In an industry where finding contractors who consistently do what they promise can be challenging, James and KDOC Construction were exceptional. They delivered everything they committed to--on time, on budget, and with remarkable attention to detail. This was not an easy project or one designed simply to give us a fresh, clean appearance with new materials. KDOC Construction needed to replace beams decaying with dry rot, and they installed at least double the number of original joists to further strengthen the structure. The new balcony is rock solid. Safety and good looks, a winning combination! The quality of workmanship was superb. The materials used were clearly top-notch, and every aspect of the project reflected pride, craftsmanship, and professionalism. Just as impressive, the crew arrived on time every day for the entire three-week project and maintained a clean, organized worksite, carefully cleaning up at the end of each day. Working with James and his crew was an absolute pleasure. He communicated clearly throughout the project, was responsive to every question, and demonstrated the kind of integrity and professionalism that is increasingly rare today. He also has automated the quotation and billing side of his business. We never had to wait for information. We could not be happier with the final result. We used them for building ADU. They are not professional…read moreenough for a big job. We called field supervisor to look at the roof because it had weird bumps. They swore that it is fine, so we called the architect who did the designs and the architect had them re-do the whole roof line. The sub-contractor they used was terrible. Crooked wall, corner is not 90 degree, used the cheapest materials. Worst was that because the contractor and sub-contractor had a dispute, we became the victim. Sub-contractor put a lien on our house for $10,000 even though we paid for everything in full to the contractor. Sub-contractor said they did not get paid enough from the contractor, which is not our fault. We had to spend a few thousand dollars and hired a lawyer to remove the lien. We won the case and the court fee was charged to the sub-contractor. We wasted our time and we were stressed..... glad it's over. Worst experience ever!! Miller & Son did not help us at all.

My wife and I decided to do a minor update to our kitchen...new countertops, backsplash, sink,…read morerange hood cover, pendant lights, island staining. We engaged Miller & Sons Construction after meeting with them and a couple of other construction contractors. They met us at our home, provided detailed information as to what they would do and when, offered a competitive quote (not the lowest), and seemed like a good choice for our project. Their representative/Field Supervisor, Stacey Moore, assured us that our project was not too small for their portfolio (several other contractors DID tell us that our project did not warrant their interest due to size), informed us that our budget included a Project Manager who would regularly visit and make sure that things were being accomplished in an organized, efficient way, and was clear that, once we made our countertop slab selection, the project would take 2-3 weeks max. We did make our slab choice about 10 days later (work had already begun on the island staining), and we looked forward to an easy and swift completion of the work. THEN THE TROUBLE BEGAN! We were responsible for acquiring the new farmhouse sink and pendant lights that they would install as part of our agreement. We had the sink approved by both Ms. Moore and the designer that had been hired by Miller & Sons to wrangle all of the design and technical details. The sink and pendant lights arrived in a shipment from Build.com and we put both away in our garage as the sink wouldn't be needed until near the end. They demo-ed our existing kitchen countertops, sink, and cooktop shortly after the island had been stained, leaving us with a microwave as our cooking option. We ordered in a lot during this period. When they came to do final measurements for the island countertop they realized that the sink we had purchased (approved by TWO people at Miller & Sons) was too deep and would not fit into our island as currently designed. Making it fit would take more time and money so we opted for a different sink that met the design specifications. That slowed the project by nearly two weeks, as the original sink needed to be returned (an expense we had to bear) and the new sink needed to be purchased and received. Again, we did not have a functioning kitchen at this time and were anxious to get things back on schedule. Unfortunately that did not appear to be Miller & Sons focus. Our project languished for weeks at a time as either nothing got done or workers would come to our home and ask US what they were supposed to do that day. On TEN occasions we were informed that we needed to be present the next day to receive workers WHO NEVER SHOWED UP. On THREE more occasions workers showed up but could not do anything because a necessary prior step had not been completed (ie, a painter showed up to paint the new range hood cover which had not yet been installed.). TWICE they sent a crew to install the range hood and the new cover, but they left scratching their heads as to how they were going to do it! We were being held hostage in our home waiting for workers who either didn't show up or did NOTHING when they did! Our simple, little project took 98 DAYS TO COMPLETE! We were without a functioning kitchen (no water, no cooktop) for 49 DAYS! Once we did have water and a cooktop there were an additional 23 days where the kitchen was still in construction disarray, with equipment, protective paper, etc, strewn about our great room. Miller & Sons finally declared the project complete DESPITE our demands that they finish the paint touch-ups that were glaringly incomplete! It was about that time that they assigned us a NEW Project Manager! We expressed our dissatisfaction with the timeline and lack of supervision (we only saw our original Project Manager TWICE during the entire 98 days, and he eventually stopped returning our calls and texts) and asked them to consider a discount on our final payment WHICH THEY REFUSED TO HONOR! Their Office Manager/Accounts Receivable person, Brenda Urtez, offered neither understanding nor compassion for our plight, while wishing us a "blessed day." Her Christianity apparently ends at responsibility. We have several other small to medium size projects for our recently purchased home and we will use Miller & Sons Construction on NONE OF THEM. We feel they are disingenuous, deceiving, incompetent and not worthy of future consideration. BEWARE...hire Miller & Sons Construction at your own peril!

He did a great job all around, as did his crews, especially JUAN and SAULO for the fireplace. They were all personable, professional, and fast. Of the 4 projects, the fireplace was the least necessary, but my wife wanted a reward for doing the necessary stuff (Can't live in SoCal without proper AC) so I reluctantly agreed to it.
