Cute coffee shop located across the street from Petco Park. Prices are reasonable for coffee plus they have some pastries as well as hot food items. My vanilla latte had good flavor, but it wasn't as hot as I would have liked so you may want to request it to be extra hot (didn't need to leave lid off or use a sleeve). I wouldn't order the croissant again as it didn't seem fresh. Wasn't terrible, but seemed to be like a day old pastry. The staff was friendly and my order came out quick. There wasn't free wifi available (or I didn't find a sign with a password for the wifi), so this might not be a spot to do remote work. read more

I don't make it down to this Achilles Coffee Roasters location too often as I find legal parking here to be a nightmare, especially on game days but when I do make it down, it is certainly one of my favorite downtown gems. I love that their menu names pay tribute to cities across San Diego and beyond. It always sparks ideas for my next little day trip while I'm sipping one of their 8 delicious latte options (as I am a loyal oat milk latte lady). It's also the perfect spot for anyone who enjoys discovering new coffee blends and figuring out what flavor notes they truly love in their cup with their pour-overs from 12 different regions. The menu items I've had were always yummy and generously portioned. I usually go for the Achilles Scramble with chicken sausage - hearty enough for two to share; and when I'm in the mood for something sweet, the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes hit that craving perfectly without being too sweet. If it weren't for the location forcing you to walk a couple blocks or fight the bus lane and Petco Park parking limitations on game days, I'd make my way over to this location far more often. read more

In trying new coffee spots on a weekend walk, a friend of mine and I decided to try Achilles. They offer seating inside and outside. There was a great open air feel inside. We tried the cinnamon vanilla latte. It was great, heavy on the cinnamon. I got a jalepeño bagel, and I was asked if I wanted my order to go. My bagel was conveniently cut in half with cream cheese so it wad easy to walk and eat. Poor customer service two visits in a row. Additionally, Promo emails go out, but are not honored online or in the store. At this point I tried to use a bogo offer I have received twice in the last week. The promo code is not accepted online nor in the store, even when I show the email. What a waste of time. When I wanted to look at bagged coffees for gifts, a table was in the way, and an employee told me flatly there is nowhere in this restaurant to move that table. No "I'm sorry for the inconvenience" or anything. I physically couldn't access the bagged coffees. So rude. I won't be back. I drove all the way from Imperial Beach to shop in that store, and was going to continue even without the Bogo. But staff was so rude that I just left. I had an appointment downtown, and I happened to park in front of the cafe. It was somewhat gloomy sprinkly morning. And Achilles orange umbrellas caught my attention right away. I ordered a large hot Honey-Cinnamon with a Harbor Island Egg Sammie. The drink was ok, BUT the Sammie tho! Pleasantly surprised. The buttery grilled brioche the ooey gooey white cheddar cheese and the heirloom tomatoes. YUM! Service was mediocre. Not rude. Just not as chipper as your local Starbucks. I had this place planned out ahead of time to visit non my trip since there was something my super picky toddler would eat, before our trek to the zoo. At 7:16a this morning the lights were off and the doors locked, which the sign up saying they open at 7a. Major wrench in my day. The only other coffee shop that was along the way didn't have food. Full disclosure, I am a caffeine fiend. Coffee is my biggest dopamine hit and keeps me going on the daily. Achilles Coffee was strong enough to give me, a hardened caffeine addict, jitters. Not like bad jitters though. There was some serious energy packed into that cold brew. The Aztec was delicious too. Nutty shaved Mexican cocoa (think nibs) swimming around with cream, cinnamon, brown sugar, and super smooth cold brew. It went down easy and probably too fast. Super super cute place we were looking for a coffee shop where we could sit with our dogs and not only did they accommodate us with plenty of comfortable outside Patio seating but they also provided us for a water dog bowl and treats for our babies! This is a cafe that is very close to the San Diego Convention Center. It was very convenient to stop by here for brunch when we were at SDCC. I ordered the mocha and the everything bagel with cream cheese and I thought the meal was decent. The mocha was a tad bit sweet but next time I could ask for less syrup. The bagel was okay - the bagel overall was a bit on the chewier side, as in I wish the crust were a little more toasted but that's okay, I still finished the bagel.
