I had several shingles end up in my yard as a result of strong winds. I reached out to this company and received a phone call right away. They were quite prompt. I knew there was another few days of rain coming so I asked about the use of a drone which I was told they would use. By the time I had given my information and spoke with two different people, I found out they do not have drones or use them to access roof damage. instead they use Google satellite images. I was disappointed in so much of my time being wasted. I agree with the reviewer named Mandy - communication was inconsistent. I later reached out for clarification but received no response. Our roof of 25 years had run out its course so we contacted a few roofing companies for quotes. Modern Roofing was one of the vendors that offered financing which is what we wanted if the rates were acceptable. We looked over all the estimates and decided to go with Modern Roofing who also included new gutters which we also needed. The new roof has 50 year asphalt shingles with guarantee for same. We get high winds and lots of ocean fog in our neighborhood so it was important for us that the new roof be strong and durable. They even added some ventilation for our garage which we had very little airflow prior so this was an added bonus. They have just completed our project and everything looks great. Thanks Sam! Our Project Manager, Sam was professional and courteous from the moment we engaged his company for an estimate. Once we agreed to the terms he promptly sent his team to our house to cover the roof where the wind had blown off a section of shingles right before a storm hit. Then the roof was completed before the next rains and finally the gutter were custom manufactured on site to complete the work. I cannot say how wonderful Modern Roofing is, I had a sub standard roofing company come out before and they messed up my patio roof (leaks, uneven cuts). I then called Henry and they came out very quickly to give an estimate Henry came out and explained exactly what was damaged and what needed to be fixed. They were able to fix my patio roof and made it look awesome! No more leaks, everything is cut straight and looks 100% professional. The most amazing part is they offered an outstanding warranty. Back in 2017 I had my flat roof replaced by Modern roofing with a 5 year workmanship warranty and 10 years for the product. The following year it leaked. They came back and did a repair (I never saw them do the repair- they said they did it when I wasn't home) and it still leaked. I called back the following year and they never returned my calls. Then Covid happened, etc. Last year I called again and they never returned my calls. Why you ask am I leaving a review now? When I went up to sweep it off and possibly tarp it before the "hurriquake" I found that it peeling and lifting and I'm basically going to have to start from scratch because clearly their warranty means nothing. So all in all after the job it's never not leaked and their materials and/ or workmanship is garbage and their customer service is lousy. read more

I had a leak in my roof, that my contractor couldn't find. So I called a few roofing companies to get estimates. Mena, from Modern Roofing came to inspect, and he was the only one to go into the attic space to see if there were any problems underneath the roof. That impressed me, along with the price and the 20% discount if the decking needed to be replaced. Other companies offer 5% to 10%. Well, my decking had to be replaced, so that was helpful. Mena was the project manager, and was there every day to check on the work and answer my questions. He was great to work with, and so was the crew of workers. Don't hire these guys. First, I have evidence that their sales guy intentionally overcharged me. My roof is only 700 sq feet, but we found out he billed it at 1100 sq feet. He hid this from us and refused to give us a fully filled-out invoice or receipt for the work ("I'll get that to you later," "I'll get that to you next time" etc etc), but we finally got the office to email us a copy when we were trying to get a cool roof rebate from the city. Our rebate was denied because they city said we were claiming a larger roof sq footage than what's possible. Modern Roofing has ignored my calls and emails about this, so I'm probably going to have to take it up with the BBB. Second, their work is incredibly sloppy. Our flat roof has tile edging, and they put it back on so poorly that every contractor who has come to our house since has noted concerns about it. They've left huge gaps between the tiles - so big that birds are now nesting in them, and we're going to have to bring animal control out to fix that. They also damaged a lot of the stucco/walls of the house and didn't do anything to fix the damage or adequately cover it. They didn't overhang the tiles properly and these gaps in the stucco and even bits of flashing paper are showing through, which is almost certainly going to result in water coming through our walls. We've been trying for months to get Modern Roofing to come back out and fix this sloppy work. First guy who came told us he'd have his manager call us to schedule repairs; we never heard back, and after weeks of chasing, we found out he actually told his manager that everything was fine. So they sent out a second team, who sloppily slapped some stucco over a couple of the worst gaps in the tiles and left. Didn't even look at one entire side of the house. Like others have mentioned, their communication sucks and their workers leave a ton of mess behind. During our re-roofing the crew was always late, sometimes by as much as 4 hours, and we'd have to make multiple calls to find out where they were and what was going on. More than once, the inspector showed up to find no roofers there and no ladder left for them to get onto the roof, and the inspector threatened to fine us if the roofers weren't there the next time he came back. They threw tons of debris into our backyard and didn't even attempt to clean it up. We have dogs, so we told the roofing crew to let him know first if they needed to get back there so he could bring the dogs inside. They didn't listen, and slammed on one of our gates so hard to force it open that it had to be repaired and now hangs crooked. We showed Louie, our sales guy/contractor the damage, and he literally just walked away and ignored us. Twice during their work they opened the backyard gates without letting us know first and our dogs got out into the neighborhood. Luckily our neighbors helped us find them both times and my husband put locks on the gates to keep the crew from causing any more damage. Take your money literally anywhere else. Modern Roofing is sloppy and unethical. read more

My wife and I purchased a home in Burbank, CA in 2018 and we needed touch ups done to our roof. Modern Roofing seemed like a good choice so I booked an appointment/evaluation with them. The owner, Mike Donnell, came out to my home and gave an estimate on the cost and the type of repairs that would need to be done. He was personable, accurate, and gave me a fair rate. The issue is that he never visited my residence again. I feel like he was trying to make the sell so he provided a great first impression but was seemingly hands off afterwards. Mike sent a crew out to implement the repairs. They seemed to have done a good job and we were satisfied with their services. Roughly a year and a half later, we noticed leaking within a door frame leading into our kitchen. It was very apparent that this patch up was missed and that water was leaking into our crawl space attic. I contacted Modern Roofing ("Ana", Modern Roofing admin) as this was clearly something they missed since the area that was leaking was not within their initial scope of work. They were responsive and sent out one technician to address it. The technician arrived quickly but due to the language barrier, it was very difficult to communicate with him regarding the leak. He seemingly fixed the leak but I could not understand what he did exactly. In any case, I was satisfied that it was fixed. Roughly, a year from the initial leak "fix", I noticed that the same area was leaking again. I again contacted "Ana" and expressed my frustration that this issue was not actually fixed. They were slower this time in responding to me. They ultimately sent out the same technician and a similar process followed where I could not understand him but he had seemingly fixed the leak. He installed a hideous metal plate over the leak area on our roof in order to divert the rainfall away from the leak area. A very amateur, lazy attempt to "fix" a roof leak. Anyone that understands rain knows that it doesn't fall directly downwards! A month later, after another rainy day, I noticed that the leak was still not fixed. I sent "Ana" this email - "Hi Ana, Hope you're doing well. After the rain last night, our door frame is still leaking. The technician that just came to our residence a month ago assured us that this would not continue to happen. Would you please send your team out to permanently fix this leaking? This would be the third time Modern Roofing is attempting to fix this issue. If this issue cannot be resolved, please let us know so that we can start working with another roofing company. Thanks" They provided no response to this email. They clearly do not want my business and if you run into an issue after their initial "fix" they will simply not want to deal with you anymore. In regards to them actually providing permanent solutions, they do not have these solutions and will give up eventually. ------------------ The owner provided the following response - "Your warrantied expired on 7/23/21, for the $1,435 tile repairs you purchased. We have in writing from you on Dec. 30, 2021 that we out as a courtesy & fixed other leaks at no additional cost as we really value our customers. Ana no longer works here since last year. Please contact the number on your contract or stop by our office as its only 10 mins away from your house. We have been in business since 2002 here in Burbank, and warranty all our work. Looks like your trying to get something for free. A mature professional would not go down to this low level as you have. Please let me know if you would like to meet in person or need me to send you documentation. Thank you James " I provided a one star review since ownership is saying "A mature professional would not go down to this low level as you have". What a great way to address your customers! I'm not trying "to get something for free" as I have offered to pay for services to get this leak fixed by your "crew" not the individual who cannot fix it. You did not do me any favors by coming to my residence twice to not fix the issue. Furthermore, you initially offered to fix this leak for free, as you stated previously.
