We walked to three different places around 10 am on Sat, and the wait times were too long. Chiefy was nearby and came to the rescue! You order at the counter, and you pick up your food when called. We shared the avo toast, acai bowl and WOW sandwich (bacon & egg on croissant or bagel). First of all, the WOW didn't look very big, but it packed a punch. It was so filling. Secondarily, the avo toast had uber fresh avo, and the arugula & balsamic vinegar provided nice contrast to the creaminess of the avo. Lastly, the acai was nice & cold on a hot day. The fruit was fresh and plentiful, making the bowl worth the price. Valentine, who took our order was super nice as was the owner and remainder of the staff. There is a small amount of seating inside, and a few tables outside. I would definitely return to Chiefy, vs waiting in the long lines in the places around the corner. I've delivered groceries to this business several times now and have received a whopping $0 tip every single time. Not once. Not "a little low." Zero. The place looks nice and the staff seems friendly, but repeatedly ordering grocery delivery and never tipping the person bringing it to you is certainly... a choice. I actually considered bringing my girlfriend here sometime, but I think I'll spend my money somewhere that shows a little more appreciation for service workers. Forgot which smoothies we got but to be honest, they both tasted more like banana flavored milk. 2.4/5 The cafe itself is a close enough walk from the convention center and we were excited to get smoothies to start the morning. The cafe was quite cute both inside and out and had friendly staff. There was also both a cashier and a pos which was convenient. The smoothies themselves were disappointing. The both came out extremely liquidly and wish they were of a thicker consistency. The smoothies also tasted mostly of just banana. Although it was advertised to have banana, there was really no other taste other than it. I will say portion wise it is quite filling but steep price wise for nearly $15 a smoothie. It's a cute dog-friendly little cafe in Gaslamp that offers dog treats and indoor and outdoor seating. They have a pretty diverse menu as well and opted to try the iced oreo latte with almond milk. While the final price came out to more than I expected, the latte had a very nice flavor and could tell that was some quality espresso. They also have whole bean bags for purchase in which all the proceeds go to helping animals - love that! And they are offering a free latte with a bag purchase. I came on a Thursday morning and do be aware the place is TINY - there were two small tables at the wall with high chairs and that's it. I got the moon milk latte which wasn't quite as floral as I expected, it certainly had an earthy quality which probably comes from the spirulina which makes it look fun. It wasn't particularly memorable, but it was creative, I'll give them that! It was the only thing I tried on the menu because I thought it was most unique, but maybe other options are good! I went to the Chiefy Cafe this morning and tried to drinks, the Matcha Green Latte and the Mexican Latte. The person I was with also had both drinks. The Matcha was good but I would liked it a little more if it was sweeter. We both felt this way about the Matcha. The Mexican Latte was better imo. I liked the cinnamony taste and white chocolate flavor. I would go back for the Mexican Latte. We got there right when they opened and noticed they have a small amount of indoor seating but a good amount of outdoor seating. They have bar stools as well as tables and chairs. What business embraces the slogan "i dont even care?" What dont you care about exactly? Food quality? Customer service? We ordered 2 acai bowls. Standard acai, granola, fresh fruit. The acai itself was good quality though it was a little too sweet and they didn't offer an option to add protein powder like other place. Lost a star. Cappuccino is ok. Better than Starbucks but definitely nothing impressive like Parfait Paris a few blocks away. Much better coffee and ambiance - bc i guess they "care" about those things. So another star lost. This charming little café was right around the corner from my hotel, and it sort of became my go-to caffeine spot during my visit to San Diego. I am a sucker for these tiny sorts of hole-in-the-wall places, and this one was quite charming. Just a couple of seats inside, and a few tables and chairs outdoor on the patio and sidewalk. The menu has all the espresso basics, along with some very good café specialties. I'd recommend the Mexicana Mocha! Plus, while I didn't get a chance to eat here, there are some tasty looking pastries and a few breakfast entrees on offer, as well. Prices were pretty decent, the overall vibe was very chill and open, and the staff were quite friendly. It can get a little backed up if there are a few people in line, but that's no big worry. And I won't even bother talking about parking, since if you're in this part of town, you had better be walking over anyway. All in all, a fun spot that got me my coffee fix. Definitely worth a visit if you're spending your mornings in the Gaslamp Quarter. read more

Okay, this place deserves so much praise. It's pretty lowkey, so I admittedly walked past it a few times, but WOW am I glad that we eventually stopped and gave Chiefy a shot. The protein latte, alone, is worth going out of your way to try. I have since started trying to replicate this drink at home, but it just doesn't taste as good as how they do it at Chiefy Cafe. I also love their Mexican Latte - honestly, there were other drinks that I wish I could have tried, but it's a good reason to come back. Expect to wait a bit here. They are popular and people can order online for pickup, so they seem to be kept pretty busy throughout the day. Though I didn't try the food, I definitely would if I had the chance another time. Lots of breakfast and light bite options. The interior is small and this isn't really a place to stay and hangout. Service is excellent. They have Turkish coffee! Not many places do. I came with 4 kids. They gave the kids a freebie cup with the left overs after blending the drinks. I really appreciate that compared to throwing it away. It helps increase customer satisfaction and limit waste. I applaud the barista.
