Came here for dessert after dinner after never having had mochi doughnuts before - overall think it's an interesting concept but most of the flavors were too sweet for me (though still not as sweet as American doughnuts). The matcha and taro frosting tastes too much like sugar and not enough like matcha/taro. The tiramisu (bottom left) was my favorite because it was the least sweet and allows you to appreciate the texture of the mochi more. Would suggest that if you don't have a major sweet tooth. The favorite flavor for our group was the oreo by far. My sister really liked the matcha and ube, though I'm generally less of a matcha fan. Mochinut donuts have a completely unique flavor and design. I gotta say, I absolutely love these things. The unique flavorings Mochinut uses (like Honeydew) also threw a curve ball at me. Didn't think I'd like them. But they were absolutely amazing. I also really liked how these donuts can be eaten over time and not in giant gulps. They break apart really nicely and are easier to consume and not have to stuff your face with entire donut. This also means the flavor stands out far more because you are consuming the pastry much slower and still getting the entire experience. Again, unexpected but very welcome. This is hands-down the best variation of the "Mochi Donut" in Boston! Presentation: A+. The donuts have a beautiful glaze and are topped with a cute edible decoration. The tiramisu donuts have a tiny wafer square powdered with cocoa powder to look like a tiny tiramisu cake. The blueberry donuts have little dried blueberries on the edges. We brought it to the counter to show them however the gentleman denied the raw batter even though we presented him the corndog showing him the raw batter and then he raised his voice to us when clearly quality and service was not on par. Ahh, another chain from the west coast. Definitely super stoked that they opened up a Mochinut in Boston. It's a cute side store next to Gong Cha in Allston. Grab some cute donuts along with your boba tea. My boyfriend and I got all 6 flavors that they were serving that day: black sesame, strawberry, chocolate, matcha, ube, and cinnamon. Honestly, I really liked all of the flavors. The cinnamon reminds me of the Korean style donut, dwabaeggi. The ube and the black sesame are my favorite. They also had a kiosk where you can order and pay without a need for anyone to take your order, which was quite convenient. Mochi donuts everywhere! I came to Mochinut straight from Pon de Joy around the block for a direct taste test comparison. The line for Mochinut was very long (~15 people) but the service was well streamlined and it ended up taking less time for us to get our donuts than to get through a line of 3 people at Gongcha. They have 6 flavors including chocolate, matcha, ube, strawberry, and black sesame. The price is 3 for $10 or 6 for $18, which I thought was reasonable given that I've failed spectacularly at making these at home. I got the chocolate, matcha, and black sesame mochi donuts. They were delicious! I liked how each donut came with a cookie (Pocky, pirouette, bear) to complement the flavor -- it made the donuts look more gourmet and was a nice extra treat. I especially loved the matcha -- great flavor. The chocolate was also dark and rich though a bit sweet. The black sesame could have had a stronger sesame flavor. The donuts themselves were chewy and had that fried flavor -- they were very substantial. I haven't had a proper mochi donut since Mister Donut in Japan many years ago, so I was super excited about the new mochi donut offerings in Allston. The Ube and Blueberry flavors/mochinuts were amazing: fresh, warm, and crispy. The Yuzu we got was one of the older ones, and it didn't have the citrus that was promised, unfortunately (didn't taste like much). I'd probably just make sure to ask for a fresh one, so you can avoid that. They have lots of other curious flavors to pick from though, so there's something for everyone to try.
