I'm really not in the habit of writing bad reviews. I have to say that if I don't have a good experience somewhere I'll typically just not write the review at all. If you check my other reviews you'll notice there are hundreds of good reviews and only a sprinkle of bad ones. I feel that every business is entitled to a bad day or a random one off bad experience with a customer, and I'd rather use my yelp platform to help businesses and community succeed. With that said, here was my experience with Modern Electric, and I'll leave it to the clients to decide whether or not to choose them or go a different route. My regular electrician was out of town when an emergency came up at a property I rent out. I contacted Modern Electric about an electric line to a water heater that wasn't working. We noticed that it was actually burned a little and my handyman said that it looked like the circuit wasn't installed right from the beginning and was overloading. They said I would need a professional electrician because we would most likely need to run a new line to get it up to code etc. I will say that the man I spoke to responded quickly and was able to come out almost right away which was very nice, and the reason he is getting 2 stars instead of 1. He didn't inform me of any service fee, but I assumed there would be one anyway and with previous electricians I was prepared to spend between $75 and $100 just for the call itself and then whatever the cost to re-do whatever needed to be re-done. The person I spoke with and texted with did not give me a quote on the service call. In fact, no mention of payment was ever discussed prior to him going to the house. 5 minutes after he got there he texted me that we only needed a new water heater and just the little wire could possibly be replaced if I wanted, but I would need to have the water heater installed first (it's an electric water heater) and then he left. This didn't seem right but i took his word for it anyway and called my plumber. When my plumber got out there to inspect the area for a new heater, he said that we absolutely need a new line because the old one was very clearly on the wrong amps (or whatever it's called) and most likely would need a new line run from the main breaker in order for it to be up to code. He said he obviously can't install an electric water heater without proper electricity, so the line needed to be done first. This is essentially what my handyman said as well, and since Modern didn't seem to know what to do, or was unwilling to do it, I ended up calling another electrician to complete this work. After all this I was still willing to pay for the service call as I believe people should be paid for their time. I was the one who had to reach out to him to have him send me an invoice. He then told me it would be $160. I was STILL willing to pay this, but I thought I'd tell him my feedback instead of writing a bad review about it. I told him that $165 is a lot more than others charge and that he was actually wrong about what needed to happen. He responded with hostility and told me to never contact him again. Please see pictures of his response. Do I think he probably does a good job with simple things like ceiling fans or light fixtures? Sure. But if you have something a little more complex I would caution you to go somewhere else. I will also say here that his service call fee is $160 since it's listed no where online and he doesn't tell you up front how much it will be. He also told me to "keep the money, I don't need it." So he obviously doesn't need any new business and doesn't care to make a new or returning clients out of anyone because he's so very much booked and blessed. Best to go somewhere else where they do need the business, as they might take better care of you. read more

They screwed the house invested 10million, a joke, no common sense, no consideration and just so many mistakes. Loose wires, incorrect wiring and all wires should be inside of the wall but they missed so have many pipes outside of the wall. Constant tripping no marking on panel. read more

My mother was trying to have her ceiling fan replaced and hired a horrible handyman to do so. He pretty much left everything screwed up (lights not working, fan not reinstalled) so I sent out a request on Yelp for an electrician to help. Robert with Modern Electric was the first to respond. I set up the appointment for a Tuesday. Robert said he would arrive to the address between 8 and 9 am. He forgot about the appointment when we reached out at 9 am, but quickly made his way to the address. He saw the lights weren't working because of a tripped breaker (the horrible handyman said he checked this, but obviously missed this.) and he reinstalled the fan with no problem. But I later found out (reluctantly) he still charged his quoted price of $180 which was for fan installation plus fixing lighting wiring. Since the lighting wiring was fine and it was just a tripped breaker, it ended up being $180 just for fan installation. I, myself, paid another electrician only $70 for fan installation two weeks prior, but he was booked up for two weeks or I would've sent him to my mother's. Robert at Modern Electric does decent work, but is overpriced IMO. Still charging for something that doesn't need to be fixed is an unethical practice and a sure fire way to prevent customer retention. read more

Fast response to project request. Very fair price. We talked over what was needed, and he was able to install a new Telsa universal charger very quickly at the scheduled time. Also had a helper install a new outdoor light sensor that had gone bad. Would recommend for EV charger installation, and future electrical work. read more

My ceiling fan finally gave up the ghost. It was part of a matching set, and I didn't want to break up the pair without at least trying to revive it. But after months of living in the dark (thankfully, Vegas nights are bright enough to fake it), I gave in and posted a Yelp project request. Modern Electric replied quickly and gave it to me straight: don't waste time fixing the old one--just replace it. So I did some Amazon sleuthing and found a fan with Alexa support, six speeds (because apparently three isn't enough anymore), a color-temp controlled light (photographer here--yes, it matters), and updated the request. Modern Electric came in at two-thirds the price of the competition. They were fast, honest, and affordable--three things you rarely get at the same time. Fan arrived the next day. Modern Electric installed it the day after. The guy who came out was great--earnest, polite, asked the right questions, and made sure the install matched my existing setup (RIP to the original fan, now in the trash). No wobble.
