What a great find! I went for the first time to Caprice and was thrilled with the time she took to make my hair look great. Unfortunately, I had to take my 5-star review down after a recent visit with this salon. I received a haircut from one of the stylists that turned out to be not as I expected. After going home and trying to style it for a couple days, I decided to contact her personally about re-looking at the haircut and somehow fixing it. I also requested the owner to be there since she is who I usually book with. The initial stylist was sensitive to my feelings about the haircut as we exchanged text messages and was happy to see me right away with the owner there. Upon entering, the owner did not come out of the front desk. When I sat down, I proceeded to tell the stylist why I did not like the cut and wished that she would have suggested another cut if I wasn't going to style my hair as shown in the picture used for reference. I asked the owner twice to come and see my hair closer than from the back of the reception desk, but she wouldn't come. Instead, she got up, walked over to the magazine rack, and raised her voice at me saying that she can hear me and that she did not need to see my hair. She proceeded to accuse me that I was questioning the stylist's professionalism. (I was not...I thought stylists were suppose to help in suggesting haircuts that would suit a client's lifestyle.) After that, she stormed out of the salon to be on the phone with a call. (So uncomfortable!) The stylist, who was still so calm and continued to try to be helpful, remained with me and made a few adjustments. So, the reason for the 3-star rating is while the salon is beautifully airy, intimate, and relaxing, the salon owner was not helpful nor humble at all when it came to assisting her clients with a "bad" haircut. She was insensitive and let her own personal problems (when she came back, the stylist asked her about her car) get in the way of providing her clients with the great service they are known for. read more

My stylist Caprice is a color guru, she was able to interpret my wishes and translate the pictures I brought in and made it a reality. She understood color as well as how my own natural color would react to different coloring and highlight approaches. Additionally she is lovely to work with and a true professional. I recently got my hair cut and colored at modest spot by Kristen and I absolutely love it! I'm always a bit nervous about changing up my hair but felt like Kristen really understood what I wanted and made me feel at ease. She gave me balayage highlights and an adorable asymmetric bob! I am not usually a yelper, but this place is amazing. Stephanie, the owner, gave me a haircut and color last night. I had a fantastic experience. The salon is really cute and different than the average san clemente salon. They even have a super cute store in the back that you must go into! Stephanie was probably the easiest person to talk with and she totally nailed my color. She is so fun to talk with and of course you are happy when you just got off work and your stylist offers you a glass of wine while she makes you beautiful. She is great at fitting you in when you need a cut badly and does amazing work. I am so happy to not have to drive out of san clemente for a hair cut or color anymore. This salon is San Clemente quaint. The location is beautiful and the salon as charming as anything San Clemente has to offer. That's not where the greatness stops. Stephanie has been coloring and cutting hair at an unnamed top spot in the OC for many years, where she also teaches color to new stylists. Now she is bringing her talent back to her hometown of San Clemente, via her own salon. Steph is a colorist supreme and her haircuts have always been the best . I travel from Big Bear Lake to have her cut and color my hair. I have never walked away from an appointment disappointed. I have always felt beautiful afterward. I have hesitated to write my review because it will be negative for only one component of this salon's performance .... BUT, I use YELP for all of my services and I just need to help my fellow Yelpers as they have helped me for so many of my services, except this one. I went to this salon solely because of its reviews on Yelp and I am very sorry I did. First of all, I cannot write about the actual services at this salon since I never got that far but I can write about my experience with the salon as a whole. I called and requested an appointment for styling my hair (with my own extensions) for a dinner party I was attending on Friday night. The stylist explained to me that she was busy all day with clients for some type of event that was occurring that night in San Clemente. We agreed that I could come in at 5:00 PM and I could out of the salon by 6:00 PM to go home, change and be on my way to my 7:00 dinner party in Newport Beach. I walked in her door at 5:05 PM and she was still working on a client. I really didn't look at the client to see if I could determine if they were wrapping up. BUT, at 5:15, I started getting nervous and then heard the client ask if the stylist could do a little more trimming. I then made a comment that it appeared as though the stylist was not going to have time to get me out the door by 6:00 PM. She then said that she had me down for 5:30. That would have been impossible! There is no way I would have agreed to 5:30 PM for a service that would possibly take 45-60 mins to complete when I had to be at dinner 30+ miles away by 7:00 PM. Well, there was nothing I could do but leave. I had to speed home, do my own hair without the extensions and then was 30 minutes late for my dinner party. All because the stylist wrote down the wrong time or didn't coordinate her time appropriately. As I said, I can say nothing about the actual service but I can tell you that I need my "partners" in my personal services to be professional and reliable -- unfortunately, I didn't experience either with this salon that has 5 stars. Another note regarding the parking. I believe that other reviews commented on the ease of parking -- really? Maybe if you have a MiniCooper or a bike. There was no parking on the street. I had to drive into the back of the building and try to park in a very tight spot in the back. Parking is NOT easy and I drive a smaller sized SUV. Perhaps this salon does great hair.... but the stars are for overall experience and I had a terrible experience that caused me to be late for a surprise dinner party. read more
