    Blackened Fish & Grits

First time in for a really long time was for a birthday dinner and the food was really fantastic. At the table we had the fish & grits, smoked duck breast, and meatloaf and 2 of us had some nice wine by the glass. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, and the meatloaf plate was devoured without me getting a bite so I know it was really good. Service was on point. I think price wise, they are what you anticipate for from scratch, locally sourced food thoughtfully prepared. I've decided the reason I don't think of them more often for a nice dinner is the ambience, or I should say, the lack thereof. The place is not cozy or comfortable - bright lights, hard seating, and little decor makes me feel like it's a super casual dining restaurant. I don't "feel treated" like I do sitting at some of the other local places with food on par with Mockingbird. I maybe don't mind it as much for brunch, but if you drop $50 for a special Benedict & cocktail - I still want to "feel" it was a more special meal than a local hash spot. Maybe I'm fussy. But I think the only reason I don't put Mockingbird on par with Vetro 1925 or Isabella's for a nice dinner is that it doesn't feel special.

Excited to enjoy some great food! A local spot here in Fayetteville and super consistent on their fabulous service as well as culinary expertise. We love to bring out of town family here while visiting. Bonus, this shopping center has now grown with some phenomenal local shops! Visit Uncle Sam's outfitters or shops at brick city before or after a wonderful meal!

So this is a decent small restaurant in a mini mall that you wouldn't expect to have good food. The place was packed for a weekday lunch. The service was quick, friendly, but they left you alone if you wanted to be left alone. The meatloaf fell apart and had an unexpected spice in the sauce. This isn't grandma's standard brown sauce. And the chips on top were a bit of an overkill, and some vegetable would have helped round out this dish. I appreciate they didn't go crazy on the serving size, however it was pricey.

Their signature dish Ropa Vieja had a lot of flavor but I thought it was just okay. Great service though.

Went here for an early lunch - amazing! I got the turkey melt and my wife got farro with chicken - both were exceptional. Well done!

Mimosa...perfection. Potato smash...11/10. If I could come back I'd just order 3 of those. Mimi was the best despite it being super busy.

I love the trendy laid back atmosphere, both inside and it includes a nice patio space. I noticed several people either dining with others or doing some reading or work on their computers, quite an endorsement of how relaxing the environment is. I had the Breakfast Sammy, which was absolutely delicious. The ingredients tasted quite fresh and each component was really nailed. My wife went with The Dagwood which she loved as well. Friendly staff to boot. I can definitely see us returning here soon.

Early on there had been some shape-shifting from mini-bodega for the entrance lobby, but they've settled into this current mode as a wine bar. For my food: I ordered the salmon breakfast, which comes with a 'jammy egg,' and a latte breve. I had asked for my drink in a mug but received it in a glass. I have a personal preference for my meal to be deconstructed. I hadn't seen a picture of this dish else would have instructed had I been aware. I like to cut open my own egg and tear apart my own fish. (That... will likely be a standard request for all restaurants in the future--deconstruct.) I like the salt flakes and fennel on the eggs and don't know whether I'd've gotten them deconstructed The salmon seems (to me to be) more 'baked' than 'smoked:' The service was pleasant and charming.

I had studied an older menu on here when deciding where to eat, and had decided on the Euro Veggie. When I went in and ordered though she said they were out of sprouts. I took a look at the menu and panicked because it was different and it's a walk up to the counter and order place. There was no one behind me so I should have taken my time but I had told her when I walked up that it was my first visit in and she didn't say anything and then just stared impatiently at me as I reviewed the menu so I did feel rushed. I should have stuck with my first choice minus the sprouts but honestly they were what drew me to that sandwich so I switched to the Spinach & Basil Pesto instead. I don't order many sandwiches out because it's so easy to make a good one at home and I do eat meat but am usually drawn to a veggie or something that's different enough to make ordering a sandwich out worth it. The fresh pesto with tomato and cheese sounded good, but I did not notice in my haste to order that it was grilled. It's 103 degrees outside, thus my reason for wanting a sandwich, a cold one, in the first place. Strike one, but sorta my fault. Then the tomatoes were pale and flavorless and it's prime tomato season right now. Strike two. And the spinach & basil pesto only faintly hinted at any basil and it was in dire need of salt and some garlic or something to give it some flavor. Strike three. So I'm sure by now you got the point that I did not care for that sandwich at all. Moving on...the sandwich was served with a pickle, ruffles potato chips and an oatmeal cookie. The pickle was fine. Vlasic type. I would rather have a crisp kosher refrigerator pickle, and would serve that if it were my restaurant. So on to the chips. Ruffles? Seriously can they not spring for a better potato chip? There were other reviews on here with Boulder kettle chips so I guess I assumed there would be a choice. And the cookie. I think they are baked in house and I generally love oatmeal cookies but they need a new recipe. I had to take a few bites before I was even sure what kind of cookie it was so I guess I'll just leave that to tell you how unimpressive it was. So yeah. All in all a very boring, lackluster lunch from a place where I just felt nobody cared. I make a point of supporting small businesses because I have had them myself and I know how hard it is. But someone could have run to the store for a package or two of sprouts. She told me the shipment wouldn't be in until tomorrow so it was a conscious recession to go without. Maybe my sandwich would have been amazing and enough to overlook the pickle, chips and cookie. Probably not, because the same management that went without sprouts, serve awful tomatoes during tomato season and are ok with that lousy pesto are also making the Euro Veggie sandwich decisions. Unfortunately nothing in the place stood out to me and the food wasn't up to par. Oh, and I did buy a loaf of sourdough on my way out, because I have gorgeous farm stand tomatoes and basil from my mother-in-law at home. If home had been close enough for lunch that's where I woulda had my sandwich. If the bread is anything to write home about I will update this review!
