Excited to have a place to grab mochi donuts! They have a lot of flavors specifically asian flavors which I gravitated to. You can order at a kiosk at the store and any order of 3 or more mochi donuts come in a long rectangular box. I got matcha, ube and black sesame and I would say all 3 were more sweeter & not super overwhelming in flavor. I finally stopped by Mochinut earlier this month and I'm SO glad I did!! I arrived on a Saturday around 1 PM and it was pretty busy, but I received my order in no time (and it was packaged in the cutest lil' box!). I decided to try their matcha, tiramisu, and ube flavors. The matcha and ube donuts were amazing. The glaze on both donuts was plentiful, sweet, and brimming with flavor. I'm usually wary of matcha-based desserts because I find that the earthiness of the matcha never really comes through successfully, but Mochinut got it figured out! The matcha flavor was SO well-rounded and rich. I wasn't a fan of the tiramisu donut because it didn't have a glaze like the other two. It was dusted with a bittersweet cocoa powder which made it feel kind of chalky and dry. I really like this kind of donut because it's wonderfully chewy and soft on the inside (like a cloud!!) but crispy and fragrant on the outside so it holds up well. Being from California I was super happy to see a mochi donut spot in Boston. For me, the part that makes the mochi donuts good is getting the right texture down. Mochinut is conveniently located inside the same shop as Gongcha, so you can grab both at the same time, because who doesn't love an excuse to get 2 different sweets! I bought a dozen when I came, each were a different flavor, and all freshly finished. They were good, but it wasn't anything special. The dough didn't have the mochi and bread consistency I was looking for, I would say it was more on the bread side. For the flavors, I would say some were better than others. I think the frosting was very overwhelming on them, almost too sweet where I couldn't finish a whole one myself. I may have just gotten a bad batch, but next time I come I'll try the new cheese corndogs and the mochinut's again. read more

I had been meaning to try this place since they opened and finally got the chance. It is in a shared space next to gong cha which is perfect to have bubble tea and mochi donuts. We tried three different flavors. I was surprised to see that they give you a cute box for 3 donuts. We had the black sesame, blueberry, and matcha. Of the three the black sesame was the best imo but you have to like the sesame flavor as it is quite strong. The blueberry was a bit sweet for me, but the matcha was good. I was very impressed of their Mochi donut. I'm very new to this dessert so pardon the noob review. My first encounter with this sort of donut was supposedly in Japan back in 2010 and I didn't even realize it. Here in MA, I was introduced by an amazing young woman paying her way through college by selling homemade mochi donuts via instagram and delivering via minivan. Since then, I've been having cravings. My review begins with the obviously popular chocolate mochi donut. This. Was. Epic. The crunch in the beginning was what I thought was a fresh mochi donut out of the oven/fryer and into my mouth. The crunch came from the small balls of flavor that matched perfectly with the dark chocolate frosting. The frosting was perfect pairing to the glaze and surrounding flavors of the balls. Was not too sweet and was not to "dark." This was by far the best mochi donut I've had. I then followed with the tiramisu. Now don't do what I did which was eat the topping cracker thing first. Yes, it was good but I feel like it was supposed to be paired with the bite of the donut. The frosting was a heaping helping of cocoa powder. Over powering. Almost to the point of the powder drying up the back of my throat as well as making a mess every where. The taste was very lackluster and as a guy who doesn't like sweets but will make exceptions for every bad and good tiramisu, I was very disappointed. It's not bad? But if you love tiramisu? TLDR they are absolutely delicious donuts. Factoring in price to portion I would give 4.7 stars (yes, very specific but it is definitely more than 4.5 stars). Food I've tried: (* = my favorite) - Their "donuts" are essentially 8 mochi balls stuck in a circle. Flavor wise, the mochi dough is chewy, with an excellent balance of sweetness to savory-ness. I appreciate that the dough itself is not overly sweet which allowed me to enjoy the flavor of the toppings. The dough was also light and not overly oily. The dough base is the same throughout all the different flavor options. - Prices are $3.50 per doughnut, $10 for 3, $18 for 6, $35 for 12. They are on the pricey side, but as someone who is picky about desserts I think they are worth it. Price is definitely more expensive than something like Dunkin Donuts but it is comparable to other donut specialty shops. However, as much as I am ok paying a premium for good desserts, I do wish there was more donut with each order. There is a rather large hole in the middle so sadly the donut experience ends too soon for $3.50. - TIRAMISU*: comes with a cute little tiramisu looking wafer on top. Unfortunately I dropped my little tiramisu wafer as I was eating the donut, but I imagine it to taste like a standard wafer. As someone who enjoys more subtle sweetness, this was my favorite because the bitterness of the cacao powder balanced well with the sweetness of the cream. - UBE: the ube flavor is on the subtle side. The cream is on the sweeter side, and tastes like standard white frosting. There is a hint of ube that brushes by at the end of the bite. - FRUITY PEBBLES: the white frosting base tasted similar to that of the ube, and is definitely on the sweeter side. There is a generous sprinkling of fruity pebbles on top, and the artificial fruity flavor does permeate the bite. I personally thought that the strong fruity pebble flavor covered up the delicious savory taste of the dough itself, however this donut is definitely better enjoyed by a lover of fruity pebbles. Atmosphere: - They share a space with gong cha. When you enter, there are two separate counters that you can order from. - There is no seating and it is take out only. Service: - As there is no food being actively prepared, you get your donuts as fast as they can put it in the box. Overall: - This is the superior way to consume donuts. Only sad part is how fast I eat them. - I have seen other reviewers comparing this place to other mochi donut shops. Perhaps there will be a more superior mochinut place in the future that will take the five star ranking, but for my first time trying mochinut these were delicious. read more

This place is great for when you want something sweet and chewy. The donuts aren't overly flavored like usual donuts and come out with a nice chewy texture that is expected of mochi. I WILL BE BACK. I've never had mochinut or any mochi donuts before and wasn't sure what to expect. In fact, I don't even really like mochi that much. But honestly, this was so good. It was like the perfect mix between a donut, fried dough, and a churro, but mochified. Although the mochinuts themselves are pretty expensive at ~$3 each (decreasing per piece in bulk), I would consider these to be a fun specialty snack and definitely worth the money. I look forward to coming back every once in a while and buying 3 at a time so I can try all the different flavors. So far, I've tried ube, black sesame, and oreo and loved all of them equally (my family all preferred ube). The mochi also is very chewy and offers a fun texture in the mouth. Since it's like 8 little balls connected, it's easy to separate the balls and eat each one one by one. A lot of variety in flavors, my favorites are black sesame and ube. The black sesame is so cute and comes with a little teddy graham cracker. While it's aesthetic and comes in a variety of flavors, it's also messy. The frosting just kind of breaks off, and it's very oily. They don't provide utensils, so maybe bring your own if you can. It's also very very sweet. I'm not a huge fan of super sweet snacks, so a plain donut actually has a sufficient amount of sweetness to it, in this case. read more

I've only had mochi donuts a couple times and Mochinut is definitely ahead of the pack! I got one of each of their flavors and my favorite was definitely the Strawberry or Ube. The flavors were pretty strong in all of them, but I think my least favorite is the cinnamon sugar as it was pretty bland. Despite that, the "bounciness" (if you can call it that), is wonderful. Literally LOVED everything I got! We got the Korean corn dogs and they were even better than they looked in tik tok! I will say the hot Cheetos corn dog was not spicy at all so I would probably just get the regular one next time but all 3 corn dogs were Soooo yummy. I was so full but could not stop eating. Very popular joint for the new craze of Mochi donut. It's located in the same establishment of gongcha- the place does offer limited seatings so it can get crowded quickly at prime time. Expect about 20mins from waiting in line to getting your donuts. They have a good amount of flavors but doesn't seem to rotate or add more like other places I've been to. The hours displayed on their door said they open at 11am M-Sun. I started waiting in line at 10:50 am on a Saturday morning - right when it turned 11:00 someone came out and changed the opening time to 12:00. Mochi donuts! Not frozen, but definitely a treat! These donuts are made with rice flour in the pon de ring style (8 spheres connected), adorable and delectable! They are more chewy and sticky than regular donuts, a bit like fried dough. Keep in mind the dough is pretty much the same for all the donuts, it's the toppings that change the flavor for the most part. The ring style makes it easy to share, they tear apart into yummy bite sized spheres. We got chocolate (good, but coulda been more chocolatey), Ube (super sweet nutty vanilla like), blueberry (also super sweet, candy like, not my fav), coconut (the best one, sweet and coconutty in the best way), fruity pebbles (also one of the best, I love fruity pebbles!), Oreo (very good!). You can get way better bubble tea at other places Donuts- we've tried a couple of different flavors over the course of a few menus and they were okay.
