Assembly line at Moe’s Southwest Grill
    Bruce K.

The "Welcome to Moe's" were a little more subdued today but my lunch was still great. Not especially busy at just after 12:00, I ordered my "close talker" salad and followed it down the assembly line. No chips or queso today, just the salad and a small cup for water. It's easy, it's consistent, and they have the self-service salsa bar if you want to pick it up a notch. There is also a Coke Freestyle machine. The restaurant was clean, the music was not too loud, they have free wifi and there was a power outlet under the table. [Review 12855 overall, 170 of 2020.]

A few years ago, my workplace catered from Moe's and it wasn't that impressive so I been avoiding it. I was craving a taco salad with the shell and decided to stop in. Wow! It blew my away! This is my type of taco salad! All of the ingredients were freshly made and to perfection. It was by far the best taco salad that I've had in a very long time. The texture of the taco shell was crunchy and flaky. The best part was the salsa bar! My favorite at the moment is the pineapple salsa. No shame but I've eaten here twice this week. Overall, good customer service for the most part with a little confusion. I checked into Yelp and got a free cup of queso -- when I rang up, it was actually the supposed to be the tiny cup of queso, not the big one. Rather than just giving that to me since it was a mistake made by one of the workers, the guy took the away and gave me a small one. It wasn't like I purposely took it. It was given to me. A bit unprofessional in my opinion.

Every trip I've made to Moe's has been decent and I love the fact that they give free chips with every order, but the food has just never wowed me. I always get a bowl here and I do like that they have different toppings that you wouldn't see at Chipotle like mushrooms, cilantro, and fresh lime. The free guacamole with every bowl is also a nice perk! I was excited to visit the salsa bar, but the salsas fell short for me. Overall, a decent spot to grab a cheap, affordable lunch with free chips.

Don't order online, we arrived for an order that was supposed to be ready at 7:30 and didn't receive the food until 8:35.

The original Chuy's started in Austin, and after all these years, the flavors are still exactly how I remember them. I had planned to eat at H Mart but arrived too late after checking into my hotel. A summer thunderstorm rolled through, and by the time I pulled into Chuy's, the skies cleared. It was the perfect ending to a long day. The complimentary chips, fresh salsa, and famous creamy jalapeño dip are reason enough to stop by. That dip is every bit as addictive today as it was decades ago. I ordered the Comida Deluxe--a massive plate with cheese enchiladas, crispy chicken flautas, a crispy beef taco, fresh guacamole, queso-covered tostadas, rice, and refried beans. I paired it with an ice-cold Coke, plus extra lime wedges and white onions, because that's how Tex-Mex should be enjoyed. Every bite hit the spot. The portions were enormous, the quality was excellent, and at around $16-18, it's one of the best values around. I knew I'd be taking leftovers home, and they were just as good the next day. I also grabbed a slice of tres leches cake to go. It was huge and worth every penny. It somehow tasted even better after sitting overnight as the three milks soaked deeper into the cake. Absolutely delicious. Our server was warm, attentive, and made packing up leftovers effortless by bringing extra creamy jalapeño dip, a sturdy bag for the chips, and plenty of to-go containers. Service like that makes a difference. You can pay traditionally with your server or by scanning a QR code. I tried the QR option but found it a little cumbersome, so I paid the old-fashioned way with my credit card. Chuy's has stayed true to what made it famous. The recipes are consistent, the portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the food is packed with nostalgia. Whether you're a fellow Texan or just craving outstanding Tex-Mex, this place continues to deliver. Life is too short to eat boring food.

That being said, I could drink the creamy jalapeño sauce by the bucket; that is how much I love it. Other notable mentions are the chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas and the green chile enchiladas. At this specific Chuy's location, they were able to accommodate a large party of us (17 people) without any issues. The ambiance was nice and they were able to chill a cake we had brought in until we sliced it. The only negative part of the experience was that the waitress accidentally spilled cups of water on two guests, which was a bit of a mess, but the other staff members helped clean it up.

I was really one mayonnaise filled torta away from missing out on my favorite Mexican restaurant of Cary. The food is some of the freshest and most authentic in the area, and is consistently spot on. Forget heavy burritos or overly sauced enchiladas, this place is the real deal. When you come to Esmeralda Grill, you should really focus on the meat heavy dishes, whether it be via land or sea. There are so many different options to choose from, from both categories. When thinking seafood, expect the full fish. If you find yourself with the fresh grilled tilapia, you will receive a delicious whole fish that tastes as if it was caught that morning. It is such a fantastic option. I also appreciate the camarones a la diabla, or Diablo shrimp. The shrimp are plump and juicy, the spice of the dish is excites your taste buds and is a great dish. My favorite entrees are the land meat dishes though. El Trio Perfecto is my go-to order, it is grilled steak, chicken and pork all on one plate with rice, beans, salad, and tortillas. The Mexican spice rub on the meats is absolutely mouth watering, the flavors are so bold and tasty. The meats are all cooked to perfection and the portions are gigantic. You can make different tacos with the various meats, it is seriously one of my favorite Mexican dishes. I would highly recommend this! Additionally, Esmeralda Grill has so many other wonderful dishes for different flavor profiles. My grandparents are pretty particular about empanadas, but simply cannot get enough of Esmeralda's version. They also make some killer tacos, and some very affordable ones if you were to come on Tuesday! The moral of the story? Don't base your opinion of a restaurant after a single visit. You don't come across a fantastic hole in the wall every day, Esmeralda Grill is one that every Mexican food lover should know!

I usually rotate between the tacos, enchiladas, and molcajetes, and while the tacos themselves are just okay, the overall experience is solid. The fresh chips are easily some of the best I've had at a Mexican restaurant (warm and crisp). Add queso to those chips and it really seals the deal. They more than make up for the tacos being a bit underwhelming and are honestly reason enough to come back. This is a great neighborhood spot if you're looking for authentic flavors, generous portions, and excellent chips and dips (biggest downside is no liquor aka no margaritas). Not every dish is a knockout, but the highlights keep it comfortably in 4-star territory.
