I really liked this place. We went on a packed Friday night and couldn't even find room at the bar to sit. It was loud, fun and full of nicely dressed people out to have an adult good time. I could have been in NYC. We finally scored a table in the bar area after stalking a couple that were in the process of settling their bill. Food is super tasty, but service can be spotty, depending on the day/time you go. I have only had lunches there and done take out several times- haven't tried them for dinner yet. I hear it's a lively bar area, but trying to get a table isn't so easy at night. Pizzas are always delicious and they also have some nice salads. Meatball appetizer rocks! Modern Barn is hands down my favorite restaurant. For a while, I was going just for the fried green tomato appetizer. Last time I went it was no longer on the menu, but I tried the Duck entree over puréed cauliflower...it was so delicious, I'm still thinking about it 3 weeks later. I also LOVE the goat cheese/fig/prosciutto flatbread pizza. Portions are always just the right size, too. If you're going to try any new restaurant in Westchester, this is the one. read more

This place used to a consistent upscale local restaurant. The last two times that I ordered the burger it was incredibly dry and overcooked. They were both busy times, so maybe they partially cook it and finish it off when they get the order. Definitely not the juicy treat that had us coming back in the past. Meanwhile, they have started missing the mark on little things: there was a cornbread roll sticking out of the seat crack of the banquette we were at. You'd think the server/busboy would notice something like that and remove it. read more

About 2 weeks ago, about 10 of us went to this place. It was super busy because it was the weekend and we waited quite a bit of time for our food, which was expected. We got home and thought we had a nice experience until my son began to throw up that same night. The next day my daughter and me both got sick. I called the manager who took forever to call me back and basically referred it to the GM who called me once, didn't reach me, and didn't try again. Now, this place made over $800 on our event, so you'd think they'd care exactly what poisoned us. In fact, even if they made only $20, they should still care. Now, we've been to this place repeatedly over the years and given their good reputation, it's surprising they didn't try to somehow remedy the situation. Fantastic space and great feel. The place has a very eclectic great feel, with high ceiling and a warm wood feel the dining room and bar area are great to meet friends or just to have a meal with family. The staff is very attentive and provide great service. As far as the meal, its okay but not to the standards of the place nor of the pricing. We have been there a few times with family and friends and although the food is good its not great. The appetizers and salads are good. The ahi tuna taco appetizer is fantastic. Some of the main dishes are very good, lobster salad & pork chops. There is also a good variety of things to choose from, Burgers, steaks, pasta and fish. Why the low rating. Because the last two times there, the fish that I ordered was okay but not great. I had the tuna one night and although it was tasty it was too well done and lacked great flavor. Another night I had the monk fish and it was very good, but on another occasion it was dry and burnt. I think its a good place to go to have a cozy diner but the food has to get better for it to continue to become a frequent spot to visit for diner. read more

We came for lunch and it was packed with a lunch crowd. We were seated right away and they were accommodating enough to seat us where I could have enough room for my stroller. The decor is incredible and added to the experience. It is described as having an industrial feeling, but reminds me also of the inside of a ship. The wood is gorgeous and the chandeliers are beautiful. The wine collection was intriguing and beautifully displayed, although I didn't sample during this visit. Apparently a catwalk over the bar houses their wine cellar! I enjoyed a salad (baby spinach with grilled chicken), which was delicious and fresh. The strawberry and fennel combination was refreshing. Another guest enjoyed the rigatoni alla bolognese, which was "spicy and delicious". The veal milanese was also reportedly delicious. The place was beautiful and the service was good. The Shitake pizza wasn't that great. It had more of a taste of burnt onions. I wouldn't recommend this particular pizza. The cod fish entree was okay. The tuna entree is a better selection. I would not recommend the spring roll, a little on the greasy side, but they always are anywhere you go. I don't know why it is even on their menu, they are so many better things that could be included for an appetizer.It is out of place on their menu.I just prdered it becausee it sounded a little different, but it wasn't. A shrimp cocktail would have been nice, they also need a better dessert menu. Don't let this review get you down, I was only there once, the place is beautiful and it was packed on a Monday night. Ok so here is my experience. I called early in the day to make sure they were open regular hours (July 3rd) the manager said yes. We arrived at 9pm and walked in with a bottle of wine the hosted saw us and greeted us with " you brought our own wine you know that's a 45$ charge right" yes because I called but there a is a polite way to say that. She then said " we will sit you right away because we're gonna try to close early tonight. I asked if we could have a drink at the bar first and she was annoyed I said just grab is whenever you want is to sit.. I also asked for a quiet table and felt like I was being punished I was told upstairs was closed even though it was packed. She only offered us a table next to main door in front of a glass wall that looked outside and was surrounded by people. The sommelier did move is to a booth more privet. That's how the evening started. Bartenders was great drink perfect. Apps were very good the octopus I highly recommend. Slim the ramen pork belly nice attempt but didn't come together. Veal for entree was ok. Cherry tart dessert and ginger Ice cream were great. If it wasn't for experience at door I would give it 3.5 starts if I could. 3 apps.. Pasta course share... Entree & 2 sides .. Coffee tea sambucca.. 2 dessert & of course the 45$ fork fee bill came to $198.. Not crazy read more

The only thing I can say is meh. For the price of the dishes the food wasn't great. I had a burger and there was no taste at all, my wife had the fig and goat cheese pizza and wasn't impressed with it, barely any goat cheese and about one whole fig for the whole thing. My dad who usually devours his food barely touched his rigatoni the only person who seemed to enjoy her food was my mother and she ordered he chicken. Got the meatballs and coconut shrimp soup apps which were both literally plate licking good. Then we got the peppercorn tuna and chocolate mezzaluna ravioli which were also so so so delicious. The interior is decent certainly. However, the food is quite bland. The brisket Nachos (the one flavorful dish they normally have) was taken off the menu. Phenomenal food. We started with the octopus and it was the perfect amount for an appetizer and extremely tasty. For entrees, I got the sesame crusted tuna and my boyfriend got the grilled swordfish. Both dishes were delicious. The tuna was cooked to perfection. The swordfish was flakey and melted in your mouth. We got a butterscotch brownie for dessert and it was equally as delicious, and a perfect size for a shared dessert. My boyfriend, who NEVER wants dessert, loved it and we both devoured it. Highly recommend this spot. Don't be fooled by the four stars, I'm only ranking four due to not being checked on once throughout a 3 course meal. Possibly an off night for the server? I don't write these as you can tell from my 1 previous review but honestly I was annoyed by my experience here. The food is good but the service just did not deliver. I ordered a steak medium rare and it came rare. That was fine and you know what, mistakes happen. Then we ordered dessert and they forgot my order and brought the wrong order for my friend. That was where it got really annoying. I had to wait for my dessert while everyone else ate and it was awkward. Then mine came way after everyone else finished. That just stinks. They did nothing to correct the error or even acknowledge the dessert error. No apology, nothing. It is sad that you spend this much and they don't appreciate the business. I am very tolerant but very disappointed tonight. The bartenders were cute though! read more

I have never been greeted friendly when checking in nor do hostesses even say goodbye when you make a reservation. These are desperados who are obviously angry because they are working in a mediocre, at best, restaurant in northern Westchester that no one cares about rather than a hot NYC restaurant which they think they are. Moderne Barn is very popular and my husband and I have had trouble getting a reservation on a Friday between 6:45 and 7:30 for several weeks. Finally got one last night.This is really an attractive place to eat. The service was appropriately attentive and yet, unobtrusive. No one interrupted our conversation to ask if everything was OK, an irritating habit at most restaurants. Now to the food and prices. We really liked the food, what there was of it. Portions were quite small, especially for the price. Same for wine by the glass. If prices were lower, the portions would be fine. For these prices, they should have been twice as large - no exaggeration. We eat at many local restaurants that serve larger portions at the same or lower prices and the food is at least equal in quality and presentation. Moderne Barn will be a nice change of pace restaurant for us, maybe a couple times a year, rather than one where we'd be known as regulars. For that, one does much better in the very lively Mount Kisco restaurant scene. read more

My first review on yelp. I figured it is about time I join...since I personally rely on yelp so much. I do consider myself a foodie. Love nothing more than a great dinner. I've traveled the world again and again. I think my palette is worthy of writing reviews. Tonight was my third visit to Moderne Barn. Probably my favorite visit. Each time I walk in I am reminded of the beautiful decor. The lighting is gorgeous, bar design magnificent, and wine area stunning. And the wood lining the walls and ceiling---perfect. It's not loud, but it's not quiet either. There are people on dates and families with kids, too. They have great half oval booths--but I was a group of two, so maybe next time. Our waiter was great. I wish I remembered her name. She knew the menu and checked on us just enough. The menu is great. Everything from a burger to fancy. We had the watermelon gazpacho, and calamari salad as apps. Filet and halibut w/lobster top (sides of bakes potato and spinach). Desert: rhubarb and brownie ice cream sandwich. All was wonderful. The wait staff is top notch. Everything from proper delivery of food to the steak knife in a box. Will totally return again and again. Only negative for me...the Thai plum cocktail was too strong. I'm sure most would welcome this. The plum at the bottom was great. Also--the baked potato side only had butter as an accompaniment. Very minor in my eyes. Honestly, if I would have asked for sour cream they would have brought it. Maybe I was too full by then. So---go, you'll love it. read more

A classy establishment with an amazing staff. The General Manager, Taner, is more than accommodating. I love Modern Barne. The food is great, the service is friendly and quick, and the setting is nice. I would personally recommend the fillet mignon. It is cooked with a little oil and salt and that is all it needs. It is so tender and soft that the knife just goes through it like butter. I get it with the horseradish sour cream sauce and it is easily my favorite steak. read more

Great atmosphere and decor but when I went with a friend last night we were not greeted with a smile which is a big problem right off the bat. The service was painfully slow and after eventually ordering my veal medium it came bleeding. I sent the veal back and it came back over cooked. I must have upset the chef. read more

Moderne Barn's lofty space makes it easily one of the most downright gorgeous restaurants in Westchester. The apps are tolerable, and the wine/beer/spirits offerings welcomingly diverse, but after a half-dozen or so visits I can only conclude consistency is a struggle here. Mains have disappointed most of the time. The desserts have bombed consistently and without fail, the worst being total torture by chocolate at an off-site event (my date, a classy lady, ejected the first bite into her napkin). I wouldn't rule it out for a nice dinner with your mother-in-law, or drinks with co-workers who aren't zealots to foodism, but for a real culinary experience head across town to North. read more

Went here with my family for a what we hoped would be a nice family meal. My husband goes here often with clients from the Armonk area and he and they seem to enjoy. I however, will not go back. EVER. Menu is overpriced for what you get. My daughter had the hanger steak (which to be tasty should be cut thin) Hers was cut so thick and had a horrible gamey taste to it. We took it home for our dog. My son's entree had to be sent back twice because it was not hot. He went home hungry. As I say- We will not rerun. read more

The only word that comes to mind when I think of this restaurant is DISAPPOINTING. This restaurant is overpriced and the food is underwhelming. Visually the restaurant is stunning but once you get past that it is very loud and over priced for low quality food. We started the night with the lobster bisque soup which had about 1 tbsp worth of lobster in it. My husband and friend ordered the ricotta gnocchi and were very disappointed with the taste. My friend sent it back and ordered pierogi, but they were overcooked and mushy. The deserts were okay. Nothing great or exceptional considering this was a $200+ meal for four. I would never return and would not recommend this restaurant. read more
