I came here on a Sunday and arrived in the line about 10:16 am and let's just say be patient and prepare to wait a while (10:47am is when I reached the front and ordered). I like that Goldchild Coffee Roasters has their own character and way of operating compared to the newer shops that have been appearing. This coffee spot is known to put more care and create an experience for the people that come in and with the quality that came to me-- I'm really grateful because it felt like I was getting my moneys worth! I didn't see any specialty drink (you know like lattes with delicious syrups). So, I decided to get an Iced Latte. They mentioned that their iced drinks don't come with ice-- it's shaken! I really liked this aspect because I could walk for hours and my drink wouldn't get watered down at all! The to go cup actually felt really heavy when I compared it to my friend's matcha. It was interesting as it was just a cold plain latte-- something in the way they extracted the drink must have made it really full bodied! The latte was smooth, well balanced (ratio of milk), and the flavor of the espresso really came through. It was beautiful, really delicious! My friend ordered a Matcha with a little bit of vanilla and he really really enjoyed it. My other friend had the Japan Cold Brew and was mind blown with the flavor as he thought he was just getting a plain ol' cold brew. Goldchild is in the heart of downtown SD, so I'd recommend going on a weekday when there might be more parking. The store is super cute and tiny, but there's a few spots to sit and work. We loved their pour over - it's probably one of the better ones we tried. You can really tell they're serious about their craft with the grinder they use :) Their latte was okay - nothing out of the ordinary. A small coffee shop nearby a lot of hotels. The ambiance is nice but I think most people take coffee away instead. The line was long in the morning which seems expected around here but I enjoyed the Morning in Stockholm even as someone who doesn't usually drink coffee I think the bitterness balanced well with the rose and cardamom flavors. I took a cardamom bun away to try later on! Would recommend if you have time and can do a takeaway since seating is limited. Edit: Unfortunately there was a mixup and my cardamom bun was gone and was given a saffron chocolate bun instead. Still good but was really waiting for the cardamom bun my friends raved about! ;) They were quite apologetic about it so I'll keep my rating since the coffee still hit the spot, the saffron bun was nice, and I like supporting a local community shop. I love the service and the fact that they don't just call your name out but they bring you out the coffees on a tray. I've had this place bookmarked for a while and finally had a chance to stop by on Saturday. Parking is a bit tricky since it's right in the middle of downtown, but I managed to find a spot across the street early Saturday morning. The space itself is small and quaint. We got a saffron chocolate roll because it looked yummy. The coffee didn't take long to make even though it was fairly busy. The Morning In Stockholm was pretty flavorful and yummy which we enjoyed. In all honesty, the Good Job latte wasn't very great. I expected a fruity, light and sweet latte. I'm not sure if they gave me the wrong one or what happened but mine had cinnamon on it, which is understandable if that's what it came with, yet it was sooo much that all you can taste is cinnamon. No fruit, no sweetness, just cinnamon. I hate sending drinks back because if it's what i ordered then that's on me! Lastly, we tried the saffron chocolate roll and at first it was fairly good because the chocolate was yummy yet the actual bread was realllyyyyy dry. Also, all the coffee merch on the wall (which I presume was for sale) was fun to look at. The owner was roasting coffee beans and playing a fantastic playlist of classic and chill rap music. WHAT A VIBE. After a handful of minutes, my mystery beverage was ready and hand-delivered. It was love at first sip and the flavor profile was fine-tuned to my taste! The interior is beautifully decorated with several tables along the perimeter and stool seating along the coffee bar that houses production. The dark color scheme and plush seating give it a high-end feel but the windows in the front keep it bright. The music softly playing completes the aesthetic. I was feeling a latte - they have several available in addition to other coffee beverages. It was great - smooth with a good amount of flavor without being too overpowering. Service was also excellent - we arrived ~15 minutes before closing and they were more than accommodating; they even served our to-go drinks to us as we sat and waited for them to be made. They were really friendly and made our visit memorable. Overall, Goldchild is a yes - they seem to be relatively new and I wish them all the best.
