The service here is genuinely horrible. Do NOT tip prior to getting your drink. Complete lack of respect for customers time. I came here on a Sunday morning and with about 5 people in front of me I expected it to take a little bit wait, but not 30 minutes. I commiserated with my fellow line mates, gawking at how the line had gotten out the door, without moving! "Are we at Disneyland in line for a broken ride?" We watched as the sole barista on the bar chatted away with a friend about a business idea or clothing brand or something animatedly for ages! Cool, catch up with your friends, but also...can you please make us coffee? Then, the only cashier decided to leave his post to refill napkins, and restock ice. When I finally made it to the register the employee said "we are pretty backed up it'll be about a 25 minute wait on food or espresso drinks". You're kidding. I was forced to order a hot coffee (which I never drink - not bad actually) to save time and get back to my business. As I was leaving the customer who had chatted with the barista for 20 minutes and wasted everyone's time got BACK IN LINE! If there are events in the area you need to STAFF ACCORDINGLY. The coffee seems fresh and they advertise support to small communities. I ordered a hazelnut latte, hot with almond milk. I asked the cashier guy if the coffee beans were from Colombia. He said "they are from all over". I said, ok but the one you are roasting now? Is it from Colombia? And he said, its mixed. I like to not have a mixed bean coffee. I'd like to taste the difference on the way coffee is grown and roasted. However, the way he said, its from every where, its mixed, sounded to me like I was drinking leftovers. Anywho, the coffee wasn't bad and it didn't hurt my stomach. It wasn't overwhelmingly sweet either which I like. We also had the breakfast sandwich and although there was nothing impressive about it, it was enjoyable. I would have purchased more and I literally nearly just walked out as I was standing at the register waiting to give my order. Three people with really no care for customer service one of which stood in front of me and walk off and then back 3 times and didn't even say hello nobody even smiled. I finally got my order in and it took nearly 20 min not including the the waiting to order time for a $8 coffee. 3 people after me received their coffee before me 1 of which was a pre order online. "Pop tarts"- they're so much more satisfying than the boxed version, with real fruit and a nice flaky crust. Everything Danish( ?)- it's like a cream cheese danish with a good firm and chewy crust, with "everything" (poppy seeds, sesame seeds, something else maybe) sprinkled all over the top. Cookies- might not be the best I've had, but they're pretty darned good. The vibe here is swanky and modern, very fitting for this fun Little Italy district. The Sandpiper has roasted hazelnuts flavors in it, and honestly it could've used slightly more hazelnut, but still tasty. My coworker had the Iced Vanilla Bean latte which she really enjoyed. They have nice interior / exterior seating which is really nice to get some work done and meet up with some friends or have business meetings. It's a great space for all occasions. Lastly, on our way out there was a gentleman who had his hands full, so I held the door open for him. Unfortunately, he dropped his hot coffee and his food. One of the employees ran after him and assisted him immediately. She also insisted on remaking his entire order. AMAZING SERVICE!
