MOD was a coffee shop that I looked forward to trying when I first moved down to Galveston. It's located within walking distance of many restaurants and stores, making it a great stop if you're exploring downtown Galveston. I like to park a couple streets down to avoid paid parking. The outdoor seating is fairly aesthetic and you always see people out sitting with their dogs. The inside seating is not as impressive to me and gives off older vibes. MOD has a lot of fun specialty latte options and I've personally tried the Holly and the Honey Bee Latte. Because there's so many options, I like to sometimes get the "Just Trust Me" so the barista chooses for me, and they manage to always do a good job despite the surprise. While the specialty lattes are interesting and fun to try, sometimes all the flavors can hide the actual coffee flavor which I wish was more prominent. Their cup sizes are also smaller than I am used to at other coffee shops. They have a good array of baked goods as well. I personally enjoyed the chocolate peanut butter bar. Many types of teas available too! Overall, although it's not my personal go-to coffee shop, MOD has a variety of good options! read more

I love MOD. One of my absolute favorite coffeeshops and in the top 5 things I miss about living in Galveston. SO and I stopped by after a night of drinking to refuel with some delicious lattes. While I absolutely love the Honey Bee latte, I went for the Vanilla Bean latte while SO ordered the Raspberry Mocha latte. Honestly all of the latte options are so delicious and worth trying. Visited this place with the honey after seeing some really great reviews about it on Yelp. Very nice ambiance about the place, brick walls, handmade menus, and quiet study areas. Outside, there are a couple of tables seated under some greenery and string lights. Picture perfect. When you first walk in, you see that there's a little nook for those studying and coffee lovers alike a few steps upstairs. Terribly cute. It was cold outside so I wanted a nice, hot latte. Saw their menu of specialty lattes and my dear friends, they have a GOOD selection of specialty lattes. Nothing overwhelming. Just a couple handfuls worth. I ended up going with the "Squirrel" latte that consisted of toffee nut, amaretto, & hazelnut (hope i'm not missing anything... but it was DIVINE). When they called out my order the barista said "small squirrel" -- got a kick out of that. The gal that rang me up was super attentive and friendly and was the same to the customers before and after me, so I'd say the customer service is to boot. I've only been here once, but I'll definitely be coming back again the next time we're in good old Galveston. It's just too good to pass up. read more

First I'm going to say love the atmosphere. So cute! Both inside and out were full of people even though it was like 15-20 minutes before they closed. With that being said, I love coffee, but decaf. I asked if they had decaf and I really did not get a solid yes or no answer. So I ordered a Frozen caramel dream no whip. It was good and surprisingly not to sweet. My friend and I decided to visit Galveston for the first time July 2nd to go to The Witchery and the beach. We decided to kill some time before heading to the beach so we went to MOD. I ordered an aveline frozen frappe (white mocha with a hint of hazelnut) with an extra espresso shot and my friend ordered a mocha frozen frappe. My frappe was the best I'd ever had, I kid you not. I probably could have finished it in a few gulps if I tried, but instead I sipped it slow to savor it. My friend liked her drink too, I didn't try it so I can't really comment on how it came out. We also shared a brownie, it had chocolate chunks inside it and was good (probably would have tasted better warm though, but that's just me being picky). The employees were awesome! They joked around with my friend and I and treated us like they had known us for years. I will definitely be back to MOD next time I'm in Galveston, hell I might make the drive just to get another frappe soon lol. read more

The little brunette girl with piercings and Astros hat behind the register is so rude, I've worked in retail my entire life and she wouldn't be employed at most retail stores I'm aware of. Perfect place for an after dinner cappuccino. I loved the ambience and the decor. They have a trust me option and my s.o. really liked it. He asked afterwards what they put it in and one of the ingredients was lavender! Super unique. My dad who is ridiculously picky about coffee was an instant fan. He just got a regular coffee (black). My favourite place to hang downtown. Coffee variety beats anywhere else I've been. I love letting the baristas just do whatever they feel like making me (go with the "Just Trust Me"). You can sub almond milk with the items and it always tastes great. I first had the Shamrock which is absolutely divine both hot and cold! The baristas here are fantastic, chill people. There are a lot of college students here trying to study (as I am one of them) which is why the place fills up quickly especially on the evenings. The MOD hosts regular discussion sessions and I do recommend going to these. Love this place. read more

This was my favorite coffee shop on the island until today. They refused me service because I had my goldendoodle with me. I told them I planned to order and just sit outside, and the guy still said no they're only allowed outside. I asked how can I order then if I have him with me and the guy rudely told me "there are signs posted outside stating no dogs allowed unless it's a service dog!" So thank you, Mod for not letting me order or giving me an option to order from outside. You def lost a customer for good, especially since I've seen multiple non-service dogs in the shop before. Don't recommend unless you have someone with you who can sit outside with your dog while you order. Smh. read more

UPDATE: I added a star back for always being consistent. The internet is still hit or miss, some days fast, some slow, and it never seems to correlate with how many people are there. Scenery is always top notch. The main things this place has going for it is that it's the only coffee shop around with a decent atmosphere and good people watching. The basic coffee is okay, but the vast menu of coffee drinks are usually not that great and seem to all run together in form and taste. Also, the quality highly depends on who's making it. Most of the baristas are not that great; fine people, but mediocre baristas. The internet is VERY slow. The food options are limited and have not changed in a long, long time. All in all, seems like the owner is just coasting along and cashing in. Some suggestions... speed up the internet, cut the coffee menu in half at least and train the baristas to be consistent, change up the baked goods regularly and offer some more substantial food options. read more

This coffeeshop has the best atmosphere and vibe, plus the employees are extremely nice and helpful. The coffee is way better than a typical Starbucks or Keurig pod, with lots of unique flavors and extra add-ons to choose from. They even have milk substitutes for your drink and smoothies. I usually get an iced raspberry mocha latte and a peanut butter bar. Studying is common here, as there is a separate room that is quiet with large tables and comfortable seating. Above the serving area is a tiny loft that is also suitable for studying or having small gatherings with friends. read more

Pecan Coffee Cake was good, little crumbly and fell apart but the flavor was delicious. Drink wise- this place can make anything you want. Iced, non-iced, different flavors, extra shots. I love a good coffee shop study place- for real. Every new city I live in, I HUNT for the perfect place to drink a chai and study. This is my place in Galveston. Lots of seating inside and outside, music that makes me eargasm, and most importantly, delicious chai tea. Honestly, I have no idea how their coffee tastes because I'm not a coffee person, BUT I've been here with others who have enjoyed it. The music is not too loud so you can focus, but it also is popular so you definitely won't feel alone, which is why I like to come here. MOD is in the perfect location, and If I lived in Galveston I would frequent this coffee shop. It is on Post Office St, where there are rows of art galleries by local artists as well as antique stores. There is ample street parking, and it doesn't matter where you park, really, because you'll end up wanting to walk the whole street! Inside, I found MOD to be very homey and the cashier greeted me with a warm welcome. I was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of unique lattes they had. I was intrigued by the "Just Trust Me" which the barista said was a local favorite- it's letting the barista make you whatever he/she wants! Mine had a nutty hazelnut flavor which I enjoyed. My boyfriend got an iced decaf mocha which was also really tasty. We sat outside under the dreamy ivy woven structure that provides shade. It is a perfect place to chill, study, read a book, or talk. Beware- a lot of smokers/vapers enjoy the outside too, so I recommend sitting inside if you are sensitive to that. Extra brownie points for the kind hearted barista who made me a new latte for free because a fly decided to take a dunk in my original one...I was really sad but they made me a new one in a jiffy! We stopped here while traveling around Galveston. I just wanted a regular coffee. It was burned, gross, un drinkable. It seems they serve all those fancy drinks and there were tons of folks hanging out seemingly pleased, but a regular cup of coffee, they cannot seem to produce. I won't be back. read more

OK the reason why I'm giving this place a one star, first of all very nice place and good coffee kind of a kind of a nice, weird vibe, artistic vibe, but, like from San Francisco and I came in there, and I was talking to the people behind the counter, and I mentioned that I'm from California, and one of the workers behind the counter said, and I quote, we wish you California people would go back to California. No I didn't think that was very nice. I didn't say anything. I smiled. Miss the second time I came back the same guys obviously working there and he mugged me you know, but I smiled because of him, you know I don't wanna spread the heat I'm trying to be nice to people and you know if it's wrong me being from California what ever so I just don't understand the bad attitude so that's my take on it. Overall, MOD is a pretty cool coffee house joined to a nice ice cream shop, which makes it an awesome dessert spot. Pros: -the atmosphere here is very cool. It's a trendy coffee house with a relaxed atmosphere that's definitely popular with the younger crowd. -the staff is really patient and extremely nice. They're personable and just overall cool people. -the dessert is divine here. We had the peanut butter bar and the chocolate chip cookies and they were both really good. Cons: -with the trendy vibe and cool name comes the crowds. There was a pretty sizable line here filled with people squeezing by to pass you, and many of those people really don't mind bumping into you. -the coffee here was okay. I felt like they have a heavy hand when it comes to adding syrup, so I definitely would recommend asking for less syrup and more cream if that's what you into. We tried the Holly and the "Just Trust Me." The Holly, oddly, had a floral taste and was lackluster. In short, not a bad place if you're craving coffee and on the Strand, but make sure to ask for a little more cream in your coffee and come wearing your patient pants because lines and long and space is tight. read more

This is a hip little local joint that harkens back to my college days in Austin, where most coffee shops are locally furnished and operated. The laid back service and limited parking also brought back mixed feelings. My friend and I came in for lunch and enjoyed our cups of Chai among their rustic decor and eclectic clientele. The Thai Noodle lunch special wasn't very authentically "Thai" and the mushroom and broccoli were salty. It seems unfair to dock them on that since MOD is first and foremost a coffee shop, but it colored my first experience here. I wanted to love this place after hearing so many great things about it. Ultimately, I like it well enough for future visits and I always prefer to support the locals. read more
