I love mod pizza. Very thin crust two different sizes. I get the mini has four pieces. The thing is you can do anything you want no extra charge. So you can add 15 items if you want. It's fast and they have outdoor seating. They do sell beer. Don't forget the round chocolate cakes at the checkout. They are delicious. And the money goes to support the staff. One of my favorite pizza place is for sure in the area. MOD Pizza is really good because they use authentic cheese and they use a really good sauce that I do not taste and many other pizza places. Went here for the first time to pick up a small pizza for my wife. There's not too many places in Irvine where they serve a white sauce as the base for the pizza crust, this place does. Very easy to order from website they also at this location at curbside pickup which I used. Since they didn't have exactly what my wife wanted in their pre-made pizzas I opt for the create your own. I had the Mad Dog Pizza recently for Lunch. It was pretty busy (long line) from about 12:45 but oddly it was pretty empty by 1:30. I guess people eat lunch early in Irvine? Craving a personal pizza, I expected this spot to be similar to Pieology and Blaze pizza. And, in a lot of ways, it was. There are some differences in toppings and other options available, but for the most part choosing mod will be for subtle differences in taste. Pricing is similar to other pizza places as well. The staff is very friendly and helpful at Mod. They made me feel welcome my first time there. Upon asking for a topping, they won't give you that much initially, but if you ask for more or extra, they have no problem with your request! I thought the after bake sauce options were quite extensive. I personally chose to put on the buffalo sauce and garlic butter. The crust came out slightly burnt, but I didn't mind too much. The pizza was a good thickness for some crunch and full body of the pizza as well. Overall, this is a solid spot to grab a pizza. It doesn't stand out from the other two personal pizza places I've been to (Blaze and Pieology), which is why I'm giving 4 stars, but it's definitely tasty and will satisfy your cravings! read more

I love MOD pizza! I would say it's my top place for the make- your- own pizzas! It's all about the great tasting crust and the No name cakes which are similar to Ding dongs! The only reason why I gave this 4 stars is because the employee who helped me was very stingy on giving me what I wanted. Was overall ok. Ordered the tristan and the jasper. For the tristam, the asiago cheese didnt seem to complement well with the other ingredients. It wasnt our style of pizza but to each their own. Ingredients were fresh and artichoke was refreshing and tasty. Chicken was a bit dry and unflavorful. The jasper was good but didnt seem to stand out from other pizza shops. I like that it wasnt oily unlike other pizzas that have pepperoni and sausage. The sausage had good flavor and a slightly spicy kick that i liked. The dough wasnt as crispy as i thought and had some burned underside. Workers were very friendly and place was clean. Restaurant had a hip youngster adult type atmosphere which was nice. Driving home from Los Angeles I was trying to find somewhere for dinner that was quick. I saw the MOD as well as other restaurants in the area I was in just off the 5 FWY. I was hesitant to order pizza "to go" on my return trip as I Juuuust wanted to get home after a long day and long drive. (Now I'm sitting here writing a review. Lol) I was amazed at the price, freshness and quality of the toppings as well as how FAST it was from ordering to being in my hand and me heading for the car. The pizza was awesome! I see that there was some reviews regarding bad service. I too experienced that here. Particularly with a young female in glasses. We walked in and she was immediately aggressive. Wouldn't look at us or even say "hi". Just "WHAT CAN I GET FOR YOU". She was clearly upset that we came in before closing. All her coworkers were embarrassed. My favorite build your own pizza chain compared to the many others out there. No one beats the amount of topping selection, and freshness. They are pretty fast here compared to Pieology. Out of all the BYO pizza places, MOD is definitely my favorite. All the way from the toppings, the friendly staff, and the taste of the dough, just can't get enough. Thanks Jacob and Marissa on my visit today in taking very good care in creating the pizza and cleaning the outside tables! They're the best. PS to MOD. Only 2 people to do everything is probably understaffed MOD. Please look into increasing body count at odd hours. I've eaten here a number of times. I do find the pizza to be rather good tasting. I do not like it as much as Domino's as far as taste (when Domino's gets it right), but, I do find that the pizza here is much healthier as I do not notice as much of an impact to my health and fitness goals when I have eaten here. Mod Pizza is kind of like Chipotle for pizza. It is unusual and unique in that you wait in line and choose what you want on the pizza right then and there, Chipotle style. I find this to be both novel and interesting. Even a bit fun. Mod Pizza isn't actually local to Orange County. They started in Seattle, and in fact, the first time I ever had Mod Pizza was in their original location in Seattle. It was interesting to me to find them here in Orange County. I found the pizza here to be at least as good as the original location, and consistent with taste and quality. It doesn't seem that Mod Pizza has glocalized their pizza to the area, which is good in my opinion. A lot of other pizza chains definitely glocalize their pizza and there are distinct differences in different geographical areas. But I found Mod Pizza to be consistent with its original location. The pizza has a thinner type of crust that is less doughy, which is probably why it is healthier than some of their competitors. One person could easily eat half a pizza or more, and it does certainly leave you feeling full and satisfied. And happy. Although, I might recommend not to overeat and share a pizza with a friend? But that's just my opinion. ;) The service here is nice, and if you come there is usually a line, but it does go rather quickly so you aren't waiting very long. It's a great place to go with friends, they have a very nice outdoor patio which takes advantage of the perfect weather here in Orange County. It's a nice and fun place to eat. I do recommend Mod Pizza, I think that the service is good, the quality and taste of the food is good. The location is clean, and it is a nice place to dine in with friends. The only downside is it is a bit pricey, although, this is consistent with all of southern california pricing. It's worth going here even just to experience the unique method of choosing what you want on the pizza then and there as opposed to the traditional method of pointing it out on the menu. Also, this is just a guess but I think the quality of the ingredients are probably a bit higher due to the ingredients needed to be fresher for display, and there are probably more options to choose from than the traditional pizza places. read more

For an assembly line pizza, it wasn't bad at all. My favorite is still Pieology, but this one is pretty good for the price. I like it when it first comes out of the oven, but after you take it home, the crust becomes a cracker-like consistency. I do like the fact that they're fast -- although when they're slammed, things get chaotic pretty quickly. The girl preparing my pizza had unkempt hair swaying back and forth over all the toppings, the gentleman who took over the second part of my pizza construction had long sweeping Bieber hair over the toppings, the guy tending the pizza over had his hair over every pizza he took out. It's gross. Especially in a restaurant that is so hands on and right in front of the customer. I over heard them saying a rush had just finished, so initially I didn't mind the mess outside, and the fact that I had to wipe my own table. However, after an hour had passed and the place was nearly empty, not one person had come outside to take care of the over flowing trash, napkins on the floor, and dishes piled high. Pizza was decent. About par with the likes of Pieology, Pizza Rev, etc. nothing spectacular. The lack of proper food prep, the fact that the employees were talking about cigarettes while making my pizza, and the uncleanliness of the restaurant make it easy for me to never return. read more

The concept here is similar to Pieology and Blaze Pizza (create your own for one set price), but the other two places are better. One of the big things is the execution. At Pieology and Blaze, you can actually watch them make it in front of you - you can see how much of everything they're putting on the pizza, ask for more if they don't put enough, etc. Here, you list out the toppings you want, they circle it on the paper, and then you pay. You don't get to see what you're actually getting because they do it all behind the scenes. The employees here also don't seem as professional - I came and there was no line, but I was still waiting and waiting for someone to tend to me while the employees were cracking jokes at each other and taking their time socializing. I'm all for an easygoing, fun, relaxing atmosphere for both the employees and the customers, but that just seemed a bit much... especially when I was there with two little kids in tow. Service feels slow whereas at Pieology and Blaze, they are focused and zooming through the lines. I've been here twice now, and wanted to wait until the 2nd time to write this review because I thought the first time might've been a fluke. Guess not. Their pizzas also don't taste as flavorful as the other places. Maybe it's the sauce? Maybe it's because I can't see them make it so I can't say more garlic or more sausage! I was MOD!!! I constantly see people checking in, posting pics, giving rave reviews so I book marked the joint hoping one day I'd be in the mood for pizza. I'm not a big pizza fan but the family is. Mod Pizza is located in the little building off Alton, next to Luna Grill. It's easy to miss because the sign is not illuminated at night. LIGHT UP THAT SIGN! Upon entering, you are greeted by the friendly faces behind the short glass counter. Look up and see all the Mod creations, look down and see all the ingredients for a custom creation, look ahead and see the stainless pizza oven. I settled on the Sienna because I wasn't in the mood to think...I just came from an exhausting Costco trip that put a huge dent in my wallet. It looked like a tasty pizza without meat...wasn't in the mood for meat either. We ordered 2 pizzas and sat down and waited. In the meantime, I took some pictures of the place to pop on Yelp. Décor is cool, high top tables near the assembly line with metal stools, walls have lots to look at with pictures splattered in a collage. Super Fast is correct...we didn't wait long until the friendly young man brought our boxes to the table where we were sitting. We grabbed them and headed to the door...followed by cheery good-bye's and thank you's. Similar to Japanese restaurants where everyone greets you upon entering, Mod Pizza does the same upon leaving. The pizzas were still hot and crispy when we arrived home. My pizza was delicious. I particularly loved the rosemary and artichoke. The ingredients were well balanced in both taste and spacing so every bite was full of deliciousness. The crust is crispy at the edges because it's a thin pizza, and gets less crispy as you get to the center, but it's never soggy. Overall experience 4.5 stars! We'll definitely be back. read more

3.75 star, but not really a 4 since that means "I'm a fan" which I'm not. It's a DIY pizza place so your creation will be different. I will update this if I make a better creation. Mainly I will have to ask them to cook it longer and add more ingredients since their default is on economy mode! Upon walking in I was confused when the worker asked me somewhere along the lines of "what can I get for you". I frequent Pieology a lot because I work near one so I'm used to walking in and a pizza dough is at the ready and they just asked me what sauce I like. Anyway, after tell her I OBVIOUSLY wanted a pizza, we proceeded to make the creation. The result was not bad, just not up to the standards I was use to at Pieology. But everyone is different. I guess I can always tell them to add more topping, it seemed like she was counting how many pepperoni slices she was putting on...maybe she would get into trouble if she added in too much without being asked to? I LOVE their roasted garlic and red sauce, those two things will keep me coming back (plus I live close to this place). They do not make their pizza crispy enough as the center was a bit soggy.
