Small changes could improve my review. I stopped by this location for lunch with my son it was around 2pm and traffic had slowed down. Pizza is super tasty. Great crust which for me, is what it comes down to. Strawberry shakes are delicious too. Smooth and creamy without being overly sweet. Staff are helpful and friendly- great attitudes and seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs. Loud inside with concrete floors and hard surfaces-radio cranked up pretty much always. Music selection is a decent mix of 80s and 90s. Nothing offensive. Biggest issue: Don't waste your time ordering online- they won't start making your food until you arrive. read more

It was our first time visiting MOD pizza, we let them know when we got up to the counter and one of the employees explained how everything worked to us. They were super sweet and patient with us. We did visit pretty late around 9 and guy working the register had noticed they were out of the house made lemonades and offered to make more for us. This is a nice place to grab a bite in the Tanasbourne area. There are several chains like this in the Metro area now. How it works is you walk up tell them what size you want. This determined the price. Then you tell them what all you want on it. Load up if you want or put on less. It's all the same price. Staff here seems to be hit or miss. They are always ok, just some you can tell are not into it. My favorite is a regular with white sauce lots of cheese (they don't seem to like that), garlic, chicken, Canadian bacon, roasted garlic, what ever vegies sound good that day, more cheese on top to hold it all together an a second kind of cheese. Pretty good! I'll be back. There were a lot of choices of toppings but I went to my standby, good ol' cheese pizza. Here it's called the Maddy. Perfectly cooked, crisp crust with good chew, and not too much toppings. I like that, it reminds me a bit of the pizzas you can buy on various street corners in Florence and Rome. Pizza does not need to be complicated to be good, in fact I think the simpler the better. Caveat: if you are used to American chain pizza, with 1/2 thick globs of cheese, MOD Pizza is not that. To their credit. The staff could not be more friendly or helpful. This is a very good thing. However a chorus of welcome! as you are walking into the building, which is loud and echoey due to high ceilings and loud music anyway, can be a bit much. There were 10 people behind the counter at 1 point. That's a lot of hello. But who gets mad about people being too enthusiastic and nice? It is loud, and I normally don't like that, but it goes with the decor and the concept. It's an industrial design, all high ceilings and exposed beams. The loud music fits the fast casual concept and didn't bother me at all. I'll be back, as it's near my work and a great lunch choice. Okay, I eat here a bit more than I'm really comfortable admitting. This is my current favorite convenience food, and it is pretty awesome. I'm a picky bugger, and MOD Pizza seems to have designed itself around people like me. Their pizza is made on a cracker style crust, so it is a bit different than the fluffy-weird Domino's style pizza with pools of cheese. Also, I've been eating their gluten free pizza. They have one of the best gluten free pizza crusts ever, it acts just like the crust on their conventional pizza, and isn't oddly sweet that way Pizzacato's version is. The staff are completely upfront about gluten contamination too, and seem semi-educated on the topic (unlike some other places that will lie to your face). Toppings are what you make them at MOD, so it is seriously up to you. Want more cheese? Pesto? More meat? Less meat? Tell them so. I'm amazed at how complex my pizza ordering has gotten, and the MOD staff even encourage it. The price is completely unrelated to how many topping/cheeses/sauces you pile on. The salads are an awesome value. Seriously, I don't think I could make their Mega Salad at home for the same price. Same deal as the pizza, it is all about how you want It- and how many directions you are willing to give to the person assembling it. Joseph is my salad maestro, and has been absolutely unflinching as I roughly explain the quantities of each ingredient that should be in my bowl. I suspect the guy of mind reading, since my verbal descriptions of amounts/things degrade the hungrier I am. As I said before, I have been here too frequently. One of the reasons for this is that every single time I've walked through the doors, the MOD team has found some unique way to roll out the customer service. The whole team rocks, but Danny has been pretty amazing in his own version of consistent (and outstanding) customer service. You know that you're in trouble when the staff starts recognizing you. No way Mod Pizza is near 5 stars, but it is a strong 3-star lunch joint. The pizzas are customizable - at no extra cost - and come out hot, but the taste is not close to the top tier pizza places in Portland. Mod's got the foodie-poor West Side under its grips, though, because pizza is not the thing it is elsewhere in PDX. Mod actually can qualify as a better pizza in Hillsboro...sad but true. Props to them for seeing a gap and at least somewhat filling it. If you dig cheap, fast, hot and customized pizza, Mod may be your place. I like it as a lunch option, but I would not recommend it as a take home for family dinner option. The thin, pre-made crust is mediocre and the toppings are average tasting. We ordered two pizzas and a Caesar salad, pizza barley had any toppings on it, I was afraid to even ask to have more put on it because I knew I'd get some lame excuse of why they have to charge extra. The crust on the pizza has no flavor and is chewy not what you would expect for such a thin crust. Salad barley had any dressing on it, seems they are not very good at quality control because some of the lettuce was brown. Staff is not very friendly, they are very slow. I'd never make it in Chicago. I like my pizza crust thin and crispy, and MOD does it perfectly. It's like Subway for pizza. Pick your sauce and toppings, and they put it all together and throw it in the brick oven for you. It's relatively quick, the service is great and the pizza is friggin' perfect (if you like thin crust pizza.) All for a little over $7. There's an outdoor seating area, and a small selection of bottled and tap beers. It can get busy, but they move the line along pretty quickly. I wanted to update my review. When they first open this place was great! Now, not so much. The customer service has gone down considerably. The workers there are talking and gossiping among themselves while asking you what you want for your pizza. Completely customizable pizza at a flat rate! It doesn't get any better than that. The marionberry lemonade is amazing but if you're looking for something colder they have soft serv floats that you can add any fountain drink of your choosing to. The soft serv might be refillable too based on what the cashier told me but I was too full by the end of my meal to take him up on it. Back to the pizza...it's super thin and the crust is made with a dough press so you have a nice even thickness all the way through. The pizza is cooked in a brick oven so theoretically it comes out fast (less than 7 minutes) and flavorful, but you do still have to wait for the people in front of you to have their food cooked first. Mod Pizza has an interesting concept. Like an unnamed burrito purveyor they build your pizza in front of you so every pizza can be customized to your liking. Great concept if they had a better pizza. The crusts are tough and they give you such a small amount of any one ingredient that it's hard to get some in every bite. I want a pepperoni pizza that has more than six small sliced of pepperoni. They also skimp on the sauce and cheese. The salads are a much better choice. We got the MOD salad which is large salad for 2-4 people. We ate about half of our salad and took the rest home for my wife to eat for lunch the next day. They have great selection of ingredients that you can add to your salad but a limited number of salad dressings. If you want a great tossed salad with a dry tough pizza this is your place. read more

The pizza was absolutely fantastic. Let's start with the toppings: the pizza stays the same price regardless of how much stuff you want to put on top. I did pepperoni, sausage, onion, ham, and pineapple, a ton of Mozzarella and Asiago Cheese and some red sauce. All of it was delicious, except the sausage, which had the consistency and taste of a something you might get at Chuck E. Cheese. Their drink selection includes beer, soda, and milkshakes. Beer is over priced, the soda (lemonade, and tea) selection is incredible, but I wanted the shake. For something that comes out of a machine, it was phenomenal as well.
