I had an extremely negative experience with Modern Market. I placed an order for a six o'clock pickup and arrived at that time. I waited for quite a while and finally asked how long it would be before my order was ready. I was concerned because I had ice-cream in my car and knew it was melting in the Austin heat. One of the employees told me that they were waiting on the steak to finish cooking and it would be another four minutes. I waited another ten minutes and asked if it was about done. Another employee, which I believe was a manager, looked at me and said she didn't have any idea when the steak would be finished and said she'd give me a refund. Since I had hungry people waiting for dinner, I said I would wait. I finally received my order and noticed one item was missing. I had to go back in and wait for that item to be prepared. I ended up with cold pizza, melted ice-cream and a overall terrible experience. read more

I ate here this past sunday and order the Apples and Pears waffle. I'm not one for sweets but I really wanted a waffle that wasn't plain so I went ahead and tried it. It was beyond delicious. It wasn't too sweet and it's served with a small side of greek yogurt which I just smeared over the entire waffle with the syrup. It's a really good size portion, although I'm 5'2 weighing 120 so maybe I'm lying. I got a glass of the orange and it was also good. The pulp was perfect. Was excited about this place opening up near where I live and took friends there yesterday to check it out for dinner. Was looking forward to having a fresh and healthy dinner but was shocked by the nutritional information provided for their menu. It was difficult to find anything under 500 calories or 40 grams of fat. We ended up ordering a few of the healthier side dishes as our meals, much to the chagrin of the unimpressed staff who took our orders. Typically it's a good thing to have the calorie, etc. Info available but for this place it backfired. Too bad! I really wanted to love it! read more

I have very mixed feelings about here. In the mornings for breakfast, it has taken about 25 minutes for my food. The portion sizes aren't very big (I'm still hungry.) I was also charged a good bit of money for a 2 oz cup of salsa on the side. The food is good and the service is nice but I don't come back. read more

No complaints at all. They have a variety of foods for those eat eat meat and animal products and those who don't. My boyfriend had the BBQ pizza with the fiesta salad and inhaled the entire thing. I had a chicken sandwich and it was fantastic. Even the little bite of salad they put on the side was great. Modern Market was clean, had plenty of seating, and we got our food quickly, so it was a pretty straightforward visit. We're definitely coming back because I want to try the Wintergreen salad and the dessert pizza! read more

This place is GOOD. We stopped by after a workout yesterday and both had the steak-it was delicious. I had the chipotle steak sandwich on multigrain and the tomato basil soup...it's just...so...good. You can tell the ingredients are fresh. Oh and you can also get a caffe of wine for $8.00. Can't beat that! This place is a great healthy option without it being a salad bar :) read more

Found this place on Yelp and it's super good! They have a lot of options, friendly staff and very reasonably priced. I really love that they have the nutrition facts on all of their menu items. I had one of their breakfast sandwiches and it was delightful. They have plenty of seating and parking as well. I will definitely be coming back. Also the coffee is quite delicious! read more

Tried this place for the first time today. My husband and I were there with 5 kids. The ordering process was a little confusing, but the menu was great. Kids meals came with a drink and were generously portioned. Two of our kids split a whole pizza (kids meals are half a pizza) and they agreed it was really good. My husband's sandwich (chipotle steak) was not thrilling. He wouldn't order again. I ordered the pick a protein and two sides deal. I had steak with chimichurri sauce (SO GOOD) with arugula blue cheese salad and roasted veggies as my sides. All were amazing, generously portioned and a good price. Drink options are unique and yummy. My kids really enjoyed the cucumber mint lemonade. Negatives--the sides on one kids meal were messed up but staff quickly fixed. The bathrooms are clean but smell REALLY weird. I'm guessing they use some odd organic cleaner. It was genuinely difficult to stay in the room long. Other than that we had the usual eye roll with the millennial staff that are awkward at conversation and human interaction (eye contact people!!!) read more

Modern Market has awful customer service and the food is not anything to brag about. I started out going to the location of off Great Hills and found that all of their employees were extremely rude. For instance, when an employee was waiting for myself and a friend to decide what we wanted to order, she literally leaned over the cash register and acted put out/like she was about to fall asleep. I decided to try them again and order breakfast to-go from the Westlake location as it is very near my morning commute. I placed the order with someone on the phone who was again extremely unprofessional, talking aloud while taking my order saying things like, "ugh why did it do that!". She asked what I wanted twice and didn't seem to know the menu items, but finally stated a pickup time for the order. Needless to say, when I arrived at the location to pick up my order, they had zero record of it. I will not be returning. read more

Great place, thankfully close by. Probably my most frequented take out place here in Austin. The food is very good, can get a little pricey for the portion size but always tastes very fresh. Very nice people work here. I usually order the "farmers salad" which has chicken, corn, strawberries and other really good things in it. Also have had the steak here and it's really tasty too, but the portion is skimpy for the price. Great place! Joined in on the soft opening and was quite impressed. Ordered half a Thai coconut salad and half a prosciutto/pear/arugula pizza. Both were amazing! While today was on the house according to the receipt it would've cost about $13+tax which I thought was quite decent for the amount and quality of food. Took my niece to Modern Market for lunch. There were quite a few customers around 2:30PM. For $17 we had 2 drinks, 1/2 goat cheese/eggplant sandwich with purple potato chips and 1/2 BLT sandwich with sweet potato chips. Sizes were fine for lunch. Had expectations of thick, rubbery eggplant, but this sandwich was wonderful, flavorful with soft, fresh veggies and goat cheese. My niece loved her BLT which had plenty of the B and also avocado instead of mayo. My purple chips were great; her sweet potato chips were a little too sweet for my taste. The receipt showed how many calories and how much fat were in the sandwiches which is helpful. Staff were very helpful in explaining the menu. They have gluten free cookies too but didn't try any cookies. Will definitely go back. read more

While the ingredients are quality, the preparation is not. Eggs and pre made waffles are served on cold plates. The potatoes are well seasoned but are under cooked. Plates waiting for orders with potatoes already on them could be seen on the prep line. This can only result in cold potatoes. The bacon was good. This was my first visit. I really really wanted to love this. A BOGO deal brought me in. The menu on the website was gorgeous, I wanted everything on it. Prepared with my choices I went in to the restaurant at 2:30-ish for a late lunch. I ordered the Fresno Mint Salad - $9.00+ with NO additional protein added, and then a Pepe Pizza to take home to the kids. I asked for the dressing on the side, but when the salad arrived it looked dressed, or maybe it had just been sitting around all day - limp greens, really soggy, the tomatoes tasted terrible - and no mint!! either way not a fan, will never order this again. As I was so disappointed in the salad I snagged a slice of the kid's pie, and that too tasted strange and gamey, but the crust was good. Probably won't come back.. sad experience overall. read more

This is a good news/bad news review. My wife's "Sunrise Bowl" was excellent. Eggs done way she likes them and the greens dressed perfectly. She really enjoyed her breakfast. My "Chipotle Bacon Sandwich" was a waste of $7.50. It was all bread/bun and zero flavor. Couldn't even taste the bacon. Should have taken the insides out of the bun but then that's just a bacon and eggs breakfast I could have done at home. It's also one of those "order at the counter and food is delivered to table" places. All accessories (forks, knives, salt, pepper, napkins etc.) are self acquired at central counter so "service" is how good you are it. I'm not going back but my wife will. read more

I cannot believe the salad served to me. Really. I cant. The salad was mostly romaine lettuce. The lettuce was bad. As in pink and slimy bad. I have no idea what this salad tasted like as there is no way I would eat that. I asked for a refund. I was skeptical about the entire menu after looking in the open kitchen. I have celiac and hate eating away from home. During our stay in Austin we ate there 6 times. I never got sick, always enjoyed the meal except for my 3 cheese pizza. I expected to see bubbly cheese, it was skimpy, but not awful. And, 5 out of 6 meals to have one disappointing, dish was reasonable, especially since the food is fresh from the farm. The eggplant goat sandwich was excellent. We enjoyed the tofu with the ginger dressing, several of the salads and the speedy service. I hope they come to Pearland, TX sometime soon. I would eat out more often. read more

A new addition to the restaurants in the Great Hills/Arboretum area in the space formerly occupied by Elevation Burger. Interior is clean and modern with a view of the kitchen area. Illumination is bright and energy is high on a Wednesday night a day after the grand opening. Ordered the Basil Chicken Sandwich on Ciabata. Very fresh tasting, basil aioli was just right and even the tomato had flavor. My dining partners ordered the Flatiron salad and the Flank Steak with mac n cheese and arugula side salad. Again, everything was very fresh and just the right cook on the steak slices. It appears that most of the ingredients are locally sourced, nice touch that adds a bit to the price, but well worth it. Very friendly and informative staff. Nice first visit, will be back and update. read more

Visited for breakfast on a weekend morning. Not busy at all, which should have been the first sign. Being gluten-free/dairy-free I don't expect much from breakfast locations but Modern Market at least offers gluten-free toast and some other sides. Husband ordered the chorizo breakfast sandwich, which he said was pretty good. I ordered GF toast, breakfast potatoes and bacon. First, the "toast" was just bread that wasn't toasted and I had to go back to the counter to get butter and jam since it wasn't included on our tray. The bacon was just meh and the potatoes had such a strong chili powder seasoning that I only ate half of them. On top of all of it, the coffee was terrible. I'm giving 2 stars because my husband's food was decent but definitely would not return. read more

Ok. This is going to be a long one. I've been a couple of times to this place and I was never very impressed. It has always been a 3 stars kind of place. But today they went rapidly to 1 star. I placed an order through Favor. First problem is that the menu in the app doesn't match their website. To be fair I don't know whose problem is that. So back to my order: They don't sell the dish I ordered anymore. Ok. I choose another one. Next problem: So I'm looking at the restaurant website to check the descriptions. Homestyle plates says "Our Homestyle Plates offer up your choice of protein with two scratch-made sides". So what do you understand by that? Me, that the plate includes 2 sides. So when the runner asked me which sides I wanted I told him which ones. When I saw the receipt they actually charge the 2 sides separate. I did not want 2 sides so I wouldn't have ordered if I had known they were not included. Later when I called to complain I discover a little note in Ingredients and nutritional information list that says "sides not included". WTH? So which one is it? Next problem, and this is the really bad one. I finally get my order and my pizza has a hair on it. And it's not a short hair that can be missed. I'm talking about a long 12 inches dark hair!!! GROSS. Big time GROSS. So I called the restaurant to complain about the menu mishap and the hair. The lady was neither helpful nor friendly. She kept arguing the websites clearly states that sides are not included. And that I should call Favor to solve the problem because they are the client not me. And I will, believe me. But both mistakes were made by Modern Market not Favor. I will not go back to this place. read more

I have had one of my most enjoyable eating experiences In recent memory. MM is everything it promises to be. They are simple yet delicious. Comforting and wholesome and yet clean and innovative. With a variety of great food on the menu and drinks to spare I had a mouthful of joy. I will be going back to see if my tastebuds explode as they did the first few times I went. After going through a clean eating challenge...this was a fabulous option for clean eating! I had the combo with the Farmers Salad and White Chicken Green Chili. My friend had the Thai salad and Curry soup. I think my choice was the tastier option! Looking at other people's choices, everything looked so good, especially the pizzas.
