He is not really trying to sell you anything nor trying to tell you what you want to hear. He is there cause he liked wine and enjoys sitting around and sharing stories over wine. Modus Operandi is for serious wine lovers -- do not come here for your 21st birthday booze fest or Napa bachelorette wine blow-out. You'll want to come to really enjoy these high quality wines and appreciate them. The tasting room serves many small scale wineries. It's a very warm and inviting space. I loved meeting Jason, hearing his story and passion for wine. He is so down to earth, humble, and interesting to talk to! We felt like our tasting was like meeting an old friend. All this coming from a guy whose wines were picked to drink at a WHITE HOUSE DINNER - what?! Just think, now you are drinking the same wine that the President had! The sauv blanc was probably one of the best I've ever had. The Vicarious is amazing as well! Modus Operandi is definetly worth the visit if you want to something off the 'regular' Napa circuit and want great, high quality wine and support a small winery. read more

To say that Jason is awesome is an understatement. His wine is in the top 1% of wine I've ever had, the facilities are impressive, and he is the most personal and authentic person you'll meet in Napa. Please go there if you love wine and know a good one from a bad one. Please don't if you are just looking for the next stop for your limo because this guy is a rock star that deserves to be taken seriously (though he's pretty fun as well). Keep up the good work Jason! THE best tasting I have ever had! My wife and I tasted wines with Jason Moore on Memorial Day. What an experience. Most Napa wineries start you off with a Sauvignon blanc, and I was thinking this was going to be the standard Napa-like tasting until I took a sip. Many times, I will even pass on sauv. blanc because I'm not crazy about it. I'm glad I didn't! Jason's expression of this varietal makes me reconsider my traditional panning of this grape. We then tasted wines including Pinot, Vicarious, Cab. Sauv. , Antithesis, and even a barrel tasting. My favorites were the Pinot, Vicarious, and Cab. Sav., and of course the barrel tasting (liquid magic). However, I did not taste a bad wine during the whole experience. Any of these wines would be a treat. We ended up buying a case. I can always tell my wife's opinion of a wine by the look on her face. I will taste first, without looking at her to firm up my own opinion. Then I take a look at her. She is usually pretty subtle with her expressions, and sometimes unsure about whether she likes a wine or not. I tend to be more of the wine purchaser willing to spend $$$ on good wine. When I looked at her after tasting most of these wines, she was wide eyed and nodding, as if saying emphatically "YES!, we WILL buy some of this!" The tasting was casual with plenty of time to ask questions and hear from the winemaker himself. I would go so far to say he was more generous with his time than he should have been (Thanks, Jason!). We were able to hear his story and the story of each of the wines. We also had a chance to chat with Jason about life a bit, and we always appreciate an honest, transparent dialogue. He is a gifted winemaker. I feel a bit like I had a chance to hang out with the Picasso of wine. His techniques are exploratory and unconventional, but during this tasting his finished product came together to form liquid art. read more

I have enjoyed Jason's wines for several years now. These are the wines that you pull from the cellar and drink. One of the few wine clubs I have joined and stayed on. His red blends such as Anithesis and Vicarious are soooo enjoyable. He adds a bit of Petite Sirah to a Cab/Merlot blend with a great end result. I have enjoyed the Sauv Blanc and Rose' as well. My wife has said more than once "you should get more of this". A great tasting experience if you get to Napa, he even came to meet me once. You can tell he is so proud of his wines. Ridiculously awesome! I made an appointment for the wine tasting, and Mario took great care during the process of helping me finding a perfect time for me and my wife to be able to make on time (my wife had some meetings, so scheduling was somewhat difficult), he kept on contact with me by text, so that small detail, made a huge difference; THAT'S SERVICE. And obviously, the experience of tasting their wines from bottles and barrels was the best one I've had; we learned so much, that definitely, for the price, this is one of the places you should go and live the experience. A little background. My wife and I have been very much into wine as a hobby for almost ten years. We have been members of several wine clubs over the years and have a Vacation home in Napa. We travel there regularly and on our last visit had a chance to meet with Jason Moore at Modus Operandi. Let me say this. As long as he is making wine this will be our first and last stop in town on every visit. His passion for the product shows in every bottle and the level of customer service provided is second to none. We joined the wine club without hesitation. For anyone visiting the area this has to be on your list of "go-to" wineries without a doubt. One of our absolute favorites now as the wines are some of the best we have ever had. After 2 vineyard packed days of tasting some of the best and most expensive wines that Napa and Sonoma have to offer, we had a private tasting of Modus Operandi wines. I'll admit that after hearing about the winemaker Jason's humble beginnings and having just seen all the complex methods of some very large, established wineries, I wasn't sure how MO could compete. Then we started the tasting - and we fell in love with this wine! The personal attention he gives to the craft makes all the difference. He ferments the wine in the barrels, not in huge stainless steel bins, and takes a hands-on approach to the entire winemaking process. Jason is doing everything right with Modus and you know it as soon as your nose picks up what's in the glass and it's confirmed when the wine hits your lips. We especially loved his Pinot Noir and the Antithesis blend. Find this wine and try it, or better yet, schedule a tasting with Jason! read more

Jason is up and coming. Would never have known except for a good friend that lives in town. His winemaking skills are out of the box and it clearly shows. A definite place to bet on art and skills. He's straight up and every tasting is superb! This, by far, was the best stop of three remarkable vineyards in the valley. By appointment. His Sauv Blanc was chosen for a presidential dinner recently (though not typically a white fan or Sauv Blanc for that matter, I bought this. It's the best Sauv Blanc I've ever had). We love Vicarious and the Cab blend was incredible as well. Additionally, he has a new line that will likely put him under the watchful eye of serious wine affectionists. We can't wait. We had a amazing wine tasting experience with Caitlyn of Modus Operandi at Brasswood. To begin with the wines were truly amazing, it was wonderful trying a wide selection of Jason's wines as we learned about the history of the winery and his approach to his wine making. While I knew little about the wines of MO prior to my tasting, Jason has produced some terrific wines that are a pleasure to drink. Cailtyn was an outstanding hostess; she was engaging, warm and very knowledgeable. To top it off, the tasting room at Brasswood was beautiful. Having a private tasting with Caitlyn at Modus Operandi was the perfect way to spend a few beautiful hours in Napa, great company and great wine in a magnificent setting. read more

One of the best tasting experiences I have had. This past Sunday (1/20/13) my girlfriend and I made an appointment to do a tasting with Modus Operandi. We sat down with Jason Moore (Winemaker) and had a one on one tasting. He told us his story how he had moved from Texas to California to pursue his passion in winemaking. The one on one tasting really gives you a chance to personally get to know the winemaker. We didn't feel like we were at a wine tasting, it felt more like we were just hanging out with Jason. The pours were definitely more than the average winery in Napa. Usually when I taste at a winery there'll always be a few wines that don't impress me. Not with Modus Operandi, every wine Jason offered was amazing. I bought a bottle of Vicarious that I'll be opening for a special occasion. I highly recommend Modus Operandi for anyone visiting Napa. My wife and two friends had an awesome appointment with Jason and his wine Modus Operandi. We do a napa trip every two years and our friends enjoy yearly so we know a thing or two about wine. After several tastings that day and around 100 different high quality wines (including some from To Kalon grapes), these still impressed.
