I prefer this location than the one closer to my home (Pasadena) easy parking at Glendale, friendlier and nicer receptionist. There's also a nice green lawn outside to do their business. Nurse assistant was pleasant, vet was also pleasant. Wonderful check up and very thorough. They won't let you wait in one of the rooms if you come early even if it's not being used so if your dog/cat is reactive to others don't come early. I can't say enough good things about Modern Animal. My elder dog was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer. The amount of time the doctors and staff spent with me to ensure I made the best decision was so comforting, especially since it was my first visit. Unfortunately, my dog lost his battle with cancer soon after the diagnoses but the team has been so thoughtful. I cannot recommend them more highly. read more

Scott honestly made me wish we were clients all the time. At our appointment, Myra and Dr. Hawkins were both patient, clear and thorough, and so gentle with our foster pup. I took my cats to Modern Animal for one year. Here are some of the reasons for my one-star review: -Modern Animal does all appointment booking and communication through their app. Although the people you are speaking with are usually credited as vet techs under their names, there's no way of knowing if that's true. I had recently picked up my cat's thyroid medication and it had a big warning label on it that said not to touch it with bare hands. I had been handling this pill for months and it was the first time I'd seen that warning, so I asked through the app. The person I talked to said that PREGNANT women aren't supposed to touch it. So when I clarified that I, a person who is not pregnant, can touch it, they responded that I still shouldn't touch it. I later brought it up in person during my appointment and the vet seemed perplexed by this advice. -They ask that you show up 15 minutes before your appointment time. However, on one instance, I had to wait 30 minutes past my appointment time before I got taken back to the exam room. That means I was waiting in the lobby with my cat in her carrier for 45 full minutes before I was actually seen. I understand that vet clinics can run behind, but you'd think they would actually USE the app that they tout as one of their best features to contact you ahead of time and let you know your appointment is delayed. -They keep Churu in all the rooms. My cat DOES NOT like Churu. They offered it during one appointment, and I mentioned that she DOES NOT like it, but they still took the Churu out and actually smeared it on her nose. It made her even more annoyed. -They might not pay close enough attention to your animal's chart. My cat was diagnosed with thyroid disease at Modern Animal, and in the process of trying to figure out the correct dosage of thyroid medication, my vet recommended a dosage we had already tried in the past. I had to remind her that we had already tried that and it didn't work. If I hadn't noticed it myself, I would have gone another round of meds that were not the right dose and had to do even more (expensive) bloodwork for no reason. -My cat had a dental cleaning and extractions done at Modern Animal. I think the care was good and she healed well, but they did prescribe me some additional medications, including gabapentin, for her to take the morning of her procedure. My cat has had many dentals at many different vets and has never had these medications prescribed. I feel like it was a way to charge me more, honestly. -When my cat was diagnosed with thyroid disease, the vet recommended the oral medication. My cat is extremely finicky with pills so I asked if she could be put on the transdermal gel instead. The vet discouraged it and told me that the pill would be better. Because of that, I wasted many months trying to get her to take the pill regularly before finally convincing the vet that I needed to switch to the gel. At that point, we had to start all over trying to get her regulated, which was just more bloodwork and more money spent. -I finally let Modern Animal know (through the app) that my cat wasn't eating the pill pockets anymore and insisted on being switched to the transdermal thyroid medication. The person on the app told me the new medication was ready to be picked up. When I got there, I knew I wanted to speak to someone about how to administer it since it was so new to me. The person at the front desk told me they were super busy, but I said I would wait. Nearly an hour later, a vet tech came out to talk to me, and during the conversation (because we were both confused about each other's questions and answers), we discovered that the wrong medication had been prescribed. They had given me an appetite stimulant, not thyroid medication. I have no proof that their chat has any AI involved, but this seems like a mistake that was made because I said my cat "wasn't eating" the pill. However, any human can see what I meant, especially after I requested the transdermal thyroid medication. I can't believe they almost sent me home with an appetite stimulant - and if I hadn't looked up the name of it, could have given that to my cat instead of her crucial thyroid meds. I am so thankful that I was stubborn and waited the hour to talk to someone rather than just going home. But this was the last straw at Modern Animal. Giving incorrect medication is a potentially very dangerous mistake, depending on what you need and what you are actually getting. Modern Animal does have some caring staff, I just feel that they have way too many patients to care for and don't have the capacity to do so. I think the big draw about Modern Animal is how Instagrammable their facilities are, but that's not what I'm looking for. read more

We are HUGE Dr. Lazarus fans in our house as she has gone above and beyond time and time again for our family, however ALL of the Docs, Techs and team members we have seen (and we've seen a lot of them over the last few years with two very senior pups) have been incredible. So far so great at this location! It is one of the newer ones and slowly but surely becoming my favorite one. The Ventura Blvd location is currently at the top. My dog and I've been to this location 4 times: 2x for an actual vet visit, 1x for a Vet Tech visit and 1x for a 'Happy' visit. For the most part, if you're looking a few days ahead, this location has a wider range of available times. I love the convenience of this location too because it is in a small plaza with Chase bank. There is always plenty of parking and a security guard keeping an eye out. There's a small/med grassy knoll so my dog can use the bathroom with ease before or after our visit. Also it is right by the Glendale Galleria and Americana if you need to run errands nearby too. Wendy has been consistent presence at the front desk for us and everyone at reception has been welcoming to both of us. I still love the touch of the complimentary drinks while you wait or before you leave. I used to be wary of an annual subscription because what if I don't like the people or the service? But after being with MA since March of this year it has been great. Firstly, because I'm an annual member, all my dog's visits are complimentary. And I didn't realize this but I think they also discount some of the costs. Visiting a few times the first couple of months alone paid off the membership fee as a lot of vets are charging between $50-80 per visit. As an owner who's dog has had an anal gland infection it was really nice that they talked me through part of the process where Ariella asked the other Tech to double check to see if one of the glands was full or if it was just scar tissue. Yes, my dog was crying and struggling but they gently and firmly handled the business. The gland ended up being full of thick fluid. And I'm glad they took the time to see it through because had they just given up? It would've more likely have turned into an infection. Also, I never thought it really necessary but it was really a nice touch that they invite 'happy' visits for our pets. These are just visit to acclimate them to the office and its staff without an actual procedure or exam scheduled. They get cooed at, pet, and treats if appropriate and they go home not feeling so anxious the next time they have an appointment, etc. (the pets not the humans -- though I'm sure it is for some humans too LOL) My dog enjoyed hers and it sort of neutralize the tougher visits - the potential for attention and love are high no matter what! ALSO: bc of the recent respiratory virus going around they do have a separate entrance and exit for dogs experiencing symptoms, which is lovely way to handle it I feel. I took my older dog Joey last week for the first time to modern animal in Glendale and I was very pleased with Dr.Brookenthal and his tech Giselle. They spend a lot of time with Joey and Dr. B was so kind and explained everything to me while I was in the room and he was examining him. He provided lots of options for labs and possibilities of what Joey might be going through. Throughout the week, I was updated on labs as they came in and they suggested a low-fat diet and a wonderful young lady on Friday night at 10 PM. was still working with me and chewy online to get Joey his food, I wish I could remember her name. I don't understand some of the reviews that say they can't get anybody. I've had no problem getting someone online or by phone so far. I'm very pleased with the treatment I have seen...the caring and knowledgeable Dr. Brookenthal, clean rooms, great staff and mainly taking good care of Joey. Always wanted to try Modern Animal as my dog is getting older and over the past 3 years, there have been certain instances where it's been nothing to worry and having to pay an exam fee has been very expensive. I got a waived fee for the plan and made an appointment for an exam. In the app, they do ask for medical records and I added the previous vet's info but it's best for you to upload or contact your past vet to send. We did have to wait but our doctor really took the time with our pet to be super thorough with her. Our dog is prone to skin issues and the doctor helped address our needs. She did say our pet needs a dental cleaning and the nurse told us that there are dedicated nurses for each pet that makes sure they're doing okay. That alleviates alot of my stress over dental cleaning as some pets dont take well to anesthesia. I will be setting an appointment for that soon. Everything was clean, and the doctor addressed all our concerns. I hope it continues to be just as amazing from here and out. read more

I brought my dog bean in for skin issues she was having and had the pleasure of seeing Dr mason who was accompanied by her vet tech Julie. I chose dr mason since her profile on the app mentioned she was interested in dermatology. This was such a great experience, not only were they kind to my dog but Dr mason did a very thorough check of my dog's irritated skin and vulva since she has been having issues in those areas. Julie also asked before giving my dog a treat and had hydrolyzed protein treats available since my dog is on a hydrolyzed diet. I was given different options for the treatment of my dog's skin from Dr mason and further information on how much the options would cost from Julie if the issues persisted.
