I'm pretty simple when it comes to my hair, whether its short or long, I like it straight with nothing fancy. But not at Modern Tekniques, the stylists listened to my preferences, which are pretty simple, and gave me exactly what I wanted. While they were able to easily cater to my simple wants/needs, they are also skilled in a variety of other services including fancy cuts, extensions, blow outs, coloring, and hair painting (Hair painting is an interesting alternative to hair coloring, while at MTS I actually got to see a girl getting this service, worth checking out if you're into hair color). They also offer later hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 8 PM, which is perfect for an after work visit. The salon itself is easy to locate, right on Broad Street in Shrewsbury. 1st impression: the inside of the place is very clean. The staff are very nice and welcoming. first time fully changing my hair to blonde and catherine did my hair so nice and she really dedicated her time on my hair. the fact that they really do take care of you and not other salon where as its " half done or half fast boom done " like ew nah. MTS really do a good job, i showed Catherine a picture of what color i wanted and she went base what i hope for . When they wash your hair just tell them not to go too rough. The girl that did my hair was Sarah and she was excellent. The woman at the desk not so much. I had a Groupon and she seemed annoyed by that. Then I was told I owed $25 for the blowout. I was never informed of this prior. When I questioned it, I was told when I called the girl asked if I wanted it dried. Again never any mention of a charge. I purchased a Groupon in June that was not suppose to expire until Sept 30th. I called to make an appointment and was told by Holly that they were no longer accepting Groupons and supposedly the salon told Groupon to remove them from their web site over two months ago. Okay - but my Groupon was purchased before then. It didn't matter - they weren't honoring them anymore. I was told they would honor the face value of the Groupon only. I paid $95 for services worth $190 why would I want only the face value? The whole point of purchasing a Groupon was to be able to try a new salon at a discounted price to see if I liked it or not. Thankfully Groupon refunded my money and I'm able to take advantage of an offer from another salon. I guess Modern Tekniques doesn't want or need new clients. read more
