I just moved into a new home a few months ago and while we liked our yard, there was a lot of unusable space filled with mostly mulch. I wanted someone that could provide a design to help us visualize how we might maximize the space, and actually do the work to build it out, without having to source the work out to multiple contractors. Tristan was my sales rep and was super responsive. Unlike some of the other companies I met with, he didn't dismiss my ideas or shut me down when I told him we were looking to scope out both a longer-term plan with a pool, and something that could serve us in the shorter term (next 5-10 years). Where some landscape companies would charge for the design alone, Tristan provided it up front and worked with the Modern Yardz team to tweak it to incorporate my requested changes. I told him we had a deadline less than a month out so the yard would be ready for a baby shower we were planning. Isaac was assigned as the PM on the project and came out shortly after the contracts were signed to start the work. Other than one minor delay with the concrete truck, the team worked diligently every day until the job was done, even spending an entire Saturday working to finish things up. They managed to conclude the project almost 2 weeks before our deadline, without any cut corners. After multiple quotes from various landscaping companies, Frank was the most transparent and responsive. At the initial consultation, we told him a general idea we had for our backyard which, mostly entailed of a new retaining wall, turf, pavers, and upgraded irrigation to rid of some minor flooding. Frank was able to give us some ideas and examples of what we could do. After signing the contract, Frank, Sebastian, and their team were able to start right away. We were given an initial projection of completion at four weeks but they were able to finish in half the time and this was after a few change order requests we requested on the fly. We greatly appreciate Frank's patience, attentiveness, and rapid response time in communicating with us because we were able to enjoy our yard with our toddler before our new baby arrived. We did a pretty extensive project with Modern Yardz that included demo, new pavers, irrigation, concrete pouring, drainage, low voltage lights, and planting. We're really happy with the result! The crew worked around some challenges (caused by a third party so outside of our control and their control) that cropped up over the course of the project and maintained clear communication throughout. Our project manager Russell made good recommendations throughout about small tweaks and has been really responsive even after project completion about small things like dud plants and random questions. Thomas and Modern Yardz replaced our driveway with pavers and redid our front landscaping, and I would wholeheartedly recommend them. Communication was great - Thomas provided detailed drawings and an itemized quote up front, so it was 100% clear that he understood what I wanted. Throughout the process, Thomas and his project manager Isaac were highly responsive via text. When they demolished an old planter and found that the wood and stucco behind it was badly water damaged, Thomas let me know right away, showed me the issue and offered up options to get it fixed while it was still exposed. They were also around very frequently. Some contractors disappear once a contract is signed and leave everything to their crew, but either Thomas or Isaac was here every single day of the project checking on the work. And speaking of the work, they had a lot of folks here, so things moved quickly. At least three people every day, and sometimes as many as six. I work from home, so I really appreciate that they brought in a big enough crew to get things done fast and minimize the amount of time I had to listen to demolition. If you're considering getting landscaping done, I would definitely have Modern Yardz come out and give you a quote. Thomas and the team from ModernYardz could not have been better. We used them to design and install/construct an entirely brand new backyard and front yard design for our new house. Both yards were barren dirt, as the house itself was brand new and the builder left yards to owners. Thomas was very helpful in bringing our vision to live via 2d and 3d plans that allowed us to really "see" what everything would look like upon completion. His design recommendations were always on point and very helpful. His plans were also detailed and followed all specifications from our HOA, so obtaining approval was a snap. Thomas was also extremely helpful in choosing water-wise plants from a local nursery that coordinated well and looked amazing. His costs were very reasonable and he stayed within budget (except for some changes that we requested and he quickly accommodated without issue). Most notably, his crew absolutely killed the install! About 5-7 guys were there Monday-Saturday from 7ish to 5ish. They were extraordinarily hard working, pleasant to be around, and very detail oriented. They ensured a clean and safe worksite everyday and were always respectful of our house, family, neighborhood, etc. They were also good about asking for our input on various issues and details to ensure everything met expectations (e.g., orientation of tile). At one point, it was nearly 100 degrees outside for a week, and they never slowed down, faltered, or complained. It was nuts and a testament to their high work ethics. They also completed the entire project early! We anticipated at least 4 weeks, and they were largely done in 2.5 weeks with a few very minor projects getting wrapped up in the ensuing days. We have recommended them to several of our neighbors, and reiterate that they have our highest recommendation here. Finally, we love our new modern, clean, and gorgeous yards!! We've been repeatedly complimented on them from neighbors and couldn't have been happier. In short, Thomas and team are experienced, thoughtful, hard working, clear communicators, easy and pleasant to work with, and got the job done exceedingly well and sooner than anticipated. My 5 star review is specifically for Frank (crew supervisor and all of the talented staff who worked on my yard). Initially I had a great conversation with the sales rep (Tomo) - he helped design a great design. He provided me with 3D renderings and an overall great price. The crew showed up everyday, on time or earlier, worked hard every single day they were here, and delivered an above average quality product. I have zero critiques of their work and am very satisfied. In spirit of full transparency, communications with the sales rep broke down after project was underway, customizing or changing and upgrading after the plan was in place was confusing and abrasive. Contracts person was not responsive or updated on progress. CEO never reached out to step in or make himself available although there were several instances that could warranted that. Very thankful for Frank and the crew for performing above expectation and delivering a backyard I'm very proud of. I would consider working with these guys again should they improve their customer service, sales and internal processes. read more
