Modernize Replaced my Windows & Roof and added Solar and a Propane Generac Generator. I couldn't have been more impressed with the entire process. They came out and talked about all the possibilities and really listened to what we wanted without selling us on extras. All the products were top of the line so we really didn't have to shop around. They completed the whole project within the timeframe we agreed on. We couldn't be happier with everything they did and it LOOKS AMAZING! A note on their working crew: They are professionals, highly trained at what they do. The Electricians were organized, clean, courteous and trustworthy, and would take the time to explain solar and show you what exactly everything is/does. The window crew are clean, efficient, and Fast! They replaced 47 windows in about 5 days without a trace of them being there! In general, Modernize construction took care of us from the very beginning with their excellent sales team explaining all the details of products, financing and rebates, to the general contractor who interpreted our ideas, and finally to the crew who performed the work as if it was their own house. This is an update to my GLOWING review of Modernize when they installed my generator in 2022. About a year down the road and well within my extended warranty period my generator would not start. Modernize came out ant stated it was a simple adjustment and charged me for a scheduled maintenance. It didnt fix the problem and I have been BEGGING them ever since to fix it. After being ignored and having to argue to their office about info their tech told me (he said it needed a part) they referred me to another company because they didnt have the crew to come out. After another few months of begging, Modernize said the part was ordered and should be in within month. Crickets ever since two months later. I am in an area that experiences very frequent power outages, which is why I spent 15K on a generator.This has dragged out for years at this point. If you want a company to make the sale then ignore you (just like the last two reviews posted here) Modernize is your company. This has been such a nightmare I am going through the formal complaint process with Generac to make sure other people will not have to deal with this. read more

My first review was five stars. Modernize was quick to get my solar system up and running. ("Great! My PG&E bill will go down and I will have power during outages!") However, while my system was "complete" in September 2023, it was 18 months - a year and a half!' - before it was recognized and "on the grid" with PG&E. There was a serious lack of communication, for which I literally paid the price. What does this mean? Your system must be inspected and approved by PG&E, which requires technical information that can only be provided by the solar company. We customers must depend upon communications between two entities over which we have no control. So for 18 months, Modernize told me everything was handled and I was on the grid saving money. For 18 months, PG&E told me they requested information to complete the connection that they had not received. Each month I would get another exorbitant bill from PG&E (ranging from $309 to $600 depending on weather) Each month I contacted Modernize for help. So in spite of having solar panels on my roof, from September 2023 (when the system was installed) to March 2025 (when the system went on the grid) I paid regular, non-solar, outrageos PG&E rates plus the loan for my solar. I did not reduce my electricity bill at all and added the loan. Not what I planned. April 17, 2025 I received my FIRST solar rate PG&E bill totalling $96. Finally! Now, in my opinion, to make this right, Modernize should have reimbursed me for at least the portion of my energy bill that exceeded what i would have paid at solar energy rates, That did not happen. Therefore, they got five stars for excellent upfront communication and fast installation. One star for failure to follow up and unwillingness to make it right.( read more

This is an update to my previous review in regards to my Generac equipment needing repair. Modernized Power installed the Generac equipment in Sept 2024. Problem: I wasn't getting 240v for my dryer. Ends up the Generac smart module for the dryer failed and had to be repaired. Having Modernize Power not respond to my requests for service, two requests, is bad enough. I found out that I had to pay a diagnostic charge to the company that came out. The company that came out said if they installed the Generac equipment they wouldn't have a diagnostic charge since they would have made a profit off the install. Modernized Power made the profit from the install and I'm stuck with the diagnostic charge. My original appointment with Modernized Power was scheduled 8 days out from when I called about not having 240v for my dryer. The day before the scheduled appointment I was told they were cancelling. Reason was someone just quit. After two attempts to get a new service appointment setup over the phone, with the promise of call backs that never came, I had to hire another company to fix the problem. At least now I have a top notch company to support my Generac equipment. I called Generac and they gave me the top rated companies in Rocklin and Auburn. read more

Modernize did a total overhaul of the exterior of my house. They subcontracted roof, siding, a mini-split, and Anlin windows. Their crew installed a really high-quality array of solar panels. They also completely transferred my electrical main panel to account for a logistical need having to do with my swimming pool setback. I would recommend this company bar none. Josh, Brandon, Eric, and the rest of the crew are a pleasure to work with...they even remained patient when the county inspectors asked them to fix the most minor issues! They are super knowledgable and worth consulting if you have a project in mind. read more

We recently purchased our home, and wanted to do several upgrades to the property starting with solar power since the summer weather would be soon upon us. We interviewed several different companies, but modernize construction was clearly the best choice. I do like doing most of my own work around the property, however their knowledge and expertise went far beyond my expectations. Not only did they do the solar installation, but they also upgraded my home heating, cooling, insulation, garage electrical, installed wiring for a future car charging station, and replaced our aging outdoor porch with a beautiful modern porch, which now includes lighting, skylights, and fans. Modernize Construction's goal was to make the house more efficient so that these solar benefit would be much more effective, and would pay for itself sooner. The work they did on the property was impeccable, much better than I could have dreamed for. They were extremely accommodating, and were helpful and patient with all of my requests for things I remembered I wanted as the work proceeded. read more

Modernize Power installed a 22KW Generac whole house backup generator and a 14.8KW Panasonic ground mounted solar array with Solaredge inverters and optimizers. Although the most expensive by far for the generator, I was satisfied that Modernize was taking care of the system from soup to nuts including all the propane work. The install team was professional and courteous. The quality of the workmanship was superior in every way -- to the extent that the inspectors commented on it as well (I'm an electrical engineer, but not an electrician). My disappointment, hence the 4 out of 5 was the solar. Although the solar system is 50% larger than my solar on another home, it produces 25% less energy due to the placement. The whole purpose of the solar was to ensure we were completely independent from the grid in terms of net energy production, especially since we are planning for a battery system as well. That has fallen far short of our needs. It would have been better to build a bigger system or change the placement to ensure my goals were met. I would have gladly paid more to have a larger system, but I was told this system would meet my needs. It wasn't until it was too late that I noticed the low production *after* the system was fully commissioned. That was a big miss and a huge disappointment. I struggled with whether or not to knock a star because I was really satisfied with the generator work and, as I said earlier, the workmanship is superior quality. But as it stands now, I will need to add on to this system to meet my goals -- I'm not sure that I will use Modernize for that project--I'm continuing to analyze the efficiency of this system to validate all of the other design tradeoffs made by Modernize -- if I don't find any issues, I will consider using Modernize in the future, but I will spend more time analyzing their design drawings and plans. Most people wouldn't be able to do that, so I recommend lengthy discussions and diligence before proceeding with a solar system from Modernize. read more

Modernize Power is by far the best contract company I've worked with since we bought our house 4 years ago. We have a house built in the 60s with an old Zinsco panel that couldn't handle the upgrades we wanted to do to our house. One Yelp inquiry led me to Eric and his wonderful crew. Unfortunate for us, the upgrades we were planning wouldn't be as easy as a simple panel swap. Eric was always up front about the reality of the cost in having to bring underground cables up to code and having to work with SMUD to make sure everything was on the up and up. Every step of the way Modernize Power prepared us for what to expect when it came to timelines and processes. My project manager, Brandon, was an absolute delight. He was quick to respond to all my questions, even if they were repetitive. Jason the lead electrician, Nick the lead installer, Sam, and Julian were continually professional, clean, and an absolute joy to speak with each and every time they were here. Eric Caldwell visited our home & presented a 22kw generator that would power our entire 2 story house of 5706 sf in a blackout. He inspected our electrical panels (3) quoted a price of $14,500 with an install time of 12 weeks. However if we wanted it in 4 weeks it would be $16,500! We choose the 4 weeks.(GOUGED US) We both signed contracts. Almost 2 weeks later their design layout person visited our house & again inspected all our 3 electrical panels. He advise that the best they could do was to supply power to our first floor only. Unhappy that Eric had misrepresented the project, we accepted the one floor power.(NO DISCOUNT) He advised where the unit would be placed & there were no other issues. He wanted & I gave him a $6500 deposit. He gave us an install date. When the install date came NO SHOW?? I called and Eric advised they would not fulfill the contract?? Still no deposit of $6500 returned?? Pleas be careful with this company, in my opinion they are scammers! Otis Menasco read more
