    The Village Cafe Special
    Kiki L.

I had such a great experience here! I was greeted right away, which instantly made me feel welcomed. I ordered the Village Cafe Special, and it was delicious. I also appreciated that they asked what type of milk I preferred instead of assuming -- it's the little details that make a difference. Service was quick, and every employee I interacted with was polite and friendly. Definitely a spot I'd come back to again!

Phenomenal! We stayed down here for a weekend and wanted a quick, fresh breakfast to start my morning! Highly recommend. Cute, quaint coffee shop. Good food. Great coffee atmosphere. L

One of my favorite coffee shops and breakfast places in San Diego. Affordable and delicious. The açaí bowl in particular absolutely rocked. So fresh and clean. The management team is fantastic, kind, and friendly. They remembered our order from the day before.

Went early Saturday morning and loved the cute, spacious vibe. The staff was super friendly! I had a dirty chai latte and an açaí bowl--both were delicious. It's a great spot for an easy, quick morning grab or to sit and enjoy a relaxed breakfast. Only thing to note is there's no WiFi, so it's more of a place to unplug and enjoy your meal.

Amazing experience! Q and Jill were so attentive and kind and the coffee was so delicious! I got the village cafe special and it was perfect! The coffee shop has such a cute vibe and lots of places to sit and relax or work on your computer.

Order is always made fresh. I've never had a disappointing experience. Service is fast even if it's only one person running the whole store! I see so much love and effort into not just the coffee, but the food as well. It's a simple menu but the flavors are definitely there! Besides the coffee, conversation with the owner is always wholesome. The way he can bring out and share the flavors through his culture and life experiences..is amazing! He will adjust to your tastebuds! I'm always served coffee with perfect sweetness, not too sweet, just perfect. Dining area is always clean and chill spot to do some work in peace. I'm indecisive and the owner always helps me decide and he always gets my cravings right! If you live in downtown this is definitely a go to spot for you! I believe he does catering as well! So I'll definitely keep that in mind for events in the future!!

I can't say enough good things about this hidden gem! From the moment you walk in, you're treated like family. The service is truly exceptional always friendly, attentive, and making you feel right at home. And let me tell you, their breakfast croissant is absolutely delicious! It's the perfect way to start your day along w a nice iced coffee. This place is more than just a coffee shop; it's a place where you can relax, connect, and feel like you belong. Highly recommend , the owner is amazing(:

This is my go to weekday work space. It's a nice little spot, actually the second location of the cafe series. The other one is only a block away. I like this place because they have coffee in the morning and early afternoon, and then they close for a couple hours. Reopening for evening time with the addition of hookah. The location is great for east village locals. Just a walk away from the bars and a lot of apartments and condos in the area. The service is really good. It's usually annoying trying to get new coals, but the guy who I think was the owner, was really on top of making sure the hookah was going smoothly. I haven't tried the coffee,(not really a coffee drinker) but I hear it's really good. They have a bathroom in the back that's clean. The new decor and the chill customer base makes for a nice spot to pull out the laptop and get some stuff done. Unlike some of the other hookah lounges close by that blast music, I can actually hear the conferences that I have to be in. There are couches all around for comfy seating. Good job. Of course I'll be back. Great addition to the area.

The best food, açaí bowls, and coffee are at this place! From the moment you walk in, it makes you feel at home. 100% recommended!! Great atmosphere, good music, and fantastic service.

This has become my go to spot since I been in downtown. I'm always acknowledged and feel welcomed every time I stop by. I have become quite the regular now. I have tried a few things off the menu but the matcha and breakfast sandwich has easily become my favorite thing, it's always delicious! The place itself is really quiet and cute! They renovated the interior and it's very nice for conversations and or just studying. Definitely recommend this place for anyone!

It's got the decor, chairs, and art to match. Jessica was our server and she was amazing! She gave us lots of suggestions on what to try and what is on the menu since it was my first time here. She recommended the bloody Mary flight so did grab that to try! We also ordered the biscuits and gravy to share and orange juice. The portions are so large! So I am glad we decided to share the biscuits and gravy but let me run down each thing. Bloody Mary Flight: Honestly every single one was amazing. My favorite was definitely the pickle Mary! Everything tasted so delicious and was garnished beautifully. Well worth the 22 dollars. Biscuits and Gravy: Absolute perfection of comfort food. The biscuits were so fluffy and well seasoned. The gravy was also soooo good, just like my mom makes. The sausage in it was also cooked so well and juicy. I've never tried mashed potatoes with the biscuits and gravy but it worked very well! Orange Juice: Not a fan really, not pulpy enough and I wasn't a fan of the flavor. Overall this is definitely a must visit! I will definitely be back.

The food was amazing! In particular, I enjoyed the fried chicken and waffle tower and their roasted chicken hash. I was surprised they didn't include a side of butter along with their biscuits, but I'll probably just ask for it next time. One important thing to note is that their dishes are HUGE. All 6 of us had our own dishes, but I would highly highly recommend ordering a couple dishes and sharing it family style if you're dining with a group. One note I did have about Hash House is how overstimulating the menu is lol. The menu had a lot of clashing fonts, colors, and clip art images, it made it hard to digest the menu. I didn't even notice some menu offerings because of how busy the menu was. Also, our waitress did initially charge us for 6 coffees, even though we only had 3. It was a good thing we caught that error on the receipt before paying. Overall, the food at Hash House is definitely worth coming back for.

From what I could tell, there was only the bartender, one server, and possibly the manager working the floor. There may have been another employee, but regardless, they handled the rush incredibly well. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and kept things moving despite being clearly understaffed. The place itself is super cute and has a really fun atmosphere. There are TVs everywhere, making it a great spot to catch a game, and they have a nice craft beer selection. What I ordered: * Chimichurri Sliders ($16) - One of their specials. You get two sliders with no fries, so I'm not sure how much of a "special" it really is. They were decent, but nothing memorable or worth going out of your way for. Overall, I'd definitely come back to grab a beer and watch a game because the vibe is great. Food-wise, though, I found it pretty mediocre for the price. Burgers are around $25 with fries, and the appetizers (or "bites") range from $18-$25.. I was still hungry after the sliders and wanted to order a side of fries, but they don't list sides or prices on the menu, so you have no idea what anything costs. I ended up passing because they only offer steak fries, which just aren't my favorite. One big bonus is that they're dog-friendly, which I always appreciate. If you're looking for a fun place to watch sports, enjoy a beer, and hang out with friends, I'd definitely recommend it. Just don't come expecting the food to be the highlight.
