But these are delicious! Outside is super crunchy, and the texture of the inside is nice and chewy. So different from regular American corn dogs. I'm assuming it's the same Mochi batter they use for their donuts. The sausage is also very flavorful and juicy. Honey mustard is sooo good and addicting! Mochi donuts here are also great! Mochinut is a mochi donut place. There's tons of locations at this point. They serve mochi donuts, rice hot dogs, and milk tea drinks. This one is located in Diamond Hills Plaza Shopping Center. My favorites have been the Original, Churro, and Oreo. The Oreo frosting definitely tastes like an Oreo cookie. The Original has a nice glaze reminiscent of regular donuts. The Churro has a nice sugary cinnamon flavor. The mochi donuts taste fresh and have a nice chewy and soft texture. They're not overly sweet. They're also stretchy so you can rip them apart into small pieces. Service is alright. Cashiers are friendly. Greeted upon entry but would be left with a pause which signals me to order right ahead. Some mochi donuts sell out faster than others especially some of the special flavored ones. Most of the flavors other than the original one rotate out every 3-4 days. The original and churro donuts were not on display, but was informed that they would be ready in 10 minutes. HUGE IMPROVEMENT since the last time I went around when they first opened. I'll preface this to say that I haven't been back to this location since I think it's a bit of a waste that one of the flavors is just "original", so I HOPPED on it when I saw on their Instagram page that for the week of Halloween they had 6 unique flavors that ALL had a spooky design. In comparison to every other Mochinut location, even compared to the fancier locations in Beverly Hills, etc, this and I think the Sherman Oaks locations were the ONLY ones that had ALL unique flavors AND Halloween designs. That's good stuff right there ! I'm a sucker for aesthetic and this batch did NOT disappoint. We got the entire 6 different flavors from Halloween week which were: 1) Chocolate Monster: -I was disappointed at first because this looked like it sold out and I came during the evening, but to my luck they just finished making some in the back! - chocolate glaze with dark purple sprinkles and a single monster eye -I can see why this one is popular, a nice classic chocolate flavor 2) Pumpkin Cheesecake: -orange glaze with black sprinkles and an orange cream Halloween Oreo -Def my favorite of the bunch since I'm such a huge pumpkin fan and I do enjoy cheesecake too. -Starts with the pumpkin flavor of nutmeg and cinnamon with the slight sweet cheesiness of the cheesecake 3) Witches Cookie Potion: -light "slime" green glaze with cookie bits and crumbs (chocolate chip cookies and Oreos) and 2 monster eyes -Very generous donut since it had so much extra stuff on it. Can never go wrong with a cookie flavor. 4) Snowing Raspberry: -powdered sugar with raspberry jam drawn on to look like a Jack-O-Lantern smile -Surprisingly very good for something that I had the least expectations for. Despite being mostly powdered sugar, the raspberry jam flavor was dispersed evenly throughout the whole donut. 5) Caramel Green Apple: -darker green glaze with Halloween color sprinkles -I was a bit skeptical to try this one but it was better than expected! -You get the slight sweetness of caramel with some slight, super subtle apple flavor. None of that sourness you get from an actual caramel green apple. 6) Scary Ube: -dark purple glaze with Halloween color sprinkles and crackled ube bits -Also a tried and true flavor that you can't go wrong with ! The huge improvement wasn't just aesthetics but the fact that by the next 2 days they were still slightly chewy and soft. Not hardened at all like they were in the past. Not sure if it was because the entire batch I bought was more or less "new" or because they improved their prep process but I was really happy! My only issue was that some of the sprinkles were a bit hard, but that's just the nature of some of these sprinkles, especially the little sphere ones. It's a small store with little attention to detail - forgettable at best. The two workers seemed busy facing away from incoming customers. I had to get their attention before they greeted us. It was our first time, and we didn't see that the flavors were written in light white letters on the top of the glass. Not good placement and poor choice of marker color because the flavor names didn't stand out at all. The donuts were too doughy and had that cold oil flavor. I hoped a few seconds in the microwave would refresh the pastry, but I was wrong. Some time in the air fryer didn't help too much either. Located near Koio tea shop in the Hmart plaza, a new mochi style donut shop opened up this summer. You can't buy donuts individually, the smallest set is a group of 3. I chose to get the flavors of cantaloupe, popped sweet rice, and original for $9. I never seen the cantaloupe flavor in other stores and the light blue icing really tasted like the fruit. The sweet rice was my favorite, the glaze was not too sweet and the texture was good. The hot dog was good too, I had asked for less sugar to be put on the breading. The hot dog breading was crispy but was korean style so they usually roll it in sugar. The brown sugar milk tea was really sweet for me, very syrupy even after stirring alot. I tried to place an online order for pick up but there wasn't an option to order the hotdogs so I called to see if I could place an phone order ahead of time for pick up. I was hoping to avoid the wait by placing an online or phone order ahead of time - hopefully they will allow this in the future. Keep in mind that hotdogs will take an additional 7-10 minutes because they make them when you place your order. I was excited to try all of the donut flavors but honestly, they all tasted the same to me. I thought my brown sugar drink was way too sweet even though I have a sweet tooth - it tasted like syrup. They also forgot to add boba but I didn't want to have to wait again for them to remake it. The lid that they seal on your drink is cool but make sure you wipe it clean before consuming because their machine leaves a black residue. 2 star seems too harsh but 3 stars seem too many. I decided on 3 stars because the donuts were good. They're chewy and less sweet compare to regular donuts. Date of visit: 7/5/2021 Came here and tried finally. Purposely waiting until the commotion dies down a bit and no more crazy line lol. I tried 3 flavors today: banana, taro & raspberry cranberry. They are pretty good imo. Texture is crispy outside and soft chewy inside. Topping is also not overly sweet and the most important thing to me is that it taste fresh and doesn't taste like rancid oil. Will definitely come back for some green tea and chocolate toppings. Yum! This location just opened a few days ago. It's located in the H-Mart plaza next door to Tasty Box. Unlike the Arcadia location they don't have the Korean hotdogs although the staff said they will be selling them in about 2-3 weeks. I got the raspberry cranberry, taro, and Choco churro flavors. Since I don't like fruity pebbles, I asked if they could make a taro one without and they did! Super nice of them! The raspberry cranberry was my favorite of the three I got. The thing I love about mochinut is, it is really easy to share, we took scissors and cut the mochinut into donut holes look alikes. Then the kids just use a fork or toothpick to test them out, like a donut buffet. Separately, we did test out the soft serve ice cream over mochinut. Came here on a Sunday afternoon and there was no line. Parking is super easy since it's right next to the hmart and there's a huge lot. Every time I have ordered from here has been extremely fresh and chewy. I am definitely a fan of the more fruity flavors, and the blueberry yogurt and raspberry is to die for.
