Called up today to get a quote. Lady in the office told me it's about 4 weeks for them to come out and take a look at the yard. I informed her the job is considerable, a complete rework. Informed her the current bid I have is for over $40k and my budget is at least that high. She informed me that if she could see the quote, then she would have someone come out sooner. I informed her, I'm more than happy to show but not the numbers as that kind of defeats the whole purpose of getting quotes. Her response was, "ok, thank you sorry have a nice day" and hung up. If the owner reads this, I suggest evaluating how this particular employee handles callers. read more

He helped with both designing the layout and the selection of materials. Estimates were provided and the whole process was smooth and transparent. Correspondence with Lisa regarding the project timeline was seamless and really showcased their customer service. We had to move the start date of our project multiple times due to scheduling conflicts on our part. Lisa and Tom were so accommodating and flexible! I want to give them 5 stars because they were nice and organized. It took months for estimate process and additional months to get on their schedule. Finally, we get work done , along with their recommended contractor for irrigation (wet tec who gets NEGATIVE 5 stars). Less than 6 months later, thousands of dollars of plants are dead, all groundcovers, succulents, horsetails, and a palm on their last leg. The yard never looked great, and I was so disappointed to have wasted the money, and I was picturing something much more lush and mid century during the presentation. I let that slide and just chocked it up to me, not picturing his vision from this small plan view and them insisting it would grow into itself. Irrigation is and has been working per their prescribed schedule they provided with an upscale of fertilizer. They outsourced oleanders who hacked up our trees with zero pruning and zero shaping. Dang, they didn't even top them at an even level. I have a new quote from landscape architect, and they state that their recommendations based on exposure, etc, are wrong, and these plants didn't stand a chance. Lessons learned. read more

I did not use this company for my landscaping. I definitely had good interactions with them in the beginning, and in discussing their plans with other homeowners who had their yards redone, the prices seemed to be fair. However, I chose not to move forward with them, as they required a non-refundable deposit before releasing the information I needed to submit to my HOA. I specifically asked if I would be able to get my deposit back if my HOA stated I could not proceed with those plans, and they said no. They did agree to reduce the deposit from 30% to 15%, but this was still thousands of dollars that I would not get back in the event my HOA denied the project. The HOA was asking for a drawing of the plans (the plan that had to be submitted to the HOA was to replace all current grass areas with turf so this was not an independent design created by the landscaper) and a sample of the turf that would be returned to the landscaper. After speaking with several of my neighbors in the community who transformed their landscapes to turf; contacting my HOA about if this was typical of contractors; and posting this situation on social media, I found that not a single person out of the 22 with whom I spoke had been required to enter into a contract such as this. I canceled moving forward with the project as I felt potentially losing several thousands of dollars to "rent" a piece of turf was unreasonable. read more

I hired this company in February to recreate our backyard. They accomplished that goal but their work has caused some unnecessary expense and additional work for me to correct. Specifically three plants have already died and two others are nearly dead, I have repaired two significant irrigation leaks in the poly tubing they installed, two of my existing water control valves are damaged (will need replaced), and an additional 8-10 cubic yards of decorative rock will need to be placed in order to cover the thin spots they left. I am surprised they did not schedule a follow up visit or even bother to call me to find out if I was satisfied with their work. My attempts to contact Tom resulted in him telling me my irrigation system was fine (which it was not) and finally referring me to a different company that handles irrigation repairs (additional expense). At a bill rate of roughly $1,000 per hour I expected better customer service. read more

John and Tom were great with the initial assessment although they will definitely try to up sell you. This is Vegas so that's a given. Amy worked the schedule. She is great! Give her a raise because she is the only reason why we ultimately chose this company. Professional and courteous. Our backyard landscaping looks good. Not sure if its worth the price we paid for it. -1 for communication because they were scheduled to come certain days. Of course we know about rain delays, etc. But on the day of, no one came and I had to ask them when they were coming. Apparently it was rescheduled to the next day. Not a big deal but if they would have let us know, we wouldn't be waiting around and would not have taken the day off from work. Just an inconvenience. -1 for Lisa. I'm not sure who this lady is. I think she is another lady at the front desk. First time I called this company to schedule an appointment she was very rude like I was ruining her morning. Second time I tried to call she said "hello" and then hung up the phone. Third time, I was told I was going to get an email of my receipt. I have yet to receive an email from "Lisa." Oh, and they were suppose to do a final "walk through" yeh okay. After the last check they're gone with the wind. When we began looking for a landscape company for our new home, we were able to see a neighbor's backyard design which was completed by Modern Landscape. We called Tom Hoff right away, met with him to go over our vision and he got back to us within a week with a complete landscape design which was ready to be submitted to our HOA for their approval. His ideas for our backyard were amazing. They built a beautiful Belgard Country Manor retaining wall, extended our paver stone patio to go up to the wall, added lighting, decorative rock and boulders, put in flagstone on the sides of our home and added a water fountain feature. The drip irrigation system was even set up with a fertilizer tank to continuously feed all of the plants they installed. To say we are satisfied with the finished product is an understatement. I don't like writing negative reviews, but here goes. It's been 3 years since we had our back yard scaped by Modern Landscaping. The yard was nothing but dirt and rocks when we moved in so we hired them to fix it up. We have two small children so we wanted some grass as well as some desert-scape so Tom came up with a very good design which included pavers, bushes, trees, and a nice patch of grass. The pavers went in great and the design was very good, which is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. The problem i have is the lawn. When we reviewed the proposal Tom was specific about providing a very good quality sod - very thick, coming in the morning of install from southern CA. What we got was paper thin sod instead, who knows where it came from because I've never seen sod that thin at the local nursery. We've had nothing but problems with it since installation. I've realized two huge mistakes made during the installation - the ground was not treated at all - i could have gone down to Star Nursery and had them deliver a bunch of sod and just lay it down on the dirt. I paid a landscaper to put it in right. Anyone who lives in Vegas knows the dirt is hard and it's hard to grow grass-again why I hired a landscaper instead of doing it myself. I expected them to till up the dirt at least. Maybe add some kind of soil or something. Nope, tossed the sod right on top of the rocks and rock-hard dirt. Second mistake is the lawn is not sloped properly. On one half of the lawn, the sides both slope toward the middle, causing a bowl effect. We've had fungus issues every year because the water pools in the middle of the lawn. And while i have fungus in the middle, the outside is dry and dying because the water won't soak into the rock-hard dirt, it all flows into the middle. I'm about ready to tear it out and put in fake grass. Only thing keeping me from doing that is my kids need for some soft grass to play on. In summary: Design and pavers were very good. Lawn was and is still a disaster. read more
