I waited more than 30 minutes (maybe 45) for food, because of a very large to-go order. I would not have ordered food if the kitchen was slammed. Great coffee shop near campus. Big and many seating options. THE FOOD IS AMAZING. I always get the garden plate for breakfast. A little pricey but so worth it. They do this cool thing with the avocado and make a cool flower design. All their sandwiches are great too. And salads! Stuffed avocado is the best. Also best chicken salad around. Best best best. Morgan was incredibly sweet, explaining drinks and specials to me quite patiently although they were really busy. I really appreciated that as I am not a huge coffee drinker. She was amazing.
