We were staying in the Gaslamp for a mini vacation and were looking at coffee spots near our hotel. At first we were confused because this business goes by another name (The Invigatorium.) We decided to give it a try and unfortunately we were not very impressed. I'll start by saying there is nothing wrong with the service or the space itself. The decorations are unique, and this is anything but your average coffee spot- style wise. The coffee, however is very mediocre. My cinnamon honey latte with banana cold foam tasted mostly like milk with not much else going on. Usually I run into the issue of the espresso tasting burnt but rarely do I not taste espresso (or any other flavor for that matter) at all. The banana cold foam was also a disappointment. It was a thin strip of watery foam that just tasted sweet, with no banana flavor of any kind. My partner's cardamom latte had similar taste issues, and both of our drinks were complete letdowns for us. I threw my drink away almost 3/4ths full and found it was not worth even trying to struggle through. I can't recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent coffee spot in SD. Sure, the space itself is quirky and has a charm, but I've had better coffee at Dunkin. I don't believe I will be back in the future.

It has great coffee! When I visit, I will often buy a bag to go! I love that there are vegan food options too.

I like that Goldchild Coffee Roasters has their own character and way of operating compared to the newer shops that have been appearing. This coffee spot is known to put more care and create an experience for the people that come in and with the quality that came to me-- I'm really grateful because it felt like I was getting my moneys worth! I didn't see any specialty drink (you know like lattes with delicious syrups). So, I decided to get an Iced Latte. They mentioned that their iced drinks don't come with ice-- it's shaken! I really liked this aspect because I could walk for hours and my drink wouldn't get watered down at all! The to go cup actually felt really heavy when I compared it to my friend's matcha. It was interesting as it was just a cold plain latte-- something in the way they extracted the drink must have made it really full bodied! The latte was smooth, well balanced (ratio of milk), and the flavor of the espresso really came through. It was beautiful, really delicious! My friend ordered a Matcha with a little bit of vanilla and he really really enjoyed it. My other friend had the Japan Cold Brew and was mind blown with the flavor as he thought he was just getting a plain ol' cold brew. The owner swung by to check on how things were and told us a little bit about the place and what she recommends we try next time based off our ordering choice. It was very sweet of her and I can't wait to come by next time! I really wanted to order "for here," but time didn't let me, so that's def for next visit as well. Next time, I'll try "Numbers" Latte or their most popular, "Morning in Stockholm," these two were recommended by the owner! She mentioned these flavors are also good with the matcha. I heard great things about their pastries as well, which I will be ordering next (: highly recommend Goldchild Coffee Roasters!

My vanilla latte had good flavor, but it wasn't as hot as I would have liked so you may want to request it to be extra hot (didn't need to leave lid off or use a sleeve). I wouldn't order the croissant again as it didn't seem fresh. Wasn't terrible, but seemed to be like a day old pastry. The staff was friendly and my order came out quick. There wasn't free wifi available (or I didn't find a sign with a password for the wifi), so this might not be a spot to do remote work.

We got our order within 10min. The açaí bowl was perfect with strawberries, bananas, granola and a honey drizzle. For the price, you get a generous portion that was absolutely filling. The female barista never smiles, performs like you're bothering her or maybe thats her resting face. She was there the third week of May. This is my second time visiting and she still gives an annoyed vibe. She was the only worker there so maybe she was overwhelmed. I let it go the first time but two days later she was with a second worker and still had a sour attitude. On the other hand, the cashier was exceptionally nice and very helpful. I will continue to purchase beans because for organic prices and the quality they are a cut above, however I don't like my latte served with a side of bad attitude. Santee.
