First visit to this location over Peoria and have to say it's worth the drive compared to the other location. Larger restaurant, more colourful and decorated, no sun set burning through the western windows. This location rocks! Mochilero Kitchen offers a fusion mix of many different South American recipes from your usual favourites like Guac and salsa to more adventurous Cuban and other regions bring out fantastic Plantain chips and marinated meats What's also great is that the menu has great fish tacos and flash fried Brussels. Service was extremely quick! Despite happy hour busyness. Quick with water refills, offering more drinks and both locations always bring out the food so quick regardless of being packed

A family member and I decided to grab a quick lunch here after a doctor's appointment in the area. Coincidentally, it was a Tuesday so of course we both had to get tacos! We each got a trio of different tacos with a side of rice and choice of beans, all at a great price of $12.50! For my tacos, I chose the shrimp diablo, carnitas, and the roasted mushrooms. All the tacos were quite loaded. The shrimp diablo had the most kick in flavor, the roasted mushrooms were my second favorite, and the carnitas were just okay. We also ordered the papas pequenas appetizer to share. Unfortunately, this item did not live up to our expectations, it was blander than we thought it would be. Overall, service was kind of lagging and didn't seem to care. We came during prime lunchtime hours and were surprised that we were the only table besides some patrons at the bar. On the other hand, the ambiance was pretty nice, it was comfortable and casual with modern decor throughout.

Wow! This place is delicious! My mom, daughter, and I went for lunch yesterday and loved it! Chips and salsa are tasty and the elote was yummy. My daughter had the crispy potato tacos and wow, they were fabulous. I had a chicken tinga bowl which was huge and delish. My mom loved her breakfast bowl with carne asada. Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday. We are definitely going to be back! Plus they have a happy hour special with two tacos and a beer for $10. Prices and service were great. Overall, a fabulous lunch!

We had a fabulous first time adventure and it won't be our last I love love love Jose, the owner of Chef. We ordered tacos and sat outside in a nice relaxing patio. I really did like my mushroom tacos. I would say they're a little bit too salty, and my husband said his was salty as well but overall, the food and taste was great. It was well lit, clean. The bar was great and they had some upscale tequilas. DOG friendly patio. Jóse (Chef/Owner) Javier (our waiter) Nayelli (hostess) DOG friendly patio. I WOULD RECOMMEND

I was here on a quiet Saturday afternoon. Despite there only being 6 customers total the entire time I was there, I was surprised at how slow and lethargic the service was. Even more surprising is seeing several workers out in the open just staring at their phones doing nothing instead of working. Their main dishes are generally $14-$16. I tried out their churro waffle which was pretty nice and sweet. I also tried out a taco and enchilada. The whole place was clean and the presentation of their food is amazing. It's too bad that the ingredients in things such as their tacos don't match the presentation. The food itself was okay, but not high quality.

Second time here. This time came for brunch. We ordered the Steak Ranchero and mushroom & poblano omelette and two coffees. The omelette was served open face with grilled onions, poblano peppers and mushrooms with a drizzle of cream sauce. very tasty and smoky flavor with mild bite. I really enjoyed this dish and would rate it at least 4.5. The only criticism I would give is that it does not come with any sides so a small amount of potatoes or toast would be nice. The Steak Ranchero was fine. The steak was tasty and presented over a bed of peppers, onions and tomatoes, with a side of black beans, two eggs and potatoes. I would say good but unremarkable. Although the steak was tasty, it wasn't a large portion and predominantly vegetables. I might pass on this dish next time. Overall, we enjoyed it as this is a good restaurant which I would highly recommend. I look forward to trying some other issues in the future.

Atmosphere was good , server was patient and kind . Food was okay . Honestly the chips and guacamole was the best part of my meal , oh and the Shirley temple :)

We love Mexican food! I'm usually not that hyped about a new restaurant, but there's this amazing place in the Horizon Shopping Center. It's called Mochilero Kitchen in Scottsdale, and it's one of the best scratch kitchens serving real, authentic Mexican food. "Mochilero" means "backpacker" in Spanish, so basically, they take you on a food trip through different parts of Mexico. The restaurant, owned by brother and sister duo Jorge Cota and Meliza Miranda, draws inspiration from various regions of Mexico, offering a modern twist on traditional dishes. Their craft taco selection was to die for. I went with the Mochilero trio, $16.00, a choice of 3 tacos, rice, and beans. I selected Papa Brava, their potato taco, Carne Asada, and a Baja fish taco. I couldn't decide which one I liked best; everything was packed with flavor, probably the best potato taco I've tried. My wife had the "El Mochilero" lunch plato, $18.00, a cheese Chile relleno with a choice of enchilada and taco. All the flavors were balanced; none of the ingredients were overpowering or too spicy. They have brunch on the weekends, daily happy hour from 2:30-5:00 pm with drink specials and Bonitas. We can't wait to go back for happy hour to order a bunch of Bonitas to try different things.

I went for happy hour and had the flautas.... Wow. Once again they've done the lords work.

Best Taco Tuesday in town! Must try.

Great taco spot. Feels more authentic than the rest of the taco places. I've tried all of their tacos and all were excellent! Check them out on Taco Tuesday!

This review is for the totality of the experience…read more I made an advance reservation at Alma Scottsdale for a mid-sized group of 7 to celebrate a special occasion. Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.

The restaurant has a really cool vibe with good music, a fun crowd, and an upscale but comfortable feel. The décor is eclectic and unique, making it a great place to spend an evening. Our waitress, Mackenzie, was friendly and took the time to walk us through the menu and explain some of the restaurant's specialties. Collin, who made our tableside guacamole, was also great. He was personable, answered our questions, and gave us some recommendations on what to order. We ordered everything they recommended. For the four of us, we shared the crispy pork appetizer and tableside guacamole, then ordered the mahi mahi tacos, Faroe salmon, and Corona Jidori chicken. Honestly, everything was delicious. Not a single dish disappointed. To top it all off, they brought out their pumpkin bread pudding for dessert, which was amazing and the perfect way to end the night. If you're looking for a Mexican restaurant that's a little different from the usual, with great food, a fun atmosphere, and excellent service, Mission Old Town is definitely worth checking out. We'll be back.

My only suggestion would have been to over lower price point for smaller portions because there is so much more I wanted to try and even 3 small plates added up to $50. I went with elote shaved off the cob, half portion. This was good. A bit mushy and needed a dash of salt. The tuna fresco tostado was good. Loved the accompanying sauce. Would have loved for the tuna too taste a bit more raw. The house salad was a very generous portion. Added goat cheese which was very tasty! Great avocado and greens. Didn't love the dressing so asked for cilantro dressing anchovies was thicker than I would have liked. I actually would have enjoyed a dressing more like the one with the tostado. Very zesty. Our server Jocelyn was such a darling! Checks could only be split 3 ways so was a bit cumbersome at the end so checks were not initially printed. Id suggest checking on who's sharing what at the front end for billing purposes and providing printed checks as an option below asking for credit cards if guests have to share on their own. Otherwise great experience. Would have also loved a fresh grapefruit juice option from the bar.

Because I wasn't too hungry the food filled me up pretty quickly but it was a bit unfortunate that the short rib taco comes with just one single taco and not two, even though the one taco was pretty hefty! One of my friends got a tortilla soup kind of stew dish -- forgot the name-- and that definitely would be something I would recommend instead and goes well with the tortilla chips. The restaurant definitely had some Mexican influence in its interior design but I'm not sure why they put us in a corner especially since it felt hotter there especially since it seemed their A/C broke down! The biggest disappointment was the Sizzling Sol Fajitas. The steak was underwhelming, and the fajitas were incredibly bland and lacking seasoning. For a dish that's supposed to arrive sizzling and packed with flavor, it missed the mark. I also ordered the Chicken Al Carbon, which was $19, and honestly, I'd rather have gone to Taco Bell and ordered a chicken quesadilla. It had more flavor and would have been a lot more satisfying. Another letdown was the chips and salsa. Sol used to serve seasoned chips that were one of the things I looked forward to, but they've changed them and they're just not good anymore. To top it off, we specifically reserved standard seating, but when we arrived they tried to seat us at a high-top table. Between the bland food, declining quality, and seating issue, this visit was a huge disappointment. There are too many great restaurants in Scottsdale to spend your money here. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it anymore.
